Looking to get a new phone to replace my DNA - HTC Droid DNA

I'm on Verizon. What are the best phones besides the S4 and HTC One? But those are old now. Any rumors on upcoming phones?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk

I wouldnt say they are old. They are still two of the best devices out right now for Verizon. I switched from the DNA to the One and couldnt be happier. The note 3 just came out but that's Samsung and I'm personally not a fan of them so I never really recommend Samsung anything except for TVs

Completely forgot about the G2. I haven't played with it yet so I cant form an opinion. However I personally am not a fan of the button placement.

I heard a little somethin somethin about an HTC M8

I have been waiting for the HTC One Max that should be releasing on Verizon. I am due for an upgrade in February though so by then something else may be right around the corner. I would say though if you like HTC wait for the One Max otherwise you could always get the LG G2 and root it and I am sure it won't be long until KitKat is out for it since the Nexus 5 is based on the G2.

O: nice, I have enough looking at phones too, but nothing really excites me. Hopefully it will come to Verizon.

only a few good phones go to vzw the htc one, s4, lg g2, and the dna dont be surprized if vzw misses out

If I was getting a new VZ phone, the only ones on my list would be Droid Maxx or the G2. The G2 I'd be planning to mod and install a new rom right away. Droid Maxx I'd probably just root to add some new capabilities, but leave the rom alone.
To me, HTC One is out for only having 2 buttons. The S4 is out for having a center physical button. I don't love the G2's back buttons, but I suppose I'd get used to it. I don't love that the Maxx has capacitive buttons, but it's better than the One or S4's offerings in my opinion.

Depends on what you do with your DNA.
If you take a lot of photos you might not be happy with anything 'ultrapixel' pixel, and definitely wont be happy with the G2.
If you don't the the G2 is excellent.

I've owned every HTC android device on Sprint since the Hero and I must say, the EVO 4G was the only great experience I've had. I like to hack my phone, custom ROMs, theming, the whole nine yards. The EVO 4G was the best phone I've ever owned but I really can't say one way or another if I'll buy another HTC again as it all depends on what they offer.
I like how Samsung has unified the GS3 and may end up with a GS4 next year but the EVO line is inconsistent and being carrier exclusive can limit the developer following and tends to easily be forgotten. I'm hoping HTC makes one flagship phone for all carriers (think One X on every carrier with a black/red model called "EVO" for Sprint). That way the phones are the same not matter how you look at it... just my two cents.
Hope that makes sense.. really tired on third shift.
They need to make a EVO line accros all carry and make that there flagship phone.. And it needs to be a cutting edge device when they release it. Samsung got it right the g3. I am a fan of HTC but they just don't seem to get it anymore. Yea I know you guys will want the EVO line to stay sprint exclusive but we get screwed. The g3 bei g across all carries they get all the cool accessories and development.

Samsung is a good company and make awesome devices but they a sorta like apple when apple fan thanks about android they thank about g3 and when when we thank about them we thank about iPhone there are so many android phones out there and what I mean about I want some thing that no one has is a good powerful device that no one want like the evo lte mostly every one in my small town has a g2 g3 or a iPhone so I want some different
sprint
Sprint has a lot of android phone but no really big one with development mostly the ones with development are evo late g3 sorta note 2 g2 and the nexus and 4/5 of those devices are Samsung so if the m7 comes out on sprint I might get and put caynogmod on so I like to thank I have a nexus
Both htc and Samsung are making good phones. Everyone has their preference. I recently switched to the gs3 from the evo lte because I wanted something different. I like both phones though.
Having said that, now I need to be a grammar nazi, please punctuate. It's difficult to read your posts.

OK man. I love how the g3 looks but so many people have it. Nexus 4 looks awesome but you can't find it in stores. I'm the one that like to see the phone first before I get it. G3 just has so many users. If the rumoured HTC m7 comes out on sprint I might get but I get the rumoured g4 when it comes out. But the g4 will have a lot out users I am a picky person to my phones
Yea, I wouldn't buy a phone if I couldn't try it out in person either. I'm excited to see what htc has in store for its next release. After using the gs3, it will be a tough decision between the gs4 and the next htc phone.
yeah
I'm just tired of HTC sence so I might just get a Samsung but I love HTC build hardware
I've been wanting to go Samsung. But i cant stand the cheap light feel of their phones and i hate AMOLED.

I will most likely stick with HTC. I do wish they pushed our devices like the competition does for theirs though. Seems like our options get limited by the company's neglect.

Coming to the Droid DNA!!!

Well, after a long debate with myself, and many comparisons I've decided to take the plunge back into the HTC world.. I chose the DNA instead of waiting for the M7/One or whatever it is because I just can't use this iPhone 4 anymore... I hope I made the right choice, and thanks to Wirefly.com I was able to get a SWEET deal.. I see Justin is dev'ing for the DNA and that's a plus for me for sure!!!!!!

I think you've made a good choice. I personally like the DNA better than the M7 in terms of overall design and aesthetics. Plus I like my 5" screen - a 4.7" just feels small to me now. The only reason I would've been upset would be if the M7 had the newer series of Qualcomm's processors, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Anyway, congrats on the DNA!

If you have any questions about stuff you're wondering about with the switch to the DNA feel free to send me a PM. I realize you probably know your way around quite well but just in case, I figured I would offer.
One thing that I help people with the most, is actually contacts. If you don't already have all your contacts in a gmail account, go ahead and import them to gmail from wherever they are.
Welcome to the DNA, you won't regret the swap. Even though my girlfriend knows her way around roms and rooting, kernels, and decompiling apk's, her daily driver is an iPhone. I was worried about switching her to the Bolt or Rezound as her daily driver because I didn't want to leave a bad first impression. The DNA is the opposite, as soon as info on the M7 is released she will be switched to the DNA or M7 if its available in a CDMA version, because the build quality and performance are to the highest standards.

Anyone else tempted to jump ship to the HTC One?

Just curious on what other LGOG users think of the HTC One announced today? I had the international HTC One X and really liked the phone, the camera was leaps and bounds better than the one on the LGOG. The LGOG camera, IMHO, is just ok.
The reason I left the One X for the LGOG was because AT&T lit up LTE in my area just as the LGOG was launched. I didn't hear great things about the One X+ so I went for the LGOG.

Me too. At least the development was fantastic though.
Nope. I came from the One X (AT&T variant) and while the camera was top notch, the locked bootloader, 2.20 root fiasco and a pretty locked down device isn't worth it. It was also my first HTC device and after experiencing Sense firsthand they can take that crap and shove it. It kills the device and is about as laggy and bad as Motoblur in it's heyday.
Now having vented about it I will say this, the device is still within the family AND that dev community here on XDA is topnotch and first rate. Very helpful to noobs and very, very good at getting the device blazing fast and customized.
HTC is just not for me as far as manufacturers go and I won't ever be owning another one unless it's free.
Man what are we going to buy? I got a moto one time. Everybody swore they would not buy another. So I got a sammy. Burned again. So i thought ok its because I'm not buying flagships. So I got the vivid practically on release day. Worst decision ever. Now I got this phone. Which I happen to love. U know every phone I own eventually got Aosp. I think it just does not happen fast enough for some people.
Sent from my LG-E970 using Tapatalk 2
Not at all. HTC makes good devices, but there's no guarantee that you will be able to unlock the bootloader, for OS upgrades (I never count on AT&T providing support for the devices that they sell). In addition, the LGOG more than meets my needs for the foreseeable future. Why spend money if I don't see it as a meaningful upgrade.

Bah. If you don't mind switching carriers it is easy to break the contract, sell the old phone for most /all of the ETF. So getting new phones isn't really that hard financially - If you are willing to change carriers.

This is what I do, except I don't always switch between VZW and AT&T. Most of the time I can buy a phone outright keep it for 6 months sell it and buy a new one. It's amazing the deals you can get on eBay and Craigslist. If you do it right, you are out of pocket $200 to $300 a year which is what everyone pays to get a phone on a 2 year contract.
Posssibly. It seems a neat phone, but I will wait for the reviews. I'm getting more and more hiccups and glitches in my OG, and I believe at least 2 are hardware. I hate HTC, but I like metal phones and stereo sound. We'll see.

I came from HTC evo 3d , rooting , unlocking were fairly easy, it was getting the s-off that was a pain! I don't know if anyone had the "wire trick" fun lol. But after all that I had 4.2 cm10 and man that device screamed!
Now , I have never owned a lg but besides the slow go on development, which is just because the phone is so new and waiting for true jb release to att . I love this phone! Took me a while to get over my flashaholic nature , and with aosp to come out any day I'm excited!
The camera is sketchy, but if your trying to take professional photos, get a real camera in my opinion. Otherwise, I don't think I'll ever look back at HTC ,
Its not about what you know , but who you know.

I want to see how many are interested in this phone coming from a non-LG background. I come from a Samsung and HTC background.
Please vote everyone. Thanks.
Thinking about it, to replace my Galaxy Nexus. But since Ive never touched an LG smartphone Im not sure what (if?) the status of "third party" development would be like. Ive also never seen their overlays over Android so Im not sure what Ill be in for.
But, Snapdragon 800 makes up for some of that

I'm picking up the LG. I've had all HTC 's and Samsung's. I'd have the Optimus G PRO for a couple months and loved it. It was a tremendous phone. IMO. I just hope the development community come through. I think with it being on all carriers it will.

Will be my first LG since the Dare - if that counts. I usually sport a Samsung or Apple but am currently running a Lumia 928. WP8 has a long ways to go! Looking forward to the G2!
I've had every HTC Android that Sprint carried, but switched to the Nexus 4 in February, so the G2 won't be my first LG device, but it will be my first LG device with LG software on it. I'm looking forward to this phone.
Just pre-ordered it, I have had my HTC Amaze 4G for a bit now and the LG G2 will be a huge leap, in terms of specs! lol This will be my first LG experience! Hope for the best!
I've used the Charge, GNex, Rezound, Maxx, DNA, S3, Note 2, Maxx HD, and the S4. This will be my first LG. I'm not too worried about the bootloader being locked down. The navigation keys are movable and most of the other things I'll want to change can be done just by being rooted,

If possible open a new thread for AT&T phones(just a suggestion). Just so all AT&T experiences fall in one place. Developers can figure out the missing features too.
I am going to switch from my note 2. I really love my note 2 but the size after a year is starting to get to me a bit. 5 inch screens look funny to me because of them being narrow and tall and I love the bigger screen in the small form factor. Great specs and great size. I will miss my note, but the lag, crappy gps, terrible amoled screen, and the slightly too big size are starting to turn me off.

Post DNA Plans?

If you're like me, you're ready for a new phone every year around this time. I was hoping to see a DNA2/Butterfly2 from HTC, but that doesn't look like its going to happen. Alternatives are few unless you want to go Max-sized with the HTC One Max, but at 6", that's just too darn big. I thought the Note series was too big, but the Max has even topped that.
Anyway, for those of you looking to move past the DNA (don't get me wrong - it is still a GREAT phone, especially running Viper 2.0!), what are you thinking?
Maxing out with the One Max? :cyclops:
Settling for Samsung?
Trying to Live Good with LG G2?
Or just holding out until something better comes along?
I voted for the One max in the poll above, but honestly I might be turned away by the huge size. I already have trouble typing one-handed on my DNA sometimes, but the expandable memory and huge battery would be a nice upgrade for sure.
If the size puts me off, I'll probably just wait for whatever follows up the HTC One. I'm grandfathered into unlimited data anyway, so I'll likely be buying whatever my next phone will be either at full retail or from eBay/Craigslist/Swappa.
I was really looking forward to the One Max. I wouldn't mind the bigger size because of the idea of using a bluetooth mouse and keyboard on remote desktop. However, now that the specs are officially released by HTC, there's no way I'm settling for the Snapdragon 600. Considering other recently released devices are using the Snapdragon 800, like the Note3, HTC is making a huge mistake with the slower processor. I'd like to stay with HTC, but I'm not settling for a 600. I'm starting to lean towards a Note3 but I'll probably wait for the price to come down a bit.

Post DNA plans?
The DNA was my first phone on Verizon when it launched. I'm not due for an upgrade until late 2014. If I had to choose a device from the current crop, i'd pick the Moto X or the G2. But I'll wait until 2014 to make a real decision, but I would like to stick with HTC if possible. And by possible I mean if HTC has a device on Verizon with a similar screen size but higher ppi, much larger battery, more storage and the latest version of Android.
But that's what everybody wants right?
I would get the HTC One Max as soon as I could :upgrade or no..... I'd buy it the day it was available.
The new size is perfect for what I want in a phone.
But because I am into esthetics and the feel of a phone: that "rubberized" back cover, and I don't think I will ever see that style again, I'll keep the DNA.
I never cover my phone with a case!

I'm sticking with the DNA for now.
One Max = too big for my personal taste
N5 = wont be on Verizon, and due to company rules, I dont have (or really want) another choice of carrier
G2 = nice... but not a big enough upgrade/difference for me to pull the trigger
Its interesting because with CM 10.2, I really feel like my phone is running so well that for the first time in a long time, I'm not itching to upgrade. Very weird feeling. But I think its due to the fact that there isnt a single app/game that I use which has problems or lag on the DNA.
Truly a supreme phone.
Yeah I love my DNA slick thin light but feels solid as do all HTC phones in my opinion. There really isn't a phone out or coming out that would make me feel jealous. This phone benchmarks with the best of them and we have a slew of roms out. Plenty of development by top devs who know a thing or two about fixing these issues we have.

I'm going to definitely stick with HTC if at all possible. If they updated the One with wireless charging, possibly a 5" screen (current size is good too) and the latest tech, I'd bite as soon as it came out.
