Hi I bricked my sgs2.
It won't turn on or even come up with a screen when plugged into the mains.
So I looked on here and people was mentioning a jig.
Bought one and still doesn't bring up download mode.
Anyone know how I can bring my sgs2 back to life
Thanks

JIG's aren't a fix for bricked phones mate, they just assist with download mode and counter reset.
There has been quite bit of mis-information about them.
I am not expert enough to help, sorry dude, hopefully someone can steer you in the right direction.

Im in the exact same situation. Feeling pretty dumb at the moment.....
Jig didnt worked for me either. Damn
The story is
SGS 1 usb brought the phone to download mode when three button trick failed
SGS 2 Someone found early that using the jig to boot phone zeroed the custom rom counter.
SGS2 presumption was that the jig would still help with download mode so many have told the many newbies who have flashed without following instructions to buy a jig
Last week a poster said it does not and can not recover download mode unless the three button download mode also works .
jje
Thanks man. So that means my phone is dead ?

Your phone is alright. Take a breath and go in Sprint and download an ROM when one is available. You just installed the wrong stuff but its an easy fix. Might take days some time for a rom to come online though
Just return it to sprint when they get some in stock and get a new one.

Can you get the phone into download mode?
To do this, pull the battery out (to make sure the phone is completely off), plug it in, hold the volume-down and home buttons then turn it on while holding those buttons.
If you can get it into download mode, then it should be possible to reflash the proper firmware using Odin.
Or at least, that's how things went when I had my Samsung Vibrant. I've only owned my S3 for a day.

Sorry, you're qhsusb_dload (aka hard) bricked. I've spent about 3 days trying to fix mine after I bricked it flashing a kernel on a bad port of cwm. If I had a working S3 and another 3 days I might be able to un-hardbrick it, but yeah, will just be exchanging it as soon as they come back in stock.

Just take it to Sprint but don't tell em you was trying to download a custom rom.. Simple they probably don't know the issue yet until more people start taking they brick phones in because they tried to root..
I think you overpaid for your paperweight . Yes, I feel a little cruel for making a joke about someone who just lost $600, but you do still have a chance at exchanging it at Sprint. Bricking a phone is every custom rom users worst nightmare, but that's probably your best option. Good luck.
Same Probelm...Sort of
Yeah I did the same thing I think, tried to flash a kernel via cwm, said operation aborted...ok....so I reboot it and now it wont turn on, cant get it in download mode. Weird thing is though when i plug it in to my computer and hold down the power button, while nothing happens to my phone my computer will continuously make the connect disconnect sound like my phone is turning on for a nano second.
and if my phone is plugged in with battery out red charge light comes on, so I know something is going on in there.
any thoughts on how/if I can fix....
Yeah I may be a crook. But I would take the battery out and stick the headset in the microwave for about 3 seconds. You have insurance on it. Do what you got to do. They lie, cheat, and steal every chance they get.

Sorry, you're hard-bricked. As I mentioned in a previous post, your phone is in "qhsusb_dload" mode, which is a Qualcomm firmware flashing mode. If you look in your Device Manager, that's what you'll see your computer is detecting. There's absolutely nothing you can do at this point as no one outside Qualcomm/Samsung has the proper tools/files to recover from this state.

Hello all,
I am the proud new owner (first time android owner as well) of a Galaxy S3 SGH-1747, and I am still learning the ins and outs of the phone but so far I am loving this thing.
However, I did run into some issues when I did an install of a ROM AOKP Task & KToonsez ROM. The first major problem is that my computer will now not read my phone, whereas before it was able to register it. I know I have the correct drivers installed and I have the android usb debugging thing box checked in my settings. I have tried several different USB ports now thinking it might be that but they all do not read it. As smooth as this ROM is, it is still in the early stages and there are a lot of bugs and kinks that need to be worked out still so I would like to either switch back to the stock ROM or aim for a more stable one. I am not sure how I can do either of this without a copy of the original touchwiz ROM on there.
Please help me figure this problem out lol.
Flash your nandroid. I'm sure you made one like you're supposed to.

Okay, Im an ass so I say that up front. I flashed a bad kernel and I hardbricked my 5 day old galaxy s3 fro Tmobile. I took it to the local repair place that does JTAG repairs, which btw, does not work on the weekends. according to them the JTAG'ing takes 40 hours which I think is more because I kept calling and seeing if the phone was showing any signs of life. Anyone know how long the actual JTAG procedure actually takes cause 40 hours seems like a long time to me. Even after they said there was no guarantee that it would work and bring my phone back from the dead.
I am not new to rooting or flashing roms and kernels and things of that nature. So for the record I did not read first about bad kernels floating about so again Im an ass.
First mistake was flashing anything from this forum, this is for the international version ONLY.
Secondly a jtag should bring it back to life.
I'm not sure of the timeframe but 40 hours seems like a lot of time to do anything.

A kernel won't hardbrick a phone. If you flash a correct kernel it should boot. A way to brick it is to flash a wrong firmware from here. Cause the first thing being flashed on a firmware with odin is bootloader. Then you will have an expensive paperweight.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
afaik s3 has separate kernel and recovery where flashing a kernel dosent touch the recovery , so practically it should not be hard bricked
If I were you I would approach to XDA forum first! where all the " DO DOES " happen!
are you 100% sure its bricked?
I dont really know about it, but from my experience bootloader flash and emmc bug are the only ways to hardbrick S3, flashing wrong kernel should make your phone unbootable, but shouldnt do a **** to your download mode (if flashed right, put under pda in odin), however if you put it under bootloader box, than it might flashed kernel on bootloader partition which deffinatly makes hard brick.

Kinda like me I still use my S3 as a backup phone for streaming music on Wi-Fi/hotspot, playing games, hooking it up to my tv, and flashing ROM's when I get an itch, and don't feel like changing my current Note setup. I really like the Galaxy Mod ROM for the S3 mainly because it has Multiwindow, which I can no longer live without!
Sent from my Inverted Beans ROM @ 240 DPI
So, you flashed a Note 2 kernel that is for an Exynos SoC to the SGS3, which is a Qualcomm SoC? I'm not sure why anyone would even think to try this in the first place, so I'm not sure why you felt the need to warn everyone. Also, this is exactly the reason VZW locks the bootloader, because people do things like this and then get warranty replacements.
As for fixing it, you should be able to, but you likely need a USB jig to force it into download mode, then a full Odin tar plus a PIT file so you can re-partition properly.
Exactly what imnuts said. People sending their phones back for warranty replacement due to mistakes THEY made themselves is exactly why verizon is locking bootloaders and why rooting voids your warranty. If people took responsibility for their own actions, the rest of us wouldn't have to pay for the consequences.
Should change the title to I bricked my phone by flashing a kernel that was not made for my phone. The kernel did not brick your phone you did by making a really bad decision.
This thread is bad and you should feel bad, too.

This may be the most ridiculous thread I've seen in a long time. But only the fact instead of paying for his mistake he thinks some how is Samsung responsibly, but how completely ridiculous he was to knowingly flash a note 2 kernel on a s3.
op why do you think there are different sub forums for phones and even carriers. You're probably one of the people who flashed an international ROM too. ...Then sent your hard bricked phone in for warranty
