Stock unrooted 4.3 rom - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I have an mdk rooted s4 meaning that I can flash roms and other stuff like that through a recovery like twrp. I was wondering if there was a flashable zip for the new update , mj7, that is safe to flash and is unrooted. Thanks

Not unless you want to lose custom recovery and lok'd bootloader. A 4.3 rom will come out soon.

The update just came out so give the devs a some more time and you'll get a stock mj7 rom for your lok'd s4.

Big ol' question.

So my bricked LGOG is back, but it is on ICS. Can I update to JB without issues if I have root, twrp and everything on it?

I seen in other thread you used Teenybin, that updated your partitions to 4.1.2 so you can flash anything you want.

Restoring a nandroid doesn't update your partitions but if you are planning on flashing to a stock based JB (either Stock OTA JB, SlickJB, EG8, or SnowJB) then I believe you don't need the updated partition layout. Just flash away. One thing to note though, If you ever plan on flashing a AOSP 4.2.2 ROM or higher, you will need to use teenybin in the future. Also, always keep a spare ROM or nandroid you know works on your SD card. Just in case.
Edit: Unless you used a teenybin and then restored a nandroid. Then you should be okay no matter what.

If you get OTA notification you would need to be on 100% stock ICS or it will fail to install. Or you can use file in link with lgnpst, it is a zip but unpack it and it is a tot which you rename to bin.

You have the AT&T version & the boot loader is locked just like the S4. That's why I parked my S4 & bought this International GT-I1952 Mega. I have since got a GT-I9205.
Europe has 3.4.0 kernel.... And what about a CM 10.1 or 10.2 ?

The AT&T has a locked bootloader. Until it is unlocked, we cannot use a custom recovery.

Questions

I'm on mj7. I want the cm11 on my phone and was wondering if I could flash a cwm recovery over to my phone, then boot into it and flash cm11? Or do you need root to flash a custom recovery? Thank you for your help
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
I really wish you would search the forums for this frequently asked question. But at this time there is no custom recovery for your firmware. I would recommend buying an MDK firmware s4 off of Swappa. Other than that you're SOL.

Thank you. I took it for granted that there was a recovery for 4.3

MJ7 means no KitKat?

I have safestrap installed with hyper drive running, right now. My question is whether I'll ever be able to install kitkat?
Am I only able to install 4.3 roms with safestrap?

Yes for now only 4.3 TW Roms for you. And I'd wait on updating to 4.4,via ota until people figure out how to root it and implement SafeStrap. May be a while

kitkat will be next OTA why would you think you won't be able to have it?
now, there is no safestrap for andriod 4.4 and root I don't think is available yet either.

I'm sure the poster meant even after the OTA comes out, he won't be able to stay on 4.3 with Safestrap and install a custom 4.4 Rom.

Just bought a rooted phone of swaapa

As the title says, I just received my phone from swaapa. after my s4 mdk version broke. The phone is rooted and it's running 5.0.1 I'm not familiar with this version. So for safety measures can some one link the restore file you would use to restore it back to stock (the one used in odin).

There is no way to put the phone back to MDK. However, the info in this thread will give you some guidance on downgrading to KitKat and keeping root, among other things. 5.0.1 isn't bad. I'm running stang5litre's debloated 5.0.1. I bought my SGS4 from Swappa, as well. It was not MDK, either, so I'm limited to what ROM's I can run. Hope this helps.
Is it AOSP or touch wiz? If its aosp it's likely to have an mdk bootloader. Can you give us a screenshot of your "About Phone" in settings?

Don't flash a stock ROM in Odin. If you do that you will loose the MDK bootloader forever. You're a lucky person, you can flash whatever you like right now, whether it is a TouchWiz or AOSP. If you loose the MDK bootloader you loose the ability to bootloader bypass exploit.

Yes, or you could just update TWRP to the latest version and try a 5.1.1 CM based ROM. I recommend Exodus: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3135866
