I've been looking in to buying myself a tablet, but I want one that's fast and smooth running. Ipad is great because of how smooth it runs and transisittions between pages, but I want something that my S4 can interact with. Any suggestions? I'd like to root and flash ROMs on whatever tablet I end up with so obviously ipad and surface are out. I don't know much about any of the others out there so any help would be fantastic!

One of the new Nexus 7's possibly? It's pretty much universally agreed that it's the best if not one of the best Android tablets on the market right now. Also, it's super easy to unlock the bootloader since it's a Nexus device and the development community around it is huge.

Agreed, I had the first generation Nexus 7 and absolutly loved it! Im hoping to get the 2nd gen somewhat soon. And they are very cheap compared to iJunk tablets
I thought the Nexus devices were phones.... Am I just that dumb? Lol... Can these tablets be purchased at a best buy or only online?

There are actually 2 Nexus tablets on the market right now... the Nexus 7 and the Nexus 10. The 2013 Nexus 7 is an excellent tablet you can buy directly from the Play Store or other places online. The Nexus 10 is also worth considering if you want a bigger tablet, and it also has the BEST speakers of any tablet on the market. Personally, I'm waiting for them to come out with the "updated" Nexus 10 like they did with the Nexus 7. Either way, as far as Android tablets go, they are both winners. The only other tablet I would recommend taking a look at is the new Samsung Note 10.1 - it has a gorgeous display and all of the productivity power of the Note software and stylus. It's just a little too pricey in my book though.

Yeah I think a bunch of these devices had wifi issues. Pop on over to the Nexus 7 (2013) forum on XDA for details. The 7's are great and inexpensive but ASUS isn't exactly known for their QC. Good luck!

I'm asking for your opinion on the device with Stock Android Experience.
Not asking if I should buy it or not.
They would have to use lower spec parts to fit with the Nexus Line prices.
Edit: Nvm its offering at $650. WOW!

I agree. It would be really nice to finally see these great phones running aosp without the need for a custom rom.
Hopefully, this one is going to come to Canada eventually...
Frankly I think it is good that they are doing this but I would rather have a nexus 5.
I'm hoping for nexus 4 prices with
2.3GHz processor
2+GB RAM
5.3 inch FHD Screen
32GB storage
Metal build
Key lime pie
Multi window
Then and only then will i replace my nexus 4. Dont really care about fhd though and the s4 is no faster than my OCed nexus 4
It will be incredible if google goes with the Exynos 5 Octa
Will this come with other features from the original s4?? Not the touch wiz but other stuff

I like the idea, but not the price (and based on the audience reaction...neither did they). I mean you can get an unlocked HTC One for around $560ish. From there, one could root/ROM it and be good to go. Now if the price drops to say $500 or less, I'd be willing to shell out the cash. Which I hope the price point will change. This is a great start to offering a bloat free device, without having to root/ROM it. This would be great if other manufacturers followed suit.
Good move nonetheless!
A true Nexus Samsung phone would be the only way I'd buy another Samsung phone. Getting rid of Touchwiz is easy, but I just can't deal with the lagging of releasing updates.
Boo... too expensive, too mainstream, to dang normal. Optimus g pro version would be nice that's bad ass or version of Sony z... both would be better all around and could be at $500 Google price. I was so disappointed! I just returned my nexus 4 thinking they were going to release something better. I'll stick with my note!!

In this order:
Development, Processor, Resolution, Price
I came from the fantastic Acer a500, so it had to be a damn good device.
screen res, nexus status. if a new N7 was out with a higher res screen, I would have gotten that. but this was a work purchase, and the fiscal year is ending so I needed to buy now it's an upgrade from my galaxy tab 10.1.
edit: not a reason why i purchased, but the front speakers are impressive, at least compared to my old tab.
Development,screen, front speakers, design
I had a Nexus 7 at the time, and prior to that, a Galaxy Tab.
- I wanted to try a larger tablet
- The specs were pretty awesome
- Rear-facing camera (found it a real pain that my N7 didn't have one)
- Screen resolution
- Front-facing speakers
- Nexus
Was kind of concerned with the pace of development at first. Seems alright now I suppose :good:
Still kind of interested in trying out a Windows tablet for some specific games though...

Why did you make this thread? For post count?
Will you make future threads based on the same criteria or do you care more about spamming the forums?
In other words, did you search before making this thread?
It's a nexus and has soo many pixels. I like pixels. It was most certainly NOT because it has a rear facing camera.
Screen and specs, android, knew it would have a strong development community supporting it, specs will make it decent for a couple years, I travel for work and need something to check email daily, laptop too heavy, etc. And it's a fun toy.
Hdmi, Development, 10".

the screen, the processor, nexus device, that black on black.
why
Have the Nexus 4 already.
Came from a Tablet S and was a bit disappointed in the updates or lack thereof as well as the shell design. Thought it was cool for about a week.
Top reasons:
Standard android
Screen
speakers
My experience so far is excellent with no complaints. It's much faster, better screen, better speakers, better wifi (much). I like some of the Sony apps like Music Unlimited but I can just download them if I want them.
I don't think I will ever buy another non-nexus device for cell or tablet. Price is right and updates are swift.
What made you choose Tablet S ?
Sent from my Nexus 10 using xda app-developers app
tablet s
Thought it was a bit different at the time. Bought it back in 2011 when it first came out. Kind of bought into the whole it's easier to hold thing with the wide grip on the one side. Also the first to have the remote IR feature (which I never used hardly). I had the X10, Sony Arc and then the Xperia S so was just keeping it in the family so to speak. Still think the Sony UI is very intuitive compared to the Samsung, LG and Htc overlays.
I chose the Nexus 10 because it was the successor to the Motorola Xoom. Stock Android with updates direct from Google. That's what mattered. There was no other choice.
Winning it in the favorite things sweepstakes mostly

Pretty much any time I use it. Unlocking it, opening any app, trying to toggle wifi. It will sometimes freeze for seconds at a time, and the app will usually FC. It's been super frustrating because I don't have any of those issues on the same nightly for my S4.

Probably i know what ur Problem is. Look up the new trim function of android 4.3. That will probably tackle ur Problem. Basically its sort of fragmentation of the memory. You may factory reset if the problem persists because toggling wifi is such a simple task it should never lag. Cm has no stable 4.3 Version yet. I recommend flaming monkey rom, its lean light and fast (basic aosp with some tweaks). You see the N10 still has the bleeding edge architecture with the A15. There are faster devices but only 2 others or so with that modern architecture

When it comes to design, the N10 really received great remarks from the November 2012 reviewers.
The soft/grippy feeling plastic actually handles great and looks good. The subtly rounded corners and edges has a great feel, no sharp edges that bite into the hands after prolonged handling.
Gave my N7 to my spouse and use the N10 as my daily tab. Been using a friends Samsung Note 10.1 2014 edition and it's real nice, but I still like the feel of the N10. Enough that I'm not rushing out to buy the 10.1 2014 edition at this time.

buying the note 3 is like going out and buying an ip5s, your stuck with what the manufacture wants you to have
Samsung can suck a hole in a wall and leave android for all i care now days, they peaked with the note 2 and now are on the hill downwards with apple
with that said, 4.1.2 is the last stop for the i717, we are way over the 18 month period and were lucky to even get 4.1.2
the Knox security is a hell of a mess from Samsung for sure , but I still got hope that will not affect the development for this device. Maybe more time but not the end . all this mess for more money in theirs pockets ..

The S4 is brilliant but the locked bootloader has cramped the phone to the point of constipation as if you got a S4 on MF 4.2.2 firmware or MK 4.3 firmware the boot loader is super locked. They even killed the service menu. So Im selling my S4 for cash + the note 1 for temp use until I see what I want next. Samsung is the only phone company left with dual storage. LG has the Optimus G pro with 32GB and an SD card slot, but with the specs on that phone they will never see 4.2.2 on it.. And it's a beast of a phone...so I will take this Note 1 + $250 and call it a day until February

Do it. There is nothing better than getting a Nexus. I jumped to Nexus 4 from the Note about 10 months ago, and just upgraded to a Nexus 5. The developer support on a Nexus is amazing. I could have easily stuck with the Nexus 4 for another year, but the lack of LTE was bothering me a bit. A Nexus phone is pure gold. By the time the Note got to be the age that my Nexus 4 was at, I was tired of it. Don't give another dime to Samsung, who will spend it on rewriting perfectly good android code into buggy bloatware. Don't let the lack of sd card bother you. I have lived with 16 GB storage without any issue, and Nexus 5 comes in 32 GB too, for just $50 more.
