Google Search - Latest Update
v3.1.8
Changes:
It officially brings Search version 3 (3.1.8 to be exact) that shipped in KitKat to all devices running 4.1+. This includes an updated UI, new refresh animation, among other things.
Because Search houses the Google Experience Launcher (GEL) inside, this update also brings GEL to all devices running Android 4.1+. All you need to do after installing Search 3.1.8 is install the launcher app from here, and voila - GEL for all, not just KitKat devices. I have it running on 4.1, 4.3, and 4.4 on both phones and tablets, and it finally looks perfect.
As I mentioned above, 3.1.8 completely fixes the wonky GEL layout on tablets. As you may have seen yesterday, several things on the Nexus 7, for example, were out of whack - the keyboard was popping when you tapped Home, the icons were old, and the Search box was off-center. All fixed.
Remember: GEL does support transparency in the navigation and status bars, but you need KitKat for that to work. And Google disabled it system-wide on the Nexus 10.
New cards:
Website update card
News topic card
What to watch card
Traffic incidents using Waze on maps.
Recurring reminders.
Real-time scores for rugby teams
See when your packages are ready for in-store pickup.
You can now bring back dismissed cards by pressing Undo.

It is not a zip, it is an APK if you have it as a .zip then rename it to a .apk or use a better browser to download the file.
Thanks for posting this, great app.
Just installed, worked great. Google Docs + Dropbox support = awesome~
Thanks!
Will try this when I get home, but I have a quick question in the meantime.
I have the paid version of Quick Office, do you think I can use the paid features with this apk, like creating a new office document?

Does it look like the screenshots that are in the market?? I use Document to go 3, but I have noticed that is look better on phones than in tablets...
The QuickOffice HD apk on this thread is like the paid version, has all the features included. The only reason this apk is here is because for whatever reason QuickOffice still have not released a paid for version of this tablet specific app.
Normal QuickOffice is designed just for phones, this is a tablet special version.
Thanks for this. Works very well.
Just got extra brownie points after installing this on the other halfs Vega!
This is great for the vega, the dropbox/google docs link is such a great feature! What about the other Norton Ink apps...are they any good on the vega?
If this keybaord/mouse/stand combo works on the vega...it would be perfect for editing on the go!

I believe this is now in the market as a paid for app, if someone can confirm then I will remove the link in the first post as it will now be in breach of xda's rules.

There's a quick office pro HD in the market place.
Not sure what the differences are, other than the version I tried can't be installed on anything other than Android 3.0
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.qo.android.tablet.am&feature=search_result
Thanks. I've been told samsung galaxy phone owners get this for free.
Does the normal quick office not stretch then... or do you need the HD version
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA
HD version is much better optimized for tablets (from UI perspective).
You get to see more options right away, but apart from that Pro and HD should be the same.
I'm currently using Pro version on my tablet, because I'm still in Froyo, but I also got a HD v1.0.1 that worked in Froyo, but was full of bugs.

cool, thanks. works well
Not sure why I had issues but I had to roll back the version. It looked great when I first installed it but I took a trip to a store in Austin and ugh what crap. I'm glad I had Waze to get me through!
It would force close between switching from maps to nav in portrait mode then every time I would turn the screen off it would be back to the choose route step. I don't know if it was me continually restarting the app but it chewed up my battery about 40% in 45 minutes!
Now I'm afraid to update it via play.

OP UPDATED :good:
i have 7.0.2 installed, what is the difference?
7.1 is on Google Play market.....
Is this not available in Play store or is anything different?
I like the new graphics, BUT I'm not a fan of the new shortcuts and menu and alternative routing options.
Maybe I'm resistant to change, but I prefer the setup of 6.x. Not worth losing options for slightly better graphics.

UPDATE: Version 8.0.0 is out! More info @ second post.. OP will be updated tomorrow
Hey guys I just found out about Google Maps v7.0.0! Please note that I have personally tried this app before making this thread
INTRODUCTION:
This is a new version of Google Maps with a completely new look and also comes with many new functions... try it out if you want to... Just Download and Install it like a Normal .apk file :fingers-crossed:
One more thing... Before you start trying out Google Maps 7.0, I strongly recommend that you backup your current version of Google Maps first (use Titanium Backup or any other app for backup).
WHAT'S NEW:
This update will gradually be rolled out very soon, although some people have already received the update via Google Play. Anyways the main highlights of Google Maps 7.0.0 are:
- New design for Android phones and tablets
- Enhanced navigation including live traffic updates, incident reports and dynamic rerouting
- A new way to browse and discover popular local places to eat, drink, shop, play and sleep
- And much more!
THE WEAKPOINTS:
- The Offline Maps feature has "somewhat" been removed.. But you can still cache some part of the map you are viewing by typing (or saying) "OK Maps" to get it to cache that part of the map. However, it doesn't store as large of area/map as before and there is no way to list or manage your cached local maps.
- Some people reported that Navigation is a bit buggy
- No more Google Latitude
- No more zoom buttons on the map, as you must now rely on pinch-to-zoom or double-tapping to change the magnification of the map. If you try to use Google Maps one-handed, you'll find zooming to be next to impossible.
- No access to "My Places" or "My Maps".So you won't have access to your custom routes and maps if you upgrade to 7.0.
Lets hope all these issues are fixed in future releases or updates...

Sorry, no. Maps 9.0 doesn't run so well or smoothly on older phones like ours. If you want a no-lag version of Google Maps, then I think you should downgrade to version 6 (or 7). I know its old and has lesser features, but it runs well on old phones quite well afaik.

Hi to everyone,

Google Now, Everwhere.
With Open Mic+ for Google Now, access all the commands from anywhere on your phone. Simply say "Okay Google" or wave your hand in front of the screen. Screen on, screen off Google Now will be ready to listen.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
Google Now becomes more conversational as after a search just say Okay Google to start a new one. And even better get the answers to your questions while your hands are tied, or when you're on the couch, or in the car.
TOMORROW'S FEATURES TODAY
Everybody's talking about the new Open Mic features for the Moto X, but now any phone that is running Jelly Bean or higher can have the same experience.
SEAMLESS
Open Mic+ will run in the background and can be configured to start at boot so that it truly becomes part of the phone.
OFFLINE
Open Mic+ uses offline voice recognition which means less data usage and faster results.
100% FREE
We saved the best for last. Open Mic+ has no ads, no in-app purchases, and is free to download. So why are you still reading this? Try Open Mic+ for Google Now.
I installed it and it is working smoothly yet but the developer looks promosing... and the application too! You can check it out here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.RSen.OpenMic

This is an awesome idea!
Tested on the Motorola RAZR M running 4.3.
Great combination with ActiveNotifications (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.greatbytes.activenotifications)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Is there a way to theme this app to match the new always listening feature on the new Motorola X?
The tasker integration seems not working. It keeps going back to Google now instead of my Tasker task. Of course my Tasker allows external access. Please help as this is a huge thing for me.
this seems to have disappeared from Play?
Not on the play store. Would someone kindly post the apk?
You all are way better off following development on the Google+ page: https://plus.google.com/112424215551484520138/posts. This post isn't official.
It's been removed from the Play Store but you can still get it on the Amazon App Store. http://www.amazon.com/Open-Mic-for-Google-Now/dp/B00F106RGU/
It'd be nice if he would post his updates and stuff in here like many devs do

Useful implementation! Most of apps are correctly open in foreground in the smartphone/tablet after a shake.
It works fine to toggle device connections. Yes, some bugs like transfer clipboard
Good job at the moment

Yes I will squash some bugs and new implementation with Shake next week. New preview with Google Play and LG AppWorld might come next weekend.
By the way, any testers on JB? I do have devices on KitKat and Lollipop devices but no prehistoric Android versions...
Alright guys after dozens of commits and thousands of lines in code, most of the app is done. Right now only couple of stuff is pending. So apologies but I won't be releasing another preview it will be delayed till release date.
You can check my progress on G+ with some of its teases also a brand new community has been created. This thread and specially the OP will be cleansed soon too.
See you!
Everything is finished and ready for the next phase in the competition! The app is already in the play store and is being reviewed on the LG Appworld but there's no ETA. Please check the Original Post for extra information. Also please don't hesitate to join the community and help us by translating it to your main language!
By the way bear in mind that soon you'll be able to choose your favorite app, so stay HubToDate!
