I havent been to this site in quite a while. I just purchased a galaxy s4 and came from a galaxy s1.
I would like to change the notifications when it comes to text messaging, missed call, email, and app notifcations
I want text messages to be different from the others
Specifically, I would like text messages to be blue LED+vibration+my tone.
missed calls: blue LED
email and apps: no tone or vibration just yellow LED
is this possible?

You can use LightFlow to do this.

I'm finding I'm missing loads of text messages & would love it if the phone would alert me repeatedly until I finally notice the sms and read it.
I have dug around the phones menus but with no luck. Not sure if I'm just missing it as I'm new to Android (loving It).
Is their a setting to enable this feature or will I just have to choose a longer/louder sms notification sound.
Thanks.
use handcent SMS, you can set how long the phone should vibrate, and I also recommend NoLED
Sent from my Galaxy S2 using Tapatalk
Thanks, I'll take a look at those.
also SMS Popup, which I prefer to Handcent...
Thanks, gonna have a play around with both and see which i prefer.
SMS!Alert
You can try SMS!Alert.
Allow you to create custom alerts based on SMS messages, enter a incoming phone number and/or keyword filter, when someone sends a SMS with the keyword filter text or if incoming phone number matches, phone will display sound alert.
Hi Everyone,
I keep having the following problem with my Galaxy S2.
In the standard mail app, I've selected the option to make a notification in the status bar when I've got a new mail, I've selected the silent ring tone, and vibrate is on always.
The phone itself is also in silent mode.
I keep ketting a sound when I've got a new mail, and its annoyingly loud. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Only when the option to make a notification is not checked, I do not get a sound. But then there is no notification, and no orange bubble with the number of new unread mails.
Can anyone help me?
- some extra info: standard samsung rom, not rooted.

Update: I still have not found where I can turn off the sound. A new SMS makes the same noice. It is annoying as hell and I'm close to hitting the miserable piece of **** with a hammer.
Hey guys,
I’m having a few issues getting the LED notifications on my Xperia S to work exactly how I want them to… its not surprising really seeing as though I have 3 apps which minitor my notifications – and two of them have control of the LED notification light.
What I would like to have is:
- LED notification light blinking when I have a new SMS or have a missed call
- MissedIt notifications for missed calls and new SMS displayed on WidgetLocker lock screen
- SMS Popup for popup SMS notifications with quick reply feature.
So…using these 3 apps (Light Flow + MissedIt + SMS Popup) I was hoping I would be able to achieve the desired results… not so.
It seems that while Light Flow and SMS Popup are running together, the notification LED cannot be used. If I disable LightFlow… I cant get SMS Popup to use the notification LED for SMS only (no missed call LED). If I disable SMS Popup… I can get the LED to alert me for both missed calls and new SMSs (but no popup window for new SMS).
I was just wondering what everyone else does. It seems there is a conflict between to two apps – do you guys have any alternative suggestions?
Thanks for any help.

Set "alternate off monitoring " on in the lightflow sms notification. That should work.
Hi,
Is there a way to set different text message notification sounds for different contacts? I'm not referring to ringtones. Using the same notification sound for all text messages makes each incoming text a priority to check. Coming from a Note II I was able to assign distinct notification sounds for all contacts (ringtones and text messages).
Thanks.

You might need to download a different text message app on the play store to do that. I don't think you can do that on stock ones
Sent from my C6806_GPe using XDA Premium HD app
You can do that with GoSMS Pro https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jb.gosms
Thank you for the responses.

I use an app called Ringo for ringtone and message tone management.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.electricpocket.ringo&hl=en_GB
iirc Hangouts now has that option to have individual ringtones for messages received
either that, or you can use LightFlow, it enables you to set custom notifications (and LED colors) for many apps
Xposed also has a mod for that ($-ware)
I hate that every notification except email has the same sound. How can I change so that text messages have their own notification? Right now text messages and all other random notifications share the same ringtone so I never know if I got a text message or something else.

It doesn't work. If you change it, it changes it for all notifications. Not just texts.
I just figured it out.

I had been looking for this setting for days now and I just stumbled upon it. When you are editing a contact go to the bottom of the contacts information and hit the "ADD ANOTHER FIELD" button. There you will see the ability to add the "Message Tone" field as well as specify a "Vibration Pattern" if wanted. Not sure why they didn't put the Message Tone option on the contact by default.

Mind blow.
Dude, just set any ringtone for notifications via phone settings - it'l be your sms ringtone AND for any other applications having opportunity to create notifications you should open those applications, go their settings and find there option notifications and change notifications sound directly for that application. Logic!
Binrob, I get what you are after because I did a google search for the very same thing. No one here seems to get it.
What happens is all these other apps utilize the same NOTIFICATION sound as your text messages (like Facebook, or playing back-and-forth board games). Binrob and the rest of us want our TEXT messages TO BE DIFFERENT sounding than all the others. I don't want to look at my phone every time i get a notification, but i do want to look at my phone every time someone texts me. There doesn't seem to be a way to customize SMS/TEXT to its own notification sound. Android needs to fix this.
You've answered everyone's question! This should show up #1 on Google search!

Has there been updates since to change to separate notification for all contacts?
I get this issue and NEED them to fix as well! I don't want fb messenger and text messaging and any other notification to have the same sound. I want to know what app the notification is for WITHOUT unlocking and looking at my phone. Also, on my s5 I was able to change my led color for specific apps. If it blinking red I knew it was a text. Blinking green fb message. Blinking blue fb notification. Etc! Please add those back!
You CAN set the sound for messages, go to settings, notifications, advanced ......... choose messages, more settings (at the bottom of the screen), and the next screen is where you change the sound that is made. Not exactly user friendly though!
I think the answer is as simple.as: go to your message app, top right hit: more, Then go to settings and set whatever ringtone you want to have under notifications. I guess this should be what you are looking for.
Cheers

notificaton tone in message+
The comment that you can set message tones In contacts is correct except that apps like message+ , at least on the Galaxy , ignore that and use their own tones
I just found it....
open messages on the right top corner click there and pick customize ando under tones and there u can pick whatever ringtone for only SMS....
FOR SAMSUNG S9/S9+. To have a specific sound for you messages, go to messaging app/setting/notifications/general notications must be off/emergency alerts must be off. Go to new messages and choose your preferred sounds.
