Hello all a few days ago I accepted the MI1 update from Verizon then flashed Hyper. I wanted to try CM 10.2 so I downloaded goo manager from the market and installed TWRP recovery went to boot and got stuck in download mode. I was able to get out of that and reflash safestrap recovery but I have no idea how to successfully flash CM10.2. I'm on Me7 what do I use to update and be able to install TWRP and successfully flash a non stock rom on my phone?

You can't install CM on anything but a MDK phone. Once you upgrade to anything past that you can no longer bypass the bootloader and are stuck using ROMs which are supported by Safestrap. AOSP and CM ROMs are not compatible.
The list of ROMs which work with Safestrap is available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448726&highlight=safestrap
The bad news is that by flashing the MI1 update then flashing a nonstandard recovery, you've now probably tripped the Knox Warranty Void flag. That's not recoverable regardless of what you flash. (Try starting up in download mode - if the warranty void flag reads "0x1", you're toast.)

That's good news. Get yourself back running safestrap and pick one of the compatible ROMs.
Can someone please explain how to use safestrap for me? I have the 4.3 Google Edition ROM on my SD card and safestrap installed, but I can't create a ROM slot. It says "Free Space: 12 MB" and the "Create ROM Slot" button is dim. What do?

So after rooting and taking the android 4.3 update, my phone worked just fine with root. Then I tried to install a custom recovery (TWRP, using the ADB method) and ever since then, the recovery is just gone. Whenever I try to boot into it, the phone boots into download mode with an error message saying, "Could not do normal boot". After that, I tried installing TWRP from the Goo Manager app. Nothing changes. I also can't find a stock restore for 4.3 or a downgrade to 4.2. Is there any way for me to get back stock recovery or a custom recovery?

First, you should have done more research. You can't install a custom recovery on 4.3 (or MJ7). The only thing available is a "questionable" root method. No custom ROMs and no Safestrap.
Second, once an update has been applied, there is no way of going back.
You should check this thread out. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507217.
If that doesn't work, try this one. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507253.
Make sure you read ALL instructions first.
Good luck.

You can't install a custom recovery on 4.3/MJ7.
The only way to recover this is for you to flash the full-wipe MJ7 image that you'll find here in the development forum.
Then, consider reading before flashing. The I545 has a locked bootloader and can't support a custom recovery or custom kernels.

Thanks! Knowing this, I think I will just stick with root but no recovery...hopefully, something will change and allow me to unstick myself from this situation in the future.

This worked well when I had the same issue. I did lose root even with Survival Mode enabled on SuperSU, but otherwise no issues. Thank you.
I have a fresh ME7 recovery installed, rooted, and Safestrap 3.71 recovery installed. I have followed at instructions that I have found in the general forum, and still after creating a ROM slot in Safestrap, and installing both a Custom ROM and the ME7 modules, and even after a "successful" install, once the phone reboots, it goes to the little robot asking if I want to continue or go back to recovery and continues to loop back to the screen. I have been trying to install Jelly 'Beans' - Build 7 which I read in a thread was one of the few custom ROMS safestrap can use. Now I have installed the same Custom ROM this way before, but it has been several months and by trying to get back into the scene and upgrading to a newer ROM, I messed my phone up and cannot get it to load a custom ROM and I am stuck at the normal stock. Please help!!!!1!

I'm not too familiar with Safestrap, but I believe if you want to run a JB 4.3 based rom you'll need to first upgrade to 4.3 stock (odin to MK2), then root/safestrap and install the rom with the matching 4.3 base/modules.

New to this site so apologies for putting this in general.. I rooted my vzw s4 tired of touch wiz lag attempting to install cm. After I installed recovery tools and flashed the jfltevzw twrp file, my phone was stuck in Odin mode and I had to flash the stock ROM. My question is, did I make a mistake or is it not possible to flash custom recovery and install cyanogenmod on my device?

Did you forgot to unlock the bootloader?

Nc5 is locked down tight. The only custom recovery that you can flash on it is safestrap... and since the bootloader is locked you can only flash touchwiz roms. From previous experience, flashing cyonagenmod with safestrap on the s4 soft bricks it.

about a month ago I tried to change to a new ROM on my sgh-i717R model note which was already rooted running TWRP and a custom ROM that I had installed quite awhile ago. I did not realize that TWRP had to be updated to a newer version to use the 4.4 ROMS and the update failed and bricked my phone. I managed to fix it and put back a stock Rogers 2.3.6 ROM and it put back the original samsung recovery. The problem now besides being on an old ROM there is a lot of input lag using on screen keyboard, so I want to try a new custom ROM to see if it fixes things, but when I try to flash a new recovery with Odin (TWRP 2.8.0.0), Odin tells me that everything is good and it passes, but when I then reboot my device and go into recovery mode afterwards, it is the same samsung recovery mode with only the custom binary download counter incremented, but TWRP is nowhere to be found... I have tried with several versions of TWRP and it is the same thing.

yeah it was unrooted, but you cannot root without putting the custom recovery first.. Anyways I solved the problem, for some reason TWRP does not work (even though I tried all the versions specified for quincyatt and sgh-i717) but I was able to put on CWM no problems and re-root with superuser from there.

I know this thread is a couple weeks old but I thought I'd add something that I have found that might help if someone else has this problem.
The only way I was able to install the new version of TWRP was to install the old one first while rooting the phone then download the new versions .zip and update it via TWRP. I was able to get the new version working that way and now I am able to flash any rom I want with no issues.
Hope this helps others.
Hey there guys,
I have been up since 10pm trying to get this thing going and I have the phone running just no wi fi and no success at all with any recovery. I dug up and found out that I needed Safestrap because of my MDF version. However, this safestrap STILL does not enable recovery! I have used TWRP, CWM and PHILZ and I cant even get into recovery to do a ROM install!
If you guys can help me, I would appreciate it.
I have attached the picture for you guys to help me out!
Safestrap will not allow you install a custom recovery, Safestrap is your only option.
Custom recoveries such as TWRP, CWM, or Philz can only be installed on an MDK device. This is because an exploit called "Loki" is required to do so. This exploit only works on the MDK bootloader versions due to a loophole that was present. This loophole has been closed in all versions released after MDK.
