[Q] Do you put your XZU in your pocket? - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Hi, just wondering if you guys put your XZU in your pocket? I don't use a case and it feels so thin it would break from pressure. I don't wear skinny jeans either.

Of course I put it in my pocket.
Sent from my Xperia Z Ultra using xda app-developers app

Yeah, it goes into my front pocket unless I'm outside wearing a jacket. It won't snap in half, but it might bend if you're not careful. A nice rule is to take it out of your pocket when you sit down.

[email protected] jeans! Yep left front pocket & and every time I pull it out I get. "Whoa that's a big A$$ phone, what kind of phone is that" :good:

Yep mine goes in my front left pocket as well, unless i'm wearing cargos for work, then it is in left thigh pocket. I do have a case/cover as I'm in and out of my truck all day so need something that will take a bit of abuse.

me too

doing this too but now I am having second thoughts.
Now my phone seems to be a little bended/curved. When I lay it on a flat surface it rocks a tiny bit telling me it is a bit curved. Now I am trying to put a heavy book on top off it to make it "flat" again.

Mine spends most of its time on my desk. After that, it would be my work vest, left chest pocket.
Then third would be my left pant/short front pocket. Then.... hmmmm would have to be next to the pie in my car!
Jokes... its not a pie... more than likely just crumbs!

Nice! Feel a bit safer putting it there now. Love looking at other people read stuff on their phone, looks so uncomfortable.
My rule is front pants or jacket when walking and jacket or show it off when sitting

Oh no.. is the size of an'ebook reader, i've got it in a mall.. and is the exact size of the XZU..
well.. maybe an inch more wide.. but suits well.

You must be joking.

This is where I put it in my car =) A bit higher now so I can grab the steering wheel better.

even with a flip cover it still fits in most of my pockets. People comment on how thin it is even in the cover then I take it out for them

Gorilla glass not so tough...

Sorry need to vent and before anyone asks, I have ordered some accessories already, no ones got anything locally. So here goes my story.... By accident I dropped my phone on a mat and it bounced lightly and hit the gym floor, I was sitting down so my phone was only about 12" from the mat. Anyways long story short I have a nice 4mm scratch on my screen...
I have had a few phones with gorilla glass thats been dropped harder and no scratches.. Like my infuse that got its housing dented and landed face down. (wasn't my fault, friend dropped it) Im so pissed right now, this thing is only 2 days old.

It is possible to scratch Gorilla Glass; Corning's marketing materials call it "scratch resistant". My Photon 4G has Gorilla Glass and the previous owner managed to scratch it.

You could have dropped it on some miniscule piece of sharp metal or something... who knows.
That first scratch is always the worst ;(
Man, sorry to hear about your GNote. I would be distraught. Everyone be careful with your new phones! AND get your screen protectors on.
First cut is the deepest
Could it be possible that the scratch happened from another incident where you wouldn't expect damage at all and you never really noticed till you dropped it then closely examined it? For example.. Sliding it into your jeans pocket while the face of the phone scrapes along the copper stud at the top of the fob/ticket/watch pocket (the small one)...
That has totally happened to me a long time ago with my blackberry, was PISSED that I had a long ass scratch on my screen and was puzzled as to how it came to be. Until I slide it in my pocket only to notice it happen again and realized lol
But, again, that was just an example of a seemingly harmless but destructful act.
I was going to say you must have a nice gym where the floor is made of diamonds...
Sorry about the scratch, tho. Your scratch looks just like mine - which I can't actually see if the display is on. Hopefully yours isn't too bad.
I don't see how because you happened to scratch your screen it equates to the device not having gorilla glass at all. Its not indestructible ya' know.

To be fair, though, your post title looks like you're trolling. I'd suggest changing it if you can...nothing wrong with venting, but spreading misinformation is kind of uncool even though you're frustrated (and I can definitely relate to that). Maybe "Gorilla Glass isn't as tough as I thought..." and then show an HD video of the vball game shot with your Note just because you can.

My Captivate is 1 1/2 years old. I've never had a screen protector near it. I've dropped the thing a dozen times, it even slid 15 feet on it's face on an asphalt covered hill. I stuck it in and out of my pocket over 1,000 times and it doesn't have one scratch on the glass.
I was really hoping we would get the same protection on the Note.
Guess I am going to re-think the whole screen protector thing. Bummer!

Evo LTE Fatality

This might be the first fatality of an Evo LTE. It happened early this morning. I was loading my work truck with pipe for a project and I climbed up to tie down the pipes on the rack. I bent down to reach the ratchet tie and my phone slipped out of my shirt pocket landing face down onto some gravel. The back cover popped off. I climbed down and picked it up, and as I turned it around I saw the damage. Surprisingly I didn't freak out as one would expect. I called the insurance company and after paying the $100 deductible, a new phone will arrive in about 2 weeks. I had just bought the phone on Saturday so I hadn't really enjoyed it much yet.
Being that these phones are still new and some even on back order, I hope I'll be receiving a NEW phone and not a refurbished one. Lesson learned... never putting my phone in my shirt pocket again.

I had the blue silicon gel case from sprint on it and from what it looks like it survived. However if I apply any pressure on the bottom of the phone below the home button on the plastic that touches the metal it makes a cracking sound like the plastic is rubbing together, and that could just be that small back plastic piece where the speaker is, does anyone else's phone make that sound?

Not sure if the Nexus 10's size will work for you? Test drive a cut-out model!

Basically, this involves you making some kind of cut-out with exactly (or as close as possible) the same measurements as the Nexus 10 itself. A decent way of testing out the form-factor of such a device, whenever you can't get access to such a device, or if you want to try it out before purchase.
Materials possibly needed:
- Cardboard (or paper, or whatever you want to construct the decoy tablet with)
- Ruler (at least 1 ft will do fine)
- Marker (or something to mark off measurements before cut-out)
- Scissors (or something sharp)
1. Get your material of choice. I used the bottom of some random cardboard box I had lying around:
{

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2. Mark off the height of the device. In the case of the Nexus 10, 177.6mm = 6.992126 inches
3. Mark off the length of the device. In the case of the Nexus 10, 263.9mm = 10.389764 inches
4. Draw some guidelines to make cut-out possibly easier.
5. Cut it out!
6. Next you'll want to get the actual usable area of the screen marked. My math probably failed somewhere, but the screen size at a diagonal-angle is 10 inches. The length of the total tablet at a diagonal angle is 12.5 inches (or at least my model was). 12.5 - 10 = 2.5 inches. I then took 2.5 and divided it by 2 (to get the placement in accordance to both sides) which came to 1.25 inches. Therefore, I put the screen 1.25 inches from the edge of the model. Not 100% sure if my math here was correct though, so if at all in doubt, may just want to measure the points yourself And also, my measurements were a bit sloppy here since 2 sides appear somewhat uneven
7. Draw some guidelines for the usable screen area and add whatever other details you want.
Now try walking around your house or wherever you want with the mock-tablet and see how it fares for you. See if swiping the cut-out feels good or not, see if you can hold it well while laying down on a couch or bed. Test if it will sit on your table, do whatever you would might normally do with the tablet, and just see if it generally works or not.
Not sure if you'd want to go out in public trying such a model though, so you might have to just get a general idea for that Also this would probably just work for... any device you'd want it to, just have to know the measurements for it
I found that I sort of like how the Nexus 10 feels. Could probably use it around the house without too much trouble at all, and even works out nicely while laying down.
As for simulating the weight; the Nexus 10 weighs 603 grams, or 1.32 pounds. Not really sure how you would simulate the weight and keep the form-factor of the cut-out, but I'm sure something creative can be thought up
I drew light bleed and a dead pixel on my cardboard cutout. I need to make a replacement .

To simulate weight you could always tape a ziplock bag full some washers or change to the back. I did a quick calculation and it'd take ~100 quarters, so that's why I suggest just filling a bag with some weight. It might not be the best for getting a form feel, but probably the quickest/easiest way to simulate weight.

Carrying around z ultra -- what's your method??

Do you have a handbag?
Do you put it in shirt/jacket pocket?
Do you put it in trousers/jeans pocket? Front or back(Don't sit on it!)?
I am sure carrying ZU has forced a few of us to change regular pattern.
I always had front left jeans pocket reserved for phone and wallet. But now that the thing is a bit larger than the average phone, and that it still feels funky(voer a month of use) when I climb up stairs with ZU in front left pocket... It made me think of alternatives.
My belly is a bit too big to have a holster on my belt...
When winter comes, i can use jacket inside pocket, and I think it would work well.
But until then.....
I want a man-bag
Has anyone bought a handbag recently, because they felt the need since purchasing Z Ultra?
I want it just big enough to transfer what used to be in my front and back pockets into the bag, and yet have a perfect compartment to fit my ZU. I have a big bunch of keys, Z Ultra, at least 1 pack of cigarettes, maybe 2, lighter, wallet
It would be nice if accessibility is convenient, compartmentalised so that it won't scratch up the phone and well protected.
Anyone care to share their bag-choosing decision with me?
I bought a bag for my ultra lol its like a small messenger bag.
Sent from my C6833 using xda app-developers app
I thought about carrying around a messenger bag of some kind when I don't have my notebook with me (i.e. going to work). You know, something small, compact, and easy to carry. But the smaller they got, the more purse-like they look. Just sounded like more trouble that it was worth.
So when I'm wearing loose shorts, it goes in my pocket just fine. If I'm wearing jeans, such as to work, I use this leather pouch. Works great.
http://www.pdair.com/index.php/smar...-ultra-xl39h-horizontal-pouch-type-black.html
I may switch things up when/if I actually find a case that works for me (still going sans case/protector) and when my SBH52 arrives. In which case I could at least toss it in my notebook bag in certain situations. Right now, I kind of want easy access to it.
I'm still wanting a good belt-clip case/holster, but I've yet to find one.
I just put it in my left pocket in my jacket or on the left outside pocket.. Works good. But I might purchase some leather case but not right now.
I have it in my front pocket, unless i wear slimfit pants, then i'll put it in my jacket (if i'm wearing one). I take it out of my front pocket when i sit down. That's not necessary if it's in my jacket though. That's all i guess. When i wear a blazer or suit, it'll go in the inside pocket.
Shirt pocket.
Front left pocket always for me.
My pants aren't very tight lol
I always take it out of my pocket when sitting down though.
Left jeans pocket.

Working in London a man bag is not laughed at but actually a normal accessory, so the Ultra paired with a SBH52 is a great combination.
Sometimes in the big front pocket of my fleece, or suit inner pocket, but never in my jeans pocket, as I just know I'd forget and have a broken phone.
It fit inside my pocket but really annoying and uncomfortable, even in the hand Best way is put on the dock and use like a tablet.

I haven't been able to find a casing anywhere that fits the dimensions of the ZU. The closest I've seen is the case for iPad air, and that's not even close.. I do love my Phablet either way though <3

Just a Simple Stand (I just bought one)

Not a dock, or a charger, just a cheap little stand for the desk or the table to prop the N3 up hands free.
Why can I find one? What are you guys using?
My favourite hobby always is to build them with whatever I find on my desk with sticky tape... (I know that's not much help).
There's a great thread on here (which I can't find at the moment, it would have been on the HD2 threads two years ago), about how a few small cuts to a credit card make a great portable stand.
Like this image, but there's much better versions on here somewhere.

60 peeps have viewed this thread and only one of them has ever wanted to prop their phone up in landscape to watch something?
I find that hard to believe, with such a nice screen :crying:

I got a couple of these. Took a bit to get and when they showed up I forgot I had ordered them (a few minutes trying to figure out what they were).
Very light, collapse, carry one in my tablet case. Use them all the time to read, watch etc.. in both landscape and portrait mode.
5 bucks...

You're lucky. I told my kid he couldn't get a phone till he was 12 :laugh:
I ended up ordering one of these, (mainly because of the adjustability and the rubber).
I'll let you folks know what I think of it when I get it.

Thanks for the offer Mark, I could only dream of living near you, (i'm stuck in cold Chicago).
Probably wouldn't feel good in your pocket, but that doesn't mean we won't see you on Shark Tank soon :good:

^^^ that. Its pretty nifty. Wish there was a heavier duty version in plastic or metal though. And wish the arms folded out closer so it will hold my note3 in portrait mode. Only works in landscape. I use a straw or flat chopstick to hold in portrait.
sent from my sm-9005.
Standard business card holder. Holds the phone in landscape perfectly and you can still connect the power and stereo cords.

It looks like you could put a Qi charger on that, or maybe fasten it to the back of the mesh, then you'd have a wireless charging stand.
I think I'll go get one of those tomorrow to test with my LG WCP-300. If I don't forget overnight, that is!
