[Q] How to check whether a phone is brand new?

Hello I'm going to buy a Sprint Evo 3D from craigslist tomorrow. The seller said the phone is brand new and was never used. I know that I can dial ##786# to see whether it was activated before and how many calls were made on it. I'm wondering whether there is a way to reset these information so that the seller can fake a used phone to be brand new. I'm new to android so please help! Thank you!
Meet the guy at a Sprint Store.

I don't think that into can be faked, but could be wrong

Dial ##3282# make sure the data profile is empty, why not just ask Sprint has that esn ever been attached to an account

Carrier unlock?

Hi there, does anyone know if it's possible to unlock this phone yet? Since the phone is so new, I have absolutely no idea if these codes being sold through eBay will work.
Thanks

They prob will. Just make sure you pay via paypal. Then if anything goes wrong, you have some comeback.

I bought mine through O2 and oddly enough, it was unlocked so I didn't have to get a code. Before I realised it was unlocked though I did try 2 sites for a code, neither had it.
My current HTC Sensation was purchased first day it was released and I had to wait 2 weeks for the codes to become available. I would guess this would be similar.

I do unlock phones for a price. I can run a check with your IMEI number and tell you if it can be unlocked or not and how much it'll cost. Shoot me a PM if you want me to check your IMEI number. I'm a dev and not some shady guy lol
I did try to buy one off eBay but the guy said the phone is on no system at the minute and refunded me. I'm just using a giffgaff sim now which suits me as I was considering paying off my contract early anyway. I'll probably try again in a month.

I believe you're looking for the htcdev website. New member, unable to post links, just google it.
I'm looking for sim unlock

I'm in the same boat. Purchased at no commitment price, and AT&T is unable/unwilling to give me the unlock code. Kind of annoying!
That's AT&T for you. I've tried in numerous phones to get my SIM unlocked and no go...

That hasn't been my experience with them. I just got an unlock code for my old HTC Aria when I got the One X. Just went to their website and used the support chat feature. Now if your phone is subsidized you may have trouble.

I wonder if that was the issue. Because I always have been under contract when trying. Thanks for the heads up.

You might try calling them and telling them you are planning a trip outside the country and need to SIM unlock so you can use a prepaid SIM. That has worked for others in the past.
Good luck!
I SIM unlock phones and they aren't free. I buy and resell the codes. Shoot me your IMEI number, the country and carrier it is locked to in a PM. I'll see if it can be unlocked. If it can be, it will be a bit pricey since they just released a new service for HTC phones.
Need to unlock!!

Talk to hasoon, he should be able to help
I think the main reason you can't unlock your phone is that ATT won't let you unlock it when your using the phone while your on a plan. When you upgrade to a new phone or change phones then you can unlock your old one. Source: experience

Hasoon is a great guy and I'v talked to him.
Unfortunately, he cant help.
I talked to AT&T international (1-800-335-4685). I'v heard they are pretty relaxed about unlocking phones.
Also, I bought mine at the no-commitment price.
The rep on the phone agreed to unlock my X+ and asked for my IMEI#. But after he put it into the system, he said AT&T can't unlock it till May 16th 2013.
I'v heard AT&T tends to do this when it has an exclusive phone.
But this might just be me. You guys should try this and see if it works.
Still no luck ...anyone ?

Try canada unlock gsm. it worked out for mine. Maybe he can unlock the at&t model. Anyway he was the only one capable of unlocking mine when everyone said no.

[Q] AT&T One X+ SIM unlock

Hello everybody,
I am thinking of buying a brand new never used One X+ locked to AT&T and bring it down to Uruguay.
Couple of questions:
1) Does anybody know if the device needs to be activated first with an AT&T SIM before I can do anything with it (for example SIM unlocking it)?
2) Are SIM unlock codes for AT&T network for this device easy to find (assuming I am OK in paying a couple of dollars for it)?
3) Which is the best place to get the unlock code?
Thank you all for your help.
It may not be that easy to unlock it.
No it doesn't need to be activated first but since here in the US its now illegal to unlock your phone they may make it more difficult to find unlock codes for their phones
Slithered from my HTC One X+
Thank you SUPERCHILPIL for you answer.
From this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2003678&page=5
looks like november 2012 unlock codes was released and it is easy to get them. Do you think this has changed?
I do not want to spend 550 USD on a phone that I cannot use
Thanks again.

Probably not, if you got to a reputable site they will refund your money if the code doesn't work or if they don't have one for your device

I also used cellunlocker.net last night. Charged me $15 and I had the unlock code within an hour. Worked perfectly. Amazing.

Cellunlocker.net worked fine for me. Took about 18 hours and cost $15. No problem.
Now I wish they didn't charge $30 to do my iPhone 5

HTC One Blacklisted?

I usually trade my phone on Craigslist, but lately I've been wary of phones purchased on value plans as they can be blacklisted if the original owner defaults on payments. So with this new uncarrier thing is it the same principle? As in if I trade for an HTC One can it be blacklisted if payments are not made? Thanks for any replies!
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda app-developers app
Yes it will be blacklisted. Your best bet is to meet at T-Mobile with someone to verify that the device is fully paid for and not stolen
That's what I was thinking, thanks for the reply!

Tmobile doesn't blacklist phones.

Actually there's a new federal law that is either in effect or coming soon , they are making ,all stores and these second hand cell shops make customers that sell them a used phone to sign an addendum form and copy liscense ..this way if the phones stolen or black listed it's all on you ......The days of buying a phone to resell and blacklist It the same day are over , soon even if your phone's blacklisted it won't even be able to work on any carrier at all ,no more using simple mobile on a bad imei phone or tmo on a bad imei att device .
Government is fed up ,it's a huge loss .
Anyones best bet is to avoid any used phone ..... buy yourself a new one and keep it yours .

Ummm...AT&T & T-Mobile have been sharing blacklists since the end of last year, so any GSM carrier that is tied to them is also blocking those IMEIs.
www.checkesnfree.com has a GSM Blacklist database. input the IMEI and it will tell you if its been blacklisted
