[Q] How to boot ClockworkMod? (Xperia Mini Pro - SK17a) - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

tl;dr How do I install ClockworkMod so that it is booted on my device?
I own a Sony SK17a (Xperia Mini Pro) and was trying to install CM 9.1.0 into my device following this guide:
wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_mango
Everything worked fine up until this part:
Once the device boots into the ClockworkMod Recovery, use the physical volume buttons to move up and down. On most devices, the power button is used to confirm your selection, although for some devices the power button is used as a "back" button to go up one level, in which case the home button is used to confirm the selection.

By the time I realized I needed to have ClockworkMod in my device it was clear the proccess would not work since I never installed ClockworkMod in my device (the guide itself never did mention it).
Right now, I am stuck with either boot.img from cm-9.1.0-mango.zip (downloaded from the website), which stucks my device in a loop in the first screen ("free Xperia project") since there is nothing to be booted after (ClockworkMod), or the original boot.img, from which the device works normally, but Wi-Fi doesn't work anymore.
How can I solve this and finish the installation of CM?

Flash the boot.img of cm9.1 and press volume down randomly when the notifications led lights up. You'll get in clockworkmod then as it's included in the kernel (boot.img)
If I were you I'd read my guide on how to install a custom kernel/rom to learn more about it

I think my problem is deeper than what I first thought, then, since flashing boot.img of CM 9.1 and randomly pressing volume buttons just keeps me in a loop of the "free Xperia project" screen, never showing ClockworkMod. Perhaps I should try another version (even though this one is the more recent stable one) to check if the problem persists?
I will check your guide, too, and see what I can learn from it, thank you! Seems a good option since it's on Windows and I've previously attempted on Ubuntu.

Hey, I realized what I was doing wrong: pressing volume buttons before the correct time. Managed to install CM, thank you!

can't enter recovery mode?

I wanted to enter recovery to see how it works, but apperantly i cant?
So i tried to install clockwork recovery a few times with all available methods for my xperia mini pro, but none of them worked... So i put the default files back, and tried again if i could enter the stock recovery.. i tried the power on+ volume down method ( and all the other buttons..) , and tried to reboot in recovery with sdk. Every time i try, it just boots normally?
Im a huge noob, so i have no idea how to get clockworkrec., or even the stock one working...
Seems that you're doing something wrong... Are you sure that you done all tutorial steeps correctly?
well... it should boot in stock recovery when i press volume down when booting.. right? ( I read it was volume down for my phone, so...)
I followed the steps to reboot in recovery with sdk very carefully, the console said it booted in recovery, but i just returned at the home screen..
To install clockwork recovery, i used a easy install script from someone here on xda, so i can't really mess up anything there i think... i didn't get any errors, everything seemed fine, but it just reboots normally.
I tried to reboot into recov. with rom manager too, just normal reboot again.
It shouldn't be this much of a problem to boot just in the stock recovery ... right?
Its no way to boot into CWM from another app for now, mate SE is not supported by ROM manager. Hm... Strange! Try to install custom kernel with CWM integrated. And also (this may sound silly) try to push a button on startup not only one time, but 7-10 times.
P.S.: Once i have had these issue to. In my case i just messed up version for X10
I feel so stupid now..
Pressing volume down 7-10 times worked! I pressed it continuously but apparently that doesn't work here..
And it seems it did install a CWM based recovery after all!
Thanks a lot!

[Q] Xperia Neo stuck at "SONY" logo when boot into CWM recovery

Hi everyone. Can anyone help me figure out what's the problem that i cant boot into CWM. I have Neo MT15i running FINE with stock rom ICS .587, locked bootloader and rooted. I also installed x-Parts as well as CWM 5.5 and busybox 1.20. But my problem is that my phone just cant boot into CWM recovery no matter what i did either press and release volume - continuously when "SONY" logo appears, or using x-Parts function to boot into recovery. It just ends up stuck at "SONY" logo (I waited for about 10 minutes but no respond)
You have to press Back button while booting from Sony Logo to boot into CWM.

same problem for me...xperia neo v
Hello.
I have a similar problem, if not identical. I rooted my MT15i today hoping to install a custom ROM I found in this forum.
Everything went fine. I rooted the phone and installed Clockwork Mod Recovery properly.
Then, I downloaded the rom .zip, placed it in /sdcard, made a backup of my current system, wiped data/ full reset and installed the ROM with SUCCESS, as it said in the log.
After that, I rebooted the phone and now it keep stuck in the "SONY" boot screen and won't change no matter what I do.
But I think I know why did this happen. I was following a tutorial found in another site. There was listed only to wipe data and full reset, and not to wipe danvik and cache, as I came to read after I was stuck in the boot screen.
The problem is that now I can't even get to the Clockwork Mod Recovery screen, even if I start the phone holding volume down button (or reset, or any other button the phone might have).
The only thing to do is removing the battery. After starting again, it gets stuck again in SONY screen.
When I plug the phone into my PC, nothing happens. It doesn't get recognised.
It only turns on and stops at the SONY screen again.
I wonder if there's a way to access the Clockwork Mod Recovery menu or some way to return the phone to the stock settings.
Or is it a possible brick?
Thanks for the help already.
Ps.: sorry for the long post.
First of all don't worry your device is not broken
And not every custom Rom support locked bootloader
The reason you can't access cwm because you wiped data
I think you can restore your phone by reflash firmware using flashtool

I can get the phone to conect to the PC in flashmode. I downloaded the stock firmware of Neo MT15i (v 4.1.A.0.562) and flashed it, but no luck. The phone keeps stuck in the SONY screen. Any ideas?
EDIT: actually, when I bought the phone, it came with Android 2.3, I don't remember the firmware version.

It doesn't matter which android version you flash all should work
make sure you checked those boxes in flashmode
Wipe data
Wipe cache
Wipe apps log
No final verification
And just to know when you flashed the firmware. Does it completed successfully?

Well, I got the phone to boot. I was just trying to flash an incomplete firmware, I guess. I downloaded a new firmware I found in a rooting tutorial thread in this forum and flashed it. The phone is now working fine.
But now it's not rooted anymore. Maybe in the future I'll try to root and flash a new rom.
Thanks for the help, anyway.
Never mind, but I suggest you unlock your bootloader if you would like to flash custom Rom

5 Everytime I have to take out the battery and then insert it as it is not being switched off from power button.
6. as soon as I connect it to charging the Sony Logo appears.
7. When I start it after putting the battery again, without connecting it to charging point, it vibrates on starts as it used to earlier, but then doesnt go beyond sony logo.
Is my phone bricked? Please help. Lots of thanks in advance to all the developers.

NEO V doesn't boot
Hi,
I installed following in my Neo V MT11i
Super Jelly Bean v6.0(16th august 2013)
best kernel for sjb(fusion 5.4)
debloated updated gapps
using following link . http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2108632
I am using Kernel_Flasher_v2.0 to flash the image kernel. It recognises the device and shows that the kernel is flashed. But the device doesnt reboot. I root the phone through eroot software. Then I install X parts and go into recovery mode.
I wiped the phone fully, including system format.
Please guide where I am missing some crucial step.
I am using windows 8
Thanks in advance

[Q] Option 3 brick?

Hello all, I have what appears to be an option 3 brick, but after having searched through the Unbrick posts, I haven't been able to find a definitive answer to how to resolve this (or if it is even an option 3 brick). What happened:
1) Installed ROM Manager on the latest stock ROM (.28?)
2) Installed CWM 5.8.3.4 via ROM Manager
3) Downloaded CM10 via ROM Manager and attempted to flash
4) Realized that this required unlocking
5) Unlocked device
6) Rebooted into CWM
7) Flashed CM10
8) Reboot
9) Passes EeePad boot screen, but stays on CM10 splash screen forever
10) adb pushed a CM9 ROM on instead
11) tried flashing CM9, but same thing
From the posts in the Unbrick thread, a brick 3 isn't quite the same thing because it's a boot loop into CWM instead? I'm not sure. At any rate, it seems to have something to do with not unmounting /staging or something, but there has been no single post with a method to unbrick this. In the Unbrick thread, there are references to fixing this but those references seem to have been removed since it no longer works; a new method was hinted at in several threads, with no definitive procedure. I was also not allowed to post into the Unbrick thread as I haven't reached 10 posts yet.
Any ideas? Thanks.

If your getting to the boot animation it doesn't sound like any sort of brick.
It could be a few things. Try holding the volume down button while powering on. When the text appears up the top left just wait 5 seconds and you will have 3 icons on screen. press volume down to go to the wipe icon and then press volume up to select it.
If this doesn't work post back and we can try some other things.

Yep, that did it! I didn't want to do a wipe via CWM since I thought it might destroy something else, so I was going to do the wipe upon bootup, but I guess a wipe is pretty standard whatever the ROM (I did use the wipe method you mentioned though, maybe that's not the same as the CWM wipe?). When I first tried to install via ROM Manager, I did check "Wipe data/cache", but obviously that fell through when the unit was still locked. Anyways, maybe I'll try to install something like TWRP for ease of mind later. Thanks!

[Q] Xperia P stuck on boot

Hi,
Hope someone can help. I've tried to install a custom ROM today and I'm afraid I managed to brick my phone (Xperia P). Here is what i did:
I started out according to the Starters guide:
-Rooted phone
-Installed CWM
-Made a backup
-Unlocked Bootloader
-Installed JB Moonbreaker 3.5: at this point I was actually still following the starters guide, as in: wiping cache, wiping data, wiping dalvik cache and then installing from zip.
-The phone is currently stuck on the loading screen that comes after "Sony" and "Xperia" (the colorful swirling thingie)
-I can only shut it down by pressing and holding the power and volume up keys until it vibrates 3 times in a row.
-Starting with pressing volume down key repeatedly will not bring up CWM (also gets stuck on the same screen).
-Will also not fastboot anymore properly. (waiting for device for "fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version"; LED on device will not even light up as blue, goes to green instantly)
-In Device Manager I can see it as "Android" with a yellow exclamation mark.
-Sony PC Companion gives me the "My Sony Xperia P LT22 is connected" popup every 15 seconds but will actually not show the device as connected
I'm wondering if I can flash a stock rom on it to recover it or if there is anything else that can be done.
Thanks in advance

Keep the stock fw ready to be flashed using flashtool, enter into flashmode and flash it !

Can't seem to get it flashed from flashtool. I'm pressing the back button and connecting the USB and I'M just getting the same stuff on the phone, while flashtool is waiting for the phone.
I did manage to enter fastboot again though. Should I be flashing CWM from here (since I can't enter it). Or kernel then rom? I'm a bit lost.

Not back button.
Or flash a kernel by fastboot mode, enter CWM and install the ROM (assuming you have the zip file in the SD card )

First make sure your phone is shut down. long press power+vol up until you feel 3 vibrations.
From there you can try fastboot mode or flash mode.

Alright done all that, still is the same. I've started to play with other USB ports and I noticed that when I get connected it tries installing the SEMC Flash device driver. It fails with "device unplugged" message exactly at the same time when when the Sony logo appears. Then it tries installing MTU USB Device as well. Reinstalled flashtool drivers and tried in different ports. It seems as if the phone is not staying in flashmode?

I recall I had that issue with wundows 7 at the beginning, what I did then was to boot my windows xp and managed to flash from there.
I have tried many things since, and if I am not mistaken it's installing flahtool drivers that fixed it finally.
I think there are 3 drivers there you need to install.

did you tried to flash the rom over ICS, if yes then thats why your p got stuck at boot, coz i too got the same prob, when i tried to flash the JB moonbreaker over ICS, so what i did was pressed the power button and volume up button till 3 vibration, start flashtool and flash stock ICS firmware, but don't uncheck wipe data, otherwise you will get bootloop, after flashing is complete, now download and flash stock JB firmware, root your phone using doomlord's easy root kit or any other way you know, install cwm and now reboot into cwm flash JB stock or custom kernel and then the rom, thats it, just let me know if the prob is solved, thanks

Stuck on boot
Guys I have the same problem.
I wasn't satisfied with the rom I put on my phone so I went on to put another one on it.
Flashed the kernel with fastboot, went into cwm, deleted system, cache etc. and went on to flash the rom, but there was no rom zip there, and I was sure I had put it. It was probably an error during the copy procces and it just stopped, I assumed it copied.
Well, now it is just stuck on the boot screen. I can get into fastboot and cwm, but I have nothing to flash.
I tried using the Sony recovery "Emma" but it just stays blank when I connect the phone..
Is there something else I can do?

Hi
I think im facing a very similar issue, i m very new to this and therefore didnt understand the solution. I did visit the developer site for emma, but can you tell me the exact thing to do after starting Emma. I mean, when do i connect the phone and how, what commands to give. Below is explanation of how i got into this and what all ive tried.
OK i ve been trying to flash a new custom rom on my Xperia P, i looked at a number of guidelines and doing things step by step.
Since im very new to this i downloaded a few Roms. I was following the guide "http://droidors.com/2014/07/08/update-xperia-p-lt22i-to-android-4-4-4-kitkat-with-slimkat-custom-rom/2/" and everything was going fine. I reached the step to "fastboot flash boot boot.img", i did that and then went on the next step to boot in CWM Recovery and install the zip rom and the Gapps. During the Zip Rom install i got status 7 error.
Now, i noticed that i might have flashed the wrong Rom so rechecked the guide and installed the correct Rom which is mentioned in "http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-u/p-development/rom-slimkat-4-4-2-release-candidate-t2657795" . But now THE PROBLEM IS, AFTER I FLASHED THE INCORRECT IMG, MY PC IS NOT RECOGNISING THE XPERIA P SAYING IT DOESNOT RECOGNISE THE DRIVERS, therefore im not able to copy the ROM Zip on the SDcard, to then run it from CWM.
After sometime i tried the below
Ok, now i tried to flash the stock Rom through this link "http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-u/p-development/ftf-firmware-xperia-p-generic-world-t2322163", through flashtool to bring my phone back to life. I installed the drivers as per instructions from drivers folder, but for some reason the pc is just not accepting. I did install through this exact method yesterday night and it worked perfectly.
Please suggest. I hope im asking at the right place.
Urgent help please
I forgot to mention, after I flashed the SlimKat Rom, and things went out of hand ( till this point i could see Slimkat logo at boot and could also go in CWM Recovery ), I tried to restore through Nandroid Backup i had done. As soon i selected the restore option and then the backup file, within 2-3 seconds the phone went off, and then on boot all i can do is see "SONY" on screen. Nothing else happens.
I ve tried all this on a different machine, with different wires and different USB port, no luck
Kindly advise, im stuck with no spare phone.
Solved i guess
OK Brother,
I downloaded EMMA and am currently downloading the service. It is very self explanatory. What was amazing is when i recognised my phone "What a sight "
Flashtools wasnt able to do that, so i guess the manufacture tools are damn important ( i wasnt exactly of the opinion before )
Also it is downloading Android 4.0.4 Build 6.1.1.b.1.54, which first came on the device, which also makes me think may be i should have tried that rather than trying to flash with the JB Rom all this while.
Man, i was scared. Thanks for this thread Bro.
God Bless
Will inform once the phone is booted up to confirm it worked.
Emma Worked
OK guys, I can confirm its EMMA "Flash tool for Xperia" fixed the problem for me. It installed 4.0.4 on it.
Also there is a pdf in the Download which guides about the usage.
Sigh
Correction- it installed the latest stock ROM jb

[Q] [HELP] Have I hard-bricked my brand new Xperia Z2?

Okay, I'm not sure exactly what you'll need to know to help, so I'll just tell you what I think is important....
Current situation:
- If I boot the phone normally it freezes at the SONY screen and goes no further.
- If I attempt to boot into recovery mode, it loads the CWM screen (logo in the middle with instructions at bottom), but no actual menu or options. After about 5 seconds, this screen disappears, the phone reboots and then gets stuck on the SONY screen.
- If I connect the phone to the computer in Flashmode Flashtool recognizes it as being connected, but regardless of what I do, after about 2mins the phone reboots, loses connection with the computer, and freezes on the SONY screen as before mentioned.
- If I connect the phone to the computer normally while stuck on the SONY screen, the PC recognizes it though doesn't allow me to do anything to it, and Flashtool says I need to install drivers (I have installed every driver that comes with Flashtool).
How I got here:
- I've rooted the phone
- I've flashed Z2_DooMLoRD_AdvStkKernel_FW-438-v05
- I've unlocked the bootloader (via Flashtool)
- I've installed [Rom][Unofficial]Slim Rom 4.4.4 based on CM11.0, ROM for the Sony Xperia Z2
The phone was okay up until this point, however I wasn't happy with the ROM so I tried to reboot into recovery mode to wipe and install Carbon. This is when the trouble began.
Now it seems I can't do anything :/
Please help. This phone is literally 3 days and it looks like I've completely screwed it >.<
Thanks!
How to recover your device from almost any kind of brick
Requirements
Check the pinned sites
Flashtool
FTF of choice for your device
2 Rubber bands (I am serious but only if your device has no response)
Step1
unplug your device from anything
open flashtool on your pc
plug your cable into your PC
do not plug the cable into your device
Step2
Hold your power button and your volume up button at the same time
your device should buzz 3 times
(this should take a few secconds)
if it does not take a few seconds then you need to put a rubber band around your device holding your power button and your volume up button, DO NOT LEAVE MORE THAN IT NEEDS TO BE LEFT, wait patiently for your device to buzz 3 times
Step 3
once your device has buzzed 3 times you are free to flash a FTF as your device is powered off
step4
if you dont know how to flash a FTF but have gotten as far as installing flashtool,Z2 drivers and downloading a FTF FOR YOUR DEVICE... then folow this step
within your flashtool window click on the lightning icon at the top left
select flashmode
navigate to where you downloaded your FTF (OR put your FTF in your /flashtool/firmwares folder)
select your FTF
Flashtool should give you a prompt to plug in your device
hold volume down and plug in your device
step5
wait for it to finish flashing
step6
your device is now recovered, enjoy...

You didn't unlock your bootloader?
Isn't Carbon ROM AOSP?
If it is, it needs an unlocked bootloader or it will get bricked

Okay I used to get into this kind of situation when I used HTC One, and what I did is try to flash recovery and unlocked bootloader again "using command".
And problem has solved. I think it is pretty much same for Xperia Z2, (ftf flashing method is not useful in this situation.)
I hope you know how to flash custom recovery using command. If not I think there is some thread that explains how to flash recovery and unlock the bootloader using command, if you can't find it plz let me know. Hope you have recovered phone next time I check this thread. Good luck mate :good:

@Envious_Data: Bro, thank you so much for that. I my z2 have only 1 day, and i god damn it bricket, that even screen wasn't working. So for other people who had bad luck: first I rooted using Community Rootkit, then unlocked bootloader, and at the end I flashed via fastboot boot.img which one i extracted from zip file from this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2702001. Command prompt showed that it works. I rebooted phone sony logo showed up, but then disappeared, and then was crying and sorrow. Three years of rooting, flashing without any problem, and now that. Thank you one more time, that's a great lesson
I do have some advice for people
1. Try to find help threads for your device, i have one for Z2 that gives some useful info, ill be adding more soon
2. Once you have got the jist of flashing then try to expand on that, i do recomend roms first because its harder to brick from a rom than a kernel or a non stock based rom such as CM11 or AOSP
3. Always keep a stock flashable rom (kernel too if you have a unlocked bootloader) on your device

A hard brick is by definition not recoverable by the user, requiring either special equipment ie jtag or RMA to fix.
I am quite surprised, and intrigued, at people flashing cm or AOSP on a two day old phone, was Sony experience that awful? You'd maybe be better served with a nexus device.

True friend, but I had an Xperia MT11i (Neo V) and all (fastboot, flashtool, CM, etc) was always no problem.
I've taken today for service (with CM11 (and cm kernel)) and see what happens ...
@Unbalanced I don't think your Z2 Hardbricked, if it were not ignite. Luck
Hi all, if it helps I did the same thing last night. Flashed CM11 without a recovery and wanted to revert back to my nandroid backup. I flashed doomloards kernal via fastboot. CWM started with no menu and just bootlooped. I then thought it may be a CWM issue, maybe no file structure or something. I flashed XZDuelKernal via fastboot and booted into CWM again and experienced the same issue. As this is a duel recovery, I then booted into TWRP. Recovery started and I was able to flash another zip then recover my nandroid backup. If you get this menu issue with CWM,try and flash a TWRP recovery and boot into that.
Also, as mentioned before, this is not a hard brick. It's just incompatible software and is easily fixed if you know what you are doing and prepared (nandroid backup, knowledge about fastboot and flashmode, ftf, recovery, unlocked bootloader).

Stuck
Hi.
I believe (although I'm not sure) that I have bricked my Xperia Z2 in some way. When I press the 'power' button, the phone vibrates once and does nothing. I have tried to hold the 'power on' and 'volume up' buttons for a long time (half an hour with rubber bands), and nothing happens (as explained earlier in the thread).
I believe I am able to access the fastboot though, through 'Terminal' app on OSX. From there I can " ./fastboot devices " and get confirmation that they have loaded. I am also able to perform other tasks from here, such as flashing a recovery and " fastboot erase system -w " (which I believe may have got me to where I am now). I've been following things on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277112
I have no experience in rooting or flashing, but attempted to flash a custom ROM because there were step by step instructions.
Anyway, I firstly used Sony's rooting procedure whereby an unlock code is generated etc. Eventually I gained access to the Recovery mode (via clockwork), and wiped the phone, installed the ROMAur zip and GApps zip. However, when I booted, it kept giving me warnings saying the apps were crashing. I've since gotten lost completely and need someone to help bail me out.
I'm hoping I can sort things out via the fastboot.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for the quick reply Mario. I did just that (using Kuwait FFT for the D6503), and everything appears to be back to normal. Unfortunately I still have not got root access and can't remove the bloatware. As for the bricking issue however, it's solved. Thanks.
