Boot Loop I need Help - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hi Guys first off let me say thank you in Advance for you help.
My problem is I'm helping a guy I work with root his Verizon Galaxy S4 the ME7 Version. What I helped him do is Install Root on his Device so were definatly rooted. Then he installed safe strap and downloaded the Hyper-Drive 9. The problem is that the rom installs fine but when we reboot we keep getting the boot-loop black screen. Every time I try to do a full system wipe it Fails so I'm not sure what the issiue is, obviously I'm missing something. I created a data partition fine with no problems I followed Zedo Max Instructions to the letter but there is something getting me hung up. Please guys guide me in the right direction to get this issiue resolved thanks again guys

I'm not on safe strap, but, from what I've read, after installing your Rom of choice, you have to install another safe strap link (can't remember/know what it is) on top of the rom, before rebooting. Have you done that? If not, go to the xda safe strap site for the info. Sorry, I can't link it.

tried that but still didn't work. What I did was root the phone, then I crated a rom slot gave that slot a nickname then activated that slot proceeded to wipe then advance to wipe dalvic, cash and system I think. At that stage when I slide my finger to wipe it says Failed.. please someone help me with this

Hmm possibly a bad download of the rom. Try to re download and install.. Also in the past some roms had to be installed on a specific rom slot... Just a thought

I've decided to root.

I think I know what to do, but could someone please talk me through it like I'm 5? I really don't want to brick my phone. Everything from backing up the stock Rom, to rooting, then recovering stock Rom if needed? I know it's a silly request, but I appreciate any help.

just follow this thread step by step and you will be fine.

One further question...
How do I backup before root? Do I even need to?
I know to get Titanium Backup and use it after root, but what do I need to do before root, if anything, before starting the process linked above?
Also, will rooting make me lose my settings and downloaded apps? I know I should know the answer to this, but it's been quite some time since I rooted anything and I can't remember. I can't find an answer to this question specific to my device.
Again, thank you for any and all assistance. It is truly appreciated.
yes, you should always backup before doing anything, just in case.
here is a link to twrp, which is what i use for my custom recovery and backups.

I'm now rooted.
Thank you for your help.

FYI: It's really hard to fully brick your phone. 99% of the time if you **** up, wether it little or extreme, usually a semi brick.
Now that you are rooted before you flash roms or kernels
First things to do:
-Download goo manager
--Install open recovery script
---this installs twrp recovery
(Or another recovery of your choice)
-reboot into recovery
--hit backup
---make a backup (known as nandroid)
That will make it so if you ever **** your phone up, you reboot into recovery wipe the phone and restore the backup and you're basically back at a 100% stock phone just with root (it'll be the exact way it is now, or however it is when the backup is made).
Have fun!

[ROM][ODIN][TAR] SM-N900P MI3 Stock Restore Tar

Credits: Our thanks to Samsung-Updates.com for posting MI3/MI5.
Until I have time to clean this up I figured I would post this now and we'll update it later.
It's more important to make sure people have this while testing new things.
Samsung-Updates.com has posted MI3 here:
http://samsung-updates.com/details/14398/Galaxy_Note_3_Sprint/SM-N900P/SPR/N900PVPUBMI3.html
MI5 Link:
http://samsung-updates.com/details/14398/Galaxy_Note_3_Sprint/SM-N900P/SPR/N900PVPUBMI5.html
As usual we're putting it up on Rwilco's repository. I am not doing anything with them though for a few reasons.
1) At the moment neither I or rwilco12 have a device to test with.
2) Given the issues with Knox I am leary in doing anything without addressing #1.
Link to Stock ROMs:
http://www.rwilco12.com/downloads.php?dir=Files/Devices/Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900P)/Stock ROMs/
Download, flash in Odin/Heimdall. This current version will wipe your data.
TESTED AND WORKING - Great Work bud!
Any other DL links? Its not downloading anything.. On either link. Thanks
EDIT: Might be on my end I think it is working now. I already did something and messed it up. Very easy fix but I cant believe the n00b mistake I did lol. Oh well
Edit 2: Last one lol but link did work and was able to restore. Thanks!

Yellow Sprint screen? I'm stuck at that one as well... How long did you have to wait?
Have you guys tried wiping data in stock recovery after the full Odin restore?

I'll have a how to video up as soon as it's all said and done. I got my Note 3 two days ago!
Couple questions
I am roped with TWRP but want to reinstall the stock ROM again but keep my recovery and hopefully root.
Will this allow that? I'd so how do I flash it?
Also saw this was MI3 if I do flash this can I update to MI5 again after?

Mine was stuck on the yellow sprint screen. I went in the stock recovery and wiped data, and after that it loaded up perfect. So if you are stuck on the sprint screen, try that and it might help you.

[Q] Sprint Galaxy Note 3 rooted, unable to tether.

Hello all,
I will confess that I am an absolute noob. I have had my Sprint Galaxy Note 3 since November last year. I finally decided to go ahead and root my phone so that I could use the tether feature. I also like the idea of having control of my own device. I have been reading and reading, and reading on the forum and referencing information from a copy of the Android Hacker's Toolkit by Mr. Jason Tyler and Will Verduzco.. and I'm confused. The information is great however the vast majority of it is over my head.
I have used Chainfire's method for rooting my phone and have installed TWRP for the recovery, and have made a back-up. I have tried installing and using WiFi Tether by TopAppLoft and several other applications from Google Play. I am unable to get the wireless router to work.
What could I try in order to be able to use the WiFi router without having to pay the extra $ to Sprint?
Thank you in advance for any information anyone can provide

Go here then to general mods and you will find the hotspot mod that allows you to use the native hotspot that comes on the phone. Sorry you have had so many views and no help. Any more questions ask here or you can pm me and I'll try to point you in the right direction.

Just realized the download link is broken. You can ask the developer if he could send it to you via pm or micmars may be able to help you get it. You could also try one of the many roms in the development section. I Believe most if not all have it incorporated.

Thank you sir! I took a peek and the Odexed Blue ROM looks like a pretty cool ROM. Once I flash the ROM if I want to go back to what I originally had I can just use the Reboot Recovery command through Goomanager? I created a nandroid back-up file through Goomanager of the current configuration on my phone.
It will be a few days before I can get back home and flash a ROM but thanks again and I will let you know how it goes. :good:

I honestly only used goomanager a few times and never made a backup with it. I use twrp for backups and flashing as I believe most others in this forum do as well. I would consider making a backup through recovery unless someone can tell you otherwise. All the roms should have the 4 in 1 power menu and you can access recovery through there. The two easiest ways to go back if you were unhappy with a rom would be to restore a backup through recovery or Odin back to stock. However I think you will be very happy with strongsteve and his odex blue rom. I have used his rom since he released it and it really is flawless and very appealing to the eye. Good luck. Let us know if you need help.

Sir,
I selected Bonsai_BETA_v0.0.5 - 01.14.2014 as my new ROM to flash as it lists the native hotspot mod as one of the things it has included. I was unable to figure out how to install OdexBlue through Odin version 1.85 (this was Chainfire's autoroot application) and I was unable to locate OdexBlue through Goomanager. I made sure to do a nandroid back up and did a complete wipe as I installed Bonsai through Goomanager. I successfully flashed it however I do not know how to get the Native Hotspot feature to work without it telling me to "Call Sprint Customer Service" to activate it. Not sure what I should try at this point. Perhaps try another ROM or seek out the Native Hotspot mod from Mr. Micmars?
If you want odex blue download it from the rom thread to your PC then put it on your sd card. For some reason my phone will not download the odex blue roms. No need to use goomanager to download roms, you will find the download link in the original post where you find the rom description. Once it is on your sd card reboot to recovery, make a backup in recovery, wipe system, data, cache, and dalvic cache. Now from the main menu of recovery go to install, find the rom and install it. Reboot and it should work fine. These are the basic instructions for most roms but always read the developers instructions as some are slightly different. I'm guessing you may not have wiped system, data, and cache which may not allow you to use the hotspot mod. Report back with your results.

[Q] Can't restore backups and other issues

What's up guys, I'm running into an unusual issue here and could really use some guidance. I tried searching around, and the only solution I KNOW will work is to start from scratch, using odin to go back to stock, re-rooting, and then slowly trying to work my way back to where I was before the FUBAR.
So, I was recently using LiquidSmooth 2.9 and went to make the leap to 3.0. Flashed everything, got confirmation that it went through ok, and then I just got stuck at the Samsung Galaxy s4 screen, nothing happens after that. So, I went to restore from the backup that I took earlier and I got a failure to restore.
Not to worry, I figured, I'll just reinstall from the zips for 2.9 that I still had on my SD card. Well, I do that and everything seems to work fine with the flash, but now I'm STILL stuck at the Samsung Galaxy S4 boot screen and STILL, nothing happens after that.
Any suggestions on what to do here? Flash a new kernel? Am I stuck going the long route and having to Odin everything back to stock and then re-root, etc?.

Id download the latest liquid file again just in case that file was corrupt somehow.
That's usually been the problem lately from what I've been seeing. You really shouldn't have to Odin.
Also the kernel shouldn't matter but I always flash kts latest kernel with liquid but others don't and have no issues.
Grab that file again
Do a couple wipes in recovery
Flash away

S4 stuck on unlock samsung splash screen

I tried updating my rom and my phone will not boot. I cannot get past the samsung splash screen showing me the unlock icon. I have tried installing a different recovery, wiping everything, restoring from a backup from my SD card... no luck. I have been reading on here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30386309 and it kind of sounds like my issue. sometimes when I try wiping and installing a rom, the phone reboots when it has to write data, eg. installing gapps. no matter the gapps package im installing, kit kat or jellybean, the phone will reboot in the middle of the install. it is almost like the R/W is now corrupt. Anyone have any idea?
We need more info than that etc build you are on, and what build you were trying to update to.

Well there are some partial downgrade methods on here which require a few files and Odin again. I haven't done it myself and I've seen some have no issues at all with it and some have had nothing but issues.

It installed and booted up fine. I installed some apps and rebooted. Now stuck on the Samsung logo with blinking blue led light. Can't get into recovery.
