I would like to know how many differences there are between this two kind of dual band.
i've bought a T-mobile from USA (i'm still waiting for it so i don't have it now) and i saw that it is a 900/1900. I'm in italy, so i would like to know if i'll use only 900 or 1900 too (i think in italy 1800 is used).
i think i'll have to unlock it, the vendor told me it is a pocket pc 2003, do XDAunlock, work on it?

I'm sorry to tell you since your network works on 1800 Mhz your new T-mobile PW10B1 wont work on this frequency it's made for 900/1900 Mhz if you unlocked it or not it's not gona work, you need the PW10A1 devices they work on 900/1800 Mhz.
but there are cellphone companies in eu who use 900 maybe there are some in your country

from what i've been able to understand about the 900/1900 then it's a hardware limit the GSM part of the xda1 will have to be physically removed which would most likely be way more expensive then getting a new device

The XDA1 is available in two flavours (from what I read):
USA: 900/1900 bands
EU: 900/1800 bands
Since both flavours support the 900 band, you should be able to use it in Europ on one of the 'old' networks.
In Holland both KPN and Vodafone have nationwide coverage on 900MHz.
Since TIM is and 'old' company too (Telecom Italia isnt it?) I guess theyre on 900 too. To be sure: check the websites of the Italian mobile operators. Be aware that reception in some areas might be less than if you could use both 900 and 1800 bands as more and more operators are extending their networks on 1800 only (because of lack of free 900 band frequencies). I noticed this a few years back in France where in rural areas there was no coverage with a 900 phone and full reception with a 900/1800 phone (same network).
Reading the forum i've read that is possible to chose band 900/1800 and 900/1900 by bootloader and pressing calendar...can this be true for some model?
p.s. Of course TIM uses 900...i wonder if it will ever use 1900 one day
i think UTMS or some other replacement will take over before us and eu start to use the std's of eachother
just another question, i found information about special edition rom. It says that with bandswitch.exe some devices may work with other "not natural" band. So i'll try when my XDA will be shipped.
TIM wil NEVER use 1900, at least not in Europe. The 1900 band is not available for telecoms in Europe (just like the 1800 band is not available in USA)
I've got T-Mobile from US working in Russia on 800/1800 through ROM upgrade. What it did - it removed SIM Lock and turned the device into 3-band. Works perfect.

i haver never heard about anybody being able to make a dualband into a triband using just software the filters and mixers in the hardware part og the gsm are different
I have never heard about that either. As far as I know frequencies are hardware based. Otherwise we could flash our XDA's to anything we wanted.
I have researched this for weeks and weeks since I need my XDA I to work on the 850Mhz network in the US quite badly.

I got the same problem you do but reverse , I'm in the U.S and bought the phone from Europe ( qtek 1010 ) my phone will not work in the U.S because the network here is 1900 and in europe 1800. If you want I can trade with you if you have the same phone. I got all the package in a box.

There are 3 major networks in Italy that have 900 mhz networks.
They are:
Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM)
GSM 900/1800
Vodafone Omnitel N.V.
GSM 900/1800
Wind Telecomunicazioni SpA
GSM 900/1800
If you are within any of their networks you should have service with your
current Wallaby. (XDAI). You should be able to insert your sim card and go.
Some ROMS auto select the available network, others do not. There is also a program that you can cook into a ROM that give you a software selctable band switch.

Just to clarify my last post:
It has been discussed on this forum, for a few years, that you cannot
change a 900/1900 phone to 900/1800 using software.
However since your phone does operate on 900 mhz and there are
900 mhz throughout Italy, including Sardinia, you should have no problem using your current phone. In fact I have used my USA 900/1900) XDAI in Italy.

Straight swap...I made a mistake and bought a T-Mobile from the US thinking it would work in NZ....it won't and everyone on the forums agrees....so only option is to replace with a European one...

I live in Jamaica, we have to GSM networks, 850/1900 & 900/1800 my XDA1 works well on both networks... although signal strength from the 900/1800 is stronger it makes no big difference... I believe the shorter band is essential in buildings etc. so wait till you get the phone and give it a try.
I tried the Band Switching application in the Special Edition ROM, it made no real difference.
Slightly off topic can someone point me to an explanation of UMTS???

Tmobile Sim card it says that I am running on E network instead of 4g. Is there anything I can do to change this? I contact Tmobile and they say it's the phone not their line. Please help me out because running on the E network is very slow

The international i9100 does not support 4G. Only option would be to get a 4G enabled one.
its because the international galaxy s2 doesn't have the same 3g bands as T-Mobile (assuming you are T-Mobile USA). They run off of 1700/2100 while the phone itself supports 850/900/1900/2100. While only the 2100 band matches, if you don't get 2100 coverage in your area, you will default to 2g.

So you started another thread on this, where I also answered your question. This phone will never get HSPA+ speeds on T-Mobile USA - or what they call "4G". It lacks one of the necessary frequencies for it. It will only get Edge speeds. From what I remember on how T-Mobile USA's network functions, 3G and "4G" need both 1700 and 2100 mhz to function, as it uses one frequency for download and the other for upload.
EDIT: Here's the wikipedia article on AWS, which is the band T-Mobile uses for 3G/4G. In brief, AWS uses 1700 Mhz for uplink, and 2100 Mhz for downlink. So since it only gets half of the band, it won't do "4G".

Unfortunately, the bolded/underlined part is simply not true. T-Mobile USA needs your phone to be able to get both 1700 mhz and 2100 mhz UMTS frequencies to do 3G/4G. If your phone doesn't have one of the frequencies, it won't do 3G/4G at all, and fall to Edge (2.5G).

No. The phone simply doesn't have the hardware to receive the frequency. Nothing you can do to fix this.

Wow that's weird, here in aus you only need to match one freq to get 3g. Do you know what t-mobile has done to require two bands to match? (its just my curiosity asking)

You need Galaxy2 HD LTE to access 4G. That particular model is not available outside Korea at the moment. If you want 4G, try Samsung Galaxy Note or LG Optimus LTE - also known as Nitro HD, or HTC phones.

That indeed is weird and inconvenient, but I guess telco's can setup their system however they like... It may have lot to do with number of people using mobile services. In OZ we have 22 million potential mobile users using 4 major telco companies, whereas in USA, they would get most of OZ population just in New York city, let alone rest of the country.
Ah systemcrasher I think they might be load balancing the hspa+ mimo across the two freqs. Telstra nextg doesn't need to coz there's allot less people here.
If that's the case still should be allowed to fall back to a non mimo mode.
Let this be a lesson to the OP, always research all carrier pre requisites before buying, also consider other carriers encased you'd like to stay open to other options.

So the answer is the link to the wikipedia article in my quote above. It's not T-Mobile USA's doing per se - they just purchased the AWS-1 (also known as UMTS band IV) band of the spectrum. That's just the way this band is set up. Wind and Rogers in Canada also use this band.
Quick question, im looking into buying a cheap chinese phone because 1, im not picky about being top of the line, and 2, because its inexpensive. But ive been looking into and around the internet for supporting information stating if these chinese phones work on Tmobil, AT&T, Net 10 or Striaght talk. Here is the general break down fo these phones

·4.3 inch Capacitive Multi-touch screen, QHD (540*960)
·CPU:MTK6575 CPU 1GHZ Dual core
·Quadband: GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz 3G WCDMA 900/2100MHz

I know that the talking/txting/mms will work on the GSM bands provided but its the 3g that im thinking about
I see different things all over the place; some phones are 800/2100, 850/2100, 900/2100, and 1700/2100. The 2100 is prob the only consistent band, but i dont know if, say, 900 correlates to western US and 2100 correlates to eastern half. OR the 900 and 2100 cover ALL of US and you need just one of them. Besides that, several phones on I think tmobile such as the HD7, here's a link to what I mean,

For AT&T, the band is 850/1900 MHz for both GSM and WCDMA 3G. For T-Mobile 850/1900 MHz GSM and 1700 MHz for WCDMA 3G. If your phone is WCDMA 900/2100, 3G will not work for both AT&T and T-mobile. You must have at least one band that matches with your network. For best 3G coverage, both bands must be supported by the phone.

I also found these phones with 850/2100 MHz WCDMA bands: Star Xperia S LT26 and THL V9.
The THL V9 has a 4.3 inch screen with qHD resolution (960 x 540 pixels) and Android 2.3 but I think it has already an Android 4.0 update. You might want to check it out.
I was looking into those as well as IHTC 310x or something like that, but the 3g bands are 850/2100 but i need 850/1900. Any other phone references you know of?

Hell, ill take a phone with 1700/2100 bands too... if they exist... which i doubt in china.
Most Chinese phones I know are 850/2100 or 900/2100. The ShangHe Aone may be the only dual SIM phone with optional 850/900/1900 bands.
The Meizu MX has a WCDMA/HSDPA band of 850/900/1700/1900/2100 MHz. This phone is high-end, with dual core 1.4 GHz CPU. It also has a quad core version named Meizu MX Quad-Core. Both are very affordable for their specs.
Anyone make any progress in getting this figured out? I've been looking into buying a chinese phone to use on t mobile and it looks like most of them operate WCDMA for 3G speeds, which won't work on t-mobile. Does anyone actually have one now that they're using?

you need one with both 1700 and 2100 in order to get 3g hspa unless your in a coverage area where tmo already supports 1900. in some areas where im at people i know with crapple iphones get 3g where tmo has refarmed thier netwok they are working on getting this frequency to more areas so its wait and see

Simple answer....NO
I too was looking to buy a chinese phone with hope that I would be able to get 3G on Tmobile. Tmobile's 3G unfortunately runs on the 1700 MHz band. If you don't see that band in the phones description you will only get 2G aka EDGE network on TMobile.

I don't know for America, and I am not a techie myself, but from what I understand, you have to look at the frequencies the phone proposes.
In Belgium, 3G works on 900 / 2100 MHz, if the phone doesn't support this, you will fall back to 2G.

In addition to 1700 MHz, T-Mobile also supports 2100 MHz so 3G will work where you get 2100 coverage in USA.

also remember when buying chinese phone, their government doesn't allow google or ggogle play store to be installed stock so you will have to root it and manually install this also

This is not entirely correct. Part of T-Mobile's HSPA network operates on the hybrid AWS 1700/2100 Mhz frequency where one part is uplink and one downlink, which is not the same as operating solely on 2100 Mhz frequency like many of the Chinese phones work with and many other countries use. They are not compatible.
However, that being said, their HSPA network also works on the 1900 Mhz frequency in most major metro areas of the US now as well as many other parts and many of the world phones do support that.

The device is a Quad-Band hspa device.
according to most sites with specs for this phone here are the bands it supports. Note that you will need to sim unlock it through T-Mobile/Ebay if you wish to put a non-T-Mobile/T-Mobile MVNO sim in the device.

Hello everyone ... I bought a Moto E XT1524 in Spain. The phone works on 3G bands 900 and 2100. In Argentina, the country where I live now, the 3G bands are 850/1900. Because of this my phone only works in 2G. Looking I found this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/general/unlock-hspa-bands-moto-g-1700mhz-xt1032-t2878441 that explaining how to unlock bands. The question is whether you know if the phone will have this possibility. I mean, if the chipset supports these bands and doing the procedure will fix my problem. Or definitely is a limitation of hardware.

I assume that the hardware is the same between phones, and that the radio bands are set by firmware. If I'm right about this, you would need to flash firmware on your phone that supported the bands that you want. However I am only guessing about this.
