[Q] Help Flashing Cyanogenmod on DNA????? - HTC Droid DNA

Firstly, is this even possible to do with all features fully functional? Because Cyanogenmod doesn't yet have an official release for the DNA. And if it is, can anyone help guide me in the right direction? For the record, I have flashed Cyanogenmod on some older devices like the A855 and the Droid Eris, but from some limited research I can tell that things have changed a lot since then and I've yet to come across a thread that makes any sense to me.

Look in the original development section to download CM and it has the instructions too.

And it is official CM

Huh? There's a Cyanogenmod thread in the "Original Development" forum. You flash it just like any other ROM. Is this what you're asking?

This isn't stable though. I mean it's Cyanogenmod but it's a nightly. Why after 2 years isn't there an stable release? I mean there's no telling what doesn't work with this (camera, mms, etc).

Yes, but it's a nightly. And Idk if you ever flashed any of the older phones but you didn't have to unlock the bootloader or turn S-Off or any of that, and frankly, I'm a little lost on all that

Read the thread, it will tell you what's not working. To save you time the only problem is occasional skipping when streaming music via Bluetooth. Camera, GPS, WiFi, messaging, etc all work.
You should look at the first two pages of the thread and it then the last five pages to see what's going on since it's such a long thread. If you have anymore questions about it then ask in that thread. Just because it's not an official stable release doesn't mean it's unstable, especially when the only problem is Bluetooth skipping, which not everyone is experiencing.
Try it.

2 years? You time traveled back to Nov 16, 2013 bud, this phone will be one year old in 5 days.source. We got official CM support AFTER the last stable CM release was built. But the nightlies are stable enough, literally one issue (discussed in an earlier post, BT audio skips)

I've been using a nightly for the past 2 weeks. I have no issues that I've noticed. No issues with flashing either, booted right up.

s-off is very simple if you are on the latest firmware no worries moonshine s-off is a painless process and it only takes a few minutes
unlocking the bootloader lets you run custom recovery <<< the A855 was already unlocked thats why you didnt need to its also my backup device
s-off lets you flash radios <<<< great to test out for better signal also letting you just flash one package instead boot.img here modules here rom here. if you need help just ask i dont mind willing to help anytime

CM10 ** Stable Version ** Keyboard Errors ** Nightlies ** SD Card Issues???

So I finally made the jump and got S-Off using the Moonshine method (Love that sh** BTW) and I flashed CM10 Stable from the Cyanogen website directly. The first error I got was the keyboard would not come up and I was unable to even do anything. I tried using a different keyboard under setting and wouldn't even let me change it.
Next I flashed the latest Nightly thinking this would maybe be more stable and that one gave me the "no SD card error" so I can't use the camera whatsoever.
My question is what version of CM10 fixes both of these issues, or at least somewhat fixes them? I having been flashing for several years so I am used to things being broken in CM10, but these two things are very crucial. Is there a CM10 ROM or variant that works stable enough for daily use? I know there is a flashable zip file fix for the SD card issue, but I really wanted to use the stable version, but the keyboard issue really kills that idea. Am I doing something wrong when flashing the stable version?
Any help would be appreciated. I have no problem using a custom AOSP CM10 based wrong, but there are so many I don't know what to choose?
Thank all.

[Q] Split screen after installing CM 10.1 and 9

I have followed carefully (twice) the instal Tut's for both CM 9 and CM 10.1 however I have a screen problem and hang on start up.
When turning on the Atrix 4G (MB860) it seems to start Ok saying Unlocked and the Red M logo shows in the middle, as normal.
Then suddenly the screen seems to split into segments so there are 2 Unlocked texts at the top and an M in the middle at he very bottom, and two half M's either side. The phone hangs at that point.
Any ideas please ?
thanks

Thanks for that feedback. I tried again but it is still doing the same thing. I even went for a walk around the block to give it time
do you had full wipe?
Correct yes.
Via the Advanced section I did a Cache, Dalvik, System etc etc.
Then I installed the CM-9 same hanging situation.
Full wipe again via all items, then I tried 10.1 same hanging situation.
I have Unlocked the phone, and I did also Root the phone, but what if the Root didn't work, would it hang like this or do something different. I guess what I am asking is, can I check the root worked, or can I assume it worked if the install gets this far anyway ?
thanks
And i bet you're on a 3.1.10 kernel and if you turn off your device and plug it into charge, the battery meter doesn't flash. Am i right?

First off, you should really update that recovery. 4.x recoveries have been long since retired. We're now on 5.0.2.x up to 6.0.4.4
Second, what exact rom are you using (meaning state the file name of the rom package you are using)?

The ROM I have downloaded is cm-10.1-20131211-UNOFFICIAL-epinter-olympus.zip
And gapps-jb-20131207-olympus.zip
I tried gapps-kk-20140105.zip but it came up with an error during the install.
I hope I am using the correct versions as these are the ones I could find on the net ?

CM10-10.2 is JB. CM11 is KK. Why you would flash KK gapps onto a JB build is extremely confusing.
That build is using the 3.1.10 kernel. To see that, go to options>about phone.
Boot logo and charging meter (as mentioned in my previous post) are related in terms of the kernel. Fix one, get a glitchy image on the screen for the other. Normal, and already discussed across all 3.1.10 kernel based roms.

I am absolutely new to all this so apologies for my lack of familiarity. I'm flying by the seat of my pants here. I'm trying to catch on as I read posts around the place.
So as I read your feedback I should ;
a) upgrade the Recovery to 5.x or 6.x (not sure where to find these)
b) locate CM10-10.2 JB or CM 11 KK and use the appropriate gapps (JB or KK)
glitchy image doesn't worry me at all, I am just keen to get a V4.x of Android installed so I can use this phone for some other security development that needs Android 4.x, otherwise I have to splash out $150 to buy a new phone which I'm not keen on doing.
It would be nice also to have the fingerprint working on the upgraded version. I saw an addon for Beanstalk somewhere and the developer said that installing that apk would activate the finger scanner. That said, I don't really have much of an idea what I am talking about, just what I have gleaned reading postings. I am 59 years old and with a bunch of old school IT like IBM mainframes etc behind me but am new to all this upgrading of mobiles
If you could steer me to any links that would be great.
thanks

Its all good, we've all been there (being noobs i mean)
The 5.x recovery can be found by going to the general section, the thread that has may 16th in its title, and clicking a link in post #1
The 6.x recovery can be found in the new CM10.2 thread (the one not done by epinter)
This is the only Android phone with fingerprint technology (to the best of my knowledge). Most stable on 2.3.x, however it does work on 4.0.4, although its more hit or miss at that point. I've got my Atrix 4G still and i'm running AtrICS v2.0 (Nov 2012 build) with the home button fix and the latest kernel released by krystian (10 Feb (haven't checked development at the time of this post)). Fingerprint for me does work.
Beanstalk is a JB ROM, i believe based off of the old kernel (2.x). I don't recall if that one had the fp working or not.
If the 4G can't do what you need, the A2 and AHD, both which succeeded the 4G, are both available for under 150 on amazon (my AHD was 134 after tax and shipping)

Thanks for that info. A quick question - I see one of the Recovery versions says : CWM-Recovery 6 for Galaxy ACE GT-S5830. Does that mean it is specifically for that model and I need to find one that actually refers to the Atrix 4G MB860 ?

Good News ..... It's working.
It seems the issue might have been the Recovery app / version. After updating that to 5.x and reinstalling the OS it ran like a dream.
I started with AtrICS v2.0 as you indicated and that worked just fone although for some reason WiFi was not being detected.
I then reformatted etc and installed cm-10.1-20131211-UNOFFICIAL-epinter-olympus and it's all looking good, including fingerprint.
Thanks again for your help, much appreciated.

Yes you did need to flash a CWM designed specifically for the A4G. AtrICS can be tricky, sometimes, but as long as you installed the main ROM, then the Vendor zip, you should get wifi. If you want to use the 3.1.10 kernel, flash the home fix zip thats in that thread, then upgrade the kernel as needed (highly recommended if you chose this option).
Glad to see you were able to upgrade, and no problem.

[Q] Newbie wanting to "root" / Mod.

Hey all! I am a newbie, but am technically inclined.
Both my bf and I have the HTC Rezound with the latest OEM firmware. We are sick of Sense, the battery life is horrible amongst other complaints.
We would like to move to an aftermarket firmware but I have noticed that most if not all of them have issues. The camera, the camcorder, the MMS, the WiFi...I don't want to drop my OEM firmware for something that doesn't fully work.
We also have the Nexus 7 (2012) Wifi tablets which we LOVE. It's pure KitKat 4.4! If only we could have stock Android on our phones.
Anyhow...I don't even know where to start with our phones and then of course, which software to install that is fully functional?
Thanks for the help ya'll!

I can recommend some ROMs that are both faster than stock and totally stable. So you want to unlock your bootloader and all?
Whatever it takes, I guess, to get a newer, faster and more battery conservative ROM . This Sense crap sucks!

Okay, first begin with unlocking the bootloader via HTC dev. Here's the website, you need to set up and use a legit email you can get into to. It will send you a unlock token once you get done with the steps. : http://http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader/
This will erase everything on the phone, but this will allow you to continue, you are on the newest radio's and updates correct?
I am on the latest update. Not sure about radios though. I assume they all come with the update from the carrier/OEM.
Why does unlocking the boot loader delete all on the phone?
Should I back up and remove my SD card before doing this?

Yes that means you're on the newest radio's. Not really sure why it deletes everything but it just does, and yes, back everything up, back your contacts up via google :$ back up SD card, shouldn't delete it, or it didn't mine, but just back everything up before beginning. Okay?
Super. Thanks.

Also you need adb and fastboot set up, heres a little tool I used for the windows partition of my mac: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979
Then I never really had to use device drivers, so I'm somewhat unsure of that Search up HTC rezound drivers into google and see if you can find something I just use my mac because it doesn't need drivers and it's easy for stuff like that.... windows 7 is the way to go though, or is pretty much the only way to go....

ADB and Fastboot are used in pushing things to the device. Like after the bootloader is unlocked and you want to install a custom recovery, (custom recovery is where you erase and install ROM's. I am using Cyanogenmod 11. Actually I go between 4 different ROMs... Liquid smooth is a good ROM, I love Cyanogenmod 11. It's 4.4.2 its smooth, fast, camera works, I've heard video camera is a little wonky. I don't use the video camera. Everolv is a great ROM, snuzzo's plain andy I've heard is a great ROM. But I love Cyanogenmo, I love 4.4.2 but the choice of ROM's is up to the user. But I would suggest, everolv, Cyanogenmod, or Plain andy. Me I love my cyanogenmod. Very stable. Very smooth, Lots of options.
CM would be my choice! 4.4 huh? Why do all the builds seem to have troubles with the camera or video camera?
What else doesn't work on CM ?

Yes CyanogenMod 11 is kitkat 4.4.2 well WiFi works, 4Glte works, when in 3G though the phone goes to roaming. :/ but WiFi tethering works. Confirmed camera works in that screenshot. Home screen is there, very smooth scrolling. But have you taken a go at unlocking yet?

I haven't done anything yet because I want to make an informed decision before wiping my device. When I hear something doesn't work I ask my self why would I go from a fully functional OEM ROM to something that is not fully functional?

Yes CyanogenMod 11 is kitkat 4.4.2 well WiFi works, 4Glte works, when in 3G though the phone goes to roaming. :/ but WiFi tethering works. Confirmed camera works in that screenshot. Home screen is there, very smooth scrolling. But have you taken a go at unlocking yet?

That's the only thing I have problems with on this ROM... Its very stable.... As are most other ROMs. If you don't like CM, everolv is a great ROM. I've talked go some people. They've said its a great ROM... Kind of a personal choice... From going from a fully functional stock, well, increased battery life (I've found) new features. Cool features. Etc)

Hmm...thanks for all your input. At this point, I think I am going to just deal with my OEM ROM. This just sounds too involved for me.

4.2.2 overheating

Hi,
I'm trying to extend my battery life. I read fast dormancy can extend my battery life significantly, but it depends on my device and mobile network provider.
Should i remove it? any one has tried it and can give me some feedback?
Thanks!

Create your own thread. it is a compkletely different problem. also, it has been answered in cm10.1's thread. in the last few pages, i think @palmbeach05 has covered this and other issues.
As for OP: AFAIK, fastdormancy comes preinstalled, depends upon your carrier and it automatically start to work whenever it detects your carrier supports it. but in my experience, i got better results removing it than wit it enablesd maybe due to the alpha nature of the kernel

All kernels nowadays are 3.1.10. This is, has been, and will be until officially upgraded, an Alpha stage kernel. This means that there are major bugs present. Are there kernels out there that are stable enough at this stage? Yes. Most are within the individual ROM threads, others are in krystian's dropbox.
There are 2 versions of ICS that are popular amongst A4G users, AtrICS v 2.0 and CM9. Which one are you trying to use?

ALWAYS make a backup prior to any test modifications. That way if removing fastdormancy makes things worse for you, you have something to fall back on without having to go through the hassle of reflashing the entire ROM.

I used it for a while, then I got back to AtrICS. As @palmbeach05 said, always do a nandroid backup before messing with anything system related.

Ok and you're experiencing a problem everyone has had or still has. Stop complaining or start developing a fix. Can't develop? Don't complain. Simple as that. Besides that, I mentioned it before, but I will reiterate the point again. THE 3.1.10 KERNEL IS AN ALPHA STAGE KERNEL. ALL ROMS RUNNING A 3.1.10 KERNEL BECOME ALPHA STAGE ROMS AS WELL. ALL LOWER REVISION KERNELS ON ANY 4.0 AND UP ROM WILL PROVIDE ISSUES AS WELL. This is pretty much a deal with what we, the devs of xda, can provide to you and other users, or move onto a new ROM or a new device.

CM11 getting monthly builds?

Just noticed CM11 official for hltevzw is now getting monthly builds... funny, we have no CM12 or CM13!
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=hltevzw&type=
It got me thinking, though... there are a ton of KK/based roms that are very smooth. In fact, I still think kitkat is the best base for this device as far as stability and battery life. Just look at the size of some of the custom ROMS like DU (180-190 MB) and the fact that they boot in under 20 seconds... even on the initial boot. Crazy efficiency.
I am sure that most people here disagree and interest in running CM11 is pretty low. But it still seems like it should be an option... especially since it is the most current official CM we have (last build is 6-12-2016)
The problem is that the radio in Kitkat doesn't work when coming from OF1. Theoretically, it should work if you ODIN back to KK... but that is not an option given the root/unlock scenarios we have.
So, question is...how do we get the radio working on CM11 coming from OF1... hmmm
I like your thinking mightysween. I saw the same thing last week and wondered myself. Can this be done?

It would seem that flashing the modem would work... but I tried two KK modems with no luck.
Will post some logcats, and maybe we can figure out the right combo.
IDK I am now strongly considering downgrading to 4.4.2. There are a whole lot more stable ROMS available for KitKat than Lollipop for this device. I might pull the trigger this weekend. Currently investigating viability.
Any luck on this?

Not yet... but wow. If you put a new looking theme on any of the refined CM11 based stuff (like DU), people would be abuzz about how smooth and responsive this "new" rom is. I think these older devices are just happier with the older android versions.
Just can't seem to make the radio work...
Have tried as far back as NC4/NK1 modems... but they either don't work at all or exhibit the same problems as OF1.
I wonder if @Moepda might have any insight having worked on sm900 ROMS through the 4.4 to 5.1 updates...
Seems that there must be a modem that would work...or is the newer bootloader version a problem in running 4.4 based roms?
Well... Stupid me never checked to see if ODIN flashing the modems was actually working. It is not! I have tried both tar.md5 versions and directly flashing the modem.bin, and while it appears to work and ODIN says "pass", the modem stays on OF1.
So that's the issue...
That said, it is not a radio problem in general, it is an LTE registration issue. So, when set to 3g only it works AOK!
If I can figure out how to get the flash of NK1 or NC4 modem to stick, I believe LTE would work...

Sounds promising. I wonder if there is a zip we can install via TWRP.

There used to be flashable modems here on XDA, but all the links are dead. I suppose I could just make one and try.
FWIW, I am running an OLD Dirty Unicorns moepda build from 2014, and it is quite refreshing after so long with cm12 and cm13. Fast, stable, and seemingly lacking nothing I use compared to CM12/13

Sounds interesting. Can you provide an installation guide based upon what you've done? Versions used, steps taken, etc. If you don't want to publish it to prevent people from damaging something you can PM me.
Thanks

No steps at all, really... it just works. Flashed and then switch to 3g preferred.
I don't need LTE... so I haven't spent much time trying to figure it out. Both this old DU and CM11 monthly are working fine as long as LTE is shut off
Obviously, CM11 is available from get.cm
...
the last version of DU 4.4.4 is here:

I am going to give this a whirl. I have always had trouble with finding the right gapps for KitKat though. Which did you select?
Notice much drop off in using 3G instead of LTE?
BTW In an earlier post I mentioned I was going to downgrade. Well, that's not really possible and you might already know that. I attempted 4.4.2 and was abruptly stopped by the bootloader. I did read though that 4.4.4 was possible, but if we can do all this and get a stable ROM that has GPS and Bluetooth functional why bother?

I am on wifi about 90% of the time, and when I am not it is usually while driving. So having only 3g doesn't bother me.
Bluetooth and GPS seem to work fine... GPS is certainly faster and more stable than LP/MM

Oh, and I just use open gapps nano... works fine
I take that back... You need to set the preferred network to LTE, let it connect (and then fail), and THEN set to 3G in order for it to stick.
Love the feature set from DU, but have to say that the 6-12-2016 nightly is pretty smooth.
So is LTE working on the 4.4.4 build?

No... It connects, but then disconnects and reconnects repeatedly.
3G works fine
