Hi All. I'm wondering if, realistically speaking, we can expect to have Android 4.4 on the Atrix 4G? From what I understand, even the 4.3 port is not yet stable enough to be a daily driver, so perhaps it is unrealistic to expect 4.4 to come.

All development is being put into the kernel at the moment. krystian has stated that the 3.1.10 kernel should be able to run 4.4, however if not, he'll work on revising the kernel to match the Nexus kernel (I think he said it was at 3.4?) For us, CM10.1 (4.2) is the most stable current Android version. Cyanogenmod even says it on their page/wiki, 4.3 is at the preview stage, meaning its not at the same stage as all previous versions. That's why it is not stable enough to be a daily driver. Epinter just resurfaced and released an updated CM10.1 to reflect the changes in 10.1.3. He stated in his thread, since the updated release, that he will give CM11 (4.4) a shot. He's not making any promises besides saying that he will attempt to build.

Does Motorola's recent commitment to bringing kitkat to a few older devices help ROM builders in their efforts?
(can't post links yet, google 'motorola kitkat older devices' for details)
Does this mean it might be possible to port the changes to the Atrix 4G?
If had been a good 4.0 version...
I have hope to version 4.3:fingers-crossed:

And I will continue the offtopic by saying I'm waiting to see how high the carriers here will put it... probably as high as a galaxy s3 mini ($3500, arround u$s500).
Anyway, it seems too much for the price

Of course, I'm not asking for any ETAs or anything. But I've seen rumors of official CM teams working on the Atrix, that one guy in our Dev forum claiming to port it, other teams porting, blah blah. But I haven't heard so much as a rumor as to whether anyone at all is working on MIUI? THAT is a ROM I would love to try (never used custom ROMs as Atrix is my first Android). I heard some people got donations together to get a new Atrix to send to the CM people, but did anything of the sort happen for MIUI? Just curious is all.
MIUI is based on CM7 so we should first wait for a CM7 port before we can see a MIUI Rom for the Atrix

They could have used the RC for CM7 as a default build and then made a MIUI port instead of working directly on a fu CM7 ROM. I know the RC has been claimed to work on dual-core phones and I think SGSII was listed there.

Development for miui and cm7 should pick up once the photon drops. Its basically the atrix on sprint....So stuff for that will be ported over easily, this is information i received from the devs over at miui.us

I don't see why they don't develop these ROMs on the Atrix and then port them over to the Photon when it's ready (assuming it'll have the unlocked bootloader)... Doing that the other way around makes no sense but ah well, can't complain about devs' timeframes.
Whats MIUI?

Alright, that's what I thought. I remember the rumors but then I remember seeing that it WOULD be locked in the end.
But yeah, I can't think of any good reason why the MIUI (or CM, I guess) devs should not start working on the Atrix RIGHT NOW. It's completely unlocked and ready to go and isn't like TOTALLY inferior to the Photon or anything.
Which is only be ready when ics source is released... Then cyanogen will be working on it and will send the first nightlies like this:

Android isnt developed in a single version tree, the source tree gets updated
by any time - so every new version is a update/bugfix or upgrade.
the only reason to open a new tree like from froyo to ginger, or maybe from ginger to HC/ICS is incompatible
code - this isnt the way developers works on big projects, and, google has sayed the ICS is backward compatible.
So, lets see what the guru of www spend us

I am using CyanogenMod's cm-10.2-20130814-NIGHTLY-quincyatt on my Note and I am wondering why it was the only 10.2 nightly offered? There seems to be continued development and releases of the 10.1 series of ROM's. What have I missed here? I runs pretty good on my phone I have some issues with the screen coming on from sleeping or just being turned off (the screen not the phone) and some occasional random reboots. I am excited to see the 10.2 line progress but I guess I'm just confused as to why there was only one nightly released and the 10.1's continue. Anyone have any thoughts or insight? Thanks.

I'm using the above mentioned ROM. I have used CyanogenMod since the 7.0 releases and it always seemed like when they released a new version nightly, the only progressed with the new version for nightly release. The stable release is a different story. I actually read this on their forum just yesterday I think.

I have been curious about that too. Never seen that before out of CM, however, I have a Nexus 7 3G, and there is no 4.3 CM for it either, so don't feel left out.
I think nightly roms are experimental where they update an issue or a problem gets fix after they get a log cat...they are not official as of yet.I think that's what they mean by nightly...if u try the new pacman 4.3 that one says OFFICIAL..im a tmo user so I can't flash it yet...hopefully a dev can get us a 4.3 official rom on my end.... Hope what I wrote helps...

I'm running the 10.2 nightly from 8/14 as well, and have been pretty happy with it (HUGE thanks to the developers, so much better than the crap stock ROM I was running, which Samsung/AT&T only updated once over a year ago). This one is 4.3, which is very nice, and pretty much the same as the CM 10.2 (JB 4.3) I'm running on my ASUS TF700T tablet. But, I was also curious about if/when any new nightlies might be released in this 10.2 line. I'm not complaining at all, just curious, since there are a few buggy things (mainly what was mentioned by the OP, often doesn't wake up on first try, and some random reboots).

No.
A nightly can be anything from bug fixes to adding in a completely new feature to try. Once those get worked out it moves up the release stability chain.
Official means whatever build, nightly, release candidate, stable release was compiled by a member of the dev team.
Unofficial is someone taking their (whatever Rom dev team it may be) git source and compiling a build themselves.

Thanks. I guess I wanted to stick to what I could get "officially" via the CM site, but maybe I'll check these out.
That's understandable.
The builds are identical though using the same github source that the cm build servers do.
You can set it up yourself and build too. The instructions are in the cm wiki for quincyatt.
Sorry about such a long title. The question is mainly aimed at developers. At the moment (correct me if I am wrong) 4.2.2 by team Canjica is the latest working cyanogen-based rom for xu. It has not been updated in a while and there are no major working builds out by other devs with 4.2.2, although 4.1s are quite a few and are updated fairly regularly. What is the catch and will this situation likely change? Why do people not fork from Canjica's progress? All but front cam is functional.

I'm only hoping everyone is waiting for a 4.4 to go hot.

As far as I understood it before when they did not release official V5 (just port) - it was because there was not KK rom from Motorola. Only JB. Now there is not Android L from Motorola and developers just cannot rely on xda building their Android L versions and provide them to miui developers. That is what I wanted to say and why I think it is very long run to make it fully functional.
Anyhow, I have my fingers crossed and you have my full support. I will surely be among the first ones to try it

I've been reading forums about MIUIv6. I'm surprised. Too much negative criticism. System is too easy. Many useful features missing. What the hell is this? What's the point? Re-development. Instead of development. What is the matter?
