Guys is there an app to backup SMS and email the conversation as is ?
I have tried many apps in play store but all they do is taking backup in xml format and emailing.
Its of no use to because it can be viewed only if restored to same/another mobile.
I want to view the SMS conversation in PC itself (in txt format or doc format)
is there specific app for this purpose ?
Bump

I very stupidly and accidently deleted a text and I need it back!
Is there a way to recover an sms on the galaxy s3??? Thanks!

There's no way to do it, as far as I know. From now on you should back up your text messages using SMS Backup +. It synchronizes to a Gmail label.
Dam had a feeling there wasn't a way... Yeah I saw this sms back up apps when it was too late haha

If you didn't backup your text messages on Phone previously, then it might be tough to recover. I would give the free trial of Dr.Fone for Android a shot to see if you can recover the deleted text messages. Hope that I'm not late.

Theyre stored in a database. They are not part of the file system. Data recovery apps cant help

If I was looking for them manually, where would I look?
/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db
I think that is it but you will not be able to read it in text. Are you trying to backup messages? Using a different app such as go sms or handcent would make it much easier.

you can also download "SMS Backup and restore" by Ritesh Sahu. it'll save your SMS & MMS's into a single .xml file to your SDcard and you could also upload it to Dropbox.

This is also what I would suggest. You can keep multiple backups in html format. I was able to bring over my answers history from my DInc, although I have not worried about maintaining backups much since.
It's a great tool.

Hej, i'd like to save & then restore sms/call history from a nandroid, however the apps/method i tested erase current one while restoring...
For SMS there's GoSMS Cloud that works, however limit is to 1000 and i've reached it. For call logs, no idea...
I need to send back the phone in few hour so hope someone can help me to find a solution quickly... Thanks!
Not sure if it has a limit, but have you tried Titanium Backup ?
It does erase current one. Please people, help, only got an hour left to save with the right app....

Don't know if it's to late, but did you try Google Backup SMS ?

Don't find any app called like that... Where do you get it?

Does it have to be from a Nandroid ? If not then you can try My Backup Root.
I have one contact2.db file anf another xml from titanium, i want to merge them for restore.

Hey there!
It probably is possible to merge it, but I think this is an easier solution:
I use SMSBackup+, it's awesome! (PlayStore link.
Just backup your sms with it, they will get stored into a separate gmail label.
Now restore your old sms (overwrite the current ones) and restore the other ones from SMSBackup+.
Did work like a charm for me in the past.
Thanks, gonna try!

I am currently using SMS Backup+ to backup my messages. It works great but it does not restore MMS messages. Does anyone know of an app that backs up to a cloud service and restores everything including all MMS with the associated pictures, files, videos, etc.
Much thanks!

Try Jottacloud. It perfectly syncs with an Android device to cloud.
Try android sms + mms transfer.
Hi, I used to use whatsapp toolbox 3 months ago.
Features are:
Hide online whatsapp status
*important* it can edit the text messages in the chat (recieved and sent)
It can do much more things
The prob is:
First they removed it from playstore (they said temporarily, but still no sign of it)
But luckily, I had a backup of it. I installed it, but now it doesnt recognise chat messages, its like it doesnt work anymore. I guess it from the new version of whatsapp.
So does anyone know how to fix it? Or more important, does anyone know how to edit whatsapp messages?

I would uninstall it and reinstall it from here: http://blackenvelope.net/apps/whatsapp_toolbox/
Works like a charm here.
