Building for SM-N900J - Android

Hi,
I need some help from the gurus. I have a device that no one seems to be interested in. It is the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 but the japanese variant. SM-N900J LTE, snapdragon, CDMA. I want to try to port or get help porting either one of the custom roms for the more popular note 3's or maybe even CyanogenMod. Ive looked up how to port CM to your device and read through it. Its a little overwhelming for someone with as little knowledge in this subject as I have. But I need this like I need water. Can anyone give me a hand with this? Especially one of the Note 3 rom makes from maybe the international LTE model's thread.. Also the 900J has no source code that I can find. I have requested through samsung open source though. Thanks

Don't give up hopes so soon

Does the device have a device git yet?
If not, I am very interested in what others will answer
If it does, then just clone that git into [SOURCE DIR]/device/[YOUR BRAND]

nope no git for it...
btw im not after anyone to hold my hand etc, just want pointing in the right direction and then sort it myself
I'm pretty much in the same shoes as you OP, except with the LG Optimus Elite.
If you are like me and this is your very first time developing i would think you'd need to look here http://htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads and study the source code.
As for other details, just as lost as you not to mention each phone is a different beast making it harder for devs to give us a one size fits all answer.
How do people start device gits, is something I also wanna know..
Maybe you could ask Kousch? He has all device and/or vendor folders...

tried that way, but it just went to htc.com/uk for some reason :/
Where can we get the other proprietary binaries besides those Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus?
Ok here is what I would.
1. Get a VERY detailed breakdown of your phone's specs. I.E. processors, GPU, etc, etc.
2. Find as many phones as you can that are as similar to your phone as possible.
3. Find out which one of those phones are supported by CM9, AOKP, etc.
4. Pull down their device folders and start your modifications off from that.
You are going to need someone to do the kernel however and I have no idea where to even start with that. That's still on my "to learn" list!
It takes a LONG time and a lot of scary moments with your phone, but I'm pretty close to getting my first "alpha" build here of CM9 myself!! And gosh is it a awesome feeling!

[Porting Dev Question] Differences between the Galaxy Note GT-N7000 and our GNote?

So I reached out to Gerrett the Dev who put together the
Vengeance Note Edition MIUI Rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688646
He said he might be up for the challenge but he needs to know the differences between the International and ATT note from a Dev stand point, and will need volunteers to test the rom and send log cats. I expressed my interest in offering my help and I sure others will join in, but I just need some help from one of our Devs to turn to when he has questions about our device.
Any Devs interested in helping out? If not, he said he is willing to give it a shot as long as there is not too many differences otherwise he would need the device for hands on. Is there anyone that can lay out the differences in hardware and software between the two devices?
Different radios kernel etc etc, this is more like overgrown skyrocket
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
Completly different hardware. Diff cpu. Radio....if u flash an international note rom on the i 717 note it will most likely hard brick it.
So basically the hardware is the only difference. Does this sound like it can be done? Obviously he does not have our device, so as much information as I can give him would be beneficial.

[Q] Lollipop from Note 2 to S3 ???

Hi everyone, well, Ive noticed galaxy note 2 is going to receive the last version of android (lollipop) oficially by sammy. I found the notice here in sammobile:
http://www.sammobile.com/2014/12/23...lipop-update-for-galaxy-note-2-and-galaxy-s4/
As far as I know, the international version of both devices (note 2 and s3) have the same chipset: Exynos 4412. So I was wondering if due to this we can expect to see ports from note 2 to our lovely s3 .
Is just a little question, as Im not a developer, and I read a post somewhere in xda saying it couldnt be posible to have oficial ports of the latest version of android in our s3 because of samsung and its no-documented chipset exynos, making ports almost imposible from other devices.

Questions go in the q&a area.
Hard to tell maybe, maybe not.
We already have developers working on a couple of LP's for our device, so I would say they will not port it anytime soon.
Either wait for them to be daily drivers or wait for a port.

Sorry for posting this here hehehe. I know the hard work from the developers as arter97 who has become a little famous, and Im sure we will have some stable versions of lollipop to our devices. Well, as i told you, im not a developer, but I want to know, it wouldnt be easier making a port from a device who has the same chipset than making a new AOSP based ROM?
I apreciate all the work from our developers and i dont want to question that, you have the knowlede and im the newbie who make all that dummy questions heheheh

Im not a developer either so im nit really sure whats involved but i agree with your theory.
Thanks for answer me, is nice to know Im not the only one who think that . All we can do in this moment is wait to see what happen, who knows, maybe we get oficially upgraded by sammy , anyways, we cant expect nothing soon, everything still under development c:
Have a nice day bro.

[Q] samsung galaxy a3/a5

sorry if this is in the wrong place, but i have recently bought the A5 (a5009) and have searched high and low on xda, but cannot find any support for the phone on this forum. As it is related to the alpha line, i was wondering if this sub-forum will be the place for news or ROMs for the A3/A5/A7? or have i missed something?
i feel its a great phone, but touchwiz is so ugly compared to stock android (in my opinion), and this could sway me away from the phone if there is no support.
i have noticed that it can be rooted already, but i dont see much point unless there are custom roms available or am i missing the point?
many thanks
Dom

If you can, return your A5 and get the alpha! . It is the value for money phone of the new series... It has 3x faster cpu and many times faster GPU and better camera than A5. :good::good::good:
To be honest, i don't think that anybody with some hardware knowledge will buy A5 or A7 at least until the price drops to adequate levels.
I don't want to turn this into a comparison thread as I just wanted to know where on xda I can find out about the new A series, but the alpha here in the UK is more expensive.
With my job, having an expensive phone is not a good idea as it can get damaged easily, that's why I went with a mid - range phone this time. I still have time to think though, so I may change the phone yet.
Has the alpha got many roms available for it?

There is ongoing CM11 port and there are 2 custom roms based on stock ROM.
And i think, that there must be separate subforum for A series...
If you root your phone you can remove samsung crap and install launchers... and you'll get whatever software experience you want, you just need to spend some time with it.
P.S. look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660354&page=1712 it seems thet there are several requests for A5 forums... Just wait (and maybe add request) and there will be forums for your beautiful device to!
thanks for the help!

Exactly! I've searched everywhere and I couldn't find good resources for the A7 or for any of the A series. Like you did, I did find a how-to-root guide but I don't see much point either without custom roms. I was actually hoping for an AOSP rom too and this is usually where I find everything I need but there's no forum yet :/

In the post above mine there is a link for a thread that users can request devices to have thier own forum. I noticed quite a few people are now asking for the A series, so cast a vote and fingers crossed we get one
Has a thread opened up yet ? i did post a request for a thread , have found sources for KK kernel at samsung and have started building the cm12 basic's device tree. would like somewhere to document it.
darkspr1te
I haven't noticed one opening up so far. There is a lot of call for one in the thread I mentioned. I'm assuming the forum would be announced if one opens up?
No idea.
congrats on the cm progress. I would love to test out what you have and having a forum would make it easier

I bought it for that reason, i have the hardware knowledge and it's a qualcomm cpu, i've requested a forum for A3/A5/A7 devices, i've got kernel sources and msm8916 device tree for cm11/12,
now i just need the forum.

@darkspr1te cool, do you have the sources uploaded? I would like to help out, I have the A500F.
Keep up the good work Darkspr1te. I am a bit of a noob on this and don't understand everything you say, but I'm looking forward to a mod for the A3.
Hopefully a forum will be opened soon.

Standard kernel sources can be found at samsung open source center. I have A500H/DS , sadly the sources i pulled wont even compile yet. Been busy on projects past week so i will only get into the sources again this wkend.
Still no feedback on a forum so i might hijack a thread here for now so I can at least start sharing.

Looking forward to a rom/mod for the A3!
love to see a galaxy A Custom Rom community.

you might want to start a thread on miscellaneous android dev.
Hello all, I have been following everything about the A3 recently since a cousin of mine just bought it; it´s so sad that there isnt a forum about this device. I would be happy to help on any new brews
It would be nice if they create a Galaxy A series forum. I have an A3, its a great small phone. I use it as my side phone(got a Note 4).
Recovery
Hey guys, I just found a Recovery, but it's Chinese. Working fine on A500M. Just flash with Odin. Now we can try to port Roms from other 410 SoC based devices!
ps: turn the phone on normally, and when the screen turn on, press volume down + power + home (yup, the same buttons of the download mode)
Srry by the bad english, I'm Brazilian
I was looking to get the A5 tomorrow...but the lack of a forum and ROMs is really making me hesitate.

where can i download the latest beanstalk build?

I love my note 3. So much so ive forgone my contract upgrade 2x. There are some great developers for the Sprint Note 3, Sac23, Freeza, and several others. I've used just about every ROM available for the Sprint Note 3 I could find. Ive been running Sac23's N3-N4 for a few months now. Just excellent!
But going all the way back to the SGS3 ive found that Beanstalk ROM is my favorite and i cannot find anyone building Beanstalk for the Note 3. I did find Beanstalk 4.4.2 for hltespr (sprint note 3) but that was built feb. 2014.
Is there anyone out there that is capable and/or willing to build for the note 3.
Tried building myself:
My ATI graphics card on my main PC has one heck of a time with Linux., so i dual booted my laptop but i cant figure out how to add kernel and carrier specfifc files and whatever else is needed to build a ROM that wont brick my phone. Ive already bricked my old S3 and a Nexus 4 trying. I dont want to brick another especially the phone i use for work and everything else including this post.
I am dying to get the latest build of beanstalk for my phone with all the latest add's from Scott. Ive been following it on google+ and it seems substantially improved.
Again if there are any developers or linux/android aficianados out ther willing to compile this ROM Im aware of at least 4 others that would love to use beanstalk on the note 3. Lol... 4... anyway if anyone does and has a paypal account i would be glad to donate to that dev.
Just wanted to extend my thanks and utmost appriciation for XDA and all the developers here in. Long live Open Source Android and Linux. The only place on earth where people willingly give their time to advance a movement.
Beyond that i sure would love to see Beanstalk ROM on my Sprint note 3.
Thanks again!

No your right it is for an s5. I posted it because it appears to be updated to 4.4.4 the OS for an s5 and note 3 are nearly the same. Maybe you can get someone to port it over to a note 3.
