Hi I just recently unlocked and rooted my rezound and am looking to install a custom rom. There are so many ICS roms out there and I find it hard to sort through them and find the best one. I would like to know: Which ICS Rom is the most stable, which ICS Rom is de-sensed the most, if the rom updates the mainversion, and which ICS kernel is the best (and where to download it. Thank you for your help!
All the Devs list bugs in the first post of the from thread so read that carefully before flashing anything.
For stable....I would run Clean Rom ICS by Scrosler or Nils Business ICS if you want full-sense stable along with a bit of the theming done.
As for Senseless...I have been running NewtoRoots Senseless and it has been running awesome for me. The main issue is inability of sending/receiving MMS but I'm using GOsms in the meantime until that is fixed. One of the users packaged the rom to flash the kernel as well if you're not all that comfortable using fast boot right now. In this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22435498
Most of the ICS roms will update your main version unless you flash the kernel (boot.king) via fastboot. There is a how to in the Dev section to revise you main version if you wish to go back to GB.

Thanks for your help! I was actually considering flashing newtoroot's senseless, but just wanted to see if any other roms were any good as well. I will probably flash senseless tomorrow. So when I download the rom, it will automatically flash the kernel, right?

Actually most if not all all the devs have changed the main version to the OTA version number.

Yes they will supply the kernel also. Some devs include it in the rom zip, others have it as a seperate dowload. You wil have to read the first couple posts in the thread to see what it says. Follow the directions of the dev is the best advice.

Just being safe about the main version thing. People tend to get all wild over it even though there is an easy fix for it but thank u for pointing that out
Hey guys, this is my 1st, just wanted to say this is a really awesome community
A few quick questions:
1) DO ROMs such as AOKP (My current) come with CWM? I believe installed CWM v 4 as per droidstyle's (awesome) guide, but then after AOKP was installed, I have CWM v 5.
2) When I look in my phone's root directory I see the folder sdcard, but also in root/mnt/sdcard, is there a difference?
3) What is the difference between flashing via odin, or via CWM if any?
Thanks a bunch for tolerating yet another noob
Welcome to the Forums!. Im new here too but thies seems to be a great place to get information and help, as far as ive seen.
1.)Most Roms do come with CMW, unless the rom doesnt not include its own kernel.
2.)Both sdcard folders are the same, just different ways. Theres a couple folders in android that are like this.
3.)Odin is typically used as a fallback, because CMW can perfroam almost the same functions, except for completely reformatting.

Awesome thanks!
So am I right if I say that ROMs that have their own kernel include CWM because CWM comes in the kernel?

one more quick (noob ^.^) question, why is it that when I go to the cyanogen mod website the ROM is 7.2.0, but on droidstyle's guide the ROM is version 9.x.x? Why is the latest one not on the website when i go to the fascinate download page?

section 3 provides a link to cm7.2 gb(most likely an older version, will update soon)
section 4 provides a link to cm9 ICS
You are probably looking at stable/official builds. As far as I'm aware, cm still classifies ics as experimental and cm7 is the official version.
That said, ice is very much daily driver quality despite what cm says.

I have read through the forums and am hesitant to post, but I am stuck. I have rooted my Note II using Causal and following the tutorial after Verizon's first update. It worked great. I am not using a custom rom, but have the TRWP recovery, super user, busy box installed; I am certain that was part of the Casual Root (thank you Adam). I have also updated Casual to NoYouVerizon, but realized that my phone is already rooted. I want to update to 4.1.2 and have read to not do so OTA. Would someone please either provide a link or directions on how to update I did download the stock Root Odex - I605VRAMC3 on both my PC and my Note II, but have no idea what to do with it.
Thank you
I was in exact same scenario as you. I was rooted and was just using themes but the only way to get updated was to use a custom rom. I may be wrong but that was my way of updating. Since then I have flashed just about every rom out there that is touchwiz. Been happy with the Beans build 17.
Hope this helps!

The best way to do it would be to flash a rom through recovery, and only a rom made for flashing in recovery (ie a .zip, NOT a tar.md5).
You need to figure out which rom you want, download it, make sure the md5 checksum matches, and the flash the zip in your recovery.
There are quite a few choices for stock TW roms, and everyone had a favorite, but you have to decide which you would want and if you want any of the added features. Here are a few of the more popular stock roms that are the latest update from Big Red:
Stock Odex/Deodex:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2108510
This is just the latest straight Verizon stock rom and you can choose the original odex or get the deodexed version if you want to theme your phone because having a deodexed room makes themeing easier and less glitchy.
Beans 17:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2032447
This is the latest Verizon stock rom with a few added tweak and it is themed to look like an AOSP rom.
CleanRom VZW SE 3.1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2073390
This is the latest Verizon stock rom but it had been completely debloated and had an Aroma installer so you can choose what all you want to be present in the rom. It is different from CleanRom ACE. CleanRom ACE is the latest international Note 2 rom that had been modified to work on our phones, it usually has more updates and features than CleanRom VZW SE because CR VZW SE is the Verizon stock rom with very little added. All CleanRom roms have bloatware removed.
You also need to flash the latest radio along with your new rom if you want the newest radio that came with the VRAMC3 update, the radio will be the VRAMC3 one.

I generally move mine to my external SD because I like to wipe the entire internal memory when flashing to a competent different rom to get rid of all the filets and miscellaneous crap that I let accumulate so it'll be like a freshI new phone.
Then again I have a 64 GB micro SD card and keep several different releases of each rom I use along with all the recovery flashable kernels, radios, GAPPs, current version of TWRP and CWM, a couple previous releases of TWRP and CWM, miscellaneous mods, and various other flashable stuff.
Really its all up to you though. I like to keeo everything perfectly arranged in its own folder in my external and leave the internal for apps, if you want evening on your internal you can do that too!
Just remember if you choose to wipe your internal memory before flagging like I do then itll delete EVERYTHING on your internal SD card so you'll need to back up your media (pictures, videos, and music) because itll be deleted. You don't have to wipe your internal memory and it won't hurt anything if you choose to wipe it or if your choose not to hurt anything, it's completely up to you!

When an updated version of Cleanrom comes out you can dirty flash over the current version you are running, however I ALWAYS clean flash Cleanrom because usually the only reason Scott updates it is to fix an issue, rarely because there aren't many, and when a new version comes out. When a new version comes out I like to clean flash, and its recommended to clean flash BTW, because dirty flashing can lead to all kinds of bugs. As for AOSP it is generally recommended to clean flash because it is more lrone to bugs because its constantly updated. Whenever you flash a different rom though, like from Cleanrom to Beans or CR to anything else, you ALWAYS clean flash it.
Just in case you dont know what a clean flash and a dirty flash are:
Clean is when you do the wipes explained in the OP of every rom thread.
Dirty is when you flash a rom over your current one without wiping anything.
if I am going to use TW I am going to use Cleanrom, its just a personal preference. Some people love Beans because it is modded to look like AOSP, personally I would rather run AOSP. As for AOSP I prefer ParanoidAndroid (aka PA or AOSPA) and Vanilla RootBox (aka VRB or RB). I prefer VRB more than PA lately though because for me it seems more stable at the current time, when HALO is finally released for PA I will most definitely test it out and may switch back until VRB kangs it. Really you should run any that tickle your fancy out and see what you think of them before deciding on just one.

Okay - Maybe you can help me one more time...So I dirty flashed over CleanRom ACE to try Beans17. I didn't like it and flashed back to ACE. Everything was working fine until I realized ACE doesn't support Verizon Visual VM. No real big deal, but I use it regularly. So II was going to flash to CLeanRom SE and when I went to do so, I soft bricked my phone (Triangle of Death). I read through the threads and read Adams post to flash back to stock using Odin (downloaded the correct pit file and tar, but Odin will not recognize the device. I tried new cables, ports and installed the latest Samsung USB drivers. Am I stuck taking it to Verizon?

Not yet you aren't, you don't take it to them until its a last resort. this is just a driver issue.
Thats also why I said you needed to clean flash different roms, if you were updating from Cleanrom ACE 4.9 for 5.0 a dirty flash would be acceptable but if you experienced bugs you would have had to go back and clean flash before you could report those bugs and get help from the guys in the CR thread. When flashing completely different roms you ALWAYS clean flash.
Did you put the phone in download mode before connecting to Odin? What OS is your computer on? Do you have both the drivers from droidstyles guide and Kies installed?
I will help you with the driver issue as much as i can but you should really really really create a new thread in the Q&A section about this so it will get more views and maybe Hopesrequiem, droidstyle, and some of the other members who trouble shoot the driver issues can help. You should title it something like Odin driver issue with a soft brick, they'll need to know what OS youre using, what version of Odin you're using, and a lot of other stuff. Before you do that though I have a thread I am going to link in my next post here and I want you to read it and do what it says.

For whatever reason, I thought it would work. In my brilliance, I didn't perform a backup. I still have access to TWRP, so what do I do? Also, does 4.3 exist for the Verizon flavor that is Google Play edition?
Thats for the i9505 international version. Theres some 4.3 ports in the dev section. Since you didnt make a backup of stock youll have to odin back to stock and start over. All the odin images are in the dev section as well.

Did you think it would work because of the "guide" on how to run other carrier's ROMs?
And no one else I know is working on Google Edition 4.3. Mine's not done yet and I've been to focused on 4.2.2's build recently. I'll get back to it eventually.
As far as a fix:
Install another ROM. If you are desperate for SOMETHING 4.3, then install cyanogenmod 10.2(either of the 2 unofficial builds)

Thanks gents. The only reason I'm itching for 4.3 is access to Bluetooth LE for my Fitbit. I used Cyanogenmod for a minute on 4.2 and it was amazing, but BT LE brought me back to stock. It lately started doing that Google Services using 70%+ of the battery, so I started hunting for a 4.3 rom.. in the wrong forum. WOOPS.
I'll probably go back stock until I can get 4.3 rom that has everything working.

Q&A for [ROM] CM 10.1(Android 4.2) for Atrix
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for [ROM] CM 10.1(Android 4.2) for Atrix. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
Kernel question
Hi there,
I am reading from some time threads and threads about the Atrix roms and kernels and since I am finding Android 2.3.4 (yes, still on GB) more and more limited in terms of supported apps I finally decided to make the big move.
I have chosen this ROM and I am currently making up my TODO list: I have the root, I will unlock the bootloader and then I will probably install CWM recovery and then switch the ROM.
I have just one question: I found a lot of threads and articles all around the web talking about how to switch ROM but not how to switch the kernel. Is that because each ROM comes with a bundled kernel and the procedure is the same for both?
It seems to be because I looked at the list of files and folders of one kernel I downloaded and it seems to be just a subset of the files in one of ROMs I downloaded...
P.S. Also, where can I find the Gapps? I found them in the website of CWM, is that ok?
I hope I am not wrong and I hope I will find some support if needed in the next days!
Many thanks

If you chose to switch ROMs to a non Moto ROM, then you will have to install CWM, there is no probably about it. As far as CWM goes, if you are going to go with AtrICS, CM9, CM10, CM10.1, or CM10.2, your best bet would be to go with the recovery from the link found in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302423 seeing as it does cover all partitions and the previously listed ROMs do utilize the webtop partition. If you are going to go with CM11, best bet would be to follow Z's instructions in his thread
AtrICS, CM9, CM10, and CM10.1 have 2 main kernels that they have used, the 2.x kernel and the 3.1 kernel. the 2.x kernel is outdated, and only a handful of ppl still use those versions of the ROM. The 3.1 kernel is ROMs, its more like a kernel update rather than a switching. The link to the kernel updates is here https://www.dropbox.com/sh/npbgtozd4w0ahiv/VIA6JjSf4l and you simply just flash the kernel that corresponds with your ROM via CWM. CM11 kernel updates have come in each of the releases, along with the ones here for v3 https://www.dropbox.com/sh/1w47t4vofyiwveb/AAAyK69Lv3z3oSgGI4Qoh9nha?dl=0
I'm a little confused on where you are getting these Gapps from CWM's website. I've been on there many times including now and I see no mention of any Gapps. As far as Gapps go, you need to use the one that matches up with your ROM version.

Hello,
I was referring to this link (http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager/developers/olympus?name=Motorola Atrix 4G). The last element is about Google Apps if I am not wrong...
I did it by following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302423
But I am missing the Gapps, is there any recommended version for the Gapps on this ROM and where can I find them?
Thank you very much in advance.

Push power button twice might wake it up. I haven't been back on 4.2 lately b/c of the 4.4.4 builds.

I solved my camera issue by cleaning gallery data ( it worked ? ).
I tried waking it up with pressing power button multiiple times ( it didn't work) and by pressing volume buttons ( I enabled it in settings ) but
