Factory reset from in ROM, setting menu - formats internal SD

I find my pictures are still there. I'll try again in case they are on my sd

If you use custom recovery /sdcard is not cleared. You must format /sdcard.

I'll make sure my ext is removed and I'll need to root 4.1.2 to clear the new folders and then wipe one last time just waiting for full charge to flash

[Q] Advice on a soft brick.

It's a random softbrick, no changes have been made for months, so I've not backed up for ages, I want to svae contacts and messages and app data.
Will odin wipe data, can it be repaired with CWM no wipe flash?
Long version.
I've been using ICS for 4 months.
I did a wipe and fresh install on the release of the official GB ICS.
I then used clockwork mod to changle toggles and clock, then triangle away.
Things were ok until a month ago when I hit the App to SD memory bug, which was fixed be removing apps back to internal.
Again been fine for about a month.
Then today, random lock on "Samsung Galaxy s II gt-9100" screen.
No changes have been made for ages, the only change was adding on{x} today.
Whats the best way to try and get this fixed? I want to save as much data as I can, I've not backed up for a few months, as I wasn't ,making any changes.
Should I just Just use odin and see what happens, or is there a better way, even if it is longer?
Can I put a no wipe flash on my SD and use CWM to try and repair? Is this a more complicated risk move? if so whats the risk.
I'd really like to keep as much as I can 'cos I've got the perfect setup for me (besides the boot lock...)
THanks folks.

I just don't want to wipe my data.
I was wondering if a cwm rom would be able to fix it. or Do i have to use odin
I don't want to loose data or current setup and apps

Yeah, thanks for the help anyway.
I didn't know if using CWM to flash a different rom would work.
I was hoping a no wipe rom would fix the error was and keep my apps and data.
It didn't.
I used odin to flash a base > then CWM > then resurection.
I've lost loads of data :-(
But my phones sweet

I really should know better, as a sys admin I bollock folks all the time for not doing backups. luckily I backed up messages recently, so should also have contacs there. Just all my save games, app data, is gone

What exactly does get wiped on a SGSII

Sorry for probably creating a duplicate thread but I need an answer and FAST, so I don't got time to search for more than 15min and that didn't turn up any real results...
So I have been asked to install CM9 stable on my sisters SGSII, I backed up alot of stuff to the SD card but then noticed that this phone has huge amount of internal storage used and all of that wont fit on the SD card...
So my Q is what exactly does get wiped in CWM on a SGSII ? I remember my internal storage getting wiped on my GNex when performing the OEM Unlock, but after that CWM manages to only wipe system data.
So if I wipe this phone in CWM will the internal storage (which is for some odd reason called "USB Storage" ????? ) also get wiped? If it gets then putting CM9 on this phone will never happen...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1419102
THX but I said I don't have time to search for a so simple answer as DOES A CWM WIPE ALSO WIPE INTERNAL STORAGE! and linking to a thread with multiple links to multiple FAQs isn't helping when the FAQs don't have my question in them, sorry if I'm sounding like an asshole here but I seriously just need to know YES or NO and typing that here can't be much harder than actually searching for a thread to link me to...
So if anyone actually know the answer to my Q like right now, then please! just post here if the CWM wipe actually wipes the internal storage. thanks!
Also the reason for not having time to search if me being over at my parents house with limited time on this PC to do this, would probably be done with this by now if this info would already been on the CM Wiki, all it tells me there is to backup, it never says what CWM will erase...
Have you read the noob-poof instru ctions. If you go ahead and do stuff without reading then youll end up in trouble.

When flashing another rom via CWM, internal storage stays intact.
Sent from my Galaxy S2 GT i9100
You didn't need the answer to this quickly at all.
If you're not totally sure of the ins and outs of CM9 and what exactly it entails, then simply don't do it. It's not as if you've got to do it for your sister. She's simply asked you and you've said yes. You could have quite easily said that you weren't too sure how to do it so you'd rather not risk it.
You're a prime example of why these forums have so many rules which might seem pathetic and useless. Too many users simply want a quick fix or an immediate answer to something, without even bothering to out the leg-work in for themselves.

[Q] going from 4.2.2 back to 4.1.2

Hello everyone hope you are all good.
Please could someone help me out? Yes im a noob I like to tinker with my phones but im a little stuck. I recently went and updated my phone to 4.2.2 but didnt like the way it set the file system up. eg emulating sd cards for multi user's and also the fact it changed the internal storage from sdcard to sdcard0.
Ok heres the problem I didnt make any sort of backup before the update (yes I know im stupid) . All I want to do is get the phones file system back to the way it was on 4.1.2 eg no emulated sd and the internal storage to be sdcard.
I've since gone back to stock 4.1.2 via Odin after using megawipe via the cwm recovery.
But this didnt fix it :crying: .
If anyone can help me out with this it would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry if ileft out anything you need to know but new to this never had to ask for help
use search, there's an exact same thread from a couple of days ago
you could use Root explorer to get your files back but seems you screwed up the phone :/

what didn't it fix?
After restoring to 4.1.2 it didnt fix the file system setup my internal storage is still called sdcard0, and instead of the normal path its storage/sdcsrd0 ??
how does that matter?

Read the basic faqs and guides first .
jje
Matters to me cos when I download and install an app I like to know where its going and the ability to move them to my external sdcard if need be.
Its down to personal taste at the end of the day... I didnt like 4.2.2 cos of the whole multi user mess. I thought that by joining here someone might be able to point me in the right direction . What controls the way the files and folders are sorted out.?
you are not able to move your files to external SD? you never mentioned it
Ive since gone back to 4.1.2 stock, still not able to move apps to the external sd cos after flashing 4.2.2 it messed up the file system. Even aftet flashing back its still the same

Was moving apps to external sd via GL to SD app. Was all working fine until flashing 4.2.2 which decided it would change where it put files and apps.
I used CWM recovery to use megawipe then odin to put 4.1.2 stock back on .
If anyone has a guide to megawipe then reflash without odin please let me know.
Atm im on 4.1.2 unrooted. :banghead:

in the same boat, I noticed my sdcard sppears wiped but isnt wiped. I hope people saying search etc. are not deliberatly witholding the answer because that isnt nice.
if the same question was asked 2 days ago in the same way why does this thread appear on google but the other doesnt.
I did this whilst connected to adb (with it booted in recovery)
Code:
adb shell
cd /data/media/0
mv * ../
cd ..
rm -rf 0
Also tho I had to remove duplicate folders from the /data/media first or the mv will fail. I am surprised no function has been added to recovery apps yet for this. Or maybe they think noone will ever downgrade from 4.2 (I think 4.2 is a bad version of android).

The people saying search generally are aware of the answer. In regards to /data/media/0, I wrote a thread on it and its in general in "sticky roll-up thread" which everyone is expected to read.
However it has since been determined that the OP's problem is completely different.
OP reports storage/sdcard0 which has in itself nothing to do with 4.2. All aosp roms use storage/sdcard0 for internal and storage/sdcard1 for external. Unless the OP Missed a / and means storage/sdcard/0 which is something all together different. Its a tricky one. Its hard to resolve without seeing it

well the forum is fragmented and as a result stickes are easy to miss.
eg. I did check the FAQ on Q&A section which didnt have the info, I will check the post you mentioned as am curious of course.

I agree it is fragmented. I don't see the benefit of separate general and q&a
I think we should have:
Android Development
Android Original Development
Q&A / Guides
Accessories.
But oh well.
As a very last resort could u not hook up to kies software and initialise your phone with mine it resets it back to factory as u 1st took it out of the box surely that would reset it bud

Suggest that to the moderators or someone in power. Either they'll laugh at you (which won't happen IMO) or they think about that, because it would make the searching through xda more easy.

I think it's related to this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2274218 I'm not quite sure but take a look at least.
Known behavior, explained many times.
New mount points leave the old Rom on the phone.
Check rootsu guide.

How did you full wipe? Full wipe from non-stock recovery DOES NOT clear your SDcard.
Well screenshot abit later but ATM its like I've done hard reset from stock recovery least 4 times and its every time like that storage .Currently idk why its like that. When I enter the folders I don't find any content of any sort cause I've wiped every think clean .But still I'm left with 4.6gb storage and I have these 2 folders I typed only soooo its bumnmer
Here you go
Please im deeply confused and ima ****in cry. When i went to flash some other rom to see if this folders get fixed i noticed that my old stuff from 4.1.2 aint actually deleted but are somewhere deeply buried. In CWM i see the path to them but when download some root explorer i just cant find them

Not what I asked for.
I specifically said /data/media NOT /storage/emulated.... probably why my guide didn't help.
Also I asked for "disk usage"... these were very important

Hi Folks,
I believe this questions has been asked before and answered but some questions still bugged me.
I deleted some photos which are stored on the Internal Memory of the phone (Yea dumb me forget to switch it to e external storage)
1) I understand from other post that to recover back, i assume i have to root my phone?
2) Will rooting my phone at this point of time cost me to lose my chances of restoring back those deleted photos?
3) Is there a way to recover my photos without rooting & without USB Mass Storage Mode?
Would any kind souls advice me please. :crying:

Is your phone working? Or is it broken? I assume it works fine, so you say you deleted pics? I think there is no way restoring them, if you "deleted" them. What is deleted is deleted, android doesnt have "recycle bin".
And next time please use Q&A section.
EDIT: there might still be hope...did your pics auto sync with google +? Log in and check
