can't update please help - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

ok my s4 currently is stock MI1
it was ME7 rooted with SS i never deleted any apps i just disabled them through app info never altered any system info
now would that mess up my binary count
when i updated to MI1 all i did was plug my phone into my mac and used kies to update it didn't go back to stock
would that take it back to 100% stock or would it be some kind of unofficial version
in odin mode it says official i don't get the custom padlock in my boot loader
ok my problem is every time i try and find the 4.3 update it says "Software update is temporarily unavailable. Try again Later"
i plug it into kies and it says that I'm on the most up to date firmware and when i use that verizon upgrade assistant thing the update/repair button can't be clicked and i got a message one time saying my firmware doesn't support updates or something along those lines
my problem is I'm on a mac so no odin does anyone have any ideas to what i could do to fix this
would mobile odin work or no

bump

Not really sure what you think anyone here can do for you. It looks like a network problem. Maybe try contacting Verizon?

I'm just curious if updating through kies like i did send me back to 100% stock because that verizon back up assistant said my firmware doesn't support updates

Yeah, I had the exact same issue with the OTA. I did some reading around and the only fix I seemed to find was to go to a Verizon store and have them swap out your sim card. It worked for me...as soon as they swapped out the sim and rebooted my phone it instantly started downloading the OTA updated.
I read somewhere that getting your sim physically replaced isn't necessary. They said you could call Verizon and have them deactivate and reactive your sim card and it would do the same thing. I tried that...either the vzw rep didn't actually do it, or it didn't work. I know it's a hassle, but going down to a Verizon store is probably your best option.
As far as updating the phone through the Update Utility on the computer, I don't believe that the update is being rolled out through it yet. As of earlier today the update was only rolling out over the air.
Hope it works out for you!

[Q] Cannot Update to 4.1.2

I have 4.1.1 Jellybean on my phone, is unlocked, an had no trouble updating to 4.1.1 from ICS. Now that my phone shows "Updates Available", downloads them files( I think), but does not install and rather says "Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available". The new updates I have seen in my mate's phone are good, and as he told me he had no trouble updating to it unlike mine.
What is the problem and the best way to solve this issue?
Also I'd like to ask, if I used Odin to update it manually, will I be able to update my phone with later releases without having to use Odin again?

You answered your question yourself...modified = no ota update. Go back to stock unmodified or easier, download the new version from xda or sammobile and flash via odin

Well i don't know what you mean with "unlocked" . If you mean rooted then it's easy :fingers-crossed:. You might have rooted with CF-Root or Toolbox or whatever. And in that process you were forced to install Clockworkmod Recovery and that's the reason you can't get OTA. If you want to have a rooted phone and OTA all you have to do is. Root your phone, stay on stock rom and flash the stock recovery via odin. But this means you loose CWM Recovery and a lot of the fun part about a rooted phone is gone.

What part of "Unlocked" is confusing to you? It means the phone can run any sim card of any sim provider, thats what I meant, and no, the phone is not rooted or never even have tried rooting it... Never mind, I factory reset the phone and the update is done. Anyways kudos for your reply
Cheers!

Vervizon S4. On MI1,..NEED MJ7. Strange Update. Pls Read.

Okay so I have a regular stock Verizon Samsung Galaxy s4 . I've been using it with my T-Mobile Service & SIM Card in the phone. Works quite Perfect. The original baseband firmware version that I had in my phone was: ME7. I heard that there was an update to "MJ7" that was rolling out, updating the firmware in the phone to android 4.3, along with unlocking some other cool device capabilities such as the other LTE and AWS bands. So naturally I downloaded the Samsung KIES program for my PC in order so I could connect my phone and get the firmware upgrade. Upon connecting my phone Samsung KIES did indeed say that there was a new version available for download that would upgrade my phone to the MJ7 version. I decided backup my phone first before performing the upgrade. After doing so the next day I connected my phone to my computer and opened the KIES program, and it told me that time that the new firmware version available for my phone was MI1!?!? Not MJ7 like it said the day before. I thought that was a bit strange but then I thought that maybe I had to upgrade to that version before I could upgrade to the "MJ7". I allowed it to upgrade my phone to MI1. After it upgraded I went back and checked for another update and now it is telling me that I have the most current firmware version in my phone..."MI1". I rebooted my phone and PC several times and checked for updates and it still hasn't daid that MJ7 was available! What have I done to you? Did I do something wrong? Why did Samsung Kies initially tell me that MJ7 was available but now it will not anymore, after updating to MI1 ( the version that it told me was the most current release) this all happened on this past saturday and sunday. I would definitely appreciate any help whatsoever in uncovering this firmware update mystery, and the ability to update my phone to firmware version MJ7. Not only do I want the Android 4.3 but since I am using this phone on tmobile it will give me extra functionality to use the LTE BANDS on GSM instead of just 3G or H+. Thanks in advance to all!

I read something about Samsung pulling the 4.3 update for some carriers... due to an issue with the Wi-Fi maybe? It may have shown up on Kies, then been pulled. I'm sure it will be back once they get the issues sorted out. Or you could possibly look for an update.zip on here and manually do the update yourself

[Q] Verizon Galaxy s4 encountered firmware upgrade issue.

I'm new to developing and not too experienced. I attempted to root my phone, but was only successful with unlocking the Boot loader. When I attempted to download the new Kit-Kat update, my phone encountered a Firmware upgrade issue. Now in recovery mode, Kies 3 fails to connect nor recognize my phone.

Bah. Kies sucks. Odin is a much better tool for updating / fixing things. What update were you on, as it is important to know the actual build version as well because there are often mini updates that keep the same android version but update other things that can cause a headache if not rooted or modified properly. Also, are you sure it was the bootloader that you unlocked? There is the Loki option and SafeStrap recovery, but not a way to unlock the bootloader unless you have a Dev Edition. I think you had to go to 4.3 before 4.4.2 too. What part did it get to before it failed and you got the error message? If you're lucky, it didn't actually do anything important before it failed, because then you can use Odin to install the original system update you did have then restart from there. If not, then you will need to go to 4.3, then 4.4.2. Once you update to 4.3 and above, your only options for custom roms are via the SafeStrap recovery which has some serious limitations.

I tried to gain root access awhile ago, it showed that my bootloader was unlocked, but I don't recall ever gaining root access, so I left it alone and figured I was just gonna wait for Kitkat. It's weird what is happening to my phone now. It just says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." After trying Kies Lite and normal both versions 1 & Kies 3, my phone won't even be read nor connect to Kies anymore. It won't show up in Odin. I have tried fully uninstalling all the Samsung programs on my computer then redownloading and installing them and still no luck. I really don't know what else to do. Should I just take my phone into Verizon and try my luck?

The chance of finding someone at VZW who could fix this is pretty slim. But the open lock graphic that shows up when you first boot the phone does not imply the bootloader is unlocked on Galaxy phones, unlike say, a Nexus. It just means that something has been done to trip the custom binary check. If you tell me what update you were on, I can tell you how to fix your phone, or if you don't know, then you just need to follow this :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2578209
It should show up in Odin. Not when it has the warning like that, but when you boot to Download Mode. I've bricked plenty of Galaxies like that and have been able to recover every one.

Ok. Thanks, man. I was running on 4.3. My laptop runs Ubuntu, is Odin compatible with this software?

[Q] Error installing a software update

I just received a notice from Verizonwireless that there is a new software update available. So I went ahead and downloaded the update and attempted to install it. After a few seconds a new window opened showing the stupid Android robot laying on its back and the word "error" displayed. Thinking something bogus is going on with my phone I did a factory erase and retried the software update - same results.
Any way to determine what the error is and correct it so I can do the SW update? Out of curiosity I tried using ClockworkMod Rom Manager to install a custom ROM but got the same error indication.
My phone is a Verizon Galaxy S4 with Andriod version 4.3. The baseband version is I545VRUEMK2.
Thanks.

Sounds like your phone has been rooted / modified. This would be why. Samsung + VZW conspire to make it a mess to update officially when you have modded the phone. Just install the update via the PC and Odin. It is more reliable anyway than OTAs. If there is not an official 4.4 Odin version yet, then install the MK2 update that way and then factory reset then take the OTA.
But sounds like you really aren't sure what you are doing because you should NOT be attempting to use ClockWorkMod Rom Manager on a Verizon S4 with that update!! With the whole locked bootloader fiasco, this operation is not permitted as you can only use the SafeStrap recovery system to load custom roms. Really have to read up some more before you get your phone into a situation it might not find it's way out of...

Hi es0tericcha0s - Thanks for pointing out that Rom Manager shouldn't be used on a VZW Galaxy S4. I knew that but totally forgot about that fact.

You're welcome. What you need is here:
http://nasirtech.blogspot.com/2014/04/i545vrufnc5-android-442-kitkat-firmware.html
Or a 100 other places, but that one came up first.
I also find it best to factory reset after the update for best results.

Downloading system update

Just took a look at my phone and a system update is downloading - says it's 526.6mb. It was already 50%+ done by the time I took a look. Anyone know what it's about?
Was able to get into the "Learn more" part and it's updating the version to VS99023A. Supposedly provides improved WiFi calling performance and a clarification to the USB connection pop-up when the phone is charging.

No clue, got the same thing. Didn't think N was available, so may be 6.1
Edit: https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/lg-v10-update/
It is unlocking your boot loader and removing bloatware.
Tried to update...it errored out.
I had root, then restored to update to Marshmallow. My status is still listed as "modified" is there anyway to fix that so I can take this update?
Edit:
I reflashed the 22A with LGUp with Refurbish mode. Then updated. Was good to get a fresh start, I guess....
