Well let me give you the steps
1. Make a backup of your contacts and apps if you want
2. Be sure you have at least 50% battery left
3. Go to the custom recovery and make a nandroid backup incase something goes wrong
4. Do a full wipe in recovery (data, cache and dalvik. System is not needed but I recommend to do that one also)
5. Install your rom in recovery
6. After that is complete go to fastboot and flash boot.img if that's needed (like going from JB to ICS or otherwise)
6a. If you have boot.img that works with the new rom and you don't want anothet you don't need to flash it again
7. Let the phone boot for the first time (this takes 10 minutes max)
8. Setup your phone and restore your apps if you want
That's it
Just to explain your question directly: For JB Sense based ROMS, you can use every JB kernel from Original Development section including stock kernel. That's why there is no kernel installer in each ROM thread. You can use a kernel Installer of your choice, replace boot.img with one of your choice and run the bat file while your phone is connected in fastboot mode to your PC.

The most important thing u have to take care of is that the roms is for ur Hboot version as you are JB I guess your Hboot should be 2.24 so look for that kind of roms and follow the steps given by @GtrCraft
Hope everything go well
EDIT:someone can tell me how to link an user? maybe @GtrCraft ?

You are using the wrong recovery for your hboot: JB is hboot 1.25 and ICS is hboot 1.24

It says "HBOOT - 1.25.0002", so it is JB. I thought I used the right recovery.. will install another recovery. To install the recovery I have now, I used the Windroid toolkit for the Desire X.. Maybe I chose the wrong version or something ..

Hi, I'm running a stock P500 and I'm a bit disappointed with its performance. I'm looking for a ROM which is feature-complete, i.e. no missing features such as Bluetooth calling, etc. and minimal to no deviation from the stock Android UI. Any suggestions?
use megatron ROM it is the closest in my opinion and has very good performance but i would suggest trying the other ROMs that have gingerbread like miks cm7 they are not missing much and what they are missing you can get back

Ok, so this is all kinda new to me so I wanted to make sure that I have the basics covered:
1. I need to root my phone. I'm running Android 2.2.2 so I guess that means I need to use gingerbreak. It's an .apk file that I need to install on my phone and then I run it to gain root access. Are there any command line actions needed for gingerbreak?
2. After rooting, I need to install a ROM manager such as CWM or AmonRA. If I'm not mistaken, the program itself will install the custom recovery, right? And how do I boot into that recovery mode?
3. After booting into recovery mode, I need to do a nandroid (?) backup of my current ROM, right? And the backup of my stock ROM is restored through the same custom recovery, yes? Would restoring the stock ROM unroot my phone and remove the custom recovery as well?
3. After backing up, I need to flash the custom ROM which should be saved as a .zip file on my SD card. Do I need to worry about the kernel as well?
Sorry if I have a lot of questions.

1. Install it, open it and select "Root"
2. No, the root program won't install the recovery. You need to do that; the easiest way is by Rom Manager (download from market); boot in recovery: turn off the phone and start it by pressing at the same time: home + vol down + power key and release at lg logo to enter custom recovery or just select boot into recovery from ROM Manager
3. Yes, make a backup and to restore it just select "restore" from the same place. No, you will restore the backup you just made so your phone will be exactly the way it was when you created the backup (including apps, settings etc)
4. Yes, you will enter "install zip from sdcard -> choose zip". Don't forget to wipe cache, dalvik cache, data/factory reset and format /system before you flash the rom. Other kernels are not mandatory but highly recommended (the differences are big) - also wipe just cache & dalvik cache before flashing the kernel

Thank you. What are the precautions that I need to take to make sure I don't brick my phone? Also, what are the chances of my phone getting damaged and at which point during those steps is it most likely to happen?

The chaces of bricking the phone are very small.
What can happen:
- some people reported that their phone got bricked when they installed the recovery with ROM Manager (this can be easily undone, there is a thread about this). Never happened to me, everything went smooth & fast. There are other ways to install a recovery if you don't want to use ROM Manager, just check the Development section.
- the ROM you choose can be uncompatible with your recovery (all the new roms are compatible with clockworkmod recovery (this is the recovery you will install via ROM Manager); there are some older roms which are compatible only with AmonRA)
- after flashing a custom kernel the phone might not boot (no panic, just flash the rom again or restore backup); check if your ROM is compatible with the kernel you choose
Flashing with recovery is very safe because everything can be easily undone. As long as the phone boots into recovery there is no panic.
But most of the time if your cautious and do everything as told your fine~~
hahaha.. Enjoy..
Rom manager give Cwm.. So no hassle..

Your backup will appear as a folder on the root of your sdcard (/clockworkmod/folder with the date of your backup). You need to save that folder on your pc just to be safe.

Thanks! Is it safe to do all the flashing/work from within ROM Manager? It just seems too easy to be true.
Also, is there a 'compatibility matrix' of some sort for the different ROMS and kernels available? Since I want GB, I'm planning on flashing Mik's CM7 mod. Is Franco's kernel compatible with that?

I say it's pretty safe. As I said, worked like a charm for me.
mik_os's rom is flashable via clockworkmod recovery and compatible with franco.kernel (bfs version).
If you are interested in a froyo stock rom with just the root and a performant kernel like franco's one, I could cook a rom for you...

Thanks. I was able to gain root as well as install CWM. I'm currently backing up my current ROM. Now I'm not sure if this is a stupid question but when I install a custom ROM, wouldn't that overwrite CWM? How do I go back to recovery then, say, to reflash my original ROM?
Flashing a rom through recovery does not overwrite the recovery.
And you can always boot into recovery by pressing and holding home+volume down+power when the phone is off till the recovery menu boots.

For flashing rom : wipe everything, partition SD card only of you want to use a2sd or data2sd (check ciaox's REPO thread for more info about these two) and then choose flash from zip. If you are wiping battery stats then do it when you are fully charged.
For flashing kernel : wipe cache, dalvik cache and battery stats. No need to partition SD card.
EDIT: yes you need to flash zram initialiser. Keep in mind to flash Cfs version for froyo and bfs version for gb roms. Also always reboot between multiple flashes.

There are stock roms listed in the development section you should be able to flash. If you are hboot 1.5 try this, flash stock rom located in development section making sure you wipe system/data/cache first. When boots into that rom search the development section for an app called "flash image GUI" also located in the market, install it. From that application select the rom file you intended to upgrade to, follow prompts within the program and it will prep your device for the rom installation. The program will prompt your with option to boot to recovery, use that option and then flash the rom you preped for from recover, wipe cache reboot.

Hi Guys,
I need some help here. I had a stock android 2.3.6 and here are the steps I tried:
- Unlocked my N1 (through fastboot)
- flashed the RA recovery image (through fastboot)
- Wiped the device.
- Copied the Evervolv-Perdo-2.2.0a5-passion-aroma.zip to the SD card
- Booted in recovery mode and installed Evervolv.
After reboot, the blue X animation just sits there rolling and rolling. It's been 25 minutes since I rebooted and the main screen doesn't show up.
Is this normal? if not, next steps?
Thank you!
I got the same problem today after flashing ExMIUIv4 for lww.
I have choose the unlocked bootloader for the first time (i check and the bootloader is unlocked) and now is stuck at the sony logo ;_;
If anyone have a solution, please tell us.

Hello, I just got my Rezound today and the first thing I did was Unlocked the phone, Installed CWM and Rooted it Via [TOOL] [7-3-2012] HTC Rezound All-In-One Toolkit V2.1.
Everything was working fine. I could get into CWM recovery. I could still boot into the stock rom.
Next I downloaded NeWts-One-XxX-RLS-3.1.2-odex-signed.zip.
I wiped data/factory reset. wiped dalvik cache. installed the rom successfully..
When I reboot, I get stuck at the white HTC boot screen. I can still access CWM. I tried wiping and reinstalling. I tried downloading a different version of this rom. Nothing worked.
Should I try installing AmonRa? Can I just install right over CWM?
To clarify, I have not done anything other than what I have just said. I have not installed any custom kernels. Did not make a backup of the original rom (because it froze mid backup). I did not even use the phone at all before unlocking/rooting other than to make sure it booted.
Thanks in advance
Mike

You need to extract the boot.img file from the rom zip then use fastboot on your PC to flash it.
If you're not sure how to set up fastboot, I believe the all in one toolkit contains the needed files, following the instructions in the thread to download, install and use it.

Be aware that if you are on Gingerbread firmware (you are!) and running ICS ROMS, you need to flash the "Oldfirmware" patch to mount the SD card correctly.
Since you are S-on...every time you flash a rom you will have to flash...
1. The rom
2. the kernel (boot.img) that goes with the rom. You'll either have to pull this out of the rom itself or most dev. provide it as a PH98img file to flash in bootloader.
3. If an ICS ROM...flash oldfirmware patch.
ALSO, you didn't mention it but there is a patch to RLS 3.2.1 that correct some minor bugs. Its on themikmik ! Have fun.
EEK....use AmonRA NOT CWM

You're definitely using a TWRP recovery made for JB hboot? @GtrCraft, did you put the right boot.img inside the zip?
Also, you can try flashing a custom JB kernel of your choice.
@dansou901 I believe so, flashing this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2344254) work like a charm (except for the rom that hasn't got any wifi, ...)
How can i check to be sure?

For booting that ROM a CM kernel is needed. As you have installed one (if it works like you said), you need to install a JB Sense kernel (just pick one from Original Android Development section). Then reinstall SuperSense and you should be fine.
I'll give that a go and let you know
@dansou901 , i've used this boot.img (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2337389) because i've already been able to flash that rom as well.
but now i can't seem to get rid of my previous custom rom. i've done a factory reset, i wiped everything there is to wipe, i've flashed the above boot.img and supersense but it's still another custom rom on my device :s

That one's made for ICS, if I recall correctly... Don't use it. Use this one instead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2099513 But be sure to use a JB version.
After changing my recovery, finally i was able to flash the custom rom. I used the boot.img you gave me, but is that going to affect some of the features in the rom?
And i would like to thank you allready

No, it's not. You can however choose the kernel yourself as I said... But keep in mind that it has to be a JB Sense kernel (just read the OP of the kernel thread carefully, then you'll know). For recoveries, keep this in mind.
