[Q] Samsung Galaxy S3 (UK) Blocked? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
Well where to I begin. Well to start I have been trying to fix a Samsung Galaxy S3 since two days ago and I have had absolutely nothing but headaches for most of that time. My friend came to me and asked me to fix the phone. I fear that it is IMEI blocked by the network (It was on 3 for the UK and when I unlocked it it went to GiffGaff in the UK) but it had been working for about a year before this and I am not sure why it has been blocked now. The phone just keeps on saying "Not registered on network for the Sim card inserted in it for Giff Gaff)
I have tried to see if there was something wrong with the IMEI number but as far as I can see the phone has the right number with it.
I am wondering what else I can do because I have tried factory resetting it, using the EFS professional incase it had something to do with the EFS, though I don't think it does.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks a million.

yep mate phone defo blocked you will have to change imei to get it working again.

Changing IMEI is illegal and forbidden on XDA .
Google IMEI checker see if it registers as blocked .
Then go and read the faqs and guide or pay for a service repair .
Basics read first.

So you've got your SIM card in. And whatever you do it still asks you to insert one.
Correct?
Try another sim card .

Two entirely unhelpful responses so far, maybe I can at least get you looking in the right direction. In Settings --> About phone --> Status, is your correct IMEI displayed?
If not, you have have a problem with your /efs. A search of these forums will bring you back some guides, some of which will tell you to try GSII_

If I understood your problem correct, jammudassir I just want to let you know that I too had this problem a couple of months after I got my phone.
Long story short it was a hardware issue so I took it to an official Samsung repair centre to have its mainboard changed. Works like a charm now!
-However you should check if its maybe just a software issue...just to avoid all the hassle

[Q] Emergency Calls Only, Yet Full Bars

So. I've had my S3 for quite awhile now currently on 3 network. Something really odd happened though.
I was able to use it normally in the morning, once I got to the afternoon it I lost all network.
The only thing that I can use to connect to anything is Wifi
Usually there would be a little "H" symbol next to my signal bar when it's full. Now there is nothing but the full signal bar.
When I pull the notification bar down I see a Emergency calls only though I have full signal
I've gone into Settings>More settings>Mobile networks>Network operators to see if I can find a way to connect. I can choose from the networks on screen. Yet it tells me Unable to connect. Try later. I select "Select automatically" which doesn't help either, as it tells me "Registered on network" WHAT NETWORK?!
The Network mode is on Auto
My Mobile Data is on.
My Apn is on "3 WAP"
I've tried rebooting the phone.
Restoring to factory settings.
Turning phone to Flight mode then off again.
Re-inserting Sim.
I've even rooted the phone to see if it would work!!
Can anyone help me solve this ridiculous puzzle? :crying:
Thank you for your time.
Mine is the same. On 3UK in Leicester

Last time I hd this issue, it was caused by a faulty SIM.
I think you have some really bad news. I looks like your efs folder is messed up.
you need send it back if in warranty.
otherwise you can get it repaired from some service centre. They will use SPT or some other repair tool to fix this issue.
You see full bars because you phone uses any available signals for SOS call.
Otherwise it will not lock to network.

Hi! since you are new here, have you read the Forum Rules? not that you've done something wrong but just to get you informed
Here are some suggestions i can give you
okay. if ONE fails, do TWO. if TWO fails, do THREE. if THREE fails, do FOUR.
ONE: reboot
TWO: try doing factory reset (don't forget to backup) / wiping caches
THREE: root your phone and flash another modem
FOUR: contact your network service provider about this matter
i hope this helps Cheers!
samsung galaxy s3 i9300 sim registers but only emergency calls
In my case (sgs3) the problem was caused by the fact that I also formatted the efs partition (something used by Samsung to store hardware identifiaction like IMEI, ...).
If efs is empty/gone/changed(?), the phone will be unable to make regular calls: only emergency calls will be available!
Peace!

why exactly did you resurrect a 4 months old thread?
Cos people run into the same problem all the time and that no permanent/clear solution is available. Any info is good, even if it's just to say that there is no solution yet

But this efs issue has been answered many, many times in the forum - usually people wrecking their £500 phone because they didn't read or understand what they were doing.
This forum is messy enough without needlessly bumping long dead threads that didn't have anything of use in. If people want really helpful information they should read the all-in-one sticky in the general forum.

Ok you're right, everyone should read sticky notes and try keep the forum tidy. Look, I don't want to go too off-track here but this problem is not just limited to Samsung handsets. I'm seeing similar reports about Sony's, which is what i've got. And there is no efs partition that can be saved on a sony because they don't come with one. I'm beginning to suspect that the problem might be with ICS/JB and this is why it's poping up on different phones/threads, with different roms etc.

[Q] Yet another IMEI Barred Samsung Galaxy ALIVE!!!

A while back one of my customers found a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S2 at a bus stop which she handed in at the local police station. Last week she went back to see if it had been claimed and it had not so the police released the phone to my customer to keep as her own property.
She was aware that it was blocked but wanted to give it to her child to use as an android game device but when she told me about it I said I would have a look at it for her to check it was defiantly blocked.
On trying all network SIM cards I could only get the 'Emergency calls Only' notice. I did a Checkmend report and the device was still listed as stolen and blocked (the police have given her entitlement paperwork for the phone which I have seen) so I guessed it would be out of the question ever being able to use it as a phone again.
I decided to root the phone anyway and install a CM stock ROM. I then also installed the 'Galaxy S Unlock' APK and zero'd out the lock codes. I then tried all the SIM cards again with the same results as before.
After some browsing on the internet I download an APK called 'HC-kTool' and installed it. I then backed up my kernel and EFS folder to my SD card before hitting the advanced key and deleting my current installed EFS folder.
I turned off the phone, wrote down my IMEI number from behind the battery and inserted a Vodafone SIM card.
When the phone rebooted I got a full Vodafone signal and rang my home number, and it rang!
I then dialled *#06# and noticed my IMEI number has changed to something entirely different.
The phone has been connected over an hour now, I have not tried any other SIM as yet but I don't doubt it is unlocked and working on all networks now.
I read something briefly about T-mobile using a non-standard (I think) network system and deleting the EFS folder has the Samsung software revert it back to a non-T-mobile modified one. this could be totally wrong though...
Can anyone throw some light on this?

So are there any negatives to using the dummy IMEI then? Also, if I edit the hex of the nv_data_bin files from the backup of the original IMEI can I change it to anything I please?
I dont think you can do that as it would be stupid from samny's side but try(after taking an efs backup). AFAIK no negatives except that some providers will block this IMEI

I have dumped the efs of the default Samsung and will compare the hex in hex workshop against the original dump. I'm guessing the main file here being the nv_data_bin.
While it is good news for my customer that this ex-stolen phone now works on Vodafone I don't think it is very responsible of Vodafone to allow default IMEI numbers to connect to their network. If I had my phone stolen I wouldn't like to think that the thief could potentially use it again.
Yes mine too was allowed on Vodafone after getting the dummy IMEI
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
I remember reading some time ago that although illegal in allot of country's if you were able to change a phones IMEI number so as to connect to a network it would still not be a worthwhile effort as if the fake IMEI was the same as that on another phone you would get the other phones text messages and calls mixed up with yours.
I always had doubts about that as it made more sense that calls and texts would be sent to the phone broadcasting the correct SIM number ID. But I was assured by people much more experienced in this stuff than I that the IMEI was a more secure method of ID'ing the correct device to send secure DATA to.
So if this is true, surely that would mean I am the only person on the planet using the default Samsung IMEI number as I have had no odd text messages or phone calls since I got this phone. (I am now the owner as I swapped it for an 8GB iPod Touch!)
Anyone can un-confuse me here!

As far as I know the default Samsung IMEI number will only work on the Vodafone network. If you have rooted your S2 then there is an app in the Google Play store that will unlock your phone to all networks. Search for 'Samsung Unlock' and you will find it. If not there are plenty of ways to unlock it for free that you can find here on XDA.
I'm pretty sure you won't get it working on any other network without changing the IMEI which is incredibly difficult, not worth the cost of the equipment you would need and of course illegal in most country's carrying a very real prison sentence. XDA and other cell phone development communities will rightly not tolerate IMEI changing discussions and almost always permanently ban members should they attempt it so that is as much as I will discuss that!
Another thing I found recently was a company offering to 'De-Blacklist' phones to certain networks that were on the UK blacklist. At first I thought this must be illegal as if it wasn't it would make a mockery of the entire blacklisting principle, i.e prevention of crime. However more and more companies are offering this service and nothing seems to be preventing any of them from doing so. There are two UK based phone unlocking / modding businesses with a huge reputation online that are also doing it now too.
If anyone knows what that is about please enlighten me. No amount of probing I did had any of the companies reveal any of the methods to me!
I had an iPhone 4 that was IMEI blocked (found in a skip by a charity shop - checkmend reported not stolen) de-barred to 'EE / Orange' 5 days after paying about £50 to http://www.beijingiphonerepair.com/store/#!/~/category/id=4425106&offset=0&sort=normal
IMEI
If you were not cautious enough and you did not saved your efs directory before you made changes or ROM updates to your phone, then its possible that your phone "forget" your IMEI. So if you need to re-write your ORIGINAL IMEI back to that phone that its belong to, then its not a crime!!! There is an online program that can do that for around 4 EUR, 5-6 USD. If you are a half experienced browser user, you can find it by searching the keywords.
Although there is an easier way that you go to your provider and ask them to restore your phone IMEI, they can do that for you. If your wise enough, you put back your Original ROM, and zero the counter of ROM changes. As here in XDA you can find these methodes I wont give you any links, you can find it by yourself.
So, changing the IMEI is illegal in many countries but put back the original IMEI to the phone where it belongs is not!

To the OP.
Did you experience loss of functionality at all?
Someone i know followed what you did on a barred s2.
It now connects to virgins network but she can no longer switch on Bluetooth.
It tries to start then Bluetooth flicks over to off again.
Looking in phone details reveal that Bluetooth address is listed as unavailable.
Everything else seems to work fine.

Got Scammed with htc raider but can i fix it

Hi
i bought a htc raider from kijiji locked with rogers. the person who gave me the phone told me that it is locked with rogers so at the spot i just checked the functions like wifi etc and nothing much. after when i inserted the rogers sim card it did not recognize the sim card and still said no service. there were not signals coming and there was a cross on top of the bars. i tried it with other rogers sim card and the same problem. went to setting about phone network and every thing was disabled . i reset and hard reset but the same problem. i tried to get the imei number by pressing *#06# it just showed the letters"IMEI" but there were no numbers beneath it. i went to setting to check the imei number but nothing was mentioned there either. there was a imei number pasted on the rogers box and under the battery so i called up rogers to ask about the phone and they said it was refurbished phone and it is out of warranty so they cannot help me out.
is it a possibility that the guy tried to unlock the phone and could not do it correctly. is there any ways i can do some thing about the phone. every feature is working fine but the every thing related to calling features. its like now a ipod of android
please help me. if unlocking , unrooting is the option please tell me or paste a link to do that. if you require more information to resolve this issue please mention in the comments and i will let you guys know
thank you

[Q] "Not registered on network" - Tried everything

Hello all,
To put my issue simply, I am receiving the "Not registered on network" error on my phone. I have tried many things to resolve it and to help narrow down the possible problems, I will explain my situation and what steps I have taken to try to resolve it. I appreciate you taking the time to read my detailed explanation in advance, as I wish to be as clear and informative as possible.
My phone is an unlocked Australian Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300). I bought it about 6 months ago and about two months ago had some issues with the display come out of the blue. I was able to get this issue resolved through my warranty. When I received the phone back though, I thought it was all working fine but then I noticed I couldn't send SMSs or make calls as my phone wouldn't connect to my phone network (Vodafone). I tried reboots, hard reboots, restoring backups, using a different SIM card (from a different carrier) and I still couldn't get it to work.
During this process of trying to fix it myself, I rooted the phone. So when I realised I couldn't fix it and it could possibly be a hardware issue, I sent it back to be fixed under warranty. Unfortunately my warranty was voided when I rooted the phone, even though it was broken before I rooted it.
So a few days ago I received my phone back again and spent about 6 hours trying to fix it. Here's what I tried...
I tried to flash the latest Australian firmware (XSA) which is the same as the one I initially had when I purchased the phone. I tried factory resets, different firmware flashes, custom ROMs, different modems etc. None of this worked. I thought I had found my solution when I stumbled across ARIZA's patch, but event this did not solve my problem.
The really strange thing is I can occasionally connect to the network and if I try repeatedly, I can sometimes get an SMS to send. I've checked my SIM is clean (I've tried another SIM anyway) and everything seems fine.
My IMEI number is still intact and isn't blacklisted. I've tried restoring backups from when it was working (before I got it "fixed" the first time) and that's not worked. The current status of my phone is:
ROM: Omega v5.0
Version: 4.2.2
Baseband: I9300XELLA
Network: vodafone AU (sometimes shows as Unknown)
Mobile Network State showing as "Disconnected", except in rare moments
IMEI and Serial intact
I've tried all I can think of and all the suggestions I can find on the Internet. I'm hoping someone here will have some suggestions for things I can try. I'd really like to fix this issue as I've been without my phone for months. I'm thinking it could be a hardware issue, but want to make sure I've exhausted all options I can try myself first before trying to get a place to repair it. As my warranty is void, I'm not sure how easy this will be.
Thanks in advance for your time and suggestions,
Jay.

I'm thinking it could be a hardware issue, but want to make sure I've exhausted all options I can try myself first before trying to get a place to repair it. As my warranty is void, I'm not sure how easy this will be.
Thanks in advance for your time and suggestions,
Jay.

Return to a stock rom and use triangle away to reset the counter, retry with your provider, they may let it slide that you've previously tried.
It would appear that you've already tried everything.
Return to stock and update via OTA, remove root, remember to use triangle away, I personally haven't had to do it but i would imagine that it needs root privileges to complete so thinking about it i would say to use triangle away first.
Hope you get it sorted.

Hey,
Thanks for the quick response.
I doubt they would let it slide as I had a pretty long back and forth with them trying to get them to fix the phone or at least send it back to me without charging me for the shipping costs and that didn't end in my favour. I'm sure they'd remember that they already rejected it due to it being modified and would just blame the rooting for the issues.
I'm thinking I might just reset it all to stock, reset the counter and at least ask. If not, I'll try to find a repair shop who will take a look. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm still open to any other ideas people might have which I can try from my end.
Thanks,
Jay.
Starting point would be correct firmware modem and CSC for your location and network .
Flash your original rom .

Hey,
Thanks for the suggestion. I believe I have tried this by downloading the latest firmware from SamMobile and flashing that through Odin, but I haven't tried it through Keis, so I guess I'll give that a go.
I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks,
Jay.
Me too. I've an i9305 (S3 LTE) and i've tried every tutorials on internet and so far nothing: always the same issue "not registered on network". In case you solve the issue please let me know. I'll do the same. Txs
I've tried to connect my phone using Keis and it just seems to say "Connecting..." forever. I've tried running the connection troubleshooter and that just seemed to re-install the drivers but not actually fix the issue. I still can't get Keis to even connect to my phone.
Any ideas on why this would be? Or other suggestions I can try for my initial problem?
Thanks,
Jay.
As an update to this, it seems I've tried everything I can on my end to fix it to no avail. I believe it must be a hardware issue and have dropped it into a phone repair centre. I'm hoping they will be able to find the problem and fix it.
I'll let you know how it goes.
Another update to this, I received a response from the repair centre. They said:
"...we took it all apart and checked all connections and serviced it.
Once we put it back together we tested it with Vodafone and Optus sim cards. Both sims had service and were able to connect to the internet as well."
After I asked for more details on what they did to try and help me determine what the problem was, they said:
"The phone looked 100% fine inside, no signs of water or any other damage. Sometimes electronic devices can be a bit temperamental, maybe the fact that we undone and cleaned all connections it's booted it back to life."
So I'm going to pick it up tomorrow, but it sounds like it's all sorted now. So not it's not 100% clear what the issue was, but to anyone having this same problem who has tried everything like I did, it is likely a hardware issue. Your best bet is probably to try a repair shop (assuming your warranty won't cover the problem).
Thanks to those who offered suggestions and good luck to those with the same problem.
Do please tell us if it worked because i'm tempted to do the same as you did before selling it on ebay as faulty for parts. PLEASE ANSWER US BACK AFTER TESTING IT an entire day. THANK YOU A LOT!
Does it work properly now? Thanks - Please reply.
Not sure if it is exactly the same problem but I remember getting that msg when i was on Telstra and I'd installed a new ROM - I went to the Telstra site and got them to send an activation msg that reset my provider info. It didn't seem to matter for phone calls but I wasn't getting any connection to do with data until I 'ran' the msg they sent.

Txs for help but I don't have the backups of my efs folder... so I think it is useless therefore i am going to sell it on ebay as faulty for parts. Unfortunately! I love my i9305!
You should probably do some more searching on site - there are a number of things to do, including getting a service centre to fix it. Be cheaper than a new phone. Is it an i9300 or ann i9305?

It's a i9305 and I've tried everything, every tutorials on internet without success so far. I am tired of the situation and also very disappointed therefore I think i will sell it as faulty. As it regards to a repair center, near my area it's very difficult to find someone who can fix it.
For me it seems my connection is still intermittent when using my Vodafone SIM on my S3 (and the same for another Vodafone SIM I tried on this phone) whereas both SIMs work fine on other phones.
I then tried a Telstra SIM on my S3 and it worked fine. So it seems I have a weird problem with my phone where the combination of the S3 and Vodafone doesn't work, but other phones or other SIMs do work.
I think I'm just going to try changing carrier (I've been meaning to anyway) since it seems their SIMs work in my phone.
Really not sure what is causing this issue, but I'm at the point where I just want it fixed and I don't really care how. Hope you find out how to solve your issue.
How is your phone right now? Im also having the same problem. It always say 'not registered to network' everytime i make a call. This happens whenever i turn on the flight mode, then turning it off.. i have a strong signal and i can use the internet provided by my network but i cant make a call or text.. people cant also reach my number. I sent this already to samsung service ctr and they changed the board but its still there whenever i access the flight mode..
