[Q] LTE Service? - Xperia Tablet Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does this tablet work on the Tmobile network in USA? Model #SGP351/B. Wondering cause of the free data for life thing Tmobile is promoting right now. Some say it does, others say no and that it is AT&T only. So if anyone that has used it on Tmobile's network please let me know before I commit to the LTE model otherwise I'd just get the wifi model. Thanks! Oh and is it worth getting the Sony dock for it?

Just went out to T-Mobile and their system rings up this tablet as a phone.. Lol doesn't qualify. Goodbye LTE model hello WiFi. ;(

YES
this model does work with T-mobile LTE.
I have the same unit and the LTE icon shows up and I get LTE speeds. Now i am using a pre paid data plan so I dont know if it qualifies for the free 200mb
However, the only downside is its still running on 4.1.2 with no timetable if or when it will get 4.2.2

That's weird. Oh wells, I'm happy with getting the wifi model nonetheless. I have it on 4.1.2 as well. I could flash a ROM on it but from what I've seen there isn't support for the Bravia Engine in most of them.

Is LTE a feature on all of the XTZ's, or just specially marked?

LTE is only on specific ones that says 4G LTE. Otherwise its just a WiFi model

Can i just put in my T-mobile phone sim into my Xperia Z LTE and have it working ? I tried to, and it takes me to some ConnectMe T-mobile upsell page, anyone know a workaround so i can use my existing sim on it? (sim fits, is lte)

[Q] Rogers Galaxy Tab 10.1

Edit:
I popped my cell sim into the tablet. it connected at H+. I guess I answered my own question.
Thanks
I bought a Rogers tablet off a guy who said it was a 3G model. The box was opened but the tablet is brand new.
The Box says 4g on in. I've already put overcome on it. now I'm wondering is it a 3g or a 4g.
Is there anyway to tell by the physical case?
Also is there a thread on the different models and sub model numbers.
Thanks

AT&T markets HSPA+ as "4G." Rogers does the same thing. So it's officially a 3G Tab capable of 21MB down on a HSPA+ network. Rogers and AT&T call that 4G the rest of the world calls it 3G or 3G+. I'm using a phone SIM in my 3G UK Tab on AT&T and get 8MB down in fake-4G (the only real 4G is LTE) cities. The benefit of using a calling plan vs. data-only is you get unlimited messaging too. I don't know if Rogers works the same way.

good explanation and yes Rogers does work pretty much the same way.
The only differnce will come is with the roll out of LTE that is ongoing for Rogers. It is my understanding the 9500R just released by Rogers is capable of LTE but your sim card will have to be changed to accomodate both the increase in speed and (more importantly) the increase in billing charge from Rogers.
so is the latest overcome the best rom to use? or are there others that are better?

there are the stock roms just issued with KI2 base but I believe that is also the basis for Overcome -- install of which also provides root and a complimentary CWM file. The simpicity of this appealed to me!
So its the best starting point I would say at this juncture.
BUT the stock roms for the 10.1 are themselves quite robust, something those of us with the Galaxy S for example are unused to! So you can root and install cwm without overcome and use a stock rom -- best is always subjective and a personal judgement.
Some of the other Roms have good development but are for the wifi only version and look good but aren't meant for the Rogers Tab -- didn't stop me trying them and checking them out mind, but it all depends how much of a flashaholic you are! You need a deodexed rom if you want to install any themes at this point.
The sole custom kernel presently is the Pershoot one: allows you to OC to 1400 and does play nice with either the stock or the Overcome rom -- there is a thread and you can see the feedback yourself.

[Q] Is GSM unlocked on Verizon S4

I just killed my Nexus and I'm not eligible for a discount with Verizon until 8/22. I'm looking at the S4, full price in my case, I guess (sigh!) Does anyone know if the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 comes with GSM unlocked? (I remember reading that the Verizon iPhone 5 does and can be used abroad by simply swapping a local SIM card.)
During my trial purchase on the Verizon website, it asked me if I wanted to keep the current SIM number (yes), and later if I wanted the phone implemented for worldwide GSM (do you think they mean through their own services, hence locked GSM, or open to any carrier abroad)?
Thanks for the input.

All you have to do is give them a call and let em know you will be traveling abroad, they will adjust your plan accordingly. I dunno if the S4 is global capable though, hardware wise.... Make sure you call them before using it abroad, failure to do so will most likely result in a massive roaming bill....
If you look on the hardware specs, it says its a Global Ready phone on Verizon's website. It has GSM also. I think it is possbile to put in a att SIM and go. Don't hold me to it though

Yeah, I believe it's FCC required because of auction rules for the 700mhz band Verizon LTE is using.
That said, you may still need root to enable new APNs.

I appreciate if you show screenshot of APN setting. if possible also network screenshot.
For now all I know is you can get WorldWide plan from verizon and you basically will be paying to verizon but you will use that other carrier as an atena... Cool, but it's VERY EXPENSIVE. Calls internet everything. Is there a way to somewhat hack sgs 4 verizon to use it internationally without needing that stupid expensive plan.
The SiMs are very cheap and the phone plans are very cheap in Europe, sometimes it's even more profitable to buy an unlocked phone just to travel.
So, does anyone know yet how to hack it ? There was a way like that on SGS 3.
I upgraded on Verizon and then traveled to Europe on the same day. All was working well with Verizon in the US. I then put in a sim card I bought when I arrived, and it worked for calling as soon as it started (no changes required). The add apn setting was greyed out, but it worked anyway. I put in the appropriate apn settings and it now does mobile data, voice, and sms. I dont know about MMS, yet.
I did all this without root access, but I went ahead and did the root procedure this morning.
I have to go to another country in 2 weeks, and I may get a different sim. If so, I will update after that.
I do have a persistant warning in the status bar telling me I am using a non-Verizon sim, but no other ill effects.

Hey, thanks for info. Are you using Verizons World Data plan ? If not, when you come back to US is it possible that you will get a pretty large bill for using outside of US ? What type of internet are you recieving, 3g, HSPA or maybe Edge ? What countries have you tried this in yet ?
Also where did you get the phone, pre order or in store?
Thank you, I'm asking so many questions because I really wanted to get an upgrade but I will be flying to Europe for this whole summer and I thought it wouldnt worth it right now.
No, I am not using Verizon's plan (as far as I know). I have a local prepaid sim and phone number with prepaid data on a gsm network (T-Mobile) and so I do not receive calls on my US Verizon number - they go straight to Google voice answering service. I get a H+ symbol for data when I am in an area with good reception, and 3g elsewhere. So far, I have only tried it around Berlin.
I bought the phone in the store.

T-Mobile HTC One on AT&T

So I found someone I might trade my S4 for an HTC One, Its not unlocked but I know several places to unlock it, as I have AT&T.
How well does the T-Mobile HTC One work on AT&T are the correct 3G/HSPA+ bands there? Would LTE work?
100% fine.
Yes, T-Mobiles HTC has the bands for ATT so it will work great
I love my HTC One. I've seen my friend's S3's and this is by far a better device. And to me, the S4 is an overhyped S3 . Just saying

I'm leary of that. We all said the same about the Note2 but I can't get my Note 2 to get LTE service on ATT. Before I grab a TMo One, I'd like to see posts confirming it works out of the box.

I have my Tmobile HTC One on At&t LTE right now and I have done a speed test reaching 35mbps. You do have to make sure your account has had a prior LTE device on the account or the device might only get 3G speeds. I told the phone rep to put my wife's unused HTC One X on my line and gave them the IMEI of that phone. The reason for this is because At&t does not have the Tmobile models in their database, so the only thing they can do is link your One to your line as a generic 3G device.

Ah, that's good advice, and may explain my inability to get LTE on my Note 2. I've never owned an AT&T LTE phone, and never will. I guess picking up a TMo One with intention to unlock and use on AT&T is not going to work for me.

Your tip worked on my Note 2. Once I got ahold of an LTE devices IMEI to give the AT&T rep, they were able to provision my account for LTE and now no issues.
I just picked up a T-Mobile HT One to do the same thing with (I have accounts on TMo and ATT), but the sim unlocking service I usually use is having troubles giving me an unlock code. Weird.

You're gonna need the correct ATT LTE Apn...this is the one I used to use on ATT when I was with them. Data and MMS working.
Same situation here: I bought a T-Mobile HTC one, unlocked it, took it to AT&T, and after a lot of wrestling with them got AT&T LTE and HSPA+ both working (you will need to make sure: your AT&T account is provisioned so your data plan is LTE-capable; you have an LTE-capable SIM card; you have endless patience to push AT&T to give you a 'dummy' IMEI in their database of an LTE-capable phone).
Here's my issue, though: it runs hot whenever the wifi OR the data are on. I'm wondering if it's because I'm running the T-Mobile radio (4A.14.3250.15_10.34.1150.02L) on AT&T's network.
I've been told Android phones "just run hot," or that heat is a product of a rogue application (so far, nothing seems to be running when it shouldn't). I am new to the forums so I can't post over in the development area yet.
Anyone have any thoughts on whether trying a different radio would address the heat issues? Any other heat-diagnosing tips?
Thanks in advance!

I can tell you why I am looking to go to ATT its because T-Mobiles coverage sucks. I have constant issues with their network.
Also when you think about it why would you offer a connection over wifi, shouldn't their phone work.
I bought a prepaid card just to test but I didn't connect to their LTE but I think its because they haven't provisioned it properly.
Time to go back again. I think I want to keep the HTC one because its a good phone can't see getting the S4.
Now att has next but still has the rate plans up there. I like t-mobiles pricing but ATT service is much better.
Find a nice AT&T Salesperson
I used to work at AT&T and i've just used a generic IMEI to provision LTE on a non AT&T phone. If you find a nice salesperson to help you they'll be able to look up a generic IMEI in the systaem for you. Its an internal tool they have to look up an IMEI for you. Hope this helps.

[Q] Grandfathered T-Mobile $5 data plan on Galaxy S5?

Is there any way for me to get my grandfathered $5/month "Preferred Phone First Unlimited Web Only" data plan to work on a Galaxy S5?
Currently I am told "Your data plan does not work on this device", but it works fine on an HTC Radar 4G.
I'm hoping to at least get some part of the data plan working on this phone, even if some features might be limited (i.e. even if I can only check email, that's better than nothing)... currently I can't use my data plan at all on this phone.

Yup I just replied to that one right now.
Question though: is WCDMA/GSM 3G or 4G? Or is it a marketing ambiguity? I'm confused because online sources say WCDMA is 3G whereas the phone changes from "4G LTE" to "4G" (not "3G") when I switch to that...

Just go to settings then about phone and click Status and see what type of network you are connected to . It will say UMTS or HSPA+ .Depending where you are will decide which one . I just turned my phone to that setting GSM/WCDMA and I am showing HSPA+ . So that means you should get HSPA+42 which isnt bad at all here in saint louis .. I see actual DL speeds of up to 20Mbps on HSPA+42 . Did you call TMOBILE and tell them about your problem ? I wouold think if you are grandfathered in then they should take care of your problem by offering the true unlimited on LTE ..Unless that isnt in the original contractT

Oh I see, I'll take a look under the status then.
No I haven't tried calling T-Mobile, and frankly I don't know what our original contract looks like (I don't think I have a copy, and if I ask them to send me a copy I'm not sure I could trust them to have not changed the terms).
I'm also worried if the wrong rep sees the plan, he/she will mess it up -- most of them have a tendency to go to great lengths to get you off the grandfathered plans (they aren't even all aware that the plan exists) so it's not worth the risk for me at the moment.
If you log into your tmobile account it should blaintently show that you have the $5 data . I dont think there is anyway they could mess that up .. If I had UNlimited I would defenitely want to use LTE .

When you say "unlimited web only" that is different then "unlimited data". Those are very old plans that were out for specific phones. In order to get this to work, you are going to have to Google a lot and figure out the proper apn settings. What does the Radar 4G specify as its APN settings? I would try to get as much information from that phone as I could. Secondly, it could be that T-Mobile is reading the device you are using and then not allowing it to work on their end.

Well it says "Preferred Phone First Unlimited Web Only", but like I said, I've read more than on horror story about how representatives have messed it up... if I have to go that direction I will, but I'm not convinced yet that I do.

Yes Elsebb commented below and what he said is what you should go with ... i didnt think about the web only thing . that is completely different. You need to figure out the correct APN settings and go with that . I think it might be impossible to use LTE with it . cant really hide LTE

It doesn't seem to be related to the APN at all. I just tried another new Android 4.4.2 phone (I'll avoid mentioning what kind since I don't want T-Mobile to see this and block it =P) and it works just fine on LTE with the typical fast.t-mobile.com APN.
I guess that means it's based on the IMEI, meaning you just have to find a brand/model that works, so there isn't much hope for the S5.

You know what, i remember when i was getting a new phone carrier that i heard of Go Phone and that if you purchased a Go SIM for an ATT phone, it simply won't work, but if you bought a GSM phone and unlocked it (one that wasn't ATT branded) it worked perfectly.
I wonder if you are experiencing something similar. The S5 that you have, is it T-Mobile branded? And if it is, is the Android 4.4.2 phone you just tried now T-Mobile branded? That might be the issue.

That's possible but somewhat unlikely since my HTC Radar was also T-Mobile branded just like my S5. I can't rule it out without testing it on an unlocked phone.

Did the HTC Radar have LTE?

No, but I don't have any reason to believe LTE is relevant here (it never seems to make a difference in any scenario).

The thing I'm getting at is that phone because it doesn't have lte, is an "approved" T-Mobile phone that works with that plan. See if you can get an unlocked att s5 and see if it works.

Galaxy Alpha DEAL $260

I thought I'd share this deal I found on eBay, I bought one a few weeks ago but unfortunately I don't get it for another month, since I live in mexico and a family member has to bring it to me, but I think for $260 its an awesome deal
Here's the link http://www.ebay.com/itm/191516989450
Also i wouldn't hesitate to long, they had this deal a few weeks ago when I got mine and it only lasted a few days.
Edit: it's at $250!
Thanks for sharing, please let us know when you get the device.

I'd look for T-Mobile HSPA bands and look what bands this device supports, I think it gets LTE as well
I ordered one and got it already.
Works great on t-mobile. 20 megs down!
Only problem I am having is that I have been unable to update to lollipop.
This is most likely due to the fact that I have a t-mobile sim in there instead of an AT&T one

I think it's because the update rolls out in waves, a lot of people still haven't got it
I order one just now. Its now at $250. I will be using it on T-mobile. My main is the Note 4.
just made a thread with a questiong about this i hope they delte it now but i am ordering one of these now and was wondering about the tmobile situaton as well.. Will i get the update to lolipop with a tmobile sim? also will i still have fast lte speeds? im getting like 50 down in lansing and detroit area . The reaso i ask is becasue i found this post on amazon in the coments
CONS for T-Mobile users! And these are Deal Breakers for me.
* 4G LTE is ultra SLOW! While the symbol shows 4G LTE, the speed is just good 3G speeds. My max was 5 to 6 Mbps down and about the same up. Compared to my S2 and S3 on the exact same spot on my desk, get 15-20 Mbps on the S2 and 25-30+ Mbps on my S3!
* Hotspot feature will NOT work on T-Mobile. This has been confirmed by me calling AT&T, T-Mobile, and Samsung support lines. If you need your T-Mobile hotspot service, then this phone is a no go. (NOTE: the XDA forum and other sites have a hack that requires you to root the phone and then do multiple steps each time you want to enable the hotspot, this is a deal breaker for me

The guy on post #5 says he is getting 20mbps down? Well, this will be my secondary phone. I will be testing out the speed and will post back here.

this will also be my second phone but will be sharing sim card time with my moto x second gen... Do you think we will still get the 5.1 ota update with a tmobile sim?
You don't know how lucky you guys are, here in mexico it's rare for me to see 1MB/S, I almost always average 300KB/S, and that's on H+, I'd love to have 5 MB/S

I was just looking around XDA, it says you will NOT get the update with a T-Mobile sim card, because it has to connect to its servers, and it won't allow a T-Mobile phone to connect, maybe you can update with Samsung kies, I'm going to have my brother update mine before I get it.

If you know someone with an att sim card have them put it in, update it, then take it out, or maybe even get a prepaid sim card
Edit: what if someone extracted the update, then we just manually install

I edited my last post, if someone nice enough on XDA extract the update for the ATT model we can manually flash it, since root isn't required to flash ota updates

i found a friend on att but his sim card is micro not nano so i wonder if att will let him activate a new nano sim just for 1 day so i can use it and get the update, worst come to wrost i guess i will need to get a prepaid service on att to get the sim
I Need help.
I put my T-mobile nano sim in. The phone call work. At first my data (saw 4G LTE) work. Now it doesnt work anymore. I try to access webpage and it say no data service. I have it on data roaming and it say T-mobile. What other settings to modify and verify?
Thanks!
Edit - Got it working after following a APN setting from my real Tmo phone and just type everything in this phone and now I get data. I am getting 4G LTE icon.
