Every link you click on from Tapatalk seems to be passed through link2.tapatalk.com.
If you go directly to the website, it shows the following:

This is happening even in the paid version of the Tapatalk.

That's fine. Looks lazy but not shady
With this, Aren't they capable of capturing recording all links we click on in Tapatalk?
Very shady I think. I'm sure I've never seen a warning telling us (the users) they do that. (Perhaps it's in the small print?)
Is it possible to remove this from the app?
Not only is it shady, but it is also very annoying that it prevents any other apps besides web browsers from handling the intent sent when clicking a link. For instance when I click on a YouTube link, YouTube doesn't show up in the list of apps that can handle it because the URL is to the tapatalk website.
It is very disappointing that it breaks the functionality of intents...

Interesting. Thanks for the info.
We should write to tapatalk to complain to them

..and now you should think about the word "privacy" and what it means to you. :silly:
This has bothered me since I installed Tapatalk a few weeks ago so i decided to write an app to fix it today. I've uploaded it to GitHub and will try to get an apk on the Play Store some time soon.
https://github.com/stuartcallison/Tapatalk-URL-Fixer
This app will receive the Intents created by clicking a link in Tapatalk, extract the intended URL, and send out a new Intent. This prevents your URLs from being sent to tapatalk.com, and also restores the functionality of letting different apps handle intents for certain URLs. For example, when you click on a YouTube or Wikipedia link in tapatalk with this URL fixer installed, you will now be able to choose the right app to handle the Intent instead of being forced to use a browser.
To use this
make sure that you clear defaults for whichever app you previously selected to handle the intents from Tapatalk links (probably your browser)
Click a link in Tapatalk, and choose "Tapatalk URL Fixer" to always handle this type of Intent
Now whenever you click on a link in tapatalk you will be presented with the real set of applications that can handle that URL. URLs will no longer be redirected through tapatalk.com
has the apk been uploaded? or do we have to compile ourselves?
Btw, I'm still surprised, I'm the first one to rise this issue on this forum.....
This TapaTalk has been out how many years ago?
Does this say something about how little people care about their privacy being snooped by unknown entities or what?

Well on the one hand it seems pretty shady that they are collecting all URLs clicked within tapatalk and selling them to a third party... But on the other hand you are using their closed source app for your forum browsing already. I just assumed that everything you do in the tapatalk app is known to them automatically. I haven't done much digging but I wouldn't be surprised if more than just external URLs are being sent to their servers.
Fixing the functionality of intent filtering with tapatalk links was my primary motivation for making this app, but added privacy is always nice.

Sorry for the delay, I was away from the computer for a few days. Give this a try and let me know how it works for you. If everything seems alright I will make a new thread.
Install TapatalkURLFixer.apk
If you have a default application set to handle the Intents from clicking links in Tapatalk posts, clear it ( probably your browser )
Click a link in a tapatalk post and select Tapatalk URL Fixer from the list of options
You should then be presented with another list of options to handle the real URL ( not through tapatalk.com )
If you select Tapatalk URL Fixer to be the default handler of these intents then you shouldn't even notice it after the first time you select it.
Noticed this recently as well and glad to have stumbled on this thread at the perfect time that the fix was released. Thanks.
Works perfectly, thanks!

Not sure I see a difference.

That YouTube link still launches a list of browsers first even when URLFixer is default.

Unlikely... At announcement they said it was just for web browsers (at least for the moment anyway)
When I browse from the main page of most websites down into an article I have to hit the back button 3 times fast just to get back out to the main site. I assume this is due to the ads on the header/footer refreshing every few seconds.
Does everyone have this problem? Its getting really hard to live with.
Tested on Task650 and overcome roms, same result. Example sites: engadget.com, theverge.com

are you using the "android" or "desktop" UAString? Just a thought but it could be that there a multiple of redirect pages from the main page to the article via "mobile browser detected, redirecting to m.site.com" or something?
Normally i use the desktop string, but now I'm using the ipad string with the same result. I should also note that the same exact pages work fine on my galaxy nexus.

Yes I get those too, rather annoying. I hope its just the site and not some app or virus.
I just got one
This happens to me every now and again, and its happened on XDA more than once.
I took a screenshot just now when it happened.
It only pops up in the browser so I assume it is most likely an ad, but it is also aware of my location.
It goes here:
gotfreebies . org/contest/au-ipad-contest/index.php?c=AU-s2
(I'm not allowed to post links so I added spaces)
It's seriously annoying and I sincerely hope something can be done about it.
I'm using a Galaxy tab 8.9 over wifi.
XDA has gotten a lot of ads lately. I hate the flash ads that play at the bottom of the screen with sound. I tend to have a few XDA tabs open and its super annoying trying to find the one thats playing.
Banner ads and flash ads don't bother me that much but these freebie.org ads just fill the entire screen on my phone. Now that is seriously annoying
had same issue. restart solved it for me.

Getting the same ads very annyoing like a pc browser hijacker redirects browser to their site get it mainly on xda but have had it 1 or 2 times on other sites.
Would be nice to know whether this Is an XDA ad or a virus.
I also get it, only on xda. I use ICS+ Browser. Very annoying.
The flash ads with sound on my desktop are extremely annoying as well. I too open multiple windows at once, and it is a real pain trying to find the noisy window.
It is an ad. It is harmless.

Is it an official xda ad? Why do they make it behave just like malware? That's what browser hijackers do. I've never seen official ads do anything as obtrusive as that.
I am getting tired of these ads, there is another similar or maybe associated ad for a site called 'mobrewards.org' too.
I get them on other phone related sites as well, just now I got one on phonearena.
I have found the google adwords complaint page and I'm going to submit a complaint.
Maybe if we all do then they'll do something about it.

The ad seems to be a browser popup, it is not associated with any apps.
It is targeted towards mobile users and it seems to only occur when using a mobile device.
If you search online for gotfreebies.org or mobrewards.org you will see that the problem is experienced by Android and iPhone users.
these ads are the ones which remind me to enable ad blocking after flashing a new firmware. adaway and root are your friends

Hey guys,
I have owned a bunch of Android since the original my touch and something has bugging me like crazy- how do you actually save a default application to open a file type? For instance, when I do a Google search on something and click a youtube video, it asks me every time which app to open it with even though I always select the YouTube to set as default lol. Any help would be awesome!

When you click the YouTube video a menu should come up saying complete action using: and then select the YouTube applicaiton and make sure you hit press Always rather then the Just Once button. If this is what you are doing already, I would recommend going into system settings clearing the default's for that app under the application manger section than the app you want, and doing the action again so it re-asks what you want to use as default. Let me know if you still have questions I'll be happy to help you out.
Thanks and sorry for the late reply. I cleared the app data and this worked...to a degree. For example, if I am to open a link for an ecigarette forums through google search results and choose tapatalk as default it will remember to open the ecig forums that way, but if I were to open the next forums like xbox gaming, it will ask me again which program to open as default. Is this intended or am I still doing something wrong?
Thanks again!

A small module that replaces a resource value in Spotify to enable tablet mode.
As such it will enable unlimited skips and also allow you to choose the song to play (as oppose to shuffle).
Instruction:
Install APK
Enable Module
Reboot (Soft Reboot)
Enjoy The 4am Music Playlist
Though There isn't much to how this module works, I'll release the source code once I get the chance.
.... knowing myself...it could easily be a month,2,3 before i post the code to github... but this is faster.. so here it is.
Code:
public class sskip implements IXposedHookInitPackageResources {
@Override
public void handleInitPackageResources(XC_InitPackageResources.InitPackageResourcesParam lpparam) throws Throwable {
if (!lpparam.packageName.equals("com.spotify.music"))
return;
lpparam.res.setReplacement("com.spotify.music", "bool", "is_tablet", true);
}
}
Code:
ChangeLog:
1.0: inital Release
1.0.1: Fix: no longer compile Xposed Library
1.0.2: Removed appcompat library (not needed, waste of size/space)
Now Available on Xposed Repo.
Thanks for releasing this, it doesn't seem to work with the spotify 3.1.x betas, or 3.0.x from the playstore, does this only work on older versions?
How is this not a breach of the rules of xda and illegal?
Edit: I'm happy if it isn't, I just wonder how that's possible.
Doesn't work for me neither btw.

I have 3.0.0.1124 and its working fine... I've also just updated to 3.1.0.1093 and that also works.
can you post your xposed log "adb pull /data/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/log/error.log"
also what phomes are you using, screen size might also be taken into account before enabling tablet mode.
As for the legality, I'm not entirely sure....
This feature while part of the premium package, is also available to tablet users free... with or without this, merely changing the DPI you can enable it.
anyway, ill contact a mod and see what they make of it.

Hey guys,
To clear things up: we're allowing this module to stay on XDA since it only "spoofs" your device to appear as a tablet to Spotify (more importantly, it doesn't remove the ads or provide any other premium features).
Cheers,

Why exactly is this apk 1mb big? With the source code you posted including some default xposed stuff this should be way smaller than 100kb. Are you generating a release apk? Are you maybe including some (unnecessary) support libraries?

I don't think there is a specific module,
Adfree would just block ad hosting sites, thus the app can't load them.
