So my Samsung mega At&T SGH-I527 phone is rooted and would like to put a custom rom on it , but when I run rom manager it asked me to make a custom recovery and I am not sure how to proceed from this point.
Thanks for anyones help On this
Can't be done yet. Needs bootloader unlocked or workaround.

I have a unlocked galaxy note i717 gingerbread 207. Orginally it was locked to telus but now im using it on the rogers network. So how would I get ICS? Do I have to wait for the telus release or rogers? I also heard it better to use a custom ics rom. So when I unroot my phone what is the best ics rom out there at the moment?
Why are you unrooting? As to which rom is best is in the eye of the beholder

I thought you need to unroot to use custom roms?

U got it backwards. I think u just got ur words mixed up. Rooting gives you super user contral and flashing cwm allows u to flash custom roms. Read the general stickies for more information.

This helped me a TON.
I've already rooted my phone. But now I'm stuck in the next step : Install "Clockworkmod recovery" because it doesn't works with Gingerbread.207 version. I didn't find an answer to this problem and it seems that installing "Clockworkmod recovery" is an important step before installing a new ROM. I just want to inform you about it.
It's never easy for canadian version of mobile phones to use the same rooting and flashing tools than worldwide phones. We really have less choice for custom ROM and the few really good ROM are made for US users. Well, if I find something, I'll let you know.
I have successfully bypassed hardbricking from rom manager on my galaxy gio and made a guide about how to do that. You are probably thinking right now "but wait, ace and gio are different phones! This can't work!" Well, wrong. This has also been confirmed to work on galaxy fit. So i need someone to test rom manager my safe way (which is 99.9% safe). My tester needs the following:
A Samsung galaxy ace, rooted and vem installed.
Have the ability to take screenshots.
Want to prevent hardbricks from incorrectly using rom manager
Please pm me if you're interested. I will give you instructions from there.

No, you make rom manager use your current recovery and configures to use that one.

Stop posting stuff like this. Rom Manager isn't 100% compatible with ace yet. It will brick any ace on stock firmware (you know, the firmware EVERY NEW USER STARTS WITH WILL BRICK WITH ROM MANAGER)
Rom Manager requires a custom kernel and cwm5 installed to have a chance of working brick free.

But tge one which I dl from play store bricked my phone.
I guess you need CWM compatible kernel before using.

The s3 is an easy root...I rooted and tried to install a custom rom, CWM touch screen backup comes up, but the rom itself doens't boot (black screen...battery charging comes up) is the problem here the ROM? I am using AOKP's rom and kernel.
...wrong forum. This is at&t sgs II.
But to answer ur quest...the problem is 99.999% never with the Rom.

Cousin: S2 stock
Me: S3 rooted
I got it to work
For anyone out there you need to have a cwm kernel installed then from there go onto your favored kernel. If you can get cwm touch to boot up problem is with the rom or in my case the gapps i installed with it. Other than that it's good
Glad u got it. Ur post wasn't clear.---but u say the problem wasn't the Rom, it was the gapps U flashed...hmmmm. Just messin lol.

Hi all, (this is my first thread)
I wanted to ask a couple of questions about which I am confused...
I am currently running stock 4.1.1 on rooted international galaxy s3..
Q1. Is there anyway I can get 4.1.2 OTA Without unrooting?
Q2. I am not sure whether the country I bought my phone from has got the update yet... So is there anyway I can check that...
P.S I got my phone from dubai..
But I live in India...
Thanks.

Give a try to the temporary unroot option in the superuser app...
Not guaranteed to work...
Download stock rom through sammobile.com and flash through odin only...

If you already have CWM recovery why not use CWM to flash a custom 4.1.2 rom thats based on Stock firmware (like Android Revolution HD)?
Thats just as easy, has more support, rooted and you'll have future updates faster as well.
I already downloaded omega v34 but didn't flash it because people have lot of issues with it.. Lag, random reboot etc. Stock rom will be more stable I guess..
I haven't tried revolution though...
I'll try it now..
Any other rom you recommend?
Thanks!

I had the same experience, Omega had loads of launcher redraws and sudden lag. No such experience on ARHD with Perseus kernel. That kernel now even has the exynos exploit fixed.
Nope, all other roms i've tried i never used more then a few hours.
Can you give me a link to the ARHD page?
Thanks!

Yeah, everytime you flash the stock image, you'll have to root the phone again... but so what?? I have my mobile sine 8 weeks and i think i flashed it 10times now, and lots of custom-rom installations, configuring the phone etc....
It's not a hard work, you just have to read carefully BEFORE you start rooting, modding or whatever. This forum is awesome and till now i really found an answer to my questions everytime without bothering the ither guys with a question that is already answered a thousand times just have to use the search... so, good luck and have fun with your rooted mobile. By the way, i recommend the Omega-ROM for galaxy S2 and S3, the guys are.doing a great job with their ROMs. If you own a S3 LTE (i9305) i recommend the Pandoriam ROM, works best for me
Best regards

Haha.. Thanks buddy.
Btw, I am not new to rooting, I have flashed at least 15 rom's on my old phone(galaxy ace)
But I was not a member of XDA then.. I just used to read....
But since s3 is much more expensive I wanted to be absolutely clear about the smallest of things...
Because with great power comes great responsibility.

May I know why you are not able to use Odin?
That is a very simple way to root.
It depends on your current firmware/kernel. I was able to flash and never used Odin I've rooted the phone using exynos abuse as I had really vulnerable kernel, then I installed Recovery by rom manager and flashed stuff from the open recovery. But make sure that exynos abuse works for your firmware before using it and make sure you know what you are doing and don't touch anything else then root option in this program
I install samsung kies. But still when i connect my S3 to my PC nothing happen. Sorry for my bad english

The date of purchase means nothing. I know that you have stock firmware, but there are many stock firmware versions (even if all are 4.1.2) and they have different vulnerabilities. I was at XXELL4 kernel at stock, which is old and vulnerable, but you may be on one of the newest kernel which can't be abused without ODIN. Please take more time to read guides and get more familiar with the phone, as your next post might start by "I've bricked my phone, please help" You will survive few days at stock rom and it seems that you don't know the basics

KIES & Odin do not play well together, hence you should deinstall KIES in case you want to use Odin, will save you a lot of time solving connection issues.
Otherwise as mentioned.

Do not use Kies!
All you need to do is install the drivers of your phone and once that is
done and Kies is opened infront of you open, go to
Task Manager > Processes > Remove All Kies Related Applications
and then use Odin to root your phone.
1. Provide us with kernel version.
2. Are you on ICS/JB?
3. Are you on OS X? If you are use Heimdall; Mac alternative to Odin. Otherwise there is no reason why you should use anything other than Odin/Heimdall, just flash CF Root.
what do you need root for? if you don't know the difference between Kies and Odin, don't root it, you'll brick it
