Hi guys,
I just installed the Cyanogenmod 11 (Kit Kat) in my YP-G1 (US) and now the home button doesn't work. I have read that this problem could be solved with a "wipe data". Is that true?
The installation was made from the stock rom (rooted), then TerraSilent, then the preflash and finally the cm-11.zip (and obviously the gapps).
Thank you so much!

you are most likely missing parts of your efs. as the install instructions said, make sure you have a backup so you can restore it. just put the needed files in your efs folder and you should be set

I did not have this issue on CM 10.2, so flashing to CM 11 caused my EFS to disappear? At the moment, I am back at stock and trying to restore my EFS with zaclimon's dummy EFS, but I don't seem to be making too much progress, as I still am missing my lockscreen and power options.

I doubt that your efs got erased with the flash of cm11, have you checked it to see if everything was in order? If so are you able to restore your efs from the backup made into /sdcard/backup/efs?

I actually was unable to find any backups by the time I was able to access data again. Admittedly, I had wiped data in order to get everything up and running onto kit Kat, and even after that, I was not able to find a backup, which led me to resort to the dummy efs.
Wiping system after replacing the EFS with the dummy, and flashing factoryfs worked wonders. I am now back up and running, home button works fine, however, i still cannot seem to charge my device on CM10.2, something that I forgot to check while I was on CM11, so I will check that out now.
^ Same problem, can you help me with replacing using the dummy EFS? I'm assuming you follow Zaclimon's recovery method (using Heimdall because mine is US) but I don't know how to incorporate the EFS dummy file in there. I've reformatted to stock before but can't figure out what to do with the EFS.
I have no EFS backup though I did notice there were a couple files in a folder called system/firmware/efs
Although I fixed the EFS issue, my battery doesn't seem to want to charge. When it is plugged in, the battery indicator in the status bar shows charging, but battery stats in settings says it is not charging.
For the dummy EFS, just edit the files that Zaclimon says to edit in his post. Check your MAC address in phone information in settings, and copy that into your bt.txt. The buyer_code.dat can be opened up in wordpad, and I changed it to XAA. Lastly, serial.info should be your serial number, which you can find in the battery compartment on a sticker. After all of that is done, copy everything in the dummy efs to your efs folder on your device, wipe system, and reboot. That's all I have done to get it working. Once everything is working just fine, save that edited dummy efs somewhere, in my case, I have it saved in a Google drive folder, as the reason why I lost my EFS in the first place was because my computer was wiped along with all of my backups.
I've gotten and changed the three files but now can't find how to paste the EFS folder over the one in the system. I can't do it with file manager and permission is denied when I try doing it in ES File Explorer (even though it's granted root acces).
Also, there are two EFS folders on the system, on in /efs and one which is /sys/firmware/efs.....not sure which one to copy over.

Do you have supersu installed from the play store? I had a similar issue once before, just install super su and then reinstall es file explorer, then grant access through super su. Also, just copy over to /efs, make sure you transfer everything from the dummy efs, including the modified files.
I have re-rooted by re-flashing CM11 but the problem I'm having now is that ES File explorer says no space available on /device when I try and copy/paste the EFS folder there over the old one. The other file managers like Astro don't seem to work either when doing it.
Question...after you copy/paste the backup folder in /system, do you close and then format /system or wipe data/factory reset?
Ok, this is a very strange device. After copying/pasting another backup up efs withotu doing any factory or system reset stuff and just restarting....home button is working.
What I'm curious about is why some people can install CM11 without this issue and others have to restore the efs....there must be a way to install CM11 without having to worry about efs problems.
Home Button Not Working.
May I get instructions on how to fix the home button issue on the cm11? I am on Carbon.
Found a partial fix
Home button fix (without messing with /efs) worked for my wifes phone.
Still, quick settings doesn't work (can't switch to panel by pressing button from drawer)
Tested, incoming calls/texts work fine.
Run terminal
su
sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
“update global set value=1 where name=’device_provisioned’;”
Reboot your tablet/phone
You might want to "select * from global where name=’device_provisioned’;" before the update query, to be certain what you're changing from in case you need to change it back.

I have something like 20 or more files inside EFS_BACKUP folder in my external sdcard (Galaxy S2-9100). The file name are something like: "efs_30May2012-0540.tar.gz" with size 37.26KB. I tried to uncompress and the size changes to 5MB something. Yes i used to install a lot of ROM to play, everytime I install the new ROM, CWM alwayas making that efs backup.
This is first time I am installing AOKP (before was always AOSP), and now my IMEI missing and the phone not picking signal.
I've search all the best way I think to know how to restore "efs_30May2012-0540.tar.gz" but I could not find the instruction.
I dig trhu CWM menu, also not finding way/menu on how to restore "efs_30May2012-0540.tar.gz".
I've isntalled: kTool, SGS-II Tool, Root Explorer, also no simply way on how to restore efs using those app.
Can anyone shed a light to me on how to do it?. I have a lot efs backup under different date-name as above "efs_30May2012-0540.tar.gz", etc, but I do not know how to restore.
All the app above only can restore if the efs backup made by those specific app only, on certain save location only, etc.
I myself could not believe that the solution is not easily found in google (XDA) to best of my search ability.
Why don't you just flash another modem?

Hey so its really simple boot in cwm and navigate to backup&restore and you'll find an option to restore efs partition.
If there's no option for restore tell me i have other solution for you.
All,
Thanks for the response.
Mantulis:
My CWM comes from ReVolt 2.4JB is CWMR version 5.5.0.4, and there is no menu of "Restore EFS Partition" or such.
The only available restore is restore of nandroid files the one I made previously before installing any new ROM.
przemcio510:
Which modem to flash, my SGS2 is Intl version.
before I lost my IMEI, the phone missing 3G and EDGE, but I still can place a call. Then I read on xda to install GetRIL to get the internet back from Playstore, after GetRIL "repair" my phone, then I lost the IMEI.
You can't restore efs through CWM, Mantulis.
Cangguek, you have 30+ modems to choose
Your issue can be fixed by flashing a modem through Odin.
Ok so this is may other solution for you its more advance but i think you can handle it
Under condition that
1. you have on your phone back up file "efsdev-mmcblk0p1.img.gz"
2. this file contains correct/oryginal data (not corrupted)
3. you have adb on your pc
do following:
1. go to CWM recovery
2. mounts&storage - make sure /efs is not mounted and a place where your backup file is placed is mounted (eg /sdcard or /data)
3. connect pc to the phone and run adb shell
4. execute following commands:
gzip -d efsdev-mmcblk0p1.img.gz
cat efsdev-mmcblk0p1.img > /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
ADB for setting it up : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=879701
Good luck mate if you come up with problem just let me know.
I think together we can crack it
<Edit>
I just come up with what i forget GSII_Repair https://play.google.com/store/apps/...oogle&utm_medium=organic&utm_term=gsii+repair Try this first before using ADB method!.
Mantulis:
Thanks for write-up, restoring efs seems not as simple as when performing the efs backup.
przemcio510:
I will try to odin flash the modem, since it is much simpler. Doy you think flashing modem thru CWM will solve the problem?.
Thanks for the help all....
I had similar problem and flashing modem via CWM didn't help.
Only Odin helped me.
Did you read my edited post
Anyway good luck.

All:
Thanks for all support.
Finally I did as: http://youtu.be/bT9f7Ni315Y.
And using the file here: http://www.wuala.com/dinamicamedia/Galaxy_S2/ics_full_wipe.zip (file link available on the tube video).
Now my SGS2 back in service.
All detail of my phone were all returned: baseband, imei, serial, and imei sv.
I'm having the documented problem of no data connection, always on roaming, after flashing to CM 10.1. My prior rom was CleanRom 5.1, and I have several nandroid backups from various roms over the last few months. GS3 (d2vzw) with root and unlocked bootloader.
So the question is... What's the best way to restore IMEI info and get mobile data back?
As far as I can tell from the dev forums, these are the options, but there are a couple of steps I'm not sure of:
Option 1: Flash a nandroid recovery, backup IMEI using terminal emulator, and then crack-flash away
1. If I restore my phone to a previous backup, is the correct IMEI information included?
2. Also having a problem getting the MD5 sum's to match. Should I flash through ADB instead of clockworkmod? Or use Odin to get back to stock and then re-root? If correct IMEI included with flash back to stock?
3. Assuming I restore a nandroid, the plan was to use "reboot nvbackup" in terminal emulator to save IMEI info.
4. Flash back to CM 10.1.
Option 2: Use IMEI Generator and NV Reader/Writer:
1. Based on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1804117
2. Problem: The link to the generator tool in the OP is broken (404). I can get the converted IMEI number from an alternative program, but don't know how to format the text file correctly to use with NV Reader/Writer. Does anyone have a standard format of a dummy IMEI text file?
If you screwed up your IMEI file, what would you do? Mucho gracias.
Okay, I just fixed this issue after spending the better part of 2 days flashing ROMs, messing up my phone worse, and even calling vzw for support. Nearly tried to cash in on the warranty.
Steps taken (without any guarantees):
1. Flashed to stock ICS using ODIN. Flashed stock kernel as well.
2. Rooted the phone.
3. Downloaded ez-unlock (bootloader) from Google Play. Unlocked bootloader.
4. Along the way, I had a problem with my phone booting into factory mode, so I edited the efs file (labeled "factory" something or other) to say "ON" as opposed to "OFF". It's counter intuitive, but on is off and off is on.
5. Also went through the entire process of using NV reader/writer software. Tip: search for the explanatory video... it's a lifesaver. I ended up writing the correct imei file back to the phone.
6. Probably unnecessary, who knows, but I erased the efs file (after backing it up to Dropbox first). I also backed up the IMEI file.
7. Used Root Manager to get to clockworkmod, factory reset, and turned the phone on again, hoping to recreate the efs file. Efs was recreated, but this didn't fix the problem... Not yet.
8. Re-rooted phone. Re-unlocked boot loader.
9. Used a combo of Astro File Manager and ES File Manager to restore refs and IMEI files to proper place in phone. First downloaded (from Dropbox) to internal SD with Astro, then moved to top level system/root folder with ES.
10. Using ROM Manager, rebooted to clockworkmod and factory reset, clear cache, flashed LiquidSmoothRom and GApps, then cleared dalvik cache. (Note: this rom was pre-rooted but unlocked bootloader again anyway to make sure).
11. By now, I'm no longer getting the factory mode popup annoyance, my imei info is correct in settings > about phone, but still not getting mobile phone or data.
12. Here's the key, I think: Activated a backup phone, and in so doing, deactivated the sg3. Went onto vzw website and activated the Sim for the sg3. Now I have a working phone.
It may have been one crucial step, or maybe a combination of all the steps, maybe even a Christmas miracle. Just happy to have my best friend... err... phone back.
Please note: At one point while using a CM10 ROM, I noticed my imei info was correct, but not the phone number. I actually downloaded an app that lets you edit your phone number. Not sure if that did anything, but want to be thorough. Anyway, noticing that was what led me to focus on trying to reset the Sim. Vzw told me to do a battery pull and take out the Sim for 10 seconds, but that didn't do squat.
FYI, there's no *228 option on sg3. It was news to me. Hope this helps someone.

So you were restoring nandroid backup and you lost your phone's IMEI? No never happened to me. But you should have made a backup for it dude!
Edit: Okay got it. Install Root Explorer pro and check whether the efs folder is there or not. Set the same permissions from another I9100 and then reboot. Set the same permissions for each file in that folder and the folder itself. If you have made a backup in the form of .tar file then use HC ktool to restore your efs folder. It would automatically set the permissions required!

no thats not what happened. I rooted my 4.0.4 using Odin and Siyah Kernel v5. Straight after rooting it, i downloaded GSII_repair from the app store and backed up my efs. Then i downloaded Titanium and backed up everything. Then i went to recovery mode and made a back up. I finally flashed the Resurrection ROM v3.1.3, i rebooted, everything was working fine, like imei was there and so was signal, i restarted my phone and my imei number went away, so i used the GSII_repair app to restore, it worked fine. I restarted my phone again, imei was gone yet again. So i decided to go back to my stock ROM back up, imei was gone, i restored, everything working fine now. Just not sure whats happening because i have rooted phones before and that has never happened to me, every time i restart, imei goes away, sometimes it comes back, sometimes it doesnt. What has happened? just reallly confused. i have a back up of my EFS though.

Oh man that is really heart wrenching. Atleast you made a backup before messing with your phone. Okay now can you restore your efs? If yes then restore it and download HC ktool and make another backup for it. Then restart your phone and if you lose it again then restore it using HC ktool. You can try EFS Pro from your PC as well.

just restarted my phone and checked, the imei number is showing. i didnt have to restore or anything. Is it safe to flash a ROM now? or any risk of brick? thanks for your help btw
I also lost my IMEI no after a flashing a rom, as far as I was aware I had never made a backup of my efs folder, I attempted many different methods to resolve this, then I checked my external SD storage and saw an EFS_BACKUP folder with numerous compressed EFS files, I simply selected one of the early ones copied to my desktop and extracted contents and used them to replace my current efs folder on root of the phone, then reboot and you should have your original IMEI and phone working again, hope this helps goodluck

I get your point but with your IMEI coming and going, it would point too corrupt efs files on the root of your phone, given you have tried various methods already, I would take a copy of the suspected corrupt efs folder save it onto your pc, then go back to the root folder and delete it, replacing it with one from your EFS_backup folder on your external SD, no need to edit any of the internal files or use any other software, simply reboot

I'll appreciate if someone could help me here as I'm new to ROM flashing etc.
I have the stock ROM atm and want to install CyanogenMod 10.1.
I have read the guide but there are a few points that I'd like to clarify, which are not really explained in the guide.
I understand that I have to wipe everything to install the new ROM.
I have TWRP and have just made a full backup, after installing the new ROM,can I get all my stuff back, eg. messages, contacts, apps settings and messages(e.g viber messages) and so on?
if yes, how do I do so?
Thanks

You should use your applications to backup your messages / settings etc. if it is supported.
You need to create a folder named 0 in root of the virtual SD card and move all your contents under 0 folder.
Of course you need to flash the ROM with a compatible kernel..
After installing the new ROM, I've tried to restore the data that I backed up using TWRP but it didn't work.
Now I want to go back to the stock rom and I tried to restore my last backup but it's stuck on the htc splash screen.
I believe I need to fastboot the stock boot.img file but I don't have anywhere, where can I get it from?
Now I'm in a very desperate situation. I've been searching for a stock boot.img file so I could restore back everything.
I thought I found one, I used fastboot to flash the recovery.img file and then went to recovery to restore my backup
now all the data has disappeared ! no restore files etc !
what shall I do?

If you did not format /data partition in recovery, your data should still be there, but it sounds like there's something messed up with the /0 folder on your virtual sdcard, created due to multi user feature of android 4.2.
I suggest you chose a rom you'd like to try, flash the correct boot.img (kernel) for this rom, and then install rom using "adb sideload" command.
You should then be able to find your previous sdcard content on your phone using a root explorer and if necessary move it to the right sdcard folder for your android version:
Android 4.1: /data/media/
Android 4.2: /data/media/0/
if it's in the right place you should be able to backup your data to your computer, where it is safe while you can try whatever rom pleases you.

Ok, I managed to isntall cyanmod again but I can't find my previous data, all pics, music and everything is gone.
I didn't format the data so it must be somewhere but can't find it.
I can see any folder called 0 or 1 in the data folder
PS: FINALLy I managed to restore my last backup, all the settings and apps seems to be fine the backup retained all the settings, apps, messages etc.
however I lost all the music, pics etc.
I didn't format and I remember someone mentioned that they might be somewhere else, where can they be? as I can't see any path called data/media
there's a "data" folder in the device but is empty
Thanks
It should be on the root of your Virtual SD card - as it was...
However if you backup normally - music etc are not backed up.
If there is a 0 named folder in root of your VSD - check there...

yes there is a folder called "0" in the following path /sdcard/0
but is empty . I mean it has all the folder names (e.g music, dcim) but all are empty.
in Addition: If I check how much free space I have in my phone ,it says 55.6GB ,so its sort of emtpy :/

You must use a file explorer with root function and you actually have to grant superuser access for it, otherwise /data folder will be displayed as empty. As i said if you did not format /data partition in TWRP, your data should still be there.

ah sry, didn't read that. then it's most probably deleted... you can still check your /data/media/ folder with a root explorer, but it seem your data is gone...
I can't believe it, I didn't even format or anyting like that.
I had some important stuff in it and it's all gone now :/
Can someone tell me if there's a way to do a complete backup that includes media as well?
I'd like to try to cyanmod because ive lost all my data anyway, so what is the best way to restore all my apps, messages, contacts etc. once I've installed cyanmod?
THanks
change the cm10.1 name to just rom.zip then push

The only way to backup your virtual sdcard is copying the content to your computer.
So you're now back on stock rom or any rooted rom?
If you're rooted you can backup your apps and app settings with Titanium Backup, without root you should try Helium - App Sync and Backup. For messages you can use SMS Backup & Restore and the Contacts app has an export function.
After you made all these backups, copy all the content of your phones internal memory to your computer, so these backups are safe.
Then you can try any rom you want, copy back the sdcard contents and restore your backups.

These sort of backups seem to be a headache. The only good one seem titanium backup ,which I believe has the batch option but you have to pay for it; i heard is worth it.
I am back to my original rom, which isn't stock(i forgot that I had a custom rom lol) but revolution.
The app that you've suggested are very specific, for example I have kik, viber etc and these don't have a backup functionality-will I be using titanium for them too? does titanium do a full backup of contacts and messages as well?
Hi, i bought my galaxy November 2012 and since then I've made about 30-35 installations of roms..I searched around the forum and it seems that there are leftovers from previous installations, also, in some posts there are scripts that can clean your device, but the download links are broken...Can I delete leftovers manually with a root explorer?
Also, I've noticed that odin has became extremely slow, yesterday i waited for it for 40 minutes, several times I decided that it was stuck....but it wasn't; can this slowness be related to files, left from previous installations?
I saw this app - "Root Cleaner", should I try it out?
How can I make completely clean installation so that nothing old survives? If I use pit. file and odin stucks, will I be able go in "download mode" and reinstall...?
Hope that you can direct me! Thanks.
P.S. I'm trying to be understandable, but my English is not exactly perfect,so don't get mad
Downloading of script can be done, the links are perfectly fine!
I recommend Hawkerpaul's Nuke script (warning: this will delete every thing on yor device!!!)
Do not under any circumstances use .pit files!! Only if you're absolutely 101% sure what you're doing - then you can use .pit files. And there's a splendid Odin guide made by XDA's Hopper8. here you can read about it.

I'm definitely not sure what I'm doing, so I won't use .pit files. So i got this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2100558
I'm a complete noobie, i've read about it, there are 4 scripts, i'm not sure which one to use...
GS2ROMWipe - This wipes pre-defined areas of your device without performing any backups beforehand.
GS2ROMNuke - This does everything a Wipe does, and also deletes the following Android/Application-related folders on the internal and external SD Cards.
GS2ROMReset - This performs a additional tasks on top of a standard factory reset for your current ROM. This is designed to return you current ROM to its factory defaults. You will not have to re-install your ROM after running this. Just reboot and you will enter the Android installation wizard as normal on the first run.
GS2ROMClean - This will remove the following known temporary and corrupt files and folders.
It will attempt to remove them from your internal/external SD card.
I will use Nuke.It says to run it only before rom installations, but how does it work? I go into recovery, install it and how do I run it?

Okay, but keep in mind that this will delete everything even from your internal and external sd cards. So if you have anything of value, anything at all - back it up.
I suggest you download HC-kTool from play store. Back up /efs. Then the files that appear after the /efs folder backup - back them up to your PC or a cloud storage (eg. dropbox) If you want to know which files had been created, sort the files after date. (keep in mind that there will be folder created too and if you've chosen a 'folder come first' policy in your file explorer, those folders will appear after all the lonesome files)
Just to check. In my phone (i just ran it again) there will be two files and three folders containing the necessary files to perform a /efs backup.
Now that /efs is backed up - you are good to go. Just 'flash' the nuke zip file as you would flash any ROM/kernel
Good luck.

Thanks for the assistance! I ran the script through recovery and it "wiped" everything then it warned me to flash new rom.I did so, everything went OK , but it hasn't wiped the internal sd card, all my files are still there, i hope it has erased the leftovers from previous installations....Thanks again!

It wont delete everything in sdcard. The system files will be there, but application data wont.
Glad it worked out!
PS. Don't say thanks - press it!
