Put AppData onto your SD Card - Samsung Galaxy Mega

Hi guys, so i ran out of storage on my mega 6.3 and found out it was the googleplay music data, so i just looked for a solution and ran over this:
watch?v=lYFw9bEAzM8
I am not allowed to put a link it in it, just put youtube . com infront of this
It's really easy and may help to put huge appdata like games and music pinned with google play on your SD Card. :good:
With a 64GB SD-Card i can install any game and put any data onto my phone now
(Sry for my english, I am from austria)
Hopefully I helped a little bit

Looks good but ill wait for the update maybe they put it in there to move apps to ext sd.

I don't have 9205 but have 9152 mega 5.8. By default the latest 4.2.2 already has transfer app to sd. Then to transfer game data I use gl to sd. Of course root is required. Folder mount also works but I have not tried it.

I also use folder mount but there is also an thread here that switches your internal and external sd.
Only problem is that after root i can not do OTA updates anymore.
But i think kies does work.

No, the CSC is only to help Samsung it doesn't do us any good. Keep away from XSA though as we (Aussie) have the bottom dock locked.

The question is app DATA you mean the latest fw can move the game data such as the obb folder? And without root?

I don't know about without root, my Rom has root as well but the official one should be the same.
I am not sure about the data, would that not move with the app? If you run from SD would it not store it on SD? I am not a gamer so I don't know but you could try it, the Rom is an update anyway.

Ok so you have not tried it with game or any app data separate from the app. If the app data is on aseparate folder like "obb" folderthen itwill not move. This is also true with music files and backup files of titanium backup for example.
Gl to sd is the app to use if the app data is separate from the app itself. But the TS does not want to root so I think there is no way yet. Previously on 4.1.2 there was external to internal app but does not work anymore on 4.2.2.

I do know Titanium is movable, you set the place to do backups in the settings.

Anyway there is another thread stating what I already said here- that the MJ2 does not move the obb folder/data only the app.

Surely where the app puts its data is down to the app not the rom?

Previously I used a phone wherein application installation can be installed on the externalsd by selection or by default. So a rom can be programmed to do so. I don't know how difficult will that be to code on the mega and similar phonesbecause of the emulated internal memory though.

Clock Work Mod folder on GS3??

Hi guys
Apologies if this is in the incorrect section or if somebody has posted before, I have searched but can't seem to find anything. I have a Clock Work Mod folder which appears to be empty on my factory standard GS3... Any ideas how this got there??
Thanks for any info on this...
The folder refers to the recovery that you must have installed when rooting.
It's a folder for any system backups you make using recovery

rooting my phone????

Now then guys... i am thinking about rooting my phone to put jelly bean on my samsung galaxy s2 .... i was just wondering views on which is the best one to go for ( LINKS PLEASE ) and is it easy to do you know the usual questions you will have heard them before lol IM A NEWBIE !!!
Cheers People
Download Siyah 3.5.2.
http://www.gokhanmoral.com/gm/2012/07/29/siyahkernel-s2-v3-5/
Tar for Odin.
Then use this guide.
http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-s2-i9100-root-android-4-0-3-ics-xwlpd-88120/
Nevermind it says Cf-root. I flashed my Siyah kernel that way.
After that, flash any rom you want in recovery. Just do a Nandroid backup in recovery and backup apps with Titanium backup from Market!!!
Sent from my Galaxy S2 GT i9100
Don't restore apps after flashing newer ROM, cause your phone will bootloop.
Better create text file and write names of installed apps.
Im not sure why everyone is worried about backing up there apps ive flashed about a 100 roms and never had to back them up cause if u go to the play store under my apps there always there
Infact there are apps there id forgotten about just pick which ones u want and re install .some roms auto instal them for u .make sure you have a google acc obviously!

What type of data? Music and photos are saved to the external SD card for me, and as for game save data, I believe that is externally backed up as well.

Only if the application is on the external memory card then it's backed up there. Otherwise they'll loose the data if that's not the case.

If you restore from google play, you loose all your app settings and you will have to reconfigure each app.
Also, Google Play will not show apps installed offline (apk)
Restoring app data with third party app like titanium backup is safe if app is compatible with the target rom

And when I get bored of a rom I just restore my nand backup of something previous.

in order to install a perticular custom rom , all u have to do is to follow the install instruction's of the same in there OP. and the same applies to all other roms also.
since installation instruction do vary from one custom rom to another
Jasper, you are better to read up on things so you are familiar with the processes of like rooting/kernels/roms/cwm/Odin/troubleshooting.
I understand reading 1000s of posts is tedious, but you could end up with a non working phone.

Storage location of OTA updates?

Hi, does anyone know where the OTA firmware updates are kept on the Galaxy S3?
I had a generic ROM on my phone which had an update which got downloaded. I did install it because the ROM wasn't the one I was after.
After finding the correct ROM and flashing it I see the downloaded update is still waiting to be installed from the previous ROM...
I know I could just wipe my phone but I'd rather not lose all my data at the moment.
This file must be stored somewhere but I can't seem to find it...
Any help would be appreciated

Yeah it's root/cache/fota
But obviously you have to be Rooted to see it.
Thanks for the replies... I got root access back and installed Root Browser, found that fota location and it seems to be empty... see attached pic...
Any other ideas? Perhaps I need to reset a file that says there's an update downloaded and ready to install..?

They can download, the only question is weather they can install it or not. As for the OP, give the explorer superuser permissions. That should fix your prob.
Hi
I have a rooted phone ( huawei model ) ....downloaded new upgrade package via OTA ( 50MB only ) ...did not confirmed yet to "flash" it but

Slim bean SIM issue

I posted a topic yesterday that I'll delete when I get home, but I've discovered my problem.
I'm funning the latest slim bean update, freshly done yesterday. But it won't work with my sim. When I go to choose a network, it just tells me that an error has occurred.
My vibrant is for T-Mobile and unlocked. I use an AT&T sim card.

I tried that, but I would not work for me. I had to revert to Beta 1 again. Am I missing a step?
1. Copy EFS folder from root to SD card
2. Flash Beta 2 and lose IMEI
3. Copy EFS backup from SD card to root
4. Reboot

Assuming you mean clicking the command to fix permissions in recovery, I tried that. Is there a better way to do it?
Ive figured it out.
Slimbean itself as a ROM has a problem transfering the IMEI.
To solve it you can copy the unlocked IMEI and put it in the root efs, blah blah.
But I just put on the Cyanogen ROM instead, and it works like a charm. Nevertheless that Ive found that I prefer Cyanogen.
Good luck to anyone with the same issue. ^^
... thanks?

Fix permission in your root file app. For just the imei folder permission is rwxrwx---, efs folder is rwxr-xr-x.

[TIPS][Tricks] How to move some system Apps to SD Card

I think some of the system apps (like Calculator, Music Player, Camera, etc.) by following steps:-
1. Install ROM Toolbox Pro (Yes, its paid version)
2. Install Link2SD and create second partition on your SD Card (ext2) and reboot your device.
3. Open ROM Toolbox Pro and go to App Manager and Select a system app (!!!!DO NOT SELECT CORE SYSTEM APPS!!!!!) like Calculator. Go to Advanced Tab and select "Convert to User App". Wait for a while. After a minute or two, if nothing appears to be happening in status, just click cancel and app will be converted.
4. Now Open Link2SD. Select Filter>User Apps. Then Select your converted app (Calculator in This case) and select "Move to SD".
5. Its Done........

use a custom ROM!
Most of the custom roms allow this from settings app directly.
No Need
I THink that this work will be useless because the new app which you install can directly be moved to sd card and our Phone is Still Not In The condition that internal apps should be shifted to external SD.....

After a few experiments and a couple of flashing ahead that apps (not core) from custom ROM are safe to move.... And now can single handly done by using new version of link2sd.......
