[Q] [?] Cost of having Samsung Repair "No SIM Card" - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

My i717 has the dreaded "No Sim Card" error. I have tried going back to Stock via Odin. I have replaced the Sim Card board. The problem is still happening.
Reading past threads, it seems like my only options are (a) sending the phone back to Samsung for an out of warrenty repair, or, (b) replacing the motherboard.
For those who have opted for Option A (sending it back to Samsung), how much did the repair run you? Was it more than the base $70?

I bought a mainboard from ebay for $100 because my gps connector to the antenna broke off. You can probably find a cheap phone with a smashed screen and take is mainboard.

I believe you can find the replacemnt board on ebay for abour 12 dollars US.

Please do remember, its not just the replacement cost, just be careful not to break it completely. I am always afraid of messing it up further. but still Good Luck.

Less actually. Unfortunately, I tried this replacement and it didn't work.
Hence the decision to replace the motherboard.

Solid Red light = no power

The other night, I put my phone on to charge (OEM charger). When I woke up, the charge light was solid even after I unplugged it from the charger. The phone was off (on when put on to charge) and will not turn on now. I have removed the battery for a while and reinstalled. I have removed the sim also and tried that way. I have read in -other- forums that this either means: 1. Phone is toast. Trash it. 2. Battery cover is damaged.
I bought it on ebay and it worked GREAT for 4 months. I flashed it with 6.1 standard just after I got it. I don't belive that the ROM is bad. As for the cover...Mine fits tight. When I flip it over, I see -1- metal piece on it. As I understand from discriptions, it is supposed to have -2-. I cannot find a picture online verifying this. I don't want to pay $15-$20 for a battery cover when I really need to buy a new phone.
So...anyone know how I can fix it? Any (reasonable) suggestions?
Thanks!
Update
I went to a few cell repair shops. Unfortunately, they told me that the motherboard has a short in it and it will need a new one. They also told me that it isn't worth replacing the motherboard ($150 was the quote I got). It would be best if I bought a new one.
Anyone know where I can get a NEW one? Ebay only has used.
Thanks!

need help -- sprint TP repair

i had just purchased a Sprint Raphel from Ebay, keyboard issue (i was aware of this) i fixed it, however, in process of fixing it unknowingly till the issue arrived again i had mangled the LCD / Touchscreen and key's ZIF socket. the cable itself is fine and i tried to fix it, nevertheless, in the process i did more harm than good.
now, i'm not going to phenoky insurance claim it the damage is all my fault, but my question is this:
if i take it to a sprint repair center and say "i need this part" will they give it to me? or are they going to give the phone a good look through before they want to replace anything? has anyone went though out of warranty repairs? they want 120 bucks just to repair the thing, and if i can just get that PCB replaced which i could do myself without the 120 repair fee i would be ecstatic
i am going to go to a repair center after work, looks like i will be grabbing my titan at lunch in the meantime

Another water damaged GS2

Hi all. Managed to drop my phone down the bog mid flush a couple of weeks ago and despite getting it out straight away, removing battery, sim etc before putting into rice to dry out, the phone will no longer power on. Have tried different batteries but all to no avail.
Given the above, I've resigned myself to having to fork out for a repair but was wondering if anyone in the UK (London would be even better) could recommend a decent mobile phone repair service?
I've heard so many horror stories that I'd like to know that the one I'm sending it to has a solid background.
Thanks in advance.
simply take it to the phone dealer, and pay up for the fix, have them inspect every small bit in the phone from head to toes... could be something internal and bad costing u more than a new/used phone.... thats what happened to my old 8910hd with parts going bad after just fixing the phone from a drop in the sink.. ended up paying more than the cost of a used unit
Yeah, have already resigned myself to paying up, was just looking for a reputable repair centre. Phoned Samsung and they gave me another number that wasn't even in service.

I need some help diagnosing a dead S2

Hello all.
I'm trying to fix my fathers faulty s2. Here is the story so far;
The device is about 15 months old and started to develop a a fault after 13 months. It would keep going into car mode and it woundnl't except a charge. Cleaning the usb port seemed to only be a short term fix. A few weeks after this the phone died and wouldn't power on.
It was sent back to Vodafone, where they told me it was out of warranty and would cost 120 euro to repair even though it was well within warranty. After this it went back to Samsung where they reported water damage. I decided to have a look at it myself and I replaced the usb port, but it didn't help at all. I've tried a battery from a nexus but there was still nothing.
There is no sound when I plug into my PC or even a power vibration.
It was on stock firmwire so it wasn't a case of bad flash.
I have attached a few pictures. Does it look like water damage to you? If so, what would you suggest replacing?
Thanks,
Niall

Too late, already copied it down :silly: :good:
Whoops.. Edited
Given you've already replaced the USB port (I presume you changed the flex cable ?) in the first instance, it's probably the associated circuitry. I imagine they'd probably replace the MB rather than fiddle around with individual components.
You could do that I guess (get one from a 'donor' phone). I doubt you've got any comeback if they say water damage, you could spend money getting your own reports/opinions saying its not, but that's going to cost you a lot more than $120. It should boil down to what the cheapest option is. At this stage, replacing the board yourself is cheapest, then not arguing/paying them to do it, followed by arguing the point with them & trying to get them to do it for free (which they won't).

Help > I9100G enter bootloop suddenly n dead

the phone on like usual , put aside.. when want to use take it and saw it in boot screen.., wait quite long still stuck there.. take off battery and put back in straight cant turn on.. any idea to revive it?
download/cwm mode both not working... tried press 3 together and insert battery also no respond.. charge no respond too... is it mobo dead symtom?
EDIT: Charge it will hot but no respond
Same advice as this thread (I.E try the things I suggested to that person); though in your case it's 99.999999% likely you're going to need a motherboard replacement if you intend to keep the phone.

i cant find usb jig over here...
the person sttill able to go downlad or cwm.. this phone unable to turn on.. tried jump start by holding 3 button and insert battery do not work..
can i know how long should i hold the 3 button? as the post say too many people release early..
if the mobo really spoilt, will it affect the internal memory? for example i sell it to faulty phone shop, do they able to recover? if not maybe sell it and get a new phone
1) You hold the buttons as long as you have to - if it hasn't booted into download mode having held the buttons for twenty seconds, it won't be ever.
2) You can order a jig on eBay; you don't have to find one 'over here'.
3) Nobody can access your internal memory (including you). It's probably dead anyway.
If you decide to keep the phone, you get a motherboard replacement. If you sell it as is, expect to get very little money for it (the only part useful to someone else will probably be the screen).

it will turn hot when i plug charger on it.. so it considered death too?
planning to sell it out but only concern people have chance revive it back and get data inside..
Correct. Heat at the back + no boot = one or more components on the motherboard have died. It is impossible to read the data off an EMMC in these situations
As I said in my PP, if you sell it, the only thing which be useful for whomever buys it is the screen, assuming they don't replace the motherboard & get the phone working again, and as the EMMC is on the motherboard, new board = new EMMC.
Nobody is going to access your data if you sell it (and even if they could, why would they ? You're paranoid/read too much of the hysteria the tech media push as 'journalism'); it's gone (and I'm not saying this again, twice is my limit).

credit card data etc.. the phone is my bro 1.. i just asking... yesterday he told be that he bring to phone shop for last time before purchase.. the phone repair people say IC dead,, replace cost less than 100.. but dont know which IC, data depend on which IC...
You can replace the entire motherboard for around the same price. We've seen a number of posts over the past 12 mths or so with this 'replace power IC' fix suggested, but nobody has posted after saying the repair was carried out successfully.
It involves replacing an individual component on the motherboard, these components are tiny, and Samsung service centres/almost all other repairers won't even attempt such a repair. If this repair is unsuccessful, you will end up having to pay for a motherboard replacement + the cost of the failed repair.
So if the plan is to keep the phone, insist on motherboard replacement. You can source a 2nd hand one online yourself & pay a mobile repair shop to do the replacement (and many mobile repair shops may even be able to source one for you), and as I said in my first para, this will cost you not a lot more than what you've been quoted for this dubious repair, but you will pretty much guarantee to fix the phone first time unless there's other components not working.
By all means choose the option you've been given (replacing the individual component), but be aware there's a fair chance it may not work, and if this is the case you'll end up with extra expense if you end up needing the motherboard replaced.
If it was me, I'd want it fixed right the first time.
Anyways, this is my last post to this thread. Nothing personal, but I've given you the options, up to you/your brother to decide what you want to do, no amount of further to-ing/fro-ing in this thread is going to change that.
