Okay so I was on stock MJ4 and I rooted my device with cf auto root via Odin and it was successful. Now the only thing I need left to do is install twrp recovery but I went to the goomanager app and it said no recovery was available so can someone point me in the direction of the correct Tar file I can download and what Odin version I need to flash Twrp. Thank you

You can grab it from their website: http://teamw.in/project/twrp2
Use the button in the upper right to "Get TWRP for your device" and your off and running.
Do I download the latest tar or the image file? And after download has finished do I extract the file ?
Also does it matter what Odin version I use to flash ?

I believe you'll have to use the tar version. Odin also supports tar.md5 but dont' see that option. I just used the .tar one myself. As far as which Odin...I used the one that came with CF-Auto root when I downloaded it.

Also...I think I remember some saying that they had trouble and that after flashing, it would still go into stock recovery. To prevent that...if it would even happen...after flashing, and as soon as you hear the sound on your PC that your phone is disconnecting and rebooting...press and hold power+vol. up+home to force TWRP to boot.
Thanks for the help. I'm going to try this right now :good:
Everything worked like a charm :good: thanks for sending me in the right direction man

No problem, glad I could help!
Still flipped knox for me.
I installed TWRP 2.6.3.7 using Odin 3.09 and successfully created a backup but any other zip file or rom I try to load results in a "Failed"
Stating Zip signature verification failed. If I uncheck zip file signature verification then I get a stuck screen at the Sprint Logo. Any help???

So, if I understand the directions... Since I have already put TWRP and rooted my phone I should follow steps 2-7 and then I can skip step 8 and go to step 9, right? Am I then all set to add other ROMS or mods using TWRP? Does it matter if I do Odex or Deodexed?
Thanks,

If you want to upgrade to MJ4 you'll need to ODIN back to MI5 stock, take the OTA Update and then ROOT and TWRP again.
From @JimHuff
Nandroid backup
Removed SD Card
Wiped Everything (except Internal)
Odin’d JB’s MI5 Tar
Received OTA (Software Update started immediately, automagically)
Odin’d CF-Auto-Root
Odin’d TWRP 2.6.3.7
Restored Nandroid
If you're Rooted and TWRP'd then you're all set to flash a ROM. Always make backups before changing anything, be cautious.
WHAT IS AN ODEX FILE?
In Android file system, applications come in packages with the extension .apk. These application packages, or APKs contain certain .odex files whose supposed function is to save space. These ‘odex’ files are actually collections of parts of an application that are optimized before booting. Doing so speeds up the boot process, as it preloads part of an application. On the other hand, it also makes hacking those applications difficult because a part of the coding has already been extracted to another location before execution.
THEN COMES DEODEX
Deodexing is basically repackaging of these APKs in a certain way, such that they are reassembled into classes.dex files. By doing that, all pieces of an application package are put together back in one place, thus eliminating the worry of a modified APK conflicting with some separate odexed parts.
In summary, Deodexed ROMs (or APKs) have all their application packages put back together in one place, allowing for easy modification such as theming. Since no pieces of code are coming from any external location, custom ROMs or APKs are always deodexed to ensure integrity.
Hope that information helps you with your decision.

Followed all the steps. But during ODIN of JB’s MI5 Tar I'm getting a FAIL.
Related
I was trying to flash an updated version of the ROM i had, but a verizon message came up, essentially telling me my bootloader was still locked. I looked it up, and the fix is supposedly flashing it back to stock, which I tried, but it has no internet connection (wifi or service) and it loaded the ROM i had been trying to install earlier.
I double checked my model number, to see if that did anything, and it's changed from what it was when I flashed the first ROM, so i tried flashing the firmware for that model, but Odin just gives me a fail message for that, so i can get my ROM to run, but my internet is borked, and I can't get it back to stock to see if that fixes it.
Because I can't get internet access it's screwing up a lot of my attempts to fix it, and my computer refuses to read it, so I can't do anything from that end.
Also, while my WiFi refuses to turn on (switch pops back to grey after trying to turn it on) my service bars act like they're receiving, changing up and down, but they're greyed out and the carrier name is 'Empty'.

Original Build: if you mean what I was using before flash, I can't find the link to it, it was one of the first stock android ROMs for the GS4. If you mean prior to that, it was the standard Samsung TouchWiz the GS4 comes with.
I was trying to flash the ROM found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2340783
I flashed it using TWRP > wipe data/cache, factory reset > install zip > wipe dalvik cache > boot. When that didn't seem to work, I tried flashing stock using Odin, as I can't get the zips onto my phone now.

I mean the last official build the phone was on before you started flashing. (MDK, ME7, MI1, MJ7 or MK2)
Did you ever take any OTA's?
When you say TWRP, do you mean TWRP with Safestrap or just TWRP?

It has a very nice set of instructions that the first one I linked you to doesn't.
That links you to the no wipe MDK tar file. You should be OK to use that one.
Very important that you use the MDK file and not one of the others as those will lock your phone back up and no more custom recovery for you.

If you run into problems with the no wipe tar files in the second link go and download the mdk tar file from

And try that.

I got my phone back to stock, made sure my internet was working, rooted it, installed TWRP, and everything worked fine, but I have a question that might be a bit out of the bounds of this post. When I tried to use TWRP to flash stock android onto it I get the message "Verizon has detected unauthorized software [etc]". This is linked to the bootloader, if I recall correctly, but I can't find some really good help with it.
Further help would appreciated, but what you've done already has helped me far more than I had hoped when I posted, so thank you, oh so much.

this is what worked for me.
I too took kies update . Couldn't root ,went back to ne6 rooted again with towel root, then iPC odin flashed the nf6 modem after that i PC odin flashed the nf6 firmware. I did not see the kernel in beanstowns stock official thread. So i downloaded the full tar. Moved it to my sdcard. Flashed only kernel , recovery and system WITH MOBILE ODIN PRO. Since i already had installed modem and firmware seperately
. Mobile odin pro worked like a charm. Rooted knox oxo not tripped!
MOBILE ODIN PRO WILL GIVE A RED WARNING SAYING IT WILL TRIP KNOX . BUT IT DID NOT TRIP IT THIS TIME.
SAME THING HAPPENED WITH THE NOTE 3.
update, it was brought to my attention by 1iwilly that mobile odin pro after installation causes the device to have a custom status. i uninstalled it and my phone said official but after a while i noticed that somehow supersu had disappeared . some of my apps antutu and cpuz said i had root access but the root checker apps said i was not rooted. i tried towel root again on mf6 no go. i was not able to install supersu from the play market or any of the apks from chainfire. the error was that it was incompatible and i think it may have had something to do with installing mobile odin pro as a system app and later deleting it.
luckily a factory reset made supersu come back and i then updated it.i was back to official status . i again installed mobile odin pro this time from the market. im not sure but i suspect that whether it is a system app or not it will say custom status if it is installed., the important thing is knox does not get tripped regardless/. and if need be flashing an unrooted full tar from pc odin or even factory reset will make status official again. (if needed for warranty} as far as ota updates custom status would prevent them but i dont mind that as ota probably would fail anyway and if it did suceed it would surely unroot. so i decided custom status is worth keeping my root apps.
BOTTOM LINE
if you prefer to have official ststus do not inject mobile odin while flashing only inject supersu and tick everoot. if you end up with root issues a factory reset may fix them as it did for me

hey ashraf sharif can you add this to your op this is from geohot=every android phone with a kernel date up to june 3=the key word up to june 3
so to me this mean that when we get another update we might have to re flash to n6 then do the same steps as we did with nf6. that's just my 2cents way of thinking i could be wrong but time will tell

well i would load the full tar under open file. Then clear modem and modem 2 as you already have them and do not need to replace those files. This will leave you with kernel. Recovery, and system. Tick enable everoot . Inject supersu. Inject mobile odin and wipe dalvick cache then flash
thanks will try that like a dumb ass i put the whole zip file on sd card instead of unzipping it then putting the tar file on card.

thanks for pointing out the custom status.that was not there last time i looked.mobile odin installs itself as a system app. but like you said after uninstalling it system status is back to official.many root apps do that. also be careful if/when uninstalling system apps. i remember on my s3 i uninstalled chat on and my status turned custom. reinstalling and even factory resetting didnt work because it reinstalled as a regular user app. only re flashing firmware fixed that. btw mobile odin pro does not always root properly. sometimes it cant install supersu. dont forget to get busybox without it most root apps dont work

Any links to firmware and modems files only?

Speaking to the T-Mobile rep this morning the update evidently fixes a bunch of issues using SMS and MMS via the WiFi calling feature. My phone has issues with some people not being able to send SMS to me, and sometimes mine don't get sent. Only sometimes....odd.
Being a noob... is there a way to extract the files necessary to just update the firmware, without losing root and custom ROM?

I got tired of waiting for the bootloader file so what I did was install the full tar with pc odin .this will break root , to regain root I flashed the ne6 kernal , rooted with towelroot and then flashed the nk2 kernel. the kernel files and towelroot link can be found in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s5/general/how-to-root-s5-firmware-knox-0x0-t2909352

Thanks.. I actually installed via Mobil Odin to update to NK2. Then I attempted to updated the Bootloader to NK2 from the link above. However, it doesn't want to stick. It stays on NH5. I pulled the battery. I tried the AP, BL, and CP slots and nothing. Do I need to make sure the box for "Phone Bootloader update" is checked?

I think its a problem with the bootloader file. it should consist of a bunch of files, not just a boot.img file. looking at previous bootloader zip i have shows this.

Hey guys, my Boot.Img is not the bootloader that you are looking for. It is just the boot.img which is the kernel. That is why i created my tut on how to root when you have the latest complete firmware on your phone. Mobile odin will not flash certain files. Go to my thread and follow the steps and you will have all the files installed on to your phone and have root..
I flashed the full update via mobile odin which flashes everything but the bootloader. I've tried flashing yur boot file in pc odin like you said but it never sticks. I've done it twice.

please reread my other thread above yours about my boot.img is not the bootloader.tar that you are trying to install. It is just Boot.img which is only the kernel.
You will have to do either 1 of 2 things,
1- pull the files from the full stock nk2 and create your own bootloader.tar.md5 file
or
2- flash the full nk2 with PC ODIN 3.09 on your computer and then use my method to achieve root.
Ok, is there an easy way to make a boatloader tar?

yeah have a computer with linux and pull the files and create a folder and then use linux command lines to zip- pack- and create a tar.md5.
there might be other ways to do this, Search the forums and internet on exact process,
Okay my problem was that I didn't realize your tutorial was if you installed via pc Odin. Followed your directions and I'm good now. Only thing is when I opened up supersu it crashed, rebooted and then it worked however I never got the question on disabling know. Is there a way to check that it's still disabled?

have you installed a custom recovery or custom rom on your phone, if you have you might have all ready tripped knox and that is prolly why you did not get the prompt for disabling knox.

Update: After being rooted with CF-Auto-Root and installed philz_touch_6.48.4, and MJ4 modem (due to domestic sim unlock), this ROM still has working fm radio(with Nextradio)/screen mirroring/video camera, . I'll assume you're on a custom recovery... Follow this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
Scroll down to "CWM / TWRP / Mobile ODIN installable ZIP" and grab the link in there. Flash in recovery and you should be good to go.

You can ODIN the full stock .tar and then follow up with TWRP and flash your ROM after that.
I just did this process to upgrade from NH7 and then re-flashed Tema's CM12.
Cf auto root will root it
Anyone got a link to Cf auto root for sm900p? I get bandwidth exceeded when I download from chainfire
No issues rooting and installing TWRP on NK4 for me. My steps were as follows:
1. Downloaded the official N900PVPUDNK4_N900PSPTDNK4_SPR from the links in the OP.
2. Backed up my rooted NH7 (via Titanium Backup and TWRP) just in case.
3. Wiped everything via TWRP recovery.
4. Odin (v3.09) NK4 using the AP slot and let the phone reboot.
4b. Probably overkill but I then did a factory wipe via stock recovery and rebooted.
5. Odin TWRP 2.8.1.0 and rebooted into recovery.
6. Installed Chainfire's SuperSU-2.40.zip via TWRP recovery and rebooted the phone.
7. Immediately got rid of all the bloat using Titanium Backup!
So far I haven't run into any issues.
Did you ever get it to work?

My software and baseband are both nk4.
I went full stock nh7 and updated ota.
When I updated to nh7 (when it was new), I used kies... It only updated one and caused me problems. I had to flash both via odin to fix back then.
Ya looks like my baseband never took I'll have to fix at a later point. Phones working fine though. It's weird.

ya your right. i forgot about that. i did a battery pull last time. well since my baseband is still nh7 . ill be reflashing nh7 tar. then back up to nk4 in about a hr when off work.
Here's the New OK4 full "Stock" tar for sprint GS5 (not sure about the sport version). This is only usable in odin.
Flash at your own risk.
Unzip file and place the MD5 file in the ap slot of Odin. uncheck auto reboot and uncheck reset time
then press start. enjoy

the reason for no auto rebooting is in case you want to flash twrp img.zip to root it be fore it boots the first time. its not mandatory. but if your rooting its sure easier
CF-Auto-Root some how reverted back to AO6.
Yeah im showing android version 5.0 after flash in odin and twrp and supersu.
so is this not working,.. or causing people issues? My daughter's stock s5 got the update ota.. but because I'm rooted I am thinking this is the only way. Currently I'm on OG1

its still 5.0 but its version ok4. if you want stock completely. dont uncheck auto reboot.
the auto reboot is unchecked so you can restart in download mode and flash either cf/auto root (if that works havent tried it) or twrp.img.tar
to gain root. in fact some people are saying if your already rooted when you first reboot, reboot into recovery and twrp will ask if you want root and root the rom itself.
