[Q] Will Not Wake from Sleep - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

My phone is rooted and S-ON and whenever it goes into sleep mode, I am unable to wake the device (it'll sometimes show the flashing green light if there's a notification waiting) and have to Soft-Reset (simulating battery pull) to get it to become responsive again. Do I need to go back to stock and re-root or is there something else that may resolve the issue?

What ROM are you on?

What Rom are you running?

^^^
I am still on stock build with latest software.

I would do a full wipe in TWRP (Dalvik, cache, data & system), flash a ROM and go from there to see if that resolves the issue.

I gave this a try... wiped it, installed a ROM (meanbean) and discovered the problem persists. I am using a warranty replaced device from Asurion btw (got it last week). Any other thoughts on this? I'm feel like ill need to RUU it and get another replacement.

That might be your best bet. Did you have issues with the phone prior to rooting it? If so, then it sounds like you have a hardware issue. I would RUU and see if the problem persists and, if so, get another replacement.

I rooted my replacement the same day, didn't notice anything odd during that timeframe.

I've noticed that since I activated my replacement phone, the old device no longer appears to have this issue. Is it possible that the SIM card or some other element/component that works while the device is in an active state was triggering the issue?

[Q] Very Mysterious! Completely Stock EVO 3D Won't Boot!

My wife's EVO 3D, completely stock, S-ON, never installed the OTA update.
The phone was on and she had it in her pocket and felt it vibrate, when she looked at the phone, it was booting up but it appeared to be stuck in a boot loop. She said she saw it rebooting itself (just the initial sprint splash screen) several times before she pulled the battery.
She re-installed the battery, but the phone wouldn't turn on. So she left it alone and brought it home.
The reboot loop was a bit concerning to me, but the phone not turning on sounds like a drained battery. So, I put it on the charger (AC power adapter) for about an hour (orange led is lit).
When I turn it on, I see the boot screen (HTC -> Sprint -> 3D -> Sprint) and then the screen goes black. The soft key LEDs are stuck on the entire time. but nothing happens. I let it sit like that for 10 minutes and it never boots. I've tried several times with the same result.
I can get into hboot (Volume-down + Power)... Almost feels like a corrupt stock ROM?? I can check the CRC, but I don't know the correct values... And no one has tried to root or flash it. I asked if she might have accidentally started the OTA update, but she says not likely...
I've searched the forums here and various others, and it seems all not-booting and endless-boot-loop issues are all due to people trying to root or flash an image.
So.... I don't have a whole lot of experience with Android... What's the next step before attempting a factory reset or bringing it back to Sprint?
Thanks!
EDIT: Typos
Wow, this is very weird. My advice is if you still have 30 day return use it or insurance, bring it to sprint. If not both call HTC and complain but I doubt they cover software issues, idk I might be wrong. Why fix it? Get a brand new one, you paid for it to be working, not broken.

You said you can do a factory reset? I'd say do that first before trying anything else. If it works, then the only thing she has to worry about is taking 30 minutes of her time to re-set up her phone.

Try removing the SD card and see if it will boot up properly. I had that happen to me once (boot loop and all). Phone would boot fine without the SD card.
I ended up having to format the SD card (connected to my PC with a card reader). That solved the problem.
This happened to my phone once. A factory reset from the bootloader fixes it good as new. It's been like a month and a half since then and I have had no problems since then.

I know! I had her not install the OTA because I had intended to root the phone... I'm so tempted to just root the thing and flash something nice, but I don't want to risk it in case it is a more serious problem and we need Sprint to replace it... Maybe if the factory reset fixes it for a couple of weeks, then I'll consider again...

Noooo, he can root and solve the problem that way. Just visit Haus's stock ROM thread, and he'll have everything there for you. A stock rooted ROM with all the OTA firmware fixes available for download. Just root first.
This is assuming you live in the U.S, and own the Sprint Evo 3D (CDMA).

Is this kind of failure a known issue with the original stock firmware? I'm not going to take the OTA to keep my options open for rooting in the near future.

Yeah.. I know not to take the OTA... I'm going to root it eventually.
I looked through the complete list of ROMs and didn't see Haus mentioned anywhere... Am I missing something?
Also, is there a common consensus on the top two or three Sense ROMs for the EVO 3D?

*14 days if bought on the 16th.
Try these things:
- Take batter off and hold power button down for like 10 secs, put battery back in.
- Download the RUU from a thread in the development section and flash it (it will replace everything back to stock).
That SHOULD fix it, if its a software issue, if it doesn't, or it still continues to act funky, just take it back to Sprint and demand a new one since you're within your 14/30 days.
Make sprint replace it the phone will be doing the so thing after resting it or trying any other trick its a software issue belive me I had 5 replacements because of software issues

Compass Not Working in Google Maps (ViperROM elite 1.2.1)

When I'm in maps and I double tap the location/compass button, it just repositions to my location and never enters compass mode. It works on my friend's unrooted One X though.
Can't find any posts on the issue in this forum. Any ideas how to fix?
Just downloaded a compass app and that doesnt work either. Could it be a hardware issue?
If so, will Sprint be able to fix or give me a replacement?
Shouldn't be the ROM because it works just fine on viper for me.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
I can also confirm that it does work on viper. Try to do a nandroid backup and then completely factory reset the phone and see if you're still having the problem.
Sent from my Evo 4G LTE
Did factory reset, wiped everything and installed deodexed stock rom. Compass still doesn't work, so I'm guessing it's a hardware issue.
What would you guys do in this situation? Try to get a Sprint tech to look at it?
Thanks for the help BTW.

Well if it is hardware related, yes take it back. Obviously something is wrong with it (although it's weird that you get a gps signal at all). Either way, you paid for it you deserve a phone which all parts work.
EDIT: Make sure you relock and run the RUU before taking it back, actually that might even fix the problem and since you have to do this anyway to take it in it might fix it.

Problems after updating my HTC Evo 3D

I hate to just come here and ask for help, but I haven't found any solution over the past two weeks, and I didn't see any similar threads in this forum.
I have an HTC Evo 3D through Sprint. Two and a half weeks ago I downloaded the update. The update appears to have worked in the sense that the layout and many features are tweaked a little. However, since I updated it, whenever I turn it on it turns itself off and then back on every few minutes. The reason for this is that I am in Australia so it can't connect to the network to complete the update. I have been here for nearly two months, and won't be back in the US until mid-November. I have solely been using my phone with WiFi for email, internet, etc, and I would like to be able to use it for this purpose again. I called Sprint but they weren't able to help me because there is no Sprint service or Sprint stores in Australia.
Does anyone know of a way to fix the phone? If I factory reset it, will it come back without this issue, or will I just have a phone that doesn't work and lost its memory? Would there be a way to fix it by rooting it?
All help is appreciated. I'm not very knowledgeable on this kind of stuff, I apologize.
Thank you, have a great day.

Here's a post with download links and some information about running the Sprint ICS 2.89 RUU. You didn't say if you are S-ON unlocked or S-OFF and the procedure is slightly different between those two states. If you have never HTC unlocked your phone and rooted your can just run the RUU.exe as if you were S-OFF.
ramjet73
I wonder if there is any way you can get an active Airave to connect to? Sprint obviously wouldn't issue you one in Aus, but perhaps you could have a friend or family get one, activate it, then send it to you in Aus.
Wait....are you saying as long as I have an Airave, I can get service all over the world?

Well, not sure. It does require GPS signal, so it may detect anything not in the US and refuse to work. It was just a thought. Anyone else try to use an Airave outside the US?
It sounds like you aren't rooted and haven't done anything outside of the normal update for the phone.
When you say that the it turns off and back on, do you mean that the phone is simply rebooting randomly? If so, then I think a custom rom might help you.
I don't think the factory reset will fix this for you btw. I also wouldn't try it unless I got a really good backup (which is pretty easy once rooted).
Thanks everyone for your help. I ended up doing an RUU flash using the info ramjet73 gave, and it appears to be working fine except that I lost all of my memory. I couldn't get it backed up before I did it, but I'd rather have a working phone without my old contacts and stuff than have it not work.

How do I do that?

No wifi no bluetooth - all kernels and firmware

At this point, I have to consider I have a hardware issue.
I am S-off and i have been on every RUU from Gingerbread to latest OTA ICS. I have tried MANY kernels with updated or modified radios and have the same problem through and through:
My bluetooth will not turn on and my wifi (depending on the ROM and or Firmware) will either stay on and intermittently say its scanning for networks or will toggle quickly back and forth from on to off by itself or get stuck at "turning on".
I have had no luck with BT or WIFI. I have spent hours searching forums for anyone in this same predicament and everyone else seems to get relief from updating Kernels or firmware, etc.
I was on CleanROM for the longest time with no issues (S-on at that time). Then the latest RUU came out and I flashed to VipreRez, since then, no wifi. Downgraded back to 3.xxx and back to CleanROM with no luck. I've tried updating kernels and manually pushing WIFI module files. Currently S-off to see if that was my issue but even going to the original GB RUU (1.xxx) and upgrading, I never had wifi or BT.
Im starting to think this is now a hardware issue. However, the wifi BT problem only happened after I upgraded to latest OTA.
I've been following directions on every flash for every rom, kernel, RUU, etc to no avail. Not a single one of them has allowed me to get wifi BT back.
Can anyone out there in their infinite wisdom give me a suggestion or perhaps something I'm over looking? THANK YOU SO MUCH
U aren't missing any of the contacts that make connection with the battery cover are you ?
Also, when you wipe before flashing are you making sure you flash boot ?

Thanks for replying. I'm S-off now so I didn't think it would be necessary to manually flash the boot.img. However, when I was S-on and first started having the problem, I would always flash the boot manually to no avail.
Also, I checked the backplate and everything is fine there. I've even gone as far as to place the phone directly on the wifi router to make sure it wasnt an issue with that. When the wifi starts glitching out and sliding itself off and on, it makes me think i can rule out backplate connections.
update
Update:
just flashed Rezound.Cubed.ICS.Kernel.1.0.7.Sense4 after wiping cache and delvik and WIFI now says "error". *shrug*
That typically happens when your WiFi libs don't match your kernel. S-off or not did you actually wipe boot and system before flashing? You symptoms sound very indicative of a dirty flash as you are ending up with mismatched components.

A RUU should have fixed all your problems all together. Sounds like a hardware issue. Call Verizon, replacement should be sent within a 5 minute phone call.

[Q] com.android.phone has stopped

My DNA has just started popping up the message "com.android.phone has stopped" and crashing the dialer every time I try to make a call. It worked fine for the first couple weeks I had it, and still works fine apart from making calls. 4G works and I get data. I've tried re-inserting the SIM, doing a factory reset, flashing RUU, and I just got back from the Verizon store where the swapped out the SIM. Nothing has fixed it.
Before I call the VZ warranty department I thought I'd post here and see if anyone had an idea. I'm a little worried they'll see my "Relocked/Tampered" bootloader and tell me I'm SOL. :/

Just to be clear, my "new" phone is actually "recertified like-new". And I have to send the old one back or pay full price for it. And if they find evidence of damage or tampering on the old phone I'll get charged $300. But yeah, aside from that it was pretty easy.
Guys, i am having the same problem! On every call i get com.android.phone has stopped ! Does anyone had the same and found a solution?!
I tried 3 custom roms(viper hatka and another one) no work, reflashed back to stock, problem remains!
I am also living overseas! Is this a problem?
Just out of curiosity, do you still have the little flap covering your microUSB port? I got annoyed with mine and yanked it out...now I'm wondering if it damaged the antenna.
I have removed it too, no way this thing can affect the operation!
It has to do with someone on you facebook or contacts has a birthday on Feb 29 find out which one it is delete the contact sync for that person or change the birthday
Thanks for the reply, have you experienced the same problem in htc DNA?
The solution you are giving is kinda strange, as i haven't passed any contacts or fb account to my mobile and the problem persists. Of course, i had done this one in the past, lets check what you just said, thanks!
