[Q] help needed - HTC Desire X

Because I am a new member I can't post this in the development section so I will post it here and hope people can help me. I am going to root my desire X but before I do so I would like to know what recovery should I use people say TWRP but others say CWM I'm confused on which one is moat stable, all I want is a stable recovery. What ROM should I use and again I just want the most stable one. People say don't use a custom kernal but other people say I should so can you guys tell me about that and if I need one yet again can I have the moat stable one. I know some ROMs have kernals with them and if you know of a stable one please help me. I would also like a ROM that is bug free or the bugs arnt going to bother me or interfear with dalily use. Thank you very much to anyone who can help I really mean it.

I will say TWRP. and its rock stable (the stable versions of course. Beta and alpha are meant to be unstable, dont use them for daily use.)
Some might argue benefits of CWM as it is stable... and i will NEVER agree with them. Both are equally stable. TWRP has MUCH more features and a nice button-saving touch interface.
Here you go:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2099513
Choose the recovery as your hboot (ICS or JB).

Hi im new too but i have some experience in rooting and flashing roms in desire x I need at least 10 post to talk in development area so here goes my first post.Im using TWRP its simple to use and easy to learn to use it.I´ve been using CWM but it has gave me some problems with recovering MD5 backups.
So in conclusion i recommend u to use TWRP but the best thing u can do its to try every recovery u want and select the best one which fits you
See u soon.

[Q] Why no CyanogenMod?

I ran CM7 nightlies on my DInc2 and updated to the stable version the day it came out. Technically, I am a noob so I really don't know what I am doing, I just know what I like and I can follow directions. (Except for Matt's ICS update when I forgot to protect the root and had to start over with .181, doh!)
Why is it that CyanogenMod is unavailable for one of the hottest phones on the market? Is it because of the locked boot loader? (which I will have to look up cause I don't even know what the heck a boot loader is anyway)
It's not über important, I just really miss my CM7 and was wondering if anyone knew the answer.
Locked bootloader= no custom kernals also there is cm9 but not cm7 nobody wants cm7 anymore ....
Sent from my Spectrum....Verizon's most underrated phone
You don't need custom kernels to have official CM.
That being said, our devs are hard at work on making a fully functional CM ROM - thing is though, since we have to work around the kernel that our devices are working using a process called "2nd-init", since we have locked bootloaders, everything is taking a lot longer and is a lot harder.
We have a partially working CM9 ROM over at http://droidhive.com. We also have AOKP.
Would you recommend a partially working version for noob who really loves CM?

Get the fist leaked ICS. It is cool.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using XDA Premium App
I am running 4.0.3. I agree, it is cool. I still think I prefer CM.
CM isn't necessary at this point in time.
hy,
i am quite sure this questions wer answered x-times, but i didn´t find the answer in the forum, so i will ask:
1) Can we expect that the Bootloader will ever be UNLOCKED?
2) Are some DEV´s (and who?) working on it? Do they inform the folk on ex. twitter or so, like the iPhone guys (musclenerd, pod2g, ionic,...)
3) I already updated to ICS-TMobile-Leak, is my bootloader now different to the one in GB?
somehow i thought, i shoud write a NEW post, but i hope its okay to ask here, coz +1(wanna hav CM9 toooo)

1. I think only Moto can unlock the bootloader, cause someone else told me it's an hard work because of 3 layers of encrypted code (I don't know what it means!)...it requires a lot of time and a powerfull machine
2. see n°1, Eternity project team are working on a bypass for bootloader (kexec)
3. ICS Bootloader is different from GB one, I guess.

and if this kexec is developed, we can flash costum kernels and so CM9 too???
yes.

Wait a moment...kexec is not necessary for CM9 flashing...you can flash modded rom, yet.
kexec (or unlocked bootloader) is required for mod kernels!
I am on icsleak, means i cannot flash costum rom as long as devs are not developing roms for my existing kernel right?
So i need to have kexec to bypass the kernel flashing to flash a costum rom...

First phrase. Yes, I think so, if you can't downgrade to GB, as I guess
Second hrare. I don't know if kexec gives you this opportunity. You have always to flash a compatible kernel with a custom rom, its or others. This is my guess, someone else can confirm or not?

Quick question about rooting and ROMs

Hi,
New to this scene, but basically I want to run pure jellybean on my S III I9300.
I've looked at a few tutorials on YouTube, and then I came across this:
http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-root/how-to-root-galaxy-s3/
Would that be the best way to root my S III?
And in terms of roms, I'm basically after a stable rom that I can use as a daily.
I've seen heaps of different roms on the site, but I would like to know what most people are running, in regards to what I'm after.
To flash the rom, do I go into clockwork recovery and install rom, then g apps, and then clear SD cache?
Thanks guys

No see item 1 in my signature, safest and fastest way to root. I assume you have an International Galaxy S3 with a 4412 Exynos cpu. If you have another device it will not work.
For a good and stable rom there are many good ICS and JellyBean rom`s. I personaly prefer the one in my signature. But you try anyone you like. Read up a bit aboutt rooting and flashing first i wouls suggest, to prevent possible problems.
See the Development section for rom`s, good luck and happy flashing mate
im really confused now lol
i understand the root part, and i can follow that quite easily.
but im really unsure with the roms, i heard cm10 was good, but then i also heard people complaining that some things dont work.

As you are new to flashing I would stay away from cm10/aosp Roms until you're more comfortable with what you are doing, get used to flashing Samsung based Roms/flashing mods/creating and restoring nandroids and generally feel confident in what you are doing
I also suggest you stay away from any AOSP builds.. Until you get some more knowledge and know all the tricks to fix basic problems rather than creating numerous amount of threads
Just root and install Omega 13 or Checkrom
Tip: Nandroids are your best friends when flashing roms.. It's always great to make a back up before flashing anything

If you are interested in custom roms and kernals you should probably root your DX...
There are threads which will explain you each and every detail about custom roms and kernals..... You can make the phone look the way you want...
If you root your DX i recommend you to use TWRP its stable and easy to use! Thays what i found
And yeah dont forget to hit the thanks button

Just don't start another ROM comparison thread as we already got a few of them here. I recommend you to start reading in Android Development section, it'll be self explanatory. If not and if you have particular question to a specific ROM, you can ask there or here if you are not allowed to ask there yet.

Hi it depends on what are u using ur mobile for if u want.I had the interest to try diferents ROMs that why I've rooted my phone and install many ROMs. many of them half-bricked my phone but allways i found the way to fix that just looking in this forums.I strongly recommend u to root it.Doing so u will have a large amount of new possibilities like removing system apps.
About Recoveries I use TWRP after testin CWM and i prefer TWRP its easyest to use anda it has another option that CWM doesn't have.
I hope I help u good luck with your choice and have fun with ur phone

Well this is not an easy question to answer,Rooting our device is really easy but to unroot im using the Desire x toolkit posted in developers forum it has the option to lock the bootloader to unroot the phone.About the stock ROM i recommend to do a backup of it doing a factory reset.I recommend also to save the backup in an external memory like personal hard disck device or a pendrive.U will have the option to recovery it later if u want,u can also look for STOCK ROMs ruu looking to ur CID that could be taken using the toolkit i mentioned before.
good luck guy!
help with chosing ROM and toolkit
I was going to use the windroid desire X root kit is that a bad idea and iv chosen to use TWRP recovery but is there any stable ROMs you can recomend and again any help would be appreciated.
Even i am new to this rooting stuff...
But i am enjoing a lot! Flashing new kernals roms is fun but at the same time we have the risk of phone brick...

[Q] ROM and Kernel for my friends phone

I need to flash a new rom to my friends phone. He will give me the phone for one night, so I don't have time to experiment. Could you guys recommend me a rom and possibly a kernel? He won't flash his phone much, so I need a rom and a kernel that will stay speedy and stable for a long time. I'm considering flashing CM10.2's latest nightlies and it will be the best if I don't need to change it's kernel so he would be able to update the rom in the settings. But maybe there is a better kernel for it, or a better rom, instead of CM. He prefers the rom to look like AOSP, not touchwiz.
P.S. As I said he won't flash often as I do, so he needs the rom/kernel to stay stable and speedy for a year or so.

I'm not asking this for my own device that I have a lot of time to experiment. I do that on my Galaxy Nexus. I don't see why they would close it. If hey delete it after I get an answer, that I understand.
These threads are not allowed because it's all subjective. If you ask 100 dudes who the hottest girl is in the world, you will get 100 different answers. Makes sense when it's put like that huh? Thread Closed

Q: What is the best rom for xt912

First of all I'm a complete noob. Now that i clear that, i made that question because i live in Nicaragua and I have a xt912 that is unlock the gsm. I want to know about a good rom and also if i dont lose the unlock if i install rhe rom.
Thanks for all the help
Best ROM for XT912
Well that is a matter of opinion and everyone will have a different opinion... But, for a 'noob' I would recommend something stable with excellent support.
I would recommend that you use ' Safestrap ' to install ROM's. It will keep your stock ROM intact so you can always go back to it. It will create 'slots' that are separate partitions and you can install the ROM's in those slots. I have the stock ROM and two other ROM's on my phone and switch back and forth between them. Be sure to read the safestrap thread.
The two best in my opinion would be CyanogenMod (CM11) and Paranoid Android (PA).
I think that PA is the most straight forward and closest to a stock Android experience, not too many options and customizations but it is stable and reliable with regular updates.
And CM11 is what many other ROM's are based on. It is a reliable ROM and there are nightly updates so bugs are fixed pretty quickly. There are plenty of extras and it is customizable but doesn't go over board with too many options.
There are a lot of other good ROM's to try once you are more comfortable with flashing and 'tweaking' things. Liquid Smooth, SlimKat, Carbon, PACman, AxxionKat, etc. Each ROM try's to be unique and add their own options.
But just starting out I would really recommend PA and CM11. Read the threads and ask for help is you need it, there are a lot of people willing to answer questions.
Good luck.

LiquidSmooth! The best.... Stable, all features....
Or SlimKat, LS is based on Slim
If u have questions about flashing or need some help, just pm me, I'll guide u [emoji39]

I would have to say that Paranoid Android is the best ROM because it's fast and it's good for everyday use
