I can't seem to get rid of the samsung custom icon on boot. I read another thread that claimed it was caused by an error when rooting and to odin back to stock and try again. I have done this and I still get the custom icon. It's weird because on some roms I get it and on others I don't. Any ideas?
i'm confused...
you are rooted running a custom rom, right?

Yes, I had cleanrom and got the normal boot icon, but just flashed hyperdrive and the samsung custom is there.
When your on stock but rooted and unlocked you'll get that. If you install a custom kernel you can remove it.

ah, ok. you can change that if you want with a custom kernel, but why does it matter? you aren't gonna get rid of your phone in that condition, and if you had to back to vzw or asurion you can just flash back to stock unrooted and download triangle away.

I know it just annoys me I guess lol. I'll try a custom kernel and see if it goes away.
I had the same problem, I guess the kernel that you flashed caused the "Custom" logo. Well I just flashed stock MDK, then rooted the phone back.

Flashing custom kernels doesn't fix it. I had clean rom and faux kernel and didn't have it and now I have hyperdrive and faux and it's there. I guess ill just deal with it.

I haven't tried hyperdrive or faux yet, but you could always try to reroot.
Did anybody find a sure solution to this?
A custom kernel isn't the answer afaik. I used to boot Samsung everytime, even with a custom rom. However, it had since changed to custom for whatever reason the other day and I can't get it back. Used every kernel out, even flashed back to stock/stock with no luck.
Odin mode shows binary as Samsung Official status, and I don't see a flash counter. ...

Basically what happens to me. There is no rhyme or reason as to why it comes up custom
I saw somewhere else it is because of using a custom recovery. I was rooted for a day before installing TWRP then noticed the "custom"
Nope. I have a custom recovery TWRP and I don't have the "Custom" screen on boot.

Yeah, the "Samsung custom" didn't hit me til days after flashing a a ROM and kernel. I was trying to boot into recovery from powered off, and accidentally booted into Odin. Then when I rebooted again, it had the Samsung Custom splash screen.... I miss my Galaxy S4 splash screen. Looked so much nicer. But I'm not going to revert all the way back to stock just to get it back.

Oh cool. I flashed Hyperdrive 7, and ktoones TW kernel, and gave triangle away another go and it worked.

I'm running Darkslide rom with elite kernel and I want to get the custom splash screen gone and back to the samsung s4 splash screen. Triangle away stated not to proceed if I'm not running stock rom or stock recovery or run the risk of soft bricking and bootloops. Has anyone disregarded the warnings and proceeded successfully?
Rooted S4
Yep. It worked. It did not work on AOSP based ROMs though. I don't know why.
Edit: and also the custom unlocked icon will just show up at random. Run triangle away again and it'll be fine. I usually freeze triangle away after running because for some reason every three minutes it'll show up "triangle away has been granted superuser permissions"

If on mdk. Flash the mdk Odin package and boot into an "official" statused tw ROM like stock or synergy. Then reboot and flash whatever you want.
I hold the stock splash screen on AOSP based roms until through testing I end up flashing a bad kernel. Then I have to reOdin mdk kernel again to get it back.

Hi all,
So I did an Odin using the MJ7 No-wipe file and everything went good. I updated to MK2 via OTA and all went good. So I re-rooted using Saferoot and all went good. Then I installed Safestrap and things were fine. But then I went to flash HD RLS12, I used the Safestrap version and ran the setup. then installed the MK2 Moduels and then reboot... here is where problems started. I couldnt get pass the my phone to go past the Samsung Custom screen. So i thought, ok i'll just Odin back to stock like I did before. So I run Odin with MJ7 No-wipe file and it says Pass. The phone starts to boot up but I notice its showing the Samsung Custom Screen then the phone just shuts off. I pull the battery and power on and still the Samsung Custom Screen and the phone shuts off. and this is where im at...
I tried to Odin again, and again it says pass... But still the same problem...
any thoughts? Suggestions? HELP!
Thanks in advance....

Use Safestrap to boot the stock slot, then start over.
The most common cause of what you're seeing is that you flashed the NON-SAFESTRAP version of HD. I did that. Twice.
If you flashed HD over your stock ROM, you must recover by re-flashing a stock ROM. Then, do NOT flash over the stock.
I have the mk2 version of the galaxy s4. I had a rom installed using safe strap. I am planning on selling the phone to someone so i wanted to put it back to stock before I give it to them. When i loaded the default partition and ran the stock rom when I tried to do the newest update it kept failing. So I unrooted my phone and went into safestrap and deleted the 2nd partition I would not be using. I also did a factory reset and wiped everything else. Now when I tried to reboot the phone it is stock on the screen that says Samsung and says samsung with a lock. It will not go past there. PLEASE HElp!!
also when I do hold volume up, power and the home screen I see a flash of blue at the top left of the screen like it would go to recovery but it just resets and gets stuck.
In before the lock

i like thor better but odin will work. but if you need something magical, best go with loki.
If I'm not mistaken, you should just be able to flash "MK2VZW-downgrade4rooting-AIOdin-gogolie.rar" from the "4.x to 4.4.2 SAFEUp&Downgrade w Root n SafeStrap feat. 1File/Flash&Done!MK2-NC2/NC5" thread in ODIN and you'll be back to stock MK2 without root. From there you can do whatever, root it, leave it as is, upgrade to NC5, etc.
(anti-spam system won't let me use URL links, sorry!)

I have a verizon galaxy s4 (SCH-I545). I flashed the NC5 onto the phone after rooting it. I tried to install Philztouch onto it, but something froze up/crashed during the process. I now do not have ANY type of recovery, and the phone goes directly into download mode when trying to boot recovery. :crying:
I deleted and/or frozen anything knox from the phone... it still operates even w/o knox or a recovery in it!!
My situation is that I have used odin to try flashing twrp and other recoveries to the phone. odin says it was successful, but it still has no recovery or doesn't boot into recovery, and I want to install some custom rom's onto it. there is no safestrap and I don't want it.
So, how to put the stock or any other recovery on this phone so I can add new roms???

ok. my next addition/question is: will Surge's full wipe and/or pit file bring back the stock recovery so I can start over? this phone is cracked to now run on MetroPCS/T-mobile sytem and I don't want to go back to vzw.
So, will the pit file bring back my recovery... it does not have ANY recovery at all on the phone. here's the pit file I'm referring to: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23269279319199111
thanks.
edit
Even if I wanted to put safestrap on this phone, there is not any type of recovery in it to use to install safestrap or any other rom or recovery on it.
I have tried odin and it says it worked but will not boot into recovery, it goes directly to download mode. the phone runs, boots and has wifi, data, etc.
I want to know before I go into this if the pit file will work and not mess up things or should I try the entire process? The phone is working but NO RECOVERY IS INSTALLED ON IT AT ALL. (needed to emphasize this fact).
thankz again

If all you are looking to do is install safestrap then you can just towelroot/superSU/BusyBox/safestrap. If you mean recovery mode, as in holding down the power, home, and volume up buttons when booting up the phone, I'm not sure how to get that back on if its missing.

Seems to me you had MDK boot loader and custom recovery prior. And that you have blindly flashed the full NC5 build updating everything including your boot loader to a nice new shiny LOCKED one. If the boot loader is NC5 you get to join the Safe Strap club.

I was on 4.3 then got the OTA update and tried to flash it back. it crashed the phone. Ii was stuck in download mode, and i flashed via Odin the NC5 full wipe on this forum then later rooted the phone. I tried to install Philz touch, but it crashed or froze up during the process... and viola!! NO RECOVERY WHATSOEVER IS ON THIS PHONE.
When I try holding down the power, home, and volume up buttons when booting up the phone, it goes straight to download mode no matter what button combination i use.
I don't care about stock or any warranty... that's over and I had this phone converted from Vzw to MetroPCS already.
I tried safestrap before and I don't like it. I need to somehow replace or install a recovery so I can put a rom into it. and I don't have to use safestrap if i can put twrp or something else into it. So, it is open for custom roms and i'm looking at SlimKat to install on this phone. Now, if somebody has a tar file I can flash with Odin... then it's all good.

If there was a way to go back from NC5, there would be a lot of happy people around here, but there isn't. Having recovery mode makes no difference because your on NC5 now. You can't flash TWRP, you can't flash CWM, Safestrap is it.

will it put me back to a phone with stock recovery on it? can i use the .pit file to do it or the whole process?
Download the stock recovery and flash it using flashify.
I did the same thing you did with a S5 because I didn't know about the boy loader issues and thought I had bricked it because it would only boy into download mode. But after turning it off for a few seconds I saw that it was able to bout into the stock rom. Luckily I made a backup of the stock recovery with flashify and flashed it back and it was fine.

So, are you saying to use Surge's full wipe and pit files and I can get back my stock recovery? or is there a link to what you are talking about? hook me up with that link.
I do not have any backups and I an get flashify no prob. but I am not sure it will work as you indicated.
how about Heimdall? will it work and do the things Odin isn't doing? I haven't used the program but have a copy of the files on my PC. I need a little guidance before I kill this phone forever.
l. tried flashify and rom installer... flashify says it found and backed up my stock recovery, but when I try to flash it back it says success and reboot. then it still goes into download mode and the little red letters say unable to do normal boot.
I can get back to normal boot and the phone runs. I tried the buttons to get into recovery mode, and it still goes to download mode. I also tried to flash twrp with rom installer and it also says successful but the same results>>> download mode only. WTF!!?
I seem to need a tar file for all of this to work and most of the roms are zip files except Surge's files. anybody have a link to tar files with the recoveries in it?
As has already been stated in this thread , if you're on the nc5 bootloader, you can't flash twrp or cwm or any other custom recovery. Even if you get the stock recovery back, it won't matter. SS is you're only option. There are a million posts on this issue. There are a number of custom roms that you can run, most are TW based though.
I have a s4 running nc5 with ss and eclipse ROM I went to flash giglies chaos ROM last night and did nothing out of the ordinary just looking for the most stock aosp look and it wouldn't boot after the fact so I booted into recovery and factory reset the phone and after that is stuck at the Samsung galaxy s4 splash screen. I've tried flashing the nc5 full wipe tar and even downgrading back tomk2 to just go from there but Odin gives !e an error after doing anything even selectung the file to flash. It is Odin 1.09 idk if that has anything to do with it but please help I need my phone up and running again :\

The thread on Chaos warns that some theme choices could cause a bootloop and to wipe reflash if that is the case, for future reference. I would do as someone else suggested and get the newest version of odin. There is no reason why the full wipe method found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735172 should not work. You could also try a different USB cable and a different port on your computer.
