A flagship android that doesn't overheat? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey xda members!
I have been a long time android user and had quite a few devices : htc leo(android), htc desire, htc desire z,galaxy s 2.
I decided after the s2 to take a hop and go to iphone 5.it works, but i am not crazy about it.always a function seems to be missing and itunes is a major pain.
So i decide i should sell the i5 and get back on the android horse.
Problem is, all current android flagship devices overheat like mad.
i have used gs4,htc one, htc g pro, xperia z1 on stores and from friends and with just 30 minutes of normal usage they go up to 40+ degrees (celsius) for no good reason.heat is incredibly bad for mobile devices and causes all sorts of damage.
So my question is :
Is there an android flagship atm that doesn't overheat like that?
(preferably not sony, using a TFT screen on year 2013 is plain ridiculous, even Z1 triluminos sucks)

Try with Nexus 5 or LG G2

galaxy grand doesnt heat up even during hd gaming

i can see that both of these are using snapdragon 800...could this be the common denominator? e.g, would the gs4 variant with snapdragon 800 overheat?

[Q] Should I buy Optimus One P500

Hello friends!
I have to buy a new phone with Android 2.2. I saw this phone and found it to be pretty reasonable. Problem is that none of the dealers here are ready to give a demo of the phone and I dont know how does the display looks, the quality of the touch screen and the speed of the phone.
I had been using Samsung Galaxy 3 before this and got really pissed off with its speed, although the touch screen and the screen colors were very good.
Can anyone tell me how does the phone behave. Moreover, some one told me that the touch screen of this phone doesnt behave like the Samsung phones. Unlike Samsung touch screen in which we just need to give a slight touch for the phone to react, in this phone we have to press slightly. Is it true?
Please help.

Yea its a liitle bit true about touch but with me it happned only in apps when i tried to make my fingers fly over the phone.
A little advice buy lg optimus Q becasue its better!
Why don't you watch review videos on YouTube to get an idea of the device? Optimus One is my first Android phone, and I really love it. Have had it for about a month now, but still can't stop showing people what it can do, and playing with it all the time till the battery drains out LOL. For the price, it's a really good device, compared to others like xperia, or htc (from the same price range).

How much will Optimus Q cost in India???
How about browsing your local stores mate?
There are some slight issues with O1 , some of them being fixed by mik and caveman's work. Also Noejn and Paolo , the authors of the best ROMS , at least in my opinion , hold title to : Void(best overall ) , Prime(stability ) , Megatron( best performance ) and Paolo's LOL rom which is the only one to cook a 2.2.2 version of android .
Also the phone has officially received Android 2.2.2 recently and will receive pretty soon Gingerbread .
So if you're in doubt about the support and popularity that such a budget received then stay assured that you have nothing to worry .
Cost is exactly same as galaxy 3

it will cost around 15k or rs 15,ooo in india.
but if u r low on budget then p500 is best choice i have it for a month and cannot let even anyone else touch it!!!!!!!!
Samsung doesn't give more than 256 MB ram on its non flagship phones. P500 has 512. Only this feature is enough for you to make a choice.
Samsung is playing a very dirty game by restricting the ram of all its newly launched non-luxury phones. I7500 died only due to ram. Spica is taking its last breaths.

are you sure they uses Qualcomm processor? i think they use Samsung's inhouse SOCs. but i think that can be tested by overclocking the chips to 760-800Mhz.

not really worth the extra 3.5k INR. you are getting just a bigger screen, better & usable camera. what you loose are: better screen (cause both uses same resolution), ram, battery life, weight.
if you use the camera lot & ok with less battery life, go for Ace. but Optimus One still has lot of life left. also i doubt Ace will ever taste official Gingerbread.

one of my friend took it for only 5 mins he couldn't leave it!!
I personally will never buy another Samsung phone again. Maybe Android, but even then I'd be very careful... From my experience their software is buggy, and they don't update it either. It makes no difference if the model is 200 euros or 400 euros, you'll get one or two updates until your model is old already.

Are you sure that Optimus has 512 MB RAM because if it has, thats some thing to go for. Moreover, can some one please tell me the colour quality and touch screen quality of LG. As per the specks of the phone, Optimus has only 256K colour while all other phones these days has 16M colours. As for the touchscreen, do we really have to press a little for the screen to react. Moreover, does a Optimus have a QVGA or a HVGA screen type??
It has 512 MB RAM and HVGA res. Why do you call 256k ONLY ? It's enough, 16M is crap, you cannot see the difference between them. (don't get me wrong, but I would not pay more for the same image/clarity/brightness on a TFT/LCD panel; AMOLED is something else)
Any idea as to when will any of the below mentioned models be launched in India and whats going to be an approx price:
LG Optimus 2X SU660
LG Optimus 3D P920
LG P990 Optimus Speed
LG Optimus Black
LG Optimus Mach LU3000
hey wait a little bit and buy a samsung galaxy gio!

[Q] Should I go back to Samsung?

Hi there,
I recently owned many Samsung devices shown in my sig, but I moved to HTC One X because I wanted to try something new.
Is it a worthy upgrade to move to the LTE variant of the S3 with 2GB RAM and Quad core Exynos chip?
Sorry if this question has been asked before, I just need to make a quick decision within a few hours.
Thanks
Nicholas

Hi Nicholas,
I had a HTC Desire then Samsung Galaxy SII and my current phone is the SIII. Its the international version as I'm in the UK but for me the battery and micro SD card are what sold the SIII to me. It would help to know why you want to switch as even though I chose the SIII the HTC One X is still a capable device. Do you use the stock experience or a custom ROM? I really hate HTC nonsense, more than Samsung Whiz. If I were you I'd flash a nice ROM on the HTC and wait for the SIIII. Seriously the Tegra 3 is capable I love it on this Nexus 7. Just better without HTCs alterations... if that's what annoy you about it.

Yeah I really love the expandable memory in the phone, the battery is no biggie for me as the One X can handle a day of standby and just drop 20%. I run a custom ROM.
The stock and custom ROM experience doesn't really make a difference for me. The Sense interface is extremely laggy and I constantly drop calls because for some reason the other party can't hear me properly. The Tegra3 is indeed great, but if I need to run T3 apps I'll be like you and just run it on my Nexus 7.
I grew extremely frustrated at my One X as I had many hardware problems such as screen creaks, as well as the constant deep sleeps it jumps into where I can't wake my phone up, calls can't be picked up and alarms can't be dismissed. I jumped from S2 but I really miss it as it was a more rigid and stable experience in my opinion.
The thing that got me looking into the S3LTE were the Note II specs in your hand, 2GB RAM and Quad core Exynos chip. It's great.

Mmm Nexus 7. I did like the SII... it was great and although I like the SIII I should have waited for the Note II I think. Don't get me wrong the SIII is excellent. The Exynos chip is fantastic btw. I find it very responsive. 1GB ram is enough, I use the SuperNexus ROM.
My family and friends with HTC handsets have has nothing but reliability issues like what you experience but also in hardware. My girlfriend had a Legend and it was plagued by battery problems. My sister has a Desire HD plagued by battery issues and it had lpudspeaker and volume button issues. Its been in for repair three times. I tried the One X and also found it to be less premium than the SIII even though it physically looks as though it would be stronger lol.
So what's the decision?

IMO, the Note II is a little too big as I need my phone with me at all times. The Note II is indeed a great phone, but as I always run around dealing with things, the massiveness will cause it to keep swinging left and right, damaging the phone. Basically anything under 5" is acceptable.
I went to get my phone repaired more than 10 times. I even have a post here on XDA explaining my stories haha.
I guess I'll choose to get it then

Wow that's awful lol. Oh yeah my mums HTC Wildfires battery has died. The volume rocker on my now defunct Desire has lost volume rocker functionality. It was good while it lasted though. Good luck with the new phone. Hope it doesn't spend so much time being repaired so far none of my Samsung devices have had issues.

Sold my S3 and now looking for an upgrade

Hi guys, I just sold my S3 LTE , as I cracked the screen and didn't want to repair it. I was looking for upgrade before that, so now the time has come.
I need a device that is a bit more rugged, not necessarily waterproof and so on... I read that the S4 is even more fragile though.
Anyway. I'd really love a high end device, so I don't have to upgrade it for the next 2 years.
I don't play games but do a lot of browsing, emailing and other work related stuff. I have good cameras so the camera on the phone just needs to be OK, but It should bebetter than the S3. I'm now using an iphone 5 and while it's a marelously well build and fast, I'm not quite sure I could deal with it's quirks. I've been on Android for almost 6 years, so you get what I mean.
I'm looking at :
LG G2 16GB
LG Nexus 5 16GB
Galaxy S4
Huaiwei Ascend P6
HTC ONE
Anything else you might recommend, except for Sony...

LG G2 - Very Good Choice
Nexus 5 - Awesome (but not the best camera)
S4 - Sucks
P6 - Friend has it, not bad, but battery life is terrible
HTC One - Awesome.
Also, look into the Xperia Z2, another good option for you.
Personally, i'd go with the new HTC one.

I really like the One too, but can you give some more details why would you choose it. And with the new model just around the corner - I'm no sure. I'm interested in the N5 too, bu tI'm put off by the small-ish battery
Friend of mine has the current One, played with it quite a bit. Its just everything i would want in a phone. Its really well made, fits very comfortably in your hand. I'm a fan of IPS LCD over AMOLED. Operations are much smoother and faster than Samsung. Blinkfeed is awesome (for me personally) and you have all the freedom of Android with a very good display incased in a very good body. Also i dont really need crap like airwave and air gesture, in fact, since 4.3 my smart stay barely works.
The One is just my personal choice, i think its the most balance between design, UI and performance. LG G2 isnt far behind. If you going to go with the One, u might as well wait for the new one. If you dont plan to get the new one, i'd probably go the G2 over the Old 1. The Snapdragon 800 will last u much longer than the 600 in the One (2013 edition) The G2 has IPS LCD as well and is very very fast. Only thing lacking is the aluminum body and blinkfeed. Also LG has a pretty good multi-tasking interface, it opens small windows of apps. I suggest you Check out YouTube for the G2.
Depending on how much you want to wait, you should definitely also consider the oppo find 7. This phone's a beauty in my eyes. Specs are great too.
Another interesting phone is the oneplus one with cm. Its going to be 5.5inch with the size of a 5 inch sony z1, qualcomm s800 and its supposed to cost less than 400$. Too bad that there arent any real pics yet and the release is going to be somewhere in Q2 of 2014. So, it can be 1 month or almost 3 :<

I'm not buying a Sony, that's for sure. The htc one is another thing, but I'm afraid it will be quite expensive at launch, at least that's the way it is where I live. The way I see things is I have two options - get the G2 now or wait for the M8, hoping it won't be THAT expensive

Why does galaxy s4 sucks ? Although I do agree the design is same and somewhat boring especially when upgrading from s3 but its a practical design. For me, its best choice among the given choices, especially if you can get the qualcomm version, as its google play device so you have option to seamlessly put aosp roms. That negates the N5 advantage as it is..
For LG G2 and Nexus 5, you have limitation of fixed storage, do remember on 16GB devices you get only about 11GB of usable space. Also camera and battery on nexus 5 will be a downgrade for you coming from s3. HTC one although awesome design but has ultrapixel camera which didn't do very well and again a restricted memory.

The only reason I'm not sure I want the S4 is that it's deemed even more fragile than the S3. It's slower chipset is also a bit of a disadvantage.
I can get the qualcomm version, so yes - vanilla OS is possible.
As for the G2 - it's awesome and I don't think storage will be that much of an issue. The HTC one is also an option, but the same as S4 - slower chiset and I hera the camera just sucks, but I have a DSLR and a mirrorless camera so I'm not going to expect much from a phone camera anyway. I'm using the iphone 5 now and while typing on it is a real pain, the size is really nice refresh fromthe huge slate the S3 was. I really miss the huge screen though.
The whole thing is quite complicated, as my wife has the RAZR I, but wants an Iphone, so I got one to test it out while waiting for my next android, and I actually like it a lot but the battery is basically on par with the S3, but the screen.... it's so small. It's superior when it comes to actally using it as a phone.
Which one of these handsets is most durable when dropped? I think the g2 would have a bad time due to edge to edge design.

iphone 5s for durability.
For me:
1-Note 3
2-Sony Z2
3-Iphone 5s
4-S4
This year I am leaving my S3 also and this is the list of devices I am targeting of buying from !!
I will get one of these bad boys --->
1. Note 3 (appealing in every aspect)
2. HTC ONE 2014 (has microSD card support)
3. Xperia Z2 (Sony really stepping up their game)
4. iPhone 6 (a really good phone for basic telephony)

I recommend nexus & S4 from the point of view of a good battery and high specs and features, Also the nexus 5 has good feature which is wireless charging, The S4 has higher features than the nexus as usual samsung strikes with stunning technology.

I am getting a new phone in two months. Got an S3 now. This is my top choices :
1. Note 3
2. Xperia Z2
3 HTC one (2014)
4. S5
Very difficult to choose
I'm between n5 s4 and g2 for now...

i know a few people with S4's, both versions. They both completely suck. In all honesty, the design isnt that bad, it looks very similar to the s3 but the feeling is alot better. However, Samsungs OS skin just down right fails. The ui is laggy, and please dont say theres no lag. i dont know how people dont notice this crap. The UI lags. Maybe the galaxy s4 google play edition, is a viable option.
There is literally nothing that the S4 has over its competitors. If you compare it to the HTC one (2013), then really, the One beats it hands down. You really dont need crap like the air wave.
SGH-m819n galaxy mega running the megafire v5 rom. Ive had two people literally sell their note3 after seeing how big and fast my phone is. 60 dollar truly unlimited unthrottled LTE data on tmobiles network though metro is a pretty nice perk, too.

Yeah it's too bad about the alpha but it seems right now people want 5 inch screens so it loses out on that. I would recommend the S5 or HTC one m8, both have great dev support. But the best idea is to wait for spring/summer when the S6 and the new HTC is released

Since quite a lots of android users switched-to/switched-back Iphone now because of 4.7"/5.5" Iphone launched. You really don't expect any android discussion board will be as busy as in the old age, the time has gone. Another major reason is nowadays people slowly upgrade their smartphone because hardware is started to mature. When you look on XDA, you will know many new phones development board isn't that active now.
I'm now with Z1 Compact and also thinking to upgrade to Z3 Compact or Alpha or S6(if it manage to smaller than S5 in size a bit) in around March/April. I think mostly I will pick Z3c or Alpha because I believe S6 would be too expensive to me and excess my budget but I will put an eye on it. Z4/Z4c/Z4U is almost sure to hit a big delay now, they will all announce only on May/June sometimes. So, I decided to don't wait them now.
If you like Alpha, just go get it. It is a rare Samsung phone though almost no development here but the phone itself is very capable without any support. If you want a little bit bigger community and need a microSD slot, then pick Z3c.

Switching to Iphone from more matured system? Iphone was good and impressive like 3 generations ago when android wasn't so matured system, nowdays I don't see a reason for people who own for example a S4 to switch to Iphone.
The latter part is very true, a 100€ phone can handle basically anything that basic user throws at it. And the devs and other people who can get more out of their current older phones trough custom roms, don't really have reasons for upgrade.

You gonna search more information. Iphone market share worldwide is same with Samsung in 2014 Q4 and already excess Samsung now in 2015 Q1 so Apple is the No.1 smartphone company again now.
System-wise is always Android better but since Iphone borrowed more and more functions from Android in every generation OS, the gap in different will just become smaller in long run. But on the other hand, Iphone still owns the most best apps and even both platform got the same one, IOS one usually performs better.

Only G3 or S5 or M8 have active development I can name(Z3/Z3c isn't active coz most people still using Z1/Z1c/Z2) but M8 camera is really suck I don't suggest it. And you don't like plastic samsung so no S5 I think, only G3 leave.
S6 will use Exynos and no S810, this time S6 development should not be very active as well because Exynos is harder to support. G4 will also hit a big delay becoz GFlex2 will out first on March/April, G4 won't appear until May/June much like Z4.
I feel bad right now cus im hoping to see alot of roms for this great device but i guese i was wrong.Im not upset or anything but this is why we buy android phones instead of iphone we need to change to somthing new

[Q]What smaller Android phone should I get my wife?

She has an iPhone 5c and it sucks, and she doesn't like how big the iPhone 6 is. So I am looking at getting her something with a smaller form factor. I have researched the Galaxy Alpha and the HTC One Remix, but I have only ever held the Galaxy Alpha. She has zero patience for devices that are laggy (not sure how she manages with the stupid iPhone 5c then), so I need to find something that is a bit powerful. She had an Galaxy S4 before and hated it, so I need to deliver this time (she hated its size). Any suggestions would be helpful!

Give her a 2gen Motorola Moto E, it includes stock Android Lollipop so I don't think it gets laggy :good:

Powerful hardware with a small size? That's going to be very difficult, as no company makes small high-end devices. It's all 4.9" and above if you want good hardware. The S4 is 5".
The Alpha is 4.7" and was created as a direct competitor to the iPhone. Hence it has lower hardware specs, somewhere between mid-range and flagship. It's fairly fast, but it's no Nexus6/Note4.
Don't bother with any of the Galaxy S Mini devices, they're all terrible. Sluggish, laggy and horrible drain.
The Alpha is probably your best bet in terms of hardware vs size. (Be sure to replace touchwiz with Apex or Nova and turn off animations to speed it up, too.)

I forgot to mention that I've also tried some of the minis, and they are trash. My co worker had one and had to sell it because it was so terrible. Thanks for the reply.
2013 Moto X
Sony Xperia Z1 Compact
Sony Xperia Z3 Compact
What about Samsung Galaxy Note 3? I think it is powerful and fine.

The Note 3 isn't quite as big as a dump truck or a Frigidaire or Kanye West's ego, but I don't think that's quite what the OP means by "smaller Android phone".
Another vote for Moto E.

The 5" S4 was too big. I suspect the 5.7" Note 3 is slightly over the size limit...

Then best is yureka..with lowest price n good configuration
Mod edit: Link removed
Moto G 2013 with 4G should be good
I think that the best one would be the Xperia Z3 Compact. It's not as thrashy as the minis . Specifications:
4.6" HD screen
2GB RAM
Quad-Core 2.5GHZ CPU
Lollipop update soon
Waterproof
Look if there's any CM/AOKP ROM for it.
