So I've searched and searched and haven't found a viable fix. My GPS will absolutely not lock on with this Rom. I've flashed JellyBeans and it immediately gets signal. I had the same issue with CM as well. I'm running baseband MC3 but even tried LL4 with no luck. My buddy has the same phone/Rom and has zero issues. Has anyone else had this issue or know of a fix? Any insight is appreciated at this point. I love this Rom and what it does for this particular phone. I hate restoring another just to use GPS.

I had trouble with a consistent GPS lock on every AOSP rom I tried until following the directions of having a positive lock (I had maps open and could see the lock in notifications) when shutting down TW to flash the new AOSP. I am now running SlimRom with a flawless GPS experience. My first flash of the same rom without a positive lock before the flash and the GPS was very slow to lock. I restored TX from nandroid, then got a lock, shutdown and flashed AOSP again and no problems.Have you tried this?

I haven't. I used to read every thread in the forums back in the G1 and original nexus days but I just don't keep up anymore. So basically I flash a TW ROM, shut down while locked on GPS and then wipe and flash? Could I just restore my ROM that I'm using instead of flashing a new ROM? Thanks for the reply, not having a solid GPS caused me to be late to my daughters gymnastics meet last weekend and her friend threw up in the back seat of my 2013 Mustang GT because she was car sick from all the turning. :-\

I am looking for a custom ROM that will work well with GPS and asat nav on the phone, hopefully google navigation.
Any that can be reconmended?
Also how do you install the radio on the phone?
Thanks
villain 5.4 works well with Google navigation.

I was just running 5,3 and it never found the GPS for some reason, it kept saying searching for GPS
what i did on villain was turn the gps on, restart the phone and just leave the gps on.
got a fix in 5 secs and really doesnt effect the battery much.
5.3 is really strange for GPS for me. When it finds my location it's great but often wont pick up where I am or thinks I am somewhere random.
GPS in Androbin beta r2 work good. I try it with google maps, ndrive and with "GPS test" app and no problem.
Sometimes I must wait for signal long time, but this is same as with original HTC ROM.
just installed sensehero 2.1 and finding that it wont get a fix on the GPS.
Is there a reason for this, or should i just leave it on and hope for the best?
just used soulehmoo's advice and it seemed to do the trick, but its on sensehero now. seems to work nice too. liking the background
I also tried aHero and sometimes i got a fix, but i never felt i was as good as when i had WM. Never tried a HTC so don't know how that worked
Villain 5.4 fixes a lot of GPS issues (have no problems any more)
if you have any problems (this goes for all 2.1 rom), do any of the following actions:
Reboot your phone with GPS on. Most of the times, this fixes everything
Reflash your radio ROM with GPS on when you shut down you phone to go into recovery mode
Radio doesn't need to be the latest version, latest version had connection and battery issues here (doesn't say you will have them also)
cool. thanks will try that, but how do I flash the radio? I'm pretty new to the flashing of ROMs.

same way you flash a rom. don't pull the battery, wait for it to reboot.
so i have to wipe the card and then put that on,flash it then reinstall a rom?

There's no need to wipe the card first or to reinstall the ROM afterwards. Also, iirc, the radio flashing actually takes place on the first reboot, not straight after you choose the recovery menu option to apply the update. You should be aware of this as a few people have been confused by it & done a battery pull in the middle of the update, with brick shaped results. As kendong2 says, don't pull the battery during the update procedure.
ah so i just put it on my SD card, and then click it like i would a rom, restaret the phone and let it do it?
I shall try that
Thanks
yes.....................
will that way work and still allow my Rom to work as well? I.won't notice a change?

None of the 2.1 ROMs has a 100% working GPS so far. All those "tricks" like rebooting with GPS turned on or reflashing the radio only work exactly one time. The next time GPS is turned off it's almost impossible to get a fix again.
If you want working GPS, go for a 1.5 ROM!
Hi,
Yesterday I flashed CM9 resurrection edition (before that I had a 2.3.5 stock ROM) and GAPPS.
Everything seems to work fine, apart from the GPS function...
In 2 times I tried, it took my SG2 about 15-20 minutes to lock on to a signal (and after that it was fine...), but in all the other times, it doesn't get a lock on.
I d/l GPS status and GPS Test and I get nothing.
I tried the AGPS patch from here, but nothing seems to work.
I looked all over the net for a solution, but didn't got to anything useful.
Can anyone help?
Try to flash a newer CM9 Nightly. Many improvements have been committed since last resurection release.

I read GPS fix installs tons of spam and push ads. I prefer avoid it.
Any other idea?
Flash latest nightly. The latest commit found below fixes your problem

Yeah. Search. Mentioned about a 100 times in q&a and also in the cm10.1 thread.

Telenav seems to work alright for me if you gps can find a lock at all, at least while i was on the rom sense 5.0 all the way for me from here on out.
Get GPS Lock via Mapquest
Hi. I was able to get a GPS lock on Mapquest for CM 10.1. I left the app open, then opened Google Maps, and the GPS worked fine. Might be worth a try.
try some of this fixes: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1132412
specially the sense "fix": http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11183817&postcount=3404
Deck's CM10.2 fixed my GPS issue
I had the cm10.2 nightly from get.cm installed. I could not get GPS to get a lock. I tried gps tools, sense rom, gpsclrx, wipe cache etc. Nothing worked. The Sense ROM I was using to try and fix this always always got a lock immediately.
Finally, I chose to install Deck's CM10.2 release from 8/18/13 at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2411277.
Bingo. GPS works great for me now.
I used to have a note 2 a couple months ago and every AOSP/AOKP ROM that I flashed, there was issues with the GPS and the navigation didn't work. I am currently running an s4 on the latest stock ota and there is no root method yet, and I'm sure there won't be a boot loader unlock method for it. So I'm considering going back to a note 2. I was just wondering if the GPS issues had been fixed? Thanks guys!

I had that problem after flashing Carbon. I made a nandroid of Carbon, restored my fully functional JellyBeans' nandroid and booted into it, got GPS lock, went back into recovery and restored Carbon, rebooted and got GPS immediately. No GPS problems since.
Yeah I remember being able to get a lock after running GPS in a touchwiz ROM, but I was wondering if anyone had ever gotten a fix for the entire issue. I know GPS works on the S III for AOSP ROMs. Just curious. Thanks guys!

I have not had that problem in a long time. I don't even think it was a problem for everybody.
After rooting I cant get a lock indoors.
Before rooting it could almost tell me which room I was in.
Outdoors its fine.
The compass is another story.
In vehicles the compass is WAY OFF, but indoors or out of the car its fine. :screwy:
Looking for a fix as well
i have tried so many ROMs to get this GPS working and nothing has done the trick, not even a TouchWiz based ROM. I flashed 'clean rom' yesterday from CM11 (which i miss) so I could have gps for my holiday travels but it gave me not a drop of connection. I might as well just go back to CM since it's not working...
I have been searching Google all morning for a fix with no solutions.
It is a well known issue for GPS to not work in AOSP roms. Always before you flash CM/AOKP or any AOSP rom you MUST get a GPS lock in a stock based ROM, then boot into recovery and flash the AOSP Rom. Should fix it, every time. Then you should be able to jump between any AOSP Roms with no issues.

If you are having trouble getting a lock even in the stock TW rom, try downloading this app... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2
Install it, open it, you will find a setting in the menu called "clear a-gps state". That has fixed it for me in the past.

This has been the most persistent bug for me just as with the OP. This app was unable to fix my lock problem and I've flashed a couple of times to get a lock in CleanROM, a stock based ROM, and then overlayed my Nifilim on top. Fully clean wipes each time but no luck.

This isn't unusual as a compass is always affected by close proximity to large metal masses (your car) and to other field generators (power lines, antennae, etc.). You'll see the same behavior in physical compasses so don't break a sweat trying to correct firmware for this behavior.
The GPS problem is another story, of course.
hey guys, I somehow can't get a GPS lock when I'm running SlimBean, but I can get it when I'm using Neat ROM. How do i get it to lock when I'm using SlimBean?
Did you read other users experiences in SlimBean thread? It's probably a problem with the ROM or kernel, try a different rom or version or kernel.
Since flashing 4.3.1 and now Im using 4.4 Pound rom, I have had major GPS problems too.
Sometimes, it could take upwards of 5 minutes to find a lock. If I flashed back to stock 4.1.2, it looks within seconds. I've searched all over the internet for a solution. Flashing gps config files and enabling static GPS and trying tons of programs from the play store, nothing worked.
So what I do now is when I want a quick fix, I enable the GPS to not only look for the GPS satellites, but to also use the network. For some reason, this gets me a fix within a few seconds. I can then disable the network part and try again and it fixes instantly.
I cant explain it, but whatever, it works.

I'll give it a try, cheers for the input, will post the result of my experiments soon
your stock sammy rom is probably localised to your country whilst a custom rom is not.
Try gps-fix apps from the play store. Or a new kernel
