Kit Kat.. - T-Mobile HTC One (M7)

I seen on my blink feed today that HTC president announced that Google edition HTC ONE get kit Kat in 15 days, unlocked international get in 30, and us carriers get it in 90 days..

That means they should just skip 4.4 and go to 5.0.... It would be an endless cycle

I'm actually impressed by HTC's devotion to it's customers - yes, the camera issue is definitely a bummer, but obviously it blind sided them.. as far as everything else, this phone is hands down the BEST Android phone ever made IMO.. and continuous prompt updates? Nexus Smeckshush I'll stick with my front facing Beats Audio and crisp PPI, solid/gorgeous construction and Sense UI. For a struggling company HTC is doing an amazing job.

Wow. Amazing.

Have you seen their stock and internal turmoil lately? they NEED to show that devotion for customer retention, otherwise they will truly kick the bucket.
I have a suggestion for HTC or build in more functionality to Sense or scrap it and go straight to plane native Android UI and let people customize it how they wan't I think that its one of the things that is holding this phone (and all their future phones back)

I highly disagree. I just think HTC would allow S-OFF via HTC Dev like they do bootloader. I just converted my TMO HTC One to GPE HTC One just so I can get the latest and greatest Kit Kit when it comes out. And guess what about 90 days from now I will be converting back to TMO HTC One Stock Kit Kat.
I personally like how Sense is setup, it is fluid and minimalistic. It now has the ability to turn off Blink Feed so it is even better. I just wish HTC would give users the option to interchangeable select which OS they want without having to go through pains of making sure you can obtain a S-OFF phone.

I can say that in the middle of our disagreement I can agree with you about Sense, because that's one of the big reasons I pick HTC over any other provider. Now I do know this: everyone, everywhere says the same thing over and over "our phones are as powerful as that computer sitting on your desk" and the sad part is that it's true! But I feel that power hasn't been harnessed yet; there are so much more I feel that are phones should do and currently don't (txt and browse the web at the same time, of for that fact do anything in combination at the same time, and so much more)
And before I get slapped with the statement "Sammy does that", I know... I just feel that with the hardware we have today (which is pretty much the same across all phones, just minor difference like amounts of memory vs screen size and so on...) it wouldn't be a purchasing factor between manufactures but a standard thing in Android....

another forum has a flashable rom. you need the most up to date cwm recovery to flash. GE as well. im not sure what i can say on this forum. if its just linking to another forum or what. but head over to rootzwiki. they have everything you'll need there. its not 100% perfect but it gets the job done

I'm still in love with my HTC One and I have no idea why it didn't have more of an impact when released.
Apparently HTC is struggling with all it's other phones, they might as well perfect one phone like they did with the One.
What does everyone think?
Also I currently have kit kat installed on my One, if you want the ROM I can link you.

You're always gonna get some errors with a unofficial release. I too was running kitkat on my HTC One. The problem is the playstore. A lot of apps aren't available yet. But we don't have much longer to wait, HTC gave there software for the GPe HTC One to Google. Just have to wait for a release and a rom to be created by the great developers.

The Nexus issues are starting

I have been reading the nexus forums, and I just have to LOL.
I seem to remember a ton of people saying "why buy the rezound when the 'superior' google nexus is right around the corner.
seems like they are having issues with screen banding, the phone is very slick and hard to hold. Many people are having battery life issues. The browser is hard to use, there is a volume issue that automatically turns off the volume. It gets hot while using. etc.
just goes to show that every phone has "issues", and you have to pick your poison.
im SO GLAD to be with you guys and on the rezound and when we get ICS the nexus people will be jumping ship
Thats wht they get. That phone is too big for me anyway. I got the rezound soon after release after waiting for months. Like u said pick your poison. The only issue ive had was for some reason the phone decided not to boot up n i hd to do a factory reset. But its bn ok e er since besides the usual htc incredible glitches which i am used to. The size is borderline too big for me but im loving this phone. Cant wait for ICS upgrade

I would have gotten the nexus anyway, but I have a rezound now because I just couldn't justify spending ~$300 for a nexus on contract when I could get the Rezound for free with amazon's deal.
So far I'm happy with the Rezound, although I wish the battery was better. I'm used to my Galaxy S lasting almost 2 days.
You do realize that these issues are related to the gsm device and may not be problems on the cdma/lte version since it's different hardware.

I may have been dreaming as I was surfing the net half asleep last night right before bed, but anyway...I read that the Nexus Volume bug has been acknowledged by Google/Samsung and it is software related not hardware, an update to fix the problem will be released soon. That's the Good thing about Nexus phones, as soon as their is a problem it gets resolved fast.
Btw the volume bug is only on GSM phones in the UK using 900mhz band or something like that. Wouldn't affect Verizon CDMA version.

Exactly my point. This is a "ha ha" post to the people who said the rezound was a pointless buy with the nexus coming out.
Basicly saying every aspect of the nexus was better than the rezound. And now it seems as the playing field has been leveled.
I will have no problem returning the rezound for the nexus nothing aganist this device it feels well built and a decent phone. i do not like sense and a little unsure about how the rooting process goes for htc.

You do know that the Verizon Nexus is going to be bloated as well right? I wouldn't be surprised if they forced Google to lock the bootloader too. It's pretty easy to root HTC phones once S-Off has been achieved. S-off has been achieved apparently, now we're just waiting for proof.
I am on the fence with what to do. The rezound has surprised me and is better than I thought it would be. Will have to see the nexus first. It will probably have better dev support due to the gsm version. And official ROM updates should be more timely than HTC is.

Help convince me....

....to go from a DNA to a Note 2 and now possibly back to a DNA. I know certain users around here might drop their jaws by looking at this post based on my posting history, but I'm considering it.
I must confess, I'm a phone whore. I get bored pretty easily and always like to try new phones, etc. I had a S3 before my original DNA purchase and then I returned that for a Note 2. But now I'm kind of bored with the Note 2. I think since I had the S3 before it, I'm kind of bored with Touchwiz.
There is a guy from my local Craigslist who is willing to do a trade of the phones and he will throw $50 on top. My phone and his are both in mint condition with all of the original accessories, etc. What do you guys think of the deal?
Also, before I consider it any further, I have a few questions:
1. He said the new OTA is installed and it's not rooted. From the quick reading here, there currently isn't a root method for the new OTA. Will there be any time soon?
2. I've seen both sides of this, but will Sense 5 be a realistic possibility? Whether official or unofficial, it doesn't matter to me.
3. Do any of the current custom ROM's make the home screen scrolling any faster? This is one of the biggest ones for me. I just didn't like the slow animations while scrolling the home screens. And please refrain from saying "just install Nova". I know that would help, but I'm talking about Sense.
I need to make a decision by tomorrow, so any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Convince me! LOL.
Thanks!

I like both screens. Depends to me if u want a huge phone or a phablet
Also. If you are like me I'm around a charger quite often so battery doesn't bother me. The DNA did pretty well to last the day on decent use but my usage varies

I believe it will get Sense5.
As for roms making the home screen scrolling faster, idk since I use Nova, but Supercharged Hatka has a lot of speed tweaks.
If I were you I would wait for the S4 since you already tried the DNA and would be tempted to get the S4 when it comes out.

I prefer the size, feel, appearance and screen type. I have not used an LCD in awhile but I really like it at this point.
The note 2 felt like I had a mini tablet in my pocket and this feels like a normal phone.
The grippy material HTC used for the back of the phone makes it very easy to hold in one hand and the shiny plastic on the Note 2 made it difficult.
The shiny appearance of the note 2 was very flashy and it did look enormous compared to most phones where the DNA comes across as a normal ish phone size.
While the battery life on the note 2 was better than the DNA, I've been getting an average of 15-20 hrs per charge with what I would describe as moderately heavy usage.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
Theres nothing better with the DNA. Screen is very subjective (LCD vs amoled). Size is also, depends on person( 1 handed use with note 2/no skinny jeans here) .
I believe with the newest its there is not a way to root/soff yet. And hopefully the devs will provide sense 5. From what I hear Verizon isn't the quickest at releasing updates but that's why we have xda.
Scrolling has gotten better if comparing to intial release.
Personally my gadget addiction needed to try something else. Im currently revisiting the dna for the moment and no real complaints.
My current issue is with development(many slightly tweaked stock roms). Waiting to see what happens after HTC one release.
Samsung devices out of the box are slightly better. You can see all the little things they added when switching to HTC.
Verizon needs to stop touching things. Everything they added is extremely annoying. I'm not extremely hype about sense 5, all I see is a rss reader. Its very clean looking though.

The dna is gsm unlocked straight from Verizon. It means you can pop an at&t(or any other gsm carrier) sim in it and it will work. It has no relation to bootloader unlocking.

I think he would like it unlocked so he can mod it if he wants to, and he probably will.
Be sure you're okay with sense because you'll be using stock wayyyy more than you are used to on other phones. That's the biggest thing you'll notice - while there is good dev support, its nothing compared to n2/gs3 support. You're options will be limited and hence, you'll be using sense (or sense based roms) a whole lot. I switched back for the same reason, touchwiz gets boring quick. I am 90% confident that we'll be getting sense 5.0 so that's good. It may not be for another 2-3 months though Others and yourself are correct in saying that until superCID gets worked out for 2.x.x updates, you (we) are SOL and stuck with stock until further implementation. Because of this, again, hope you're okay with stock

Agreed. I've always had good experiences with call and signal quality with Nokia, from the 6820 and other TDMA phones back in the late 90s and early 00s to the Symbian-based stuff from a while back. If they put some quality Android-based phones together and offered them with a decent custom interface (like Sense) and unlocked, I think they'd make a pretty strong showing.

Ha, I have its big brother the Nokia 6800. That's not a typo, I still have it right here on my desk
I couldn't help but thinking that I have this power to kill phone manufacturers.
My first cell phone back in the mid 90s was the Siemens S3+ and then briefly the S4 (I bet not a lot of people here even know that Siemens used to make cell phones).
After that, I had a couple of Ericsson phones, the GH 337 and the GF 788 (you know how that story ends, they were swallowed by Sony, and then dumped).
Right after that, I became a huge Nokia + Symbian fanboy, the 6800, 6620, N80, E51, E63, E75 (and look at what happened to Nokia and Symbian).
Then three years ago I bought a Dell Streak (the first android phone with 5" screen that nobody really knows about. the following year, Dell stopped making phones).
Finally last week I got myself an HTC One. Look out HTC!!

I mostly agree with your statement, but I believe it will take more than one flagship to get them turned around and charging towards the front. Maybe after 1 or 2 more flagship they will really be doing well. I just can't see one phone having enough time to turn an entire company around. Especially after they bombed out hard with the HTC First. That was a huge mistake for them to try and even sell that phone.

I really hope the HTC One can and will save this company because we need beautiful phones in the variety of androids. I like having choices!

The HTC One is selling well. From here on out they should be fine.
If not Samsung will probably buy them out and HTC can design the phone while Samsung focuses on the guts.

Idk about all of you but I see a heck of a lot of S4s on Craigslist and not too many HTC Ones. Craigslist has been a great indicator for me in the past. I got this one for a note 2 and am glad I got out of Samsung when it is where I believe is at the top before a fall.

Stick with AT&T HTC One or sell and get HTC One Google Version?

I had the Nexus 4 and liked the pure android experience. I am in a dilemma right now on whether or not to sell my ATT HTC One. I'm thinking that since the HTC One Nexus version won't have anything over it, like Sense, that it would run alot more snappier and quicker. Also I would be getting all the updates from Google pretty quickly. The only that holding me back is the hefty price tag. Is anyone else out there also thinking about switching over to the Google Edition of the HTC One? Do you guys think its worth the switch and the hassle I would have to go through, i.e. selling the phone, limited amounts of the phone, delays, etc.? Thanks

What I will tell you is that you probably won't get the selling points that sold the HTC one.
Example: boomsound and blink feed.
HTC One X (Tegra 3)
ROM: Viper X 3.6.1
KERNEL: Viper X stock
CID: HTC_001
NETWORK: O2 UK
If you are willing to root your device I'm 99.9% sure you'll be able to flash the stock Android the nexus version comes with it. So to me there really is no reason to get rid the the ATT One and getting the nexus One

Yea, sticking with att. I guess I just liked the idea that I could get all the updates from Google quicker. But, with all the great developers, I'm sure there will be a rom or kernel for everything. haha.

Supposedly some people are speculating that if we get S-off (which we will) well be able to change out CID (and whatever else) so that we'll be able to receive those updates straight from Google. It just wouldn't be worth the hassle to sell your ATT One and then get the Nexus version.

Just remember that the 'nexus' HTC one and the galaxy S4 have very little of their own features due to the lack of HTC Sense of Samsung touchwiz.

they already confirmed boom sound will still be present. just no icon
Unless you don't want to be bothered with installing ROMS yourself when they come out, there's no reason to switch to the Google Phone. THEY ARE THE SAME DEVICE...
HTC may allow existing HTC One owners to replace Sense with stock Android.
http://bgr.com/2013/05/31/htc-one-stock-android-rom/
Lets simplify this, the ATT Variant is the exact same as the International Dev Variant, which is the exact same as the Google Edition....ATT has an unlocked BL check, ATT can flash international version roms check, the only thing that differs is the CID, if S-OFF and Super-CID get released, you can change the CID to match the Google Edition and boom you have your updates straight from google while having saved 400+ dollars...Also even if you cant change the CID, once and update from google gets pushed, usually within an hr a dev has a TWRP/CWM version available to flash on our device.
Why we keep getting stupid questions like the title of this thread? Its the same exact phone you're on XDA why wouldn't we have a flashable ROM?
Go right ahead and sell your phone and buy yourself the exact same phone.

I actually liked the way AT&T put their logo at the back instead of the front. And it's done in good taste.

I'm just glad they didn't put it on the front. I'd be so pissed if the HTC logo was an AT&T logo.
Verizon was retarded for doing that to the Galaxy Note II.

So to turn AT&T HTC One into Developer Edition or Nexus Edition and have working OTA (when it released later this month), all we need is
1. S-OFF the phone and change CID
3. Unlock bootloader via HTCDev.com
2. Flash to either Developer Edition or Nexus Edition rom?
AM I missing a step or two?

Just got one ONE today!

Well... as the title says, I just got my HTC One today! I love this phone so much...
Coming from an HTC One S, I've been using HTC phones exclusively since the T-Mobile Shadow like 8 years ago lol. Been on XDA for a while, excited to check out a new corner of the forums.
Welcome. Phone is awesome. I love it more with my iblason battery case.

But now, it was yesterday.
I have failed myself.

I also just found out yesterday about HTC killing off the One S. Didn't know about that when I sold mine, but now I don't regret it one bit! The commercials were totally right, this phone is everything my phone wasn't. I LOVED my One S, but the ONE is absolutely incredible.
Htc updated the international model to 4.2.2 but knowing HTC it wont be long this phone will quit having updates from htc and if it does it will be year later. I used like HTC when I had the Sensation but after owning the Amaze I became very disappointed with them. Lack of support and dev support were just or worst than LG. But I did played with the One and the S4 side by side and like both. Like there are stuff I like about the one just are there stuff I like about the s4. But I know that Samsung has become very loyal with updates and support. Although back when I had the sensation I hated samsung because of the way they treated vibrant owners

Honestly I am not too worried about getting timely updates. I like the phone the way it is. If I wanted to make sure I got updates quickly, I would have stuck with my Nexus 4 which is an inferior phone to the One.
Its not just about updates!!!!!! Its about proper drivers to new sense and android to make new roms!!! Otherwise CM roms will always be buggy.

Why did you choose One over S4? Just curious cause I just got back from my vacation and still undecided. Cam on S4 is better than the One.

Because I would disagree with that statement.

By better he means 13MP than 4MP with a bigger block for more light. I played with both phones today and the s4 beats it one on day light where you will be using the camera 90% at time. Also S4 low light feature is not bad.. But when HTC comes out with a new Sense version is sad but they will not put it on the one. just like they did with the rest of their devices.. The only reason I would get the one if for something different. I've been jumping back and forward with samsung and htc.. Now LG is another story, I wont be spending my money with them because they dont have good support.

Overall, the camera is better in the s4 than the One. I've played with two sets of demos of each phone and tested the cameras side byside inside the tmobile stores. My findings were, the One had problems focusing on targets that the s4 didn't, also the the One pictures are not as clear and detailed as the s4 in both distant and macro shots. The one most definitely has a slight advantage over the s4 regarding low light shooting, but when it comes to the average user everyday use, you'll be shooting in good to decent lighting and you'll want good sharp detailed photos from them!
I'm just sayin

Having always had Samsung phones and loving them till s3 with all of the bloat, I was really thrown off by touchwiz. It is too bulky and feels laggy, not to mention it makes interface plain ugly. To me, every app on htc one makes android more appealing, while s4 does opposite. I ended up rooting and putting 4.2.2 on my HTC one with elemental x kernel and ordroid Rom... My god... This thing flies, and battery easily outperforms any device I've seen.
