[Q] Kernel for Sprint Note 3? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

I saw somewhere on here a link to a post in the Galaxy Note 3 forums. It was a pot about a kernel that worked on our Sprint variants but somehow didn't make it over here. Several people had posted they were running it and it worked but I can not find that post anymore. Any tips?

It's probably in here some place. http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/orig-development
I'm not sure if anyone is working kernels for our phones or not but the kernel source has been on opensource.samsung.com for a while now.

Thanks to Faux, we now have 2 kernel options other than stock. Imoseyon in the TMOB forum also has a working Sprint kernel.
Options are ALWAYS good, but before you run off and start testing beta kernels, have a stock backup one you can flash to recover, k?

I'm not positive on this, so don't take this as the definitive answer, but from all the reading I've done, flashing a rom from one carrier onto an android device of another carrier is a really good way to brick the phone. I'm not saying it CAN'T be done, as maybe someone out there has found a way, but at the very least, I'd imagine you'd run into all kinds of issues (freezing, apps not loading, crashing, etc.) if you were even able to do it without bricking...

This was from the thread I linked above:
he said not to flash other carriers software in odin...he didn't say you couldn't flash another carriers rom via zip file in recovery. Long as you don't flash the att bootloader or radio you should be fine! Roms flashed via a custom recovery only replace the system/kernel.
----- Previous post was at 08:53 PM ----------
Well, I just flashed the JellyBeer v3.35 for the ATT note2 and it booted up just fine. was a bit surprised to find no data. wifi works just fine. was gonna play around with the apn info, but wasn't sure if it would make a difference.
thoughts?
BTW, GPS seems to be working fine. 12/17 sats with an error of 13ft. Took about 60 secs the first time it tried locking up. After that, instant!
------- Post added at 08:54 PM -----
you will have to edit apns, there is a thread for that in dev section.
While it's not something I would suggest the average user to attempt... it sounds like they are onto a solid method...but of course it would be at your own risk. Most would probably be better off waiting for the ROMs to be ported over though.

Yeah, I had seen that thread you linked before you posted it but when last I checked, the general consensus in the early posts was "DON'T TRY IT!" lol. That's why I said I wasn't positive on it. Thanks for the heads up!

[UPDATE OP 2-4-13]Use any LTE rom on vzw galaxy note 2 (at&t, sprint, T-Mobile)

i don't know if anybody is actually subscribed to this to know what im saying but ive started porting over NT7100 roms to vzw im about 85% done just got to figure out why the baseband wIll not flash correctly anybody that can help i would love it
1-25-13 UPDATE for anybody using a sprint rom you can ged rid of the hands free activation by going to system-->apps and rename SprintDM.apk to SprintDM.apk.bak
1-25-13 UPDATE AGAIN Okay ive been trying a lot of roms from a-z from every carrier and ive noticed something some roms wont go past boot or just restart now ive said do a full wipe that will usually work but if it does not try this install jelly beans build 6-7 your choice then install over it it has fixed a lot of the roms that will not boot for me so try this if you have one you want to use that will not boot
Okay anybody who has a 64gb micro ultra sd card class 10 thats wants to use fat 32 on it instead of ex fat here is a fun little program i used to do mine that way GUI FORMAT
THNAKS TO toskabab we now have a way to port roms without the patch and keep the tweaks if you would like a certain non international rom ported there is a way now. im no expert but check post #298 for his post very informative works every time im not like some people wont mention names but if you would like me to help you out step by step pm me and i will give you step by step instructions on how to do this
Okay you can use any rom from any carrier on you vzw note 2. Its very easy first off you will need to download any rom you wish. I will use the Jedi x rom for T-Mobile as an example you can download it JEDI X.You will also need the Verizon kernel. (if you want to use it its not required but can work better at times) VZW KERNEL .Also the Verzion modem file vVZW MODEM I have had great luck with the jb one but you can use whichever you like.
So to start off download all the files I have linked and put them on your external sd. After that you will want to boot into recovery I use twrp but you can also use cwm if you like. Now wipe both cache and dalvik cache, the system, and factory reset (unless there are system mods you need to keep) if so just wipe the cache files. Next install the rom you want (any rom from any u.s. carrier) once you do that you will need to also flash the modem file and the kernel file. (the kernel is optional but i do it just for good measures to make sure everything stays Verizon). After that you should be done reboot and enjoy the new rom you just installed and if you are using one from another carrier and you want the default vzw apps and widgets like the data widget here is another file you can flash threw recovery as well it also fixes any 4g issues you may have on other roms VZW PATCH
video is up PROOF VIDEO
METHOD 2 Credit to Clarkkent434
1. Flash superwipe ziphttp://db.tt/mOoP6cOU
2. Flash rom
3. Flash modem or kernel
4. Flash patch
5. Enjoy
Thought i might as well add this i am not resposible for anything you do to your phone nothing is flawless flashing is done at your own risk but if you like my work give me thanks

We can't do custom roms without a custom recovery (cmw or twrp). I don't think custom recoveries are available yet. Unless you know something I don't (and that's very possible since I don't know much - lol).

Do you have a metro pcs mega? And if so, did you odin flash twrp on your phone?
I want to be sure before I try because I bricked my metro pcs mega the day I bought it and never got it back working. I had to go back to MetroPCS and get another one. I do not plan on bricking the one I have now. I don't want to take a chance until I know I can recover it from a soft brick.
Without having a firmware that can be flashed in odin, I'm scared to try anything.

Yes I have the Mega from Metro Pcs. That's why posted the link to the other thread.
Yeah, I rooted and and installed the recovery than was like hmm probably shouldn't have done that with out there being a firmware release but oh well. I'm wild that way.
I instilled it through Odin. the only file from that link I used was this one.. http://goo.gl/J5JAH0
Tested Working 100%
I downloaded the attached file, put phone into download mode and flashed the recovery via odin 307. I fully booted the phone and then shut it off to reboot into recovery which is now replaced with TWRP.
Now to see if I can find a lighter ROM something like extremesperia. I haven't seen any multi-carrier roms for this phone so I am not sure what will work.
I also used the backup feature and was able to backup the entire phone.

any of the gsm roms are likely to work on the metro mega, the CM 11 build definitely will as it works on the canadian mega that i have which has all the same specs as the metro mega. the only reason to get the canadian mega in the past was because it was unlocked without a locked bootloader.

I wouldn't go that far tbh...I'd be somewhat cautious as at least on my note 2...there are several variants and all have the same hardware, but run into issues flashing roms incompatible to your specific device. It's kinda guess and check as I've seen i9200 which is the 3g mega intl have a few minor apk issues vs i9205 lte on my rom alone, much less larger issues like framework and data structures or kernel variances between intl and carrier based. Just heads up from someone who builds for several different devices and hardware configs. When it comes to carriers sometimes it's hard telling what the hell they're doing lol.
One thing major is for carrier based devices of any kind, the biggest thing is the modem...If you flash an intl you may lose the carrier frequency.

1. Yes, this is a true unlock. There is no other unlock mechanism on these phones. This is not a work-around, and calling it as such implies that there is any alternate method to use.
2. As for bricking, unfortunately we can't be held responsible for people that haven't done the legwork to verify that what they're doing is safe. We (Team Codefire) never released any mods for the G3 variants that were not unlocked in an effort to do our side of the responsibility to not make it easy for people to accidentally brick their phones. Now that recovery is released, if the end user does not ensure that TWRP functions on their device and ends up getting it in a state where the stock rom does not boot - this is 100% their problem as we were careful to ensure that all the information an informed user needs to make this work on their phones is out there.
2a. Regarding CrossDL, we actually will have a workaround for that here soon. As long as people don't touch their LAF or Factory partitions we can unbrick them from almost anything short of them editing sbl/rpm/tz partitions (which nobody should ever be doing!)
So are you implying boot loader is unlocked? Because this is similar to Loki like on the g2

No, you will not need to ensure your firmware version matches exactly with the ROM you have. You will only need to make sure that the ROM you downloaded is compatible with your carrier.

It's already been started by the devs that roms AND kernels will be able to be flashed as long as they are bump compatible. So yes there will be custom kernels.
As already stated here, and in other threads as well as the official Bump thread by the developers themselves, this has unlocked our bootloader. We are essentially free to flash ROMs, kernels, and other mods (provided they've been Bumped) as if this were a Nexus device. The past couple days have been a fantastic turn of events for our lovely device.
Now, am I the only one constantly checking the development threads hoping for one that has [ROM] in its title? I know we're probably weeks away, but I can't contain myself. I'll gladly donate $50 to the first developer who brings us a fully functional AOSP ROM.

Some devs were given the bump api early so they could get to working on ROM's.
There is a working CM with bugs in the works and should be released probably around the same time the bump api is released.
People are talking something as long as the developer "bumped, bumps" roms and kernels, what does that exactly means?

Roms don't have to be modified the boot.IMG has to be bumped so we can flash, cubed has said very simple and will share soon with the Dev so the end user has no worries.
so does anyone have anything to test yet. I am itching. I preordered a note 4 the other day now I am thinking I will be cancelling that

True unlock last time I checked the arthor of that did not have anything to do with it. Idk what makes them think its a workaround.
That's like LG saying thats an LG G3 & and your telling them no it's a fake (clone)
Who are you going to believe
Anyways it don't matter it's unlocked why are you stressing it so much? Lol

[SM-G530T][5.1.1] In search of a way to put a custom recovery on a G530T

Hey guys, I've just spent the last two days searching high and low for a way to put a custom recovery on my rooted Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime (SM-G530T), and I've come up with close to nothing. Most forum posts about custom recoveries only refer to the SM-G530H variant of the phone, and I am in no way experienced enough to know what is and isn't safe to flash onto my phone in regards to other models custom recoveries. If someone who is more well versed in this area could let me know if any of these recoveries are safe to use, it would be greatly appreciated.
The only thing concrete that i have found on the subject is an obscure tech site's tutorial on rooting the G530T/G530P, which recommends the custom recoveries CWM and TWRP for the Grand Prime. however, the links given are disappointingly vague and do not provide any information on the models that the referenced recoveries are compatible with. As I am still a new user i am unable to post a link in this thread, so if you would like to see the referenced tutorials then you can DM me and Ill give you the link. I would really appreciate any input on this because i'm honestly out of my depth here.

There are no recoveries built for G530T ATM. The ones for the G530H work fine on the G530T from what I've tested. But, you cant flash zips or even make a backup on those so.. Yeah. Kind of useless in a way. For now, I use flashfire to flash zips but Xposed doesn't seem to flash or want to. I am currently making a custom TW ROM for the G530T that is debloated with some extra goodies. Testing it is kind of hard without a custom recovery. I may get someone to build the latest TWRP for the G530T so I can do some modding on this device, can't guarantee if he will.
Regards.

Its funny that you say that actually, because in the days after I first made this post I continued my search and was able to find a version of TWRP on xda that works for my SM-G530T, I then used it to flash xposed and everything seems to have gone just fine, the only small hitch is that you can't make nandroid back ups with this version, unfortunately. If you would like I can DM you the link to the twrp version since I still can't post links in threads

Can you send me one too. I've tried the others for 530h and they do not work on the 530T.
May I also get that link, if you don't mind too terribly much? Many thanks in advance.
Link please
Same here. May I get that link? Much appreciated.

Though it does work, you cant make backups and I cant seem to flash roms with it either. I use flashfire to flash roms and such (I built my own thats debloated).

Ok I have it working and can confirm that it crashes on backup. I've made a backup using Online Nandroid Backup apk, and I am wondering if anyone has done the same, and successfully restored from it. Or does the restore bomb out same as the backup?

I have had the same problem CWM/TWRP get's to 90% and dies. I am convinced that there is no custom recovery for the 'T' version. Rooted fine with Kingroot (no init.d support on this rom). I'm also using init.d scripts support from the play store and 3ctoolbox pro to facilitate root until there is a custom rom from cm, hopefully.
