To back up your current rom you will need to root your phone and install a custom recovery to do a nandroid back up. Otherwise you can download a copy of stock rom from www.sammobile.com/. I do suggest to check the website has the right one for your phone and download it first before you start the process

I recently rooted the phone and wanted to install a custom rom. When I tried to back up the current stock rooted rom with rom manager, someone went wrong. So I was then stuck on a flashing black screen. But I can still access Odin/download mode. But whenever I try to flash something, it flashes, but the screen just reboots back to the flashing black screen. Help please I dont know what to do
What firmware base did you start from, and what method did you use to root the phone?
Rom Manager is not recommended for use on the I777 phone. You need a custom kernel which contains ClockworkMod Recovery to back up the phone. Did you try to install ClockworkMod Recovery from Rom Manager?
Need more information before we can help. So, answer the above, and provide as much detail in addition as you can.
I almost messed my phone up by not rooting or flashing a ROM the proper (safe) way and ended up using a return to stock / unroot guide to start fresh and just follow the guides for rooting and installing ROMs from there.
Hello Guys. First off i must say im very confused! I'm not very tech savy when it comes to rooting phones and such. So please when you reply could you make it as simple as possible. thanks
Okay so my phone is currently on 4.0.3
BASEBAND I9100XXLPS
BUILD NUMBER IML74K.XWLP4
Now i've tried updating to a later version but it doesn't seem to work. I'm not sure what im doing incorrectly. I think its odin that you wait for that Yellow light or something but it never goes yellow?
Anyway could you kindly link me to a stable firmware that i should use.
Could you provide any links for odin ( or any other software needed ) just incase there are updates because i haven't used it for a while.
Rooting
I would assume i would root after once i've updated to the new version.
Could you kindly provide a link that explains it pretty easily for me to root the phone.
My end goal is to put CyanogenMod on the phone.
If i've missed anything out or miss understood something, please feel free to explain.
thank you in advance for the help.
First, forget about doing anything until you get Odin sorted out.
You can root and flash roms without using Odin.......but if something goes wrong(like no bootup c/w cant acess recovery) then you are in big trouble because Odin isnt working.
skip the firmware update and jump right for cyanogenmod.
1. Download any version of CWM from here
2. Get desired rom
3. Place everything in Externel SDcard
4. Boot into stock recovery (Power+Home+Vol up)
5. Use stock recovery to flash CWM
6. Backup Current stock rom
7. Wipe the usual
8. Flash Custom rom (Or just kernel)
9. Reboot
10. ?? Profit ??
Now you got Custom rom or Kernel + Full stock rom backup (can always get stock rom from sammobile if you lose it)
Okay so i update the firmware wooo.
Wouldn't i need to root the phone to install cyanogenmod ?
First of all, I'm not a noob.
Secondly, I've already rooted my phone using the Framaroot method. (OS is JB 4.2.2)
Now now, i want to backup my stock recovery and my stock ROM.
I know i can backup my stock ROM using CWM recovery, but if i do that, i will lose my stock recovery.
So first i have to backup my recovery somehow, and then i can install CWM recovery and then use any custom ROM i want.
So, just tell me the quickest way to do that.
Pathathic forum
So now it's confirmed. This is the most useless forum ever made. This is not the first time i have asked here for help, and this is not the first time i haven't been helped here.
F*** this ****. I'm never visiting this s***** website again.
Guyz Help me on this.
I tried to search for proper answer on how to in other threads, but didn't found.
I have Mega 5.8
I rooted it few months ago with odin and have SuperSu app and bunch of other apps like Nandroid manager etc.
I am not much of techie but wanted to try out this rooting stuff.
However I didnt flash any custom ROM. I kept the original intact.
Now my device status & current binary status says custom in download mode.
I want to unroot and restore all back to official.
How to do it.
If you have SuperSu from chainfire then under sttings there is an option for FULL UNROOT. Try that...
download a new rom
Download an official ROM from sammobile and flash through odin. thats the only way out.
Hello guys, I am new in flashing world, so I wanted to know that in the process of rooting what if my phone will get bricked, is there any way to backup and restore current ZUI stock rom if my phone get brick? Although I think it isn't possible to install stock rom because the bootloader will be locked,so I just need a simple way to backup current stock rom and install it in the event of brick

Whole stock rom can be backup in custom recovery or via adb after getting root. Flashing custom recovery needs unlocked bootloader.
