If her phone is rooted. Then flash Cm10 from Recovery and gapps too after doing full wipe. And reboot.

Sweet. I've used ROM manager for my sister's Tab 7 2.0, and it worked perfectly, I just don't want to kill my friend's phone! I forgot how to use ODIN and Fastboot, so I'm feeling lazy. The Droid Bionic I have isn't like that.
Do I have to flash any radios?
I would suggest avoiding ROM manager as it has been reported to mess up your recovery in the S2.
Flash a custom kernel instead.

U can flash radios (or modems) if you need to, but most ROMs come with their own modems which should work pretty well indeed.

Also, what SGS2 variant are we talking about (model number) ? You may well be in the wrong forum (given the I9100 wasn't sold in the US by carriers), last thing you want is inaccurate advice.
I was in the right thread, she's from Turkey! I used ROM manager, installed recovery and Cyanogenmod. I forgot the radios, but she got those flashed.
Pro tip: Stay away from Rom Manager on the I9100. If you/she continues to use it, it will eventually either break recovery and/or cause bootloop, requiring an Odin flash to fix. The advice is to uninstall Rom Manager, CWRecovery has everything you need.

I'm on stock 4.1.2 (XXLS8), and have root (got it with that method of flashing update.zip through stock recovery). now I'd like to get ParanoidAndroid. afaik, I have to have CWM to install it. so, is it possible to flash siyah kernel (it includes CWM, right?) through mobile odin, and then flash Paranoid? I don't really care about which kernel I have, so maybe there are also easier/better ways to achieve what I want? thanks.

Yes, it is possible. And after flashing PA, u will end up with the kernel in PA Rom, and not the siyah u flashed.
U can also use temporary CWM zips (available on xda) to flash PA. Then u can skip the step of flashing Siyah kernel.
Backing up ur current rom is also a good practice, in case u end up with problems after flashing...

Ur welcome.
Recoveries are linked to kernels. So u would get whatever recovery comes bundled with the kernel of PA rom (u can find it out from the PA thread). :thumbup:

selected i9100 in list.
copied the avatarmod to root of my sdcard
reboot into recoverymodus
wiped factory/cache
then...searched for the rom on sdcard....NOTHING.
reboot, now my phone is fresh, clockwork not there anymore.......

Did u flash CWM recovery from ROM Manager? If not, u still have stock recovery!
Stock recovery can only flash zips on the external sd card, not internal sd.

ok it looks like I at least didnt damage anything.
So, now im rooted like this method........but I heared about this problems with CWM too. So I try to read more and make it with ODIN
Can you perhaps point me on a good tut 4 for flashing with Odin if root is already there ?
There are so many tutorials and I find it kind of confusing which to follow.

EDIT: I did do something from CWM......it asked me for my model and I chose I9100. But in the list it was also Galaxy S2, so I was unsure. Then it did something. Did he perhaps flash the wrong revocerymanager and get me problems then going on now flashing with Odin ?

This is if your model if is GT I9100 (not GT I9100g)
Upgrade with pc odin to a newer original samsung firmware (ics or jb) from here

He can just flash siyahs2-v.2.6.14 straight with odin from GB, to get rooted and cwm.

No, its not a problem, even if you did have warranty.The binary counter and yellow triangle show samsung that something had been flashed to phone, so they can refuse your warranty.
But before you would send it back for warranty, you would remove the signs of flashing.If you cant (like mb bricked); then samsung cant see what you have done.
Anyway, if you were on ICS, you can use triangle away app, and use a jig for GB.And flashing by recovery doesnt add the binary counter, that is why the other chap is recommending that.
You dont need to worry now, but the jig is also handy for booting phone into download mode.....like if your home button is faulty.

I'm going to flash a german Stock ROM (I9100XWLQ2) now. And after that I study this thread to flash Philz-cwm6 kernel. From there it should be easy to try customROMs like I want.
Thx for the tip with siyah but I think i go this way, because if i manage this I can help a friend to do this too, and he has a newer ROM

You can use the method you think whats best for you.
But you should be aware of this;
1.before you do anything make sure you have Odin/drivers installed on your pc in case you need it fast.
2.when you get cwm, do a nand backup and make efs backup.
3.read some guides and have a quick look through the titles in this forum and youll see what goes wrong when you start flashing etc.....LOL

I chose to update to ICS first, then root and CWM after that...
So, even after a number of flashes of custom roms and kernels, my counter still rests at 0.

my Problem is SOLVED !!
What I did:
first flashed german STOCK ROM v4.0.4 via Odin.
Then I used the signed kernel with CWM6 integrated from Philz.....used the stock recovery mode.
Then I flashed the AVATAR-Rom from CWM
HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY !!!

Hello, first off i have read through loads of pages, been trying to figure things out for days, but the vast amount of info gets a little confusing, and just looking for a little more help, I have s2 i9100P XXLPH, running stock ics 4.0.3, i couldn't find a cf anywhere for it as the one i tried didn't work, it just stayed at the start up screen, so i downloaded the stock and flashed through Odin to bring it back to normal. I then managed to root it using ExynosAbuse, i then installed busybox. (not sure if i got it from google market or on this site) anyway I want to start trying a few roms but want to know the best way to go about this for my phone, Can i just download a SiyahKernel if so, should i download the latest SiyahKernel S2-v6.0beta4, also does this Kernel install cwm for me or do i need to download that and install it separately as i will need to make a nandroid backup. Sorry i know all this info is probably on the site but as i said it just gets confusing with reading so much stuff, i'm not new to custom roms as i put custom roms on my San Francisco and Huawei Ascend G300. Just need a little kick in the right direction

you can click that link atleast to check the difference.... have you tried the DORIMANX kernel for ICS support.... have you read about the brick bug of SGS2, better to be safe than sorry man. atleast try to find the eMMC check apk and install it to your phone before flashing a kernel. though kernels for S2 now have the eMMC_cap_erase=0. atleast try to check if you have the super brick bug on your current rom. mine just had one before you know.... it was resurrected by JTAGG deadboot option.
http://dorimanx.shine.sk/ - here is the list of the kernels of dorimanx... find the one that has ICS support....
then if the kernel worked. flash the rom you want...
note: if you chose to flash the CM10.1, dont forget to download the dorimanx kernel 9.xx, after flashing the rom JB base, flash a JB kernel.

U can flash siyah v5.0.1, and CWM recovery will be installed too. Or u can flash Dorimanx as it also comes with CWM. It doesn't matter which, because after flashing a custom ROM, the kernel and recovery is replaced by those included in that custom ROM.
U can make a nandroid backup after flashing siyah or dori, and before flashing a custom ROM.

And please note that only stock 4.0.4 firmwares with stock kernel are prone to the eMMC Brickbug. I u do have 4.0.4, you can flash a custom kernel like Siyah, and ur safe.

You can flash any I9100 ROM/kernel, you might lose NFC capability by doing it.
You've got a lot of Custom ROMs Threads in the Original Android Development Forum. You can check other users perceptions on the ROM in cuestion.
Check out the nuke scripts threads, those scripts may come in handy for clean flash as it wipes previous Custom ROMs leftovers.
It's always good to have Mobile Odin installed, enables you to flash stock ROMs very easily and in a safe manner.
You can get confused if you read a bunch of thread about a bunch of subjects.
I suggest you go from specifics topics to specifics issues related to that subject.
Q&A is a great place to learn about any issue you can get.

But how do i flash the rom without root access on the stock rom? In me experience (old xperia x8), i had to root the device to then flash a new rom. Please step by step or a link to a step to step guide

simple steps
1. download Philz kernel Latest one
2. copy the zip in sd card
3. reboot the device to stock recovery mode by pressing vol up + Home + Power button
4. install from external sd card, select the downloaded philz zip file and reboot
Now you are rooted
5. you have option to download and install any custom rom or tune the stock one

I have flashed several ROMs in the past but now I'm unable to flash a new one. I'm using I9100XWLSW, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487, and I have tried to flash the latest MIUI and CM, both I've flashed many times before with no issues.
I use the same procedure I have always used: reboot, Vol up, Power and Home buttons to get into stock recovery, search for the zip on the card, select it and try to flash it, but I always end up with the Status 7 error. I have been looking online, even edited the updater script file ( http://highonandroid.com/android-roms/how-to-fix-status-7-error-with-cwm-recovery-on-rooted-android/ ) to no avail.
I have tried to use Rom Manager installing it from the Market, rebooting into recovery and installing recovery-clockwork-4.0.1.5 and, recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.1.5... Nothing works.
The only solution I have come up to is to flash Siyah kernel Siyah-s2-v6.0b5 and then install the ROMs, but I want to use ROM'S own kernel.
I don't know how to make Siyah's go away without flashing Samsung stock ROM via Odin, btw.

That is obvious because you are trying to flash a custom ROM in stock recovery! You need a custom recovery to do that.

What do you mean by that? Since you're on stock rom now, the stock kernel will only give u stock recovery. You need to change your kernel to get a custom recovery. If you think Siyah is too custom, go for Philz kernels which are stock based.

Siyah's kernel will be replaced by the kernel included in the ROM you are flashing. If you want a stock kernel, then flash a stock kernel using Odin.

Actually it's not replaced. The "eye" is still there when I reboot into recovery and the name of the kernel shows when I look in the Settings > About device tab of the ROM. The only way to get rid of it has been returning to stock.

You can't install a custom recovery without flashing a custom kernel. But you can get a temporary custom recovery which has to be flashed after each reboot. That doesn't require flashing a kernel.

Actually it's not replaced. The "eye" is still there when I reboot into recovery and the name of the kernel shows when I look in the Settings > About device tab of the ROM. The only way to get rid of it has been returning to stock.

That's not possible unless the new ROM you're flashing includes Siyah kernel.

Usually, kernels are got as .tar files, which can be flashed in PDA section of Odin. I believe you can also flash kernels using Mobile Odin or CWM Manager too.

What I finally did was to flash GT-I9100_JB_ClockworkMod-Recovery_6.0.2.9 over the stock fw. I deleted cache and dalvik before I rebooted but I got the usual start sound and a blank (black) screen. Anyway, I could connect the phone to the computer via usb, put the CM ROM into the phone's external card, reboot into recovery mode and flash the new ROM just fine.
