hello
i want to buy a new android phone and i love capture photos..so which one have a better camera..SGS2 or MyTouch Slide 4G or iPhone 4..i don't care about video recording
Best camera I've had on a smart phone yet; had an iPhone 4 for a bit before this and that had the best camera imo till the GS II, the GS II takes amazing photos and can't forget the 2mp front cam vs the less than 1mp vga camera that you get with almost any smartphone these days...
Theres a post on the GS II general here that says "post the best picture you've taken with the gs ii" or something, id check that thread out as people have some really amazing photos taken with the phone up.

my friend have SGS2 and most of my family have iPhone 4..all of them say iPhone 4 camera better than SGS2 !! my friend running original rom..he should running custom rom to improve camera ??

Well to each their own, from my personal experience i prefer the GSII camera 10x over the iPhone 4 camera. Then again I'm not really a photographing enthusiast I'm just a point and shoot type of person nor do i know the technical stuff about cameras to actually inspect both cameras technically and say which is better. If you are a "pro" photographer id google the specifications of each like the sensor or w/e and read up on it before making a decision.

I'm actually disappointed with the camera, I'm struggling to take any decent pictures with it, although that's probably my lack of talent.
I remember the iphone 4 camera being better, but without having them side by side I'll never know.
On paper the galaxy is better though.
It doesn't replace my 50D, but it does replace my 10 megapixel Sony TX1. Having an 8 megapixel cam on a phone is perfect for most uses.

Anyway, definitely it is much better than my SGS1, esp in lower light. The front camera is unreal also, I take a lot of pics with the front camera when I am out and about (so I can see what I am framing with me in the pic ;-). The SGS1 front camera produced distorted, messy blobs, the SGSII one is quite a bit better. Good enough for facebook uploads, anyway.
But friends took a pic of a group of us with an iphone in a poorly lit telephone exchange, I was amazed at the clarity of the image, my SGS1 was never capable of such an image in those light conditions (my old old Nokia N95 on the other hand, I was nearly always happy with those pics). I reckon (but will have to wait and see till I get to the same location again one day) that the SGSII might just pip it, thanks also to the flash.
Came from an iPhone 4, it definitely has a better camera and it's not very picky when it comes to lighting and focus. In contrast the SGS1 camera was pretty meh compared to the iPhone 4's shots
sgs2 has one very good camera.but the best camera smartphone is the nokia n8.
I agree, the camera is way better than the one the SGS1 had.
First time I can take decent pictures with my phone in a bar - without a flash. Great
I do think the s2 camera is slightly better than iPhone 4 but it does have a slower shutter speed (my mate and I have tested this) and sometimes its hard to get in focus... overall though not bad. Just my 2c
Its not the best camera around but it can surely rival the N8's 12Mpixel camera. The only downside is that there is a pink/green spot depending on the light conditions ( even out doors ) and some users have frame drop issues on low light when capturing 720P. 1080P video is extremely zoomed so this is only good as a 720P video capture. Putting aside the defects, the image quality is very acceptable, altho it still cant rival my very old Sony DSC-P200 ( roughly about 7-8yrs old )
if you use true hdr apps to take pics of the sun you'll be fine

dont be fooled with camera apps claiming hdr and taking a single picture - its just image processing and the result sux
im listing that because the iphone4 uses hdr for pics and this kind of pic look a lot better that way
gsmarena has good comparisons of different devices' cameras . It's important to see pictures taken under similar conditions and the same test scene .
One shouldn't expect wonders from such a tiny sensor . Anything not shot in daylight / lowest ISO/ is a compromise.

I've found some LG G2 video and photo samples with the originals that you can download. Photo quality seems really good but that 60 fps sample seems to run too fast? Or is it my PC??

Honestly the photos and videos look and sound pretty terrible. I've seen some sample pics from Phonearena, pics from a couple korean sites, and video samples from other testers besides these. The photos are grainy, have drab colors, blur a lot, and seem to be constantly overexposed and over-contrasty losing all fine detail where all grays turn black and all bright shades turn white. The videos have LG's trademark OCD autofocus that keeps on bouncing and bouncing even on a perfectly still scene and all the image problems the photos suffer. The audio capture is grating and reminds me of the horrible audio capture of the GS3 and older HTC phones. I'd rank the camera chops below even last gen flagships.
Other than the amazing screen and thin bezels, the rest of the LG G2 is shaping up to be another copycat follow everyone else half effort. Poorly implemented OIS that barely exists (worse than even the HTC One), the same unimpressive 13MP camera from last year's Optimus G that many websites said was worse than the 8MP version, the same cheap plastic build but in this case you can't even remove the battery or expand storage space, and little in the way of innovation besides ho hum spec bumps.
I am mostly disappointed in the camera, as this is the year of the Lumia 1020's 41MP camera, Galaxy S4 Zoom's 10x zoom and large sensor, Xperia Z1 with 1/2.3" sensor, Oppo N1 which I am very siked for coming next month, a big camera bump for the iPhone 5S, a 13MP OIS camera from Samsung on the Note 3 which will surely be better than this, Motorola's ClearPixel, and HTC's Ultrapixel. Even though everyone is trying to compete with better camera's, LG just stuck with last year's lackluster faux 13MP one and tacked on a barely there OIS.
Cue ignorant or willfully in denial comments about not final firmware and prototype hardware and yada yada yada. I've been listening to the same excuses for years for dozens and dozens of phones from Nokia and HTC and Samsung and LG and whoever. You get what you see. That's that. The Lumia 920 isn't going to get any sharper looking even after a year of updates. The Xperia Z noise and terrible JPEG algorithm isn't going anywherer. The grain in that smaller Lumia 1020 sensor will be there forever. The cartoony smeared and overprocessed HTC pictures will stay that way. And LG's photos will always look like they were recorded on a VHS tape and played back on an old tube TV. Prototypes, pre-launch hardware, post-launch, hardware made a year later with a year worth of updates, same thing.
Photos when you zoom in to them look over sharpened and compressed. I agree that LG could have done better there with the camera. 920 OIS seems to be one of the best where the G2 doesn't seem that effective. Much like the HTC OIS. But if you look around on the youtube videos some 1020 and 920 videos are shaky and other less. I wonder why that is? Some people have steady hands where others don't?

Sux cuz my s3 screen is broken and waiting for a worthy update. S4 is not an option, i hate pentile amoled and Samsung didn't learn from the s3. Reason enough for me to abandon Samsung.
HTC has ridiculous built in social shiat, not an option either.
I want a full hd full sub pixels display below 5inch. G2 was an exception cuz of the thin bezel. And to all the brands that bring out new high end phones without full hd display... well, see you next year maybe.

I hate that about them... well did. Then I just rooted and uninstalled all that social crap that I don't use.
idk, i love my GS4 camera and think it easily kills my DNA, and the one in general, and the G2 looks to have pretty much the same quality as the GS4...so i'm excited.

I've owned the S4 and I would say they are indeed about the same quality now. Video is only better because it shakes around less than the S4 due to the OIS. Its somewhere between the HTC one and 920 OIS. In the middle of the two in terms of OIS preformance.
Sound wise the LG G2 picks up too many high frequencies noises at times.
The sony Z1 we don't even know about that camera yet. So how can we comment on it.

i'm excited. the audio in videos on the S4 was great; i record guitar videos from time to time, and the S4 rocked..i hope the G2 will be good, too!
Sample Photos - GS3 Comparison
I am the recent owner of an LG G2 and I was comparing the photo quality to my old GS3. I only did a few situations, but I thought I should share the results if anyone else is interested. GS3 photos taken @ 8MP and G2 photos @ 13MP.
The GS3 is definitely better at focussing on close objects.
I have some HDR and non-HDR versions there (it's easy to tell them apart). The GS3 HDR seems to be more aggressive, which can often result in a significant loss of contrast.
I also tested the OIS on the G2 by holding the phone with a shaky hand and taking burst shot photos, and it didn't seem to be very effective.

Can you try with the camera mod?
With the original camera photos has lot of bad quality but with modded camera it just got great

Ok. I must be blind but in the first set of shots the g2 captures better details than the nokia. The nokia has better color reproduction, though.
Also the images are all at different distances...
Overall it looks like the zoom is the best picture taker. While the lg can come off as soft its still a capable shooter that could get better with software updates...
And that's where support comes in, my experience with LG support is sketchy at best... The camera has great potential but could really use some (software) tweaking. QUestion is if LG will live up to that task...

They may very well be at a slight difference in distance from subject, compounded by the lens differences. Its never a simple matter to get a camera comparison to be equal in all respects. This isnt trying to compare 50mm prime lens on the same test body after all.
The results are as you might expect. The nokia sony and samsung devices are more dedicated to camera performance and those companies have more expertise in that arena.
If we are lucky there will be some improvement to the camera from LG or rom tweaks, but in any case the g2 camera takes fine pictures for a smartphone. This review is what I expected based on specs and track records of the companies.
They should have put S4 i9505 instead of zoom

Images are not taken at different distances. Some phones have wider focal length lens so they will have wider field of view. Also, camera with more MP will look to be zoomed in more as obviously they have more mega pixels!

Upon further inspection that could be a big portion of the 2nd set of shots but if that is the case I would have thought the nokia would look completely different on their far shots but it nearly matches up with each phone.
I have Z1 and a S4 Zoom and. So disappointed in my Xperia z1, the S4 Zoom wins by a mile when it comes to camera quality and outcome of pictures even though Sony boasts the Xperia z1 has 20.7mp on it. Don't believe the hype. S4 Zoom IMO has the best camera for a smartphone.

That's because the s4 zoom is really a camera with an Android OS. It's a horrendous smart phone. All the rest are fantastic smart phones with cameras having a decent consideration. The s4 zoom is actually kind of stupid, it gets smoked by a ton of phones and its camera gets smoked by tons of cheaper point and shoots with a ton more features at a lower price point.

Yeah, well nope. Nokias have the best cameras IMHO. To be honest, I'm slightly disappointed in G2's camera. It's good and all, but it's been hyped a lot, so I expected something better. I don't complain though, these are smartphones after all.
Anyway, doesn't somebody know how could one play with the camera settings? Like tweaking and stuff, like xdabbeb's camera mod. I can't really figure out which files store the preferences and such.

What a crap are the pictures taken by cellphones, horrible. This give you an idea how Nokia sponsors DPREVIEW. The color reproduction of Nokia and Samsung are totally off, horrible. The best of 4 is Sony with it faster lenses and color reproduction similar to LG, better skin tones with Sony and LG by long compared to Samsung and Nokia, the Nokia colors are the worse. LG has a very heavy noise reduction because its really small sensor, the smallest of the 4.
The G2 night escene shoot was bad mettered.
Last word, is incredible that the people that did the image size test in DPREVIEW was so bad done. They should have resized the images to the smallest resolution for the comparison.

I'm not agree with you, has very bad colors, slower lens and don't expect any descent picture (I can not say quality because you can not get quality out of a smartphone) with a zoom of 24-240, you wont even find a professional lens with that focal length difference.
I think i might have found a fix for the slow FPS and lag in the camera in low light condition.
Try installing the new google camera app, from android 4.4 kitkat, and use your camera at night with both apps, you will see a difference.
But there's a little compatibility issue with the app, it doesnt scale with the phone resolution.

I find the LG's one too over exposed. I think the app is trying to increase the exposure too much in night shot, thus the lag slower fps. What do you guys think??

yea but look how much brighter the LG one is. although the colors seem to be a little off, i don't mind it. especially in low light situations where i want to take a pic and not use flash. i don't mind that its slower because it has to compensate for the low light. and it does low light pics amazingly btw. if it was slow in bright light conditions, then thats an issue. now to work on the focusing and overall blurriness of pics...
I mean, that's not a fix lol its just using another app. every other app works in low light with higher fps, it's just lgs camera that doesn't. this title is misleading.

Google's camera is still a little laggy... Plus, I've noticed that the navigation bar is not hiding, I don't know if is just with me.
I also noticed that the G2 is not fast to focus when we are at low light conditions.... Very poor. I wish LG could make this better, because even the front camera is laggy.

I used to have a SIII.
So, I'm comparing with my SG SIII camera.
With low light.... it is very laggy, even the Google camera apk, it is not as good as I would expect.
I bought this phone because of the quality of the camera; sure it is amazing with bright conditions, but, it is very poor with low lights...
Even the flash is laggy.
I compared mine in low light next to my evo. There was slightly more lag (less then a second more), but the image quality was thousands times better. Could barely make out anything with the evo, other then the fact there were things in the room. With the g2, you could actually see what was in the room. And with the mod's from this site, got a clear picture that looked almost the same as actually being in the room.
The image quality is good. OK, I accepted that. But, in my case, for example, I have a 5 months old child, I Love taking pictures of her. With low light it got so laggy that is really hard to take one without blurring, 'cause she is moving all the time, so, I was expecting a little bit of improvement on the camera's speed.

Anyway, coming from a Lumia 920 with crazy lowlight shots, I've given up on using the G2 camera in the night time totally. Tried LG-based camera apps on different ROMs and AOSP ones, they all suck. Takes super long to focus and picture turns out blur. OIS is just but a gimmick (or maybe I have extra-shaky hands, idk?).

I recently switched to the G2 from a Nexus 5 and since we are talking about camera I find that the Nexus 5 Front facing camera takes better pix, sharper and more vibrant, the G2 is shadowy and not as sharp am I the only one experiencing this?

I'll be switching from Nexus 5 too. Which do you think has a better camera? I don't really use the front too much but the nexus 5 does good with it though the g2 has 2,3 mp front while Nexus 5 only has 1.3 but apparently these days mega pixels don't mean as much

I have both in hand right now and I'm torn I did some adjustements in the G2 so I think it will suffice I dont use the front camera as much also , it just erked me that it sucked in comparison to the G2 if you end up getting one you will see what I'm talking about exactly in regards to the front camera, it's just more vibrant and sharp on the Nexus 5 ( front) the back I think G2 does a tad better but sometimes I feel like it's overexposed
I do like the G2 Display and battery life I hated the Stock UI so I flashed PA 4.4.2 so it's pretty much a carbon copy of what a nexus 5 would look like, flashed G2 on 4.4.2 is a better battery/display Nexus 5, factoring in the fact that it costs more than the Nexus 5 , Nexus 5 comes out a solid solid phone I'm really confused ........

I'm getting the g2 for same price as nexus 5 since I'm doing a complicated trade on craigslist. I'll be selling my phone to one guy and buying from another for same price. Now the issue with this is if one doesnt show up it ruins it for the other two. So hopefully it goes well. I'm sure it would be easy to sell the g2 and get a nexus 5 again if I don't like it but I feel like I'll like the g2 better just for the battery alone

That's the only reason i bought the G2 I found it for a steal price , I could sell it and make a few extra bucks and just keep my N5 because it's essentially the same - Display and Battery I could live with that for the right price I'm going to keep using it for a few days and decide now I'm leaning towards the G2 lol

Sorry, it's a little bit of a rant , I just can't believe google, how can they screw up the HDR+ mode so bad? The HDR+ makes the photos, specially the ones at night look amazing but it also makes the camera almost useless, it slow downs the camera/ phone and it takes like 4 seconds to take a single shot :/ and even worse if you take let's say 3 photos, it just queues the photo editing of the photos, so you have to wait 12 seconds to see the last pic you took.
Nexus 6p and pretty much all of the nexus phones (nexus 5, nexus 6) need the longest of any flagship I've tried to capture a HDR+ pic :/ , the galaxy s6, the LG G4, the iphone 6/6s you just snap a HDR picture and it's already on the gallery by the time you open it.
I love hdr+ and has been trying to flash it on every phone since N5 ?

HDR+ makes a huge difference. It does a good Job..they do need to work on the app though
I think most of these posters have never used a phone outside of stock Android. I had the G4 and Note 5 before getting my 6P, and I can tell you that compared to the HDR modes of both LG and Samsung, the Google Camera HDR+ mode is truly awful. Yes it's a bit better than the non-HDR mode, but not by much. HDR on LG and Samsung makes a huge difference, and those images are almost instantly view-able.

As a former S6 owner, the HDR results from Samsung are (majority of the time) over-processed and the picture, while high in dynamic range, looks unnatural. I've had great results with my 6P and HDR mode. The pictures come out with good dynamic range and they look a lot more natural.
What I mean is, its a small device with so many features. Not a DSLR? I think I'm a decent photographer and the camera on this phone is outstanding

I'm not saying the 6P isn't good, it is for a Nexus definitely. I'm saying HDR mode doesn't even compare to that of LG and Samsung.

Most certainly without doubt over processed. Your N5/G4 pics do not resemble natural at all.... The world is not saturated like that. Just as all Samsung AMOLED displays are awfully over saturated. Just happy 6P has sRGB mode to lessen that effect.
HDR acceptable for low light, other than that it sucks, my opinion anyway. HDR is a novelty and compensation for the weakness of phone cameras. That is all it is. If you want real contrast, learn photography rather than touting how amazing the G4 is? My suggestion. I am not a photographer but have never been impressed by any phone camera vs an actual DSLR by an amateur enthusiast.

Completely false, you are just used to the dull photos from the Nexus. Have you ever been to a New England fall day? It's most definitely that saturated. These look very similar to how they look out of camera from my DSLR as well.
No one wants to look at 100% natural photos either, slightly saturated adds a nice look to photos to make them pop. There is a difference between over saturated and a good looking photo though.
HDR for low light? Do you know what HDR actually does? Low light is when you don't want to use it due to taking an over exposed shot in a dark shot will lead to excessive ISO and or blurred images.

I live in New England and HDR are by definition over saturated contrast enhanced processed and IMO Samsung/LG are the worst. Apple probably the best. Real camera trumps them all. I prefer real life over saturated digital. Personally hope someday phone cameras will improve someday and HDR will be a terrible memory people will laugh thinking, people really thought HDR was a good idea?

I also have to disagree. Although the camera on the 6p is better then the 6 which was better then the 5 etc its still far from "great"
The photos on my S6 were amazing and fast.
The software on the stock android for camera is horrible. The only reason i was excited for the 6p camera vs the S6 was the 240fps for slowmo and unless the sun is directly above you theres an absurd amount of noise PLUS you cant export the slomo video after you finish putting the slomo parts in so you can only view it on Google Photos otherwise the entire video is slow.
Everyone is missing op's point.
He/she is saying that it takes a long time for the app to do it's thing. To take the shot and process the image.

This is entirely true. I bought myself a note 4 used along with a 128 gig card, since it was going cheap, took a HDR shot and its .. instantaneous. Zero wait time.. click, point and shoot and view a second later.

All samsung phones also do have the ability to be switched to SRGB (basic display mode i think). It makes a LOT of difference, if you prefer your display to be flat like that.

Pretty much this.
It does take a long time to process the photo. My G3 never took this long but HDR works better then my G3 for pulling up the shadows. But I rarely use it on any phones and the times I've used it, I was pretty happy with the results that I tested. I've done it a few times on my DSLR manually but I don't do it much.

It takes a lot to pull off the shots that this camera can take. BTW, I have a Note 4 and the 6p is definitely better. Also, if you dislike HDR so much, then just turn it off!

You do realize that such comments are useless?? Who cares what Google's hdr does. It doesn't take a genius to realize their camera app is simple junk. It is like 10 years behind Apple and Samsung and it will probably keep being that way as long as there are users like you that will justify them no matter what.
Disagree completely, I have the note 5, and some how the 6p is taking less blurry and equally sick photos
