NFC Compatible UPDATE at Bottom
This QI receiver pad works much better than the first one I tested. It's ability to work with the LG WCP-700 is a huge perk. The pad looks wider, it fits better, works with more pads, works through most cases with no issues etc.
Out of the two I've used so far, this one is better in every way... So far...
By request... This is the auction I purchased it from.

EDIT:
Added this video. It should cover the thickness, couple of cases, Google Orb charger, charge rates, and NFC usage.
EDIT (4/27/2014):
NFC Receiver UPDATE
Well I got really busy after I purchased a third receiver and didn't publish any information until now. Why did I purchase a third receiver? Well it was because of NFC. The second receiver is still the best with charging, but this one is a close second. I could not get NFC to work with the second receiver. This one will work through most cases.
eBay Link: I'm posting search results. Just match up the model with the one in the video. It's easier this way in case some of the auctions end.

Thanks for the video. I'm holding off till I see the video with the cases on. I'm too clumsy for this baby to go naked.
Also, have you experienced any issues with NFC using this one?

I don't personally use NFC a lot, but yes there are big issues with the NFC. I'll do a follow up video showing it being used with two cases and attempting to beam to another phone.

Does this add buldge to the original back cover? Or from outside it looks as before and stays flat on surface?

So what charging pad do you use with the receiver module?
How long does it take to charge the battery when placed on the pad?
Thanks
The receiver is made by yijieneng.
Does this charging system fully charge a Note 3? Another thread mentioned wireless charging systems don't charge to 100%.

OK, thanks for clarifying!
awesome video, I was looking at that receiver as well, have had good experience with that brand yipin or yieneng on m s4.
the biggest quest for me is does it bulge? the s4 there was a spot where the chips would fit in the notch for the microsd, but I dont see a notch on the note 3 so I wonder if they designed it to fit in some kind of recessed area?
Thanks in advance.
See the 3 pins where you connect the wireless receiver:
Top one is +5v.
Second one is Ground.
Thrid one is for S-View Cover (+) - (in case you wonder that the heck is that for)
In the event that you have a S-view Cover, you just have to use second as a common ground between the receiver and the S cover.

This receiver is pretty thin in everyway, as with all receiver, you will get the bulge, but you will not really notice it, would you rather have a receiver that has no bulge that does not work well or a receiver that has a slight bulge and does what you expect.
Can you still fit a case on with this installed? I have a hard case sedio with a kick stand and do not want to give it up.

you can enable s view functions as explained in my video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqzDf-CDLT8 i bought the cheapest case and receiver and works fine.
am using the same in my car with my qi enabled car charger holder https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTNAPp2UkkI
have a newer one with NFC pins but not had time to do a video, will try to do one later tonight, think it should be the thinnest till date and charges fine at home.
getting the official one in a few days too and will review it when i get it. ordered a second official one from clove uk. my original order for the official one made in early october from mobilefun hit the wall from the scamsters at mobilefun. was repeatedly getting emails saying delivery delayed and whether i will accept alternate product (please note no mention of refund in any email), then a week or so ago saw on their website that it was in stock but still didnt get delivery and got another email saying further delays and saw on website that it was sold out!!!. so sent them email to send it or give refund after cancelling order. they replied with email saying order cancelled and that was nearly 2 weeks ago and yet to get refund. so have raised a claim at paypal and those scumbags havent yet responded to paypal claim and 8 days now since i have escalated this to a claim at paypal and mobilefun havent yet bothered to reply to my paypal claim. if dont get my refund will escalate it to fraud complaint with my credit card issuer against mobilefun. paid via credit card via paypal to mobilefun website in early october. just mentioning this here so that other people dont get scammed like i have been at mobilefun.

Thanks for your videos. I love wireless charging but on the note 3 it's been a bittersweet scenario...got the oem samsung charging back but there are no cases that fit that (at least that I've found) so I'm stuck choosing between a case and wireless at the moment. Your thread has given me some hope though about the possibility of using the original back with an insert that actually works and still be able to fit a case.
One question - does the phone with insert in & case on "rock" when it's on a flat surface? For example, when you have it flat on a desk/table/etc and you hit the home button on the note - does it "rock" toward you and then back after lifting your finger? This is so annoying to me and I wake the device with the home key a lot at work...it'd probably be a deal-breaker for me, but if you can share your insight I might avoid another bit of money wasted.
Thanks!

Note 3 supports Wireless charging as did the Note 2.
Wireless charging is a MUST for me as I have many devices and im getting sick of plugging in wires.
Looks like Samsung is introducing the extremely expensive "official" wireless charging setup,
But we will also have options such as QI in which you can buy just the reciever and stick it under any cover you like.
Lets see what options we have here and compare.
Any word if VZN is gonna mess it up like on the Note 2? Not sure they'd have enough time to tho.

They removed the charging pins and covered it up with plastic (u'd have to drill holes then use copper wiring if u wanted it)
That is rather stupid of them, its an accessory they can sell but of course it's Verizon and they are always NOT looking out for the customer.
okay, so what all is this going to entail for me? I'm not really familiar with wireless charging on samsung devices, as far as I know it's 'pseudo-supported' but not out of the box, is that right? I'm coming from a nexus 4 and I have a few Qi chargers around the house that I'd really like to work with my Note 3...what do I have to do to accomplish that task?

On the Nexus 4/Droid Maxx its built in while on the Note 2/S4 that leave the pins so you can buy the Qi receiver (Samsung has their own back), there is the slim possibility that Samsung has it built in but unlikely.

I asked Verizon in chat and they gave me a pretty straight forward answer
"You: will Verizon block the Wireless charging capabilities of the Note 3 as they did with the note 2. (ability to add the wireless charging back to it)
Lonnie: No, they wont.
You: so the note 3 will have wireless charging with the added accessory?
Lonnie: Yes."

Here is what I got from them
"Hello sbduce;
There will be a wireless charging door (Qi standard) for the Samsung Note 3 soon after it launches. The door will available for online ordering at www.verizonwireless.com.
Thank you for posting your question!"
I have trust issues with Verizon though so I am not sure if I believe this just yet. Going to wait and see what else comes to light this month.
I'm not a fan of spending $100 for the Samsung unit which requires putting a thicker back cover on my phone. WiQiQi made these for the Note 2, S3 and S4. Uses the original back cover by inserting a thin film with the charging coils under the cover and on top of the battery. I've never seen one of these but I hope they make one for the Note 3 soon. I don't know if the Note 2 unit would work since the battery pins have to line up and the Note 3 has a bigger battery. It's about half the price, uses the original cover, and should work with other charging pads such as the LG puck.

Can't imagine why they wouldn't. The aftermarket for the GN3 should be pretty good. I'm sure it is just some tooling to change the receiver to fit the new model. The base would not change
I wish the regular Flip Wallet Case had wireless charging :- / I don't like the S-View Cover Wireless because of more surfaces to keep clean and I enjoy the privacy the regular Flip offers (you can use it as a half opened book so that your neighbors can't see what you're watching.

I think you are right. I'll keep an eye out for those. The S3, S4, and Note 2 units were originally on Indiegogo before they started shipping
I bought the little white wireless charging pack that goes inside the S4. Loved it. Wonder if the same pack will work for Note 3.

My only issue is I often will want to be performing battery intensive tasks while inductive charging. As I have experienced from my old palm touchstone mod with an output of .5amp on my GS3 just having pandora running in the background led to a charge deficit. I only hope that inductive charging VERY soon supports 2+amp or I will never be able to turn that beast of a screen on for long and hope for a charge.

Samsung has released pictures of a flip cover with wireless charging built in.
I'm more concerned about the non-flip cover with wireless. Adding the receiver coil to the back increases the thickness of the back. On the S4 that means most cases won't fit with the OEM wireless charging cover. Using a third party Qi adapter inside the standard back causes a slight bulge that also interferes with fit of many hard cases because there isn't enough room inside the cover.
I think the S3 and Note 2 may have had a little more spare room inside than the S4. Because of the designers pushing for ever thinner phones we'll probably have the same sort of issue with the Note 3.
Slightly off-topic, I have the OEM Qi charging back cover for the S4 and I like the way it protects the camera. The standard back lets the camera lens touch the table when you lay it down, and I got a minor scratch in the first few minutes I had my S4. Once I changes to the Qi charging back the camera was recessed just enough for protection.

Hey guys,
I am new to wireless charging and one of my colleague talks highly positive of the concept. Specially when at night, how easy it is to pick up the phone from the charging pad, surf for a while and put it back without the hassle of looking for the wire and plugging into the ports.
I have a note 3.. and planning to go for a sgp neo hybrid case.. will i be able to make use of the charging pad along with the neo hybrid case. I do understand that a custom case cover is needed for using the wireless charging kit.. which is provided by samsung for S4. but i think they still havent come up for N3.
Anyhow i've seen on various youtube videos that many a times third party cases also work with wirelss charging without the mod/hack. Anyone tried neo hybrid for n3 with their charging pads?
I have tested this with 3 different cases except the Spigen because I haven't received it yet but I don't think that this case will be the exception

Thanks for your reply, but what was the outcome? were u able to charge with the third party cases? Are the charging times same.. slower or faster.
With Samsung charging kit that includes the back cover and the pad, they claim that the charging is faster than conventional charging cos it charges at 600MAh's.
M8 QI has sensor at least my pad has so if it beeps and light goes green in pad no matter if I have the phone naked or in a case it charges with 640ma this charge my phone in 4 to 5 hours which occurs every night and I am fine. Imagine that I had put a plastic cap in bottom of phone to have the usb3 plug clean from dust.

The 45 degree needs inside the back cover I think 4 metal things and the base has magnets and that's how it stands. That's just your standard Qi charging pad. Won't work with your N3 unless you have the 'official' Samsung charging back plate, or you modify a receiver between your stock back plate, and battery.
In my experience,
With the samsung charging back plate, none of the standard N3 cases will fit on the phone anymore. It's because the back plate is thicker than the stock one.
With a receiver installed between the stock back plate and battery, it will bulge out. I don't like that either.

Yes, the samsung wireless charging cover is thicker. Will add 2mm, therefore, all your cases won't fit. Including the Neo Hybrid.
You can get receiver that goes between the battery and cover, but from my experience, it makes the rear cover bulge a bit.

1) Samsung has a wireless charging back (wireless receiver built-in) that replaces the battery cover/back already on the phone.
It makes the phone too thick for a case (a bumper might work).
2) They also make a S-view flip cover that replaces the stock back and has the wireless receiver built-in, no additional case needed.
3) Aftermarket Qi receivers can be purchased on Amazon and eBay that are placed inside the stock back cover, and if they don't cause a significant bulge in the back you can use a normal case, but one with a TPU or silicone back is most likely to work.
4) If you have a Qi receiver from a Note 2 (or similar) you can modify it to work inside the stock back cover.
ALL of those methods will require a Qi transmitter, or charging pad.
At least one seller on Amazon is offering a kit with both the Qi insert & charging pad, about $30 when I last looked.

Yes, the samsung wireless charging cover is thicker. Will add 2mm, therefore, all your cases won't fit. Including the Neo Hybrid.
You can get receiver that goes between the battery and cover, but from my experience, it makes the rear cover bulge a bit.

Looks like these recievers can be easily inserted into the back cover.. anyone tried it yet? or whats your opinion about this?
Adding the official samsung back cover with 2mm is not a big issue, but i dont wan to loose the phone protection without a neo hybrid.

I was looking at the video again, it doesnt look like attaching the receiver on your original cover has added any bulk or thickness right? Do you think it will fit the neo hybrid case.
Amazon has these receivers for 10 bucks or so.. i was planning to get one of these receivers and then get the TYLT pad for charging.. I was reading reviews accross various forums, and people are having high opinions about TYLT's features.

The cheap one may have been from eBay, or it's gone up.
Best price I see for a kit now is $48, http://www.amazon.com/Standard-Wire..._1_3?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1382047175&sr=1-3
There is a $10 qi insert:
http://www.amazon.com/Docooler-Stan...1382048041&sr=1-19&keywords=note+3+qi+charger
plus a $20 charging pad:
http://www.amazon.com/DigiYes®-Stan...1382048041&sr=1-23&keywords=note+3+qi+charger
By the way, I ordered an insert from that seller, it said "in stock" but the expected delivery time was 24 to 43 days once I got the order in. It does seem like you should know that before ordering.

Thanks for that info, i was about to place an order with that seller.. why wait for over a month when you can get the same from a US seller for the same price.
I was wondering if the receiver for Note 2 will work on the Note 3.
Many a US sellers are selling the recievers for Note 2.

Hey everyone,
Just received my Air Dock in the mail and I've had mixed results using my Galaxy Note 3 with it. So rather than buying more cases and QI adapters, throwing stuff at the wall hoping something sticks, I thought we could all band together to find the best setup. This should be a thread for people to post their experiences and post links to the cases and wireless charging adapters they are using with the Air Dock and their GN3.
For those of you unfamiliar with the Air Dock, it's a new Indiegogo backed vehicle mount that employs nano-suction and QI wireless charging. It essentially uses a bunch of tiny suction cups (and some magnets apparently) to bond to your phone with out needing any kinds of harnesses or clips. The only issue seems to be that this tech requires some specific stuff to function well. The back of the phone needs to be high gloss plastic for it to stick well and it can't be too thick (i think .8mm is the max for it to still charge). For phones with matte backs (like the Nexus 5) magnets are an option.
Here is the link to the website and plenty of videos and pictures for those who don't know about it: TheAirDock.com
Ok, so I'll start with my setup and experience and hopefully others will follow along to find the best combination of accessories to get the most out of this dock.
Phone: Black Galaxy Note 3 (Verizon)
-I tried it on the dock with no case and while it holds, I'm not very confident in it. I think it may be the texture of the soft touch back. Also there seems to be magnets in it, which I'm not sure there were supposed to be but they are responding to something in the phone
Case: Black Cruzerlite Hybrid Case for Samsung Galaxy Note 3
-Same deal, it sticks to it but it's not inspiring confidence. It's not a high gloss back, so that's probably the issue (bought it well before the Air Dock). The dock also comes with a magnet sticker to place between the case and phone, and that helps but I haven't been able to get it to register a charge at all with the case on.
QI adapter: Wireless Qi Power Receiver Car Charger NFC For Samsung Note 3 N9000 N9005 BC279
-I think this is the part that has created the biggest issue. It's only ever recognized the charger a handful of times, with and without the back cover on. And even when it recognizes it, it just flashes the "now wireless charging" dealy and then goes back to discharging immediately. I know that the adapter works because it charges fine on my desktop QI charging pad.
It holds GN3 securely?

Not exactly. If i put it on there with no case and like 15 degrees of back lean it holds decently. The backplate isn't as glossy as it needs to be to hold securely though. It's capable of it, they've shown it holding the various Nexus tablets.
That's kind of what this thread is about, trying to find out the best combination of accessories to make this thing work correctly.

i'm still waiting on my airdock, but regarding the QI receiver insert charging/discharging deal, have you tried to rotate the airdock 90 degrees? I've ran across QI chargers where orientation matters.

Hmm. I think that's worth a shot. The dock is weird in that the ball joint faces a specific direction, which is different than the prototypes I saw. And if what you say is true, mounting it on the windshield would make the dock upside down. I'll give that a go when I go to my car in the AM.

an easier way is to not move the dock, and just rotate your phone 90 degrees (vertical vs. horizontal), and see if that helps with the wireless charging.

The receiver you have is not a very good one, its rather weak, i had to add another ferrite or flexi magnet to it so that most of my other transmitter can detect it, but if nfc is a must, you have no choice.

Would also like to report back on the docks performance today. I had my phone on it (in the case) all day with just a small amount of back lean. It held strong on the drive to and from bwork. I also went for some drinks after work and it held strong to and from along a fairly bumpy road. I still want to find a glossy back case but my confidence is growing in the nano suction as is.
I also wanted to report that I put my old Galaxy S1 in it (only phone I have with a glossy back) and it held just like it does in the videos.

Hi Guys,
Just to know if I'm the only one experiencing difficulties with my airdock :
I received my items 2 days ago (I have 2 as a friend also ordered one) and test them with 2 Nexus 4 :
Concerning the suction, it's definitily very very good with the N4 and no case, clearly, no risk to have the phone fall while driving !
So, that was the good news ...
The bad one is that the charging is very unreliable on both airdock pads, but with differents effects :
On the first one, it's very difficult for it to be seen charging by the phone, but when it does, it work for several minutes ... and stop working without apparent reasons ...
On the second one, I experiment the same kind of symptoms as described in the first post : the wireless charging is only seen by the phone for something like 1/2s, and then it's off ...
That's quite a disppointment as otherwise, it holds the phone just fine in the car and I found it very convenient. I hope I was just unlucky with mines, or maybe they suffer from transport (the package shows no evidence of it yet ...).
I contacted Greg, the guy from theAirdock.com to have his advices on the matter, but no answer so far ... I was wondering if I'm the only experimenting those issues ?

You're not the only one, I had similar issues with my Note 3 (actually why I started this thread). I ended up contacting Greg as well and he recommended I purchase a Qi adapter from their site, which did make it function much more reliably. It's acceptable in my opinion at this point but I'm still not 100% sure it's going to charge or stay charging anytime I set it on the AirDock.
Bad news is, my solution isn't really an option with the N4 since (i believe) the wireless charging is built in. I do believe that the Qi charger in the AirDock is generally weak though since I tried about 3 different Qi adapters before finally buying the one from the AirDock site that worked. Otherwise it would do exactly what yours is doing (got both of the things you described with different adapters). I would say try to exchange your docks.
Something that works for me sometimes if it doesn't start charging right away is to unplug the USB cable from the lighter socket side and plug it back in. Also be sure that you are plugged into the 2.1A socket that it comes with, as i found it won't work with the standard 1A plugs most people have laying around.
I really love the concept of the AirDock and I'm glad I backed it but the build quality is certainly suspect. Mine is starting to fall apart after only a few months (the suction pad part is starting to separate from the housing, i can only assume because of how the phone has to be pulled to remove). I think this is par for the course with beta hardware though. Fortunately, customer service was very accommodating in my experience. Hope you're as fortunate.
Yep, actually, I found the thread on the N5 forum after I put my post here. And there indeed seems to be a few complaints with it
I had ne feedback from Greg sincemy email yesterday, but I figure they may be quite busy those days as many people seems to be receiving them.
Well, I hope he will provide a solution, because, for one of the two, with the same symptoms as yours, I can believe it's a problem with positionning, but for the other, the phone start charging for a few minutes and, without it moving, stops ... To me it sounds more like a loose contact somewhere inside the airdock ...
Well, wait'n see, they say ...
I will keep you posted of Greg's answer ..
Any word on how this works with the Note 3's stock "leather" textured back? Is a case required for it to stay?
Also, has anybody tried it with the Samsung brand wireless charger cover? The Air Dock website suggests that the Samsung brand cover is the best wireless charger receiver available; even better than the ones that Air Dock sells.
do you use the Magnetic Sticker?
For the original poster, how did things work out for you in the end? I have a Nexus 5 and it works extremely well with the AirDock because of the smooth back and also because of the magnets. I'm thinking of going to the Note 4. On the AirDock site it does say the textured back of the Note may not stick too well so they recommend using the magnetic sticker. I have one that come with my AirDock and can't imagine putting that on the back of the phone case. I expect it would be pretty damn ugly.

I thought for sure I had already posted this response. I ended up getting an AirDock and the OEM Samsung Wireless charging cover for my Note 3. It's been a good setup. I'm not using the ugly sticker. The magnets in the AirDock seem to hold on to some metal in the wireless cover. It isn't as good as a smooth backed device, but it works for the most part. I'm glad I bought it.
That's good to know. Thanks for replying. One way to get a smoother back and increase the adhesion on the AirDock while avoiding the thickness of a case is to get a vinyl wrap although I'm not sure how they would go with the Samsung wireless back since it looks like the shape especially around the camera is slightly different. I have a D-Brand skin on my Nexus 5 and I really love it and it makes the back even smoother. I just got a Note 4 yesterday and have ordered a third-party Qi receiver coil so I'll see how that goes first. Looks like SlickWraps has some nice vinyl skins for the Note 3 and 4.
Also want to report that yesterday I tried my Note 4 with the AirDock using the standard back. At first it did not adhere at all. However I noticed that surface of my AirDock charging pad was pretty dusty. For my Nexus 5 I had been relying mostly on the magnets to hold the phone there. So I cleaned the AirDock with a bit of water as they recommend and the Note 4 holds very securely now. I think if I add a vinyl skin or a very thin case I think it would be even more secure.

If you don't mind the mini bulge you only notice because you put it on yourself BUT i think they make special cases if you do not like it.
I don't mind it, I like to think it holds it in place. I do recomend the QI wireless charger (KoolPad). People have had reports of heating up but I have not an issue with it since I have bought it. I bought 2, one for work and one for home!
I also like it because it prevents the wear and tear of opening and closing of the bottom tab.

I haven't used the charging back case yet. I hear it is slightly bigger than the stock case. I ordered the QI pwd card and fits fine with the stock case. A little bit of a bulge hardly noticeable only to the person who owns the phone because you can feel it. it doesn't bother me because i like to think it keeps it in place and to be honest, i haven't had any issues. I will buy the case soon. maybe once the pad wears out

For wireless charging how does this exactly work?
It works by induction. You need a special charging station (read: a square box that is resting on your nightstand from now on), where you can put your phone on. You don't have to fiddle with plugs.
The charging station works with a standard USB connection and for your phone you need the above mentioned back cover, with is a complete replacement for the existing backplate. The special back cover contains all the electronics and contact pins to connect with the phones battery.

Of course, they have to place the coil somewhere, it's just a sacrifice you have to make for having the convenience. Also most flexable rubber/silicone cases do work because they stretch (I just prefer to go without them for the sake of ruining the design of the phone).
It should be arriving here by end of week and I'll be sure to take a few pics for you guys.
FYI, I have purchased a wireless charging back for every single Samsung device I have ever owned so I have plenty of experience (S3, S4, Note 3, and currently S5)
I was running the wireless charging back on my LG G3 so I have some experience as well. That back only added 1 millimeter to the thickness...I measured it. Just better design. I have the alpha and I'm currently testing next to the iPhone 6. Liking both phones alot. Need to test battery life

The most disappointing thing about the wireless charging back cover, other than its extra thickness which makes it less flush, is on the standard cover, the SAMSUNG logo is shiny and embossed, giving the same effect as the metallic edging. On the wireless charging cover, its matte and flat like a cheap tacky plastic print. Not at all in-keeping with the quality of the rest of the phone.

Hmm this is quite strange, usually Samsung does not cheap out on those wireless charging back covers and try to make it as identical to original as possible (at least on all the models I've used them on). Perhaps they didn't spend as much into this one due to the lack of popularity/demand for this device. Still surprises me though, it should cost cheaper in that case as well.
@jerflash: Actually on the S5 the gain in thickness is almost not noticeable. My dad uses one and switched backcovers and you don't see it.
Inductive coils are super thin copperwires that need next to no room for themselves.
I bought one of these for my note 3 and even though it did give it some weight and thickness, the battery cover was thick enough that the camera lens would not come in contact when places on a flat surface which was nice.

On the wireless charging cover, its matte and flat like a cheap tacky plastic print. Not at all in-keeping with the quality of the rest of the phone.

That is the wireless charging cover of the Alpha right? Can you tell me if it has magnets in it for alignment? I'm trying to build a car dock with magnetic attachment like the Nexus 5 and wonder if this cover for the Alpha would let me do that.

I am. As far as am aware there are no magnets in the cover but a metal plate is there.

And it works? I emailed Samsung and they told me there are no qi chafgers that work with the Alpha. If youre saying it works I might actually buy it and build a magnetic charger for it so I can dock in my car. Thanks!
They also confirmed thr Alpha has OIS.

It definitely works (using it daily at work) so whoever you talked to has no idea what they're talking about. Wouldn't be the first time honestly.
That wireless charging cover looks super ugly and so doesn't fit the amazing design of the rest of the pone. Not sure what Samsung was thinking when making such a poor looking charging cover.

Thay confirmed OIS,i try to find out anywhere this info but I only find in one US site nowhere else
is it possable that Alpha has OIS
Can you shere this info with us m8
Could you please tell me whether the extra thickness of the cover makes it impossible to fit a case over it? I have in mind a flip case.
Samsung do not yet list a wireless charging back on their web site for the Galaxy Alpha. I wonder if this is a picture of the back for the bigger battery.
I got my official wireless charging back. Unfortunately, it does make the phone slightly thicker which means cases are not going to fit over it. I tried a cheap plastic soft case which I thought would stretch enough to fit but it didn't. So I had better not drop my phone.....
Otherwise, the wireless charging works fine with a Nokia DT desktop charger.
