[Q] adb fastboot recovery doesn't work - HTC Droid DNA

Trying to get my phone into recovery mode. Droid DNA, root and s-off via Moonshine.
When I try to go into recover either through the bootloader or adb, the phone resets, goes dark for a bit, then shows a triangle with an exclamation point hovering over an image of the phone.
I can smother the phone and reboot, but I can't get into recovery.
Thanks in advance.

What recovery do you have on the phone, CWM ,TWRP? Or are you trying to get into the stock recovery?

Stock recovery.

I lifted the following from somewhere....
Shut down the device. Hold down Volume Down and hold down Power until you boot into the HBOOT menu. Select the RECOVERY option using the Volume buttons. Your phone will show the white HTC screen, then you'll see a black screen. It will take a while but it will say failed to mount sd four times. Wait until it turns into a red triangle with an exclamation point inside the triangle and from there, hold down the Volume Up and then press the Power button. You will see a small list, this is stock recovery

Ha! That worked perfectly. I need to start a different thread now to understand the error message.
Thanks!

What is going on?!

HTC Amaze. Tried toolkit but it will only boot to screen with circle of green arrows then red triangle with exclamation point. Try to boot to HBOOT and get nothing on the screen via toolkit or button combination. Tried factory reset by finally getting into recovery by just randomly pressing buttons on red triangle screen and factory reset throws many lines of errors where it cannot find /data /cache..... I can pull battery and boot into phone and use phone fine but I am trying to unlock bootloader, root, and flash a custom ROM. I have SCOURED these boards and the net. I have looked at screenshots of the bootloader and tried to see if the screen simply isnt showing the information and that is a possiblility since I pressed down once and power button and it went to the same recovery screen. How do I simply flash this whole thing back to stock? HBOOT, RECOVERY, ROM, EVERYTHING? Possible?
Help would be greatly appreciated!
wrong section only developer can post here

htcdev.com gives you instructions to unlock the bootloader. then you go to the htc amaze all-in-one kit and flash 4ext as a custom recovery. then you can flash any rom you want (assuming you already have ICS installed).
P.S. A quick google for "how to unlock htc amaze bootloader" directs you to htcdev.com for the very first hit. SCOUR HARDER lol.

With all due respect I have done all of the items using the toolkit involving unlocking the bootloader with token ID. Are you saying to not use toolkit and just use HTCdevs instructions instead?
I apologize for having this in the wrong section. I do not get replies in general or QA sections on this forum or the Note 2 forum.

You have to go to htcdev.com to get the token ID to use the unlocker utility in the htc amaze all-in-one program................. The instructions are there. Again, a quick google would have told you all this.
All that was completed. Any other advice?

okay i just read this whole thread and i'm completely lost as to what your trying to do.. first off if your boot loader is still locked and you want to flash back to stock you need to download the correct RUU file for your carrier... if you supply that information i can help you look for the right one.. then you rename that file to ph85img.zip and place it on the root of your SD CARD and boot into bootloader by removing your battery and placing it back in and "HOLDING" volume down and the power button until you are in the bootloader menu... after that its just following the instructions to flash back to stock
these are the instuctions to Unlock Bootloader > FLASH 4EXT > ROOT > Flash ROM
download hasoon's AiO toolkit and instll the htc usb drivers...
use the toolkit to unlock the bootloader if not go to htcdev.com and follow the VERY easy instuctions listed there... (you can skip the first few about installing android sdk)
after you unlock your boot loader proceed to flash your recovery (id suggest using 4EXT since your prob S-ON)
once you have a custom recovery you can proceed to flash the super SU file including in the aio toolkit
then make a "NANDROID" backup of your phone using 4EXT before you continue to flashing any roms
the rest is simple just download what roms you want and read the instructions to flashing the rom..

I have done all of this to the T back when I originally started this thread and now that I tried it again today. When my phone is booted to bootloader using the toolkit it is just a black screen. When I unlock the bootloader using the token I received from the HTC Dev site the toolkit says it was unlocked successfully. I then flashed custom recovery that it says was done correctly. Then when I boot into recovery it is goes to a picture of a phone with a green circle of arrows for 5 seconds then a phone with a red triangle and exclamation point. If I play around mashing buttons I can get into the stock recovery with blue letters and options to restore (doesnt work, many errors) and 4 other options. It is like my screen is messed up and will not show the bootloader/hboot screens. I have never been able to see the screen with the option for fastloader before which other people can see. Does this make any more sense? When I boot my phone it is a black screen until I see the bleedover from the soft keys, then I have to press the power button to turn screen off and back on for the screen to start working. After that it always works fine!?!?!?! What is wrong here?!? Its like I should just load the stock firmware and start all over but I cannot see the screen to select fastloader so it will recognize the PH#### file I have downloaded and loaded onto my SD Card. I am at a loss over here!
okay so your phone can boot to stock recovery but you cannot boot into the boot loader? via either adb or from pulling the battery and holding the buttons?

Pretty much, with the exception that the only way for me to get into the stock recovery is trying to flash a custom recovery and the phone going to the screen with the green arrow circle then the screen with the red triangle and exclamation and I start pressing random combinations of volume up and power.
I have never seen anything other than:
Green circle screen
Red triangle screen
Stock recovery with blue lettering after random buttons
Ok, this is quite confusing lol. Let's start from the beginning. Take your battery out, put it back in then power on the phone while holding down the volume-down button. This will get u into the botloader. On the top left there will be a few lines of writing, post back here what those lines say. Then we will see where you are and go from there...

Are you sure? Have you taken out your battery, put it back on, put the cover of the phone back on, press AND hold Volume Up and Power Button until you get a white screen that has some options and with the android mascots on the bottom of the screen (in other words the bootloader)? If no, then you need to boot into bootloader through hasoon2000's kit. Now what you do is you install the HTC Drivers through his kit (highlight install HTC Drivers at the top left box, first option in his kit), then after that, have your phone connected to your computer with a USB, then on your phone, go to Developer options in Settings then check USB Debugging. Once that's done, with your phone connected to your computer still, go back to the toolkit and in the second to left box you'll see reboot to bootloader. Click on that and then click on the button below the box that says "Do Command".

I tried to root my Nexus 4, and well I'm not too sure if it is rooted but after unlocking the bootloader and wiping the data, I got it to boot back up and then since then when I turn it off and try and go into recovery mode it has a dead android with a red triangle and says "No command." I can use the phone normally but it just wont let me get into recovery mode.

After hours of searching, I came across this little site that told me to hold the power button and tap the volume up button a few times on that screen. And it worked! So I'm here to share it with you. Hope this helps you too.

[Q] ONE Max stuck on "HTC ONE" screen...

I was doing a backup with TWRP and everything seemed to go just fine. Then after a reboot i unlocked the phone to notice that it was leaving the lock-screen icons on the bottom of the page. I still had access to my notification bar and could clear notifications. Figuring that there had just been a mistake in the boot process, I held the power button to restart the phone. Well it never brought up my power menu to restart. Also instead of making me wait ten seconds until it flashed its lights and restarted, it just restarted in like 3 seconds. Now my phone is stuck on the HTC ONE screen and will not respond to anything including hold the power button.
My phone is rooted an s-off. I know that I have not posted at all on here, but I have been rooting and know how at least the basics on adb shell. I just have never had a phone lock up to this point. If I can at least get to recovery, I should have 2 or 3 backups to run. I just don't want to have to wait for the phone battery to die just to hope I can get to recovery.

Are you saying volume up + power button does not restart your phone nor does any help? Check if your phone is detected in computer and if so you can issue and adb reboot command
also since there is no removable battery HTC added a reboot function press home vol down and power that should do the trick
The phone is not detected by a computer, nor will it charge. Vol down and power is not cutting it off. Right now I am waiting for the battery to die so I can hopefully boot into recovery and do a restore.
Vol up + Power was the key. I was thinking it was volume down. Thanks for all your help

Just wanted to point out I ran into this issue also (Stuck on white HTC boot screen) after wiping my ROM and Vol UP + Power did the trick for me also (and then Vol Down + Power to get back to the bootloader).
i need help, guys
so attempting to install a new rom, i must have dont something wrong because now restarting the phone will leave me on the htc logo loop and restart. i still have access to hboot and fastboot. but when attempting to load into twrp, it shows the team win logo for half a second and then restarts the phone. then i installed cwm and it does boot into it but whatever option i pick, install zip, wipe data, ANYTHING, restarts the phone.
i have no idea what to do. i tried installing a rom using adb sideload but it stops at around 80%, ive tried installing different versions of twrp and cwm and same thing. i think it is bricked. im using the verizon htc one max. the only option i see left is the ruu toolkit but ive only been able to find the sprint version and then it says that bootloader needs to be locked and i have not idea how to do that from hboot, fastboot, or cwm
attempting to install superuser also fails
if there's anyone here that can help, please, any suggestions will be appreciated. thanks =
Sounds like you're flashing the wrong TWRP.

May I suggest following these instructions?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51753483&postcount=129
If you're able to complete those instructions outlined in that post, this should set you up with the latest HBOOT, Radio and TWRP (Recovery) for the Verizon HTC One.
Make sure you read the post fully before you start, especially this part:
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip (Be sure it finishes saying 'successful', not 'please flush again immediately'. If it says the flush again, rerun the command)
If you succeed in getting that done, see if TWRP still causes the phone to reboot and get back to us.

[Q] Red Triangle after reboot in recovery

Hi Just got my new device HTC M8 from ATT. Just did unlock bootloader and want to root my phone but after reboot in recovery mode it stuck with red triangle and I'm not able even to switch it off. Is there any way to reboot it?

Stock Recovery Problem

I had TWRP recovery installed but wanted to go back to stock so I can install OTA updates.
Try as I might I can't get stock recovery installed!
I tried SkipSoft Android Toolkit, no joy.
Manually flashing via fastboot from the factory image of various builds, still no joy..
Finally I used the SkipSoft Toolkit to upgrade to Android 7.0 and again still no stock recovery!
Every time I try to boot to recovery I just get a black screen with the green robot in the centre, belly open and a red warning triangle, in 7.0 it says "no command" underneath.
Anyone have any ideas?...

Hi, darrenspence....
The red triangle with the "no command" message IS the stock recovery.
To access the recoveries menu, you need to press VOL UP and the POWER ON button simultaneously. This key press combo can sometimes be a bit tricky to get the exact timing right, so persevere.

Hi Ged, thanks for the advice.
I'm already familiar with the menu options in fastboot, guess I was expecting a more "spectacular" recovery screen, at least with a few simple options!
Have to wait for the next OTA update to see what happens..

...And those options are there... They're just hidden!
I wasn't referring to the menu options in fastboot... I was referring to the hidden menu options in the stock recovery.
So, whilst on the unspectacular red triangle and "no command" stock recovery screen, do the following...
** Press and hold the Power Button.
** Whilst holding it, press Volume Up once.
The screen will suddenly become a trifle more spectacular.
We're not talking fireworks and acrobats here . Just a few menu options and the version of the stock recovery currently installed, if confirmation is needed.
See attached photographs of the Stock Recovery (from Nougat) on my Nexus 9, showing the hidden menu options. (Apologies for the image quality).
Hope this helps.

Ged,
I bow to your superior knowledge!
Found the menu first time! Fairly unspectacular but at least the basic options are there.
I now await the next OTA to see if the device updates or no.. Still rooted via SuperSu systemless but feeling hopeful..
Cheers,
Darren
