So, sorry if I sound illiterate or even rude with this post, but I am frantic at this point. I currently own a Galaxy S4 on Verizon wireless running 4.2.2 (VRUDMI1) and I am having a lot of trouble upgrading to 4.3. I was currently rooted without an unlocked bootloader using a root that you guys created (thanks a bunch for that) but now I want to upgrade to the new 4.3 and get rid of my root. I tried using the OTA update to upgrade to the 4.3 version and it failed, 3 times. I was then reading about this "Samsung Knox" stuff and it's really freaking me out. I would lose my warranty and I could never get it fixed or repaired or anything if I trigger this e-fuse. So I did a factory reset, twice, and it still says Samsung Custom with a little picture of a lock that is open and I am afraid to try and upgrade using the update to 4.3. I am worried that it will trigger this Knox because it says custom. I am not using a custom anything, it is all stock Samsung everything, except for I had root access. I read that you can restore this "Custom" message using Verizon's Software Repair Assistant and I have been doing that for 4 hours now and it is stuck on downloading. Is there ANY other way to make that custom message go away WITHOUT RE-ROOTING? Will this message trigger Knox when I try to upgrade? This is all very stressing for me and I will probably NOT root again after this. I just want a safe and reliable way to upgrade to android 4.3 without triggering Knox and without having to root. Please, if you can help me with this I would be EXTREMELY grateful. I hope to hear from anyone! Thanks!:crying:

Oh my god, thank you so much. I am so happy right now! It says official! Thank you so much! I can finally sleep now. Is there any thanks button or like button or anything so I can thank you ;-;?
Edit: I'm blind with exhaustion and did not see the Thanks button. If I could spam that button, I would. But thank you so much, sir!

I'd like to root it so I can get rid of some of the junk apps and install others I want, but I void my two yr warranty...thoughts from the experts? just want to feel comfortable moving forward and if so, is there a set of clear instructions somewhere?

Instead of an asinine comment that does you no go, here's some info.
Yes, rooting will void the warranty. However, you can always Odin to go back to stock should you have an issue that requires returning your phone to VZW.
I've rooted both my old S3 and my current S4. I JUST started rooting on the S3, so I'm relatively new as well but have learned a lot. My S3 was stock rooted, but I took the plunge with my S4 and am running HyperDrive ROM which is HOLY MOLY sweetness.
It's up to you, but if you're going to root, perhaps look at the ROMs that are available and flash one. I'm not sorry that I started flashing Roms. Not one bit

Three replies thus far and yours is the only one of solid benefit..thanks. Can you point me anywhere to see step by step to accomplish what you did on your S4?

Here is the link to root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2290798
How old is your S4? The reason that I ask is that there was an OTA update the broke root. Currently there are Dev's looking into how to root with the new firmware.
Have you installed the OTA update?
Phone is about a month old...I have made no changes to the existing phone so I don.t know about the OTA update (although the VW software that came with it appears to update the phones software when plugged into laptop)

Go to ->Setting->More->About Phone and tell me what you Baseband version says. If it's VRUAME7, you have the OTA update. If it's VRUAMDK, you do not.

No.....there is no way to uninstall the update. Patience, young rooting grasshopper! A new method will be out shortly, I would imagine. Doesn't usually take too long,
Much appreciated...and lastly can you point me to how I would reinstall what you refer to as Odin should I screw up a future root process?

Hi everyone, I'm finally about to OTA my verizon s4. I'm going to use voodoo to protect the root. I'm a little concerned about what voodoo is showing me, before I do the update. I have super su installed and not the other Superuser app and it gives me a link for the superuser one.
Please everyone let me know if it's safe to proceed and that I don't need to also install that other Superuser app, which I don't like. Screenshot attached, thank you in advance!

Me7 is rootable so even if you lose root you can get it back.
Hit thanks if I helped you out. Doing a little bit of reading goes a long way. Sent via tapatalk.
True, I just hate to go thru the trouble if I don't have to. I only have access to a work pc so its kind of a pain.
Im real good with tech but can't afford problems with this phone and yes im a little paranoid lol
Don't do it bro! If your own MDK your golden
Keep MDK. It has the most ROM friendly bootloader.

Im on mdk but I have no interest in loading different roms or anything so I really don't care about the bootloader. If I had a second phone then hell yeah I would go crazy but this is my daily driver and I can't screw with it. Besides, I actually like the stock rom. I just need root because I can't stand the limitation not being rooted.
So aside from my concern about the Play Store link in voodoo, will I have to also temporarily unroot after I protect root?

Totally understandable but root and flash a custom recovery. You may change your mind later and it'll be too late to do anything about it. There's a stock rooted ME7 in the dev section so you'd get the stadibility of stock, root and a bootloader you can manipulate if you ever choose to.
I've never been fond of flashing especially when I have no backup cell phone and I've already tweaked this phone to my liking. I honestly will never want to flash this phone... as dumb as that sounds

Fair enough. In that case, forgo OTArootkeeper/voodoo/whatever, accept the ME7 update and root it via the method in the Dev section. DISCLAIMER!! By doing this, you waive all rights to whine about your bootloader in the future

While im at it, will the xposed framework still work after ota or any concerns?
Any response to the above? Also, is it a prerequisite to unfreeze apps?
Thanks in advance.

Yes. Don't take the OTA. I know you said you have no interest in flashing roms, but why limit your options now when you don't know what the future will bring. Plus even if you do take the ota and gain root, you cannot mess with the kernel. If it was me, I would just download the stock root deodexed version of me7.
Dear XDA Developers Comunity,
First of all, I really appreciate the hard work to keep us satisfied with the updates and improvements in technological systems.
Yesterday, I made my first Root on my phone ( Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 ).... unfortunately brings with the latest version and has the VRUMI1 basis, I have understood that the Bootloader is locked, however, if anyone has had the honor of installing any Recovery to a phone with the same version as mine, I would appreciate very much if you indicate me how to do it.
What have I done so far?

.............I have tried several processes,
********* I tried via ROM Manager (CWM Recovery does not work The me .... says it installed, but it always works the recovery system default.)
********* I tried via GooManager (But the download never starts, I do not understand how bad could it be their the download servers).
********* I tried via Loki_Flash but I indicates this message "Loki about version does not match device" till after I understood that this way of flashing devices is to the MDK basis only.

Oh lordy, please read and search the threads, you already managed to read enough to get as far as you did. You can install Safe Strap, although it is a bit buggy on MI1 from what I have read. No custom recovery option. Just root and debloat and be happy, that is the best route for now. See if 4.4 can bring some new exploits. I was rooted on MI1, I just followed the thread to upgrade to MJ7 and stay rooted. I am not dealing with safe strap, just seems like too much work for a phone that already works great.
Thanks for reply

I really appreciate your prompt response. As you see, I am a new user to this kind of things. But still I seek the opportunity to find the best sources to make these changes on my phone and be lucky with testing ROMs and the best Deployed Apps .... Yes I have read that so far no method for Recovery, but you never know if someone has made work and willing to show how.
I have read about Safestrip, but I see there are errors with the Bootloader, do you think this could work for me?.
BTW Can you please give me more information about "debloat"? Thank you very much my friend.

Yes, actually you do know, because anyone that has made it work will post to XDA that they did it.
Relax. The S4 is a nice phone as it is, enjoy it for now. Pay attention here at your leisure for any new developments if you must.
There's still a huge bounty if someone gets a bootloader unlock. I doubt if somebody figured it out they would turn down a huge chunk of money and not tell anyone about it.
Don't worry, if someone unlocks the bootloader it will be all over XDA.

Hello all!
Thanks for the great info.
I was able to install saferoot and get my phone back to some semblence of usefullness after my phone took the I605VRUEMJ9 update, without my permission nonetheless, but now that I have it rooted, I need to stop them from doing any more updates unless someone here says it's safe and that it won't remove my root!
Can anyone advise how I can stop the update that's currently prompting me to install it and prevent them from installing in the future?
Thanks for all the help here!!

Thanks for the info. I was able to disable the google framework items and renamed the update.zip file, but I cannot find the com.lge.lgfota.permission? I installed the root browser and used it to do a search, but all it did was sit there for hours saying sorting and never found it. I am running a backup with Titanium now. Can someone tell me what SDM is and how to disable it as I read above that I needed to do that?
One more thing, my Note II is now asking fo an unlock code and I can't figure out how to remove it? Is that something that comes with the FoxFi app? I had it before I took the I605VRUEMJ9 update and it never asked for an unlock code.
I am SOOO SICK of Verizon screwing with MY equipment!!
Is this update going to screw with my partial root since I already took the I605VRUEMJ9 update? If not, I'll just let it do it and get rid of it and hopefully the changes I made will stop the next one that tries to download? Yes, No??
Thanks again for all your help here!

Will CF auto root would it be able to root android 5.0.1. I really do not care about the Samsung knots being trigger my phone is already out of warranty. I just have insurance if it gets stolen or I drop it in water. Or should I wait until they find a root method without triggering Samsung knots. I read about triangle away but like I said at this point I can careless if it gets trigger. What are you guys opinion?

As of now, if you took the OTA and did not preserve root, there is no root method available. Also, "Knox"

Fyi...... @dgutierrez04 was the guy that pulled the OC1 ota update for me when no one else could due to the two part 5.0 update. He also took one for the team during testing of the OC1, Stock Rooted ROM so many of you enjoy today by updating his bootloader to OC1.
I assume he has no backup phone.
That said, it seems a lot of people have to use Kies... as Odin reports fails...
I did not root my I545 verizon so now I have lollipop oc1. My question is should I not take the next upgrade for lollipop or at this point does it make a difference as far as getting root?
Thoughts are more than welcome
