[Q] Lumia 800 RM-801 1750.0823.8862.13110 South Africa - Nokia Lumia 800

Hi All,
I have been given a smashed Lumia 800 RM-801. Getting the LCD and Digitizer replaced tomorrow. Lucky the phone was given as a "If you can fix it you can have it" gift and the guy fixing it is doing it for free, with some KFC on the side. Anyway. I want to 1750.0823.8862.13110 on it, as that appears to be the last version available in NaviFirm+. Side note, made a donation, much nicer than free version as you can select easily. Highly recommend it. Anyway, I check under this software version and the only one listed is a CV is Italian Magenta. Can I install this on my black Vodacom ZA device with product code 059N230? Will it be in Italian, can I select English when I set up the phone? The latest version for Vodacom device is 1750.0805.8773.12220 and I fear that it's not WP7.8.
I will be getting a Lumia 925 or 1020 in April, but I want to play in the mean time. Miss the days on WinMo 6, when hacking was easier.
So, bottom line, can I install the Italian version by playing with the product codes as per GiffGaff or am I just going to be stuck with an Italian device?

Question about buying lumia 800 in a foreign country

Hello everyone
I will probably buy a nokia lumia 800 in malaysia during my holidays and i would like to know when i will be back home ( in france) if i will able to upgrade the firmware of my nokia lumia with french version without brick the phone .
At the first time, i wanted to buy Samsung galaxy S2 but i have seen that there are some problem about firmware upgrade .
Thanks you :cyclops:
I bought mine in India and using it here in Germany. Even updated to Tango. I guess the update is device specific meaning mine is RM-801 tied to India. Irrespective of whichever part of the world you are only if the update is released for the country of mobile origin (in my case India) you can update
BTW i force updated my Lumia 800 to Tango using Zune

No SD-card for 920, however on the cheaper 820 there is a sd-card slot.
EDIT:
From WMPoweruser:
Winfuture.de reports the Nokia Lumia 920 will be released in Germany in mid-October and will retail for 600 Euro ($758, £476).
The Austrian art magazine ‘Future Zone‘ reported that Nokia wants to deliver the Lumia 920 from the middle of October in Germany. They expect the handset to initially launch only in a few countries, much like the roll-out of the Nokia Lumia 800, before being available everywhere.
The handset will be introduced first in Germany, France, Britain, Italy and Russia, before becomes available in late October in Poland. The Scandinavian countries, Portugal and Spain will receive the handset a short time later.
The Nokia Lumia 820 will follow 2 weeks later in the same markets and will retail for around 450 Euro ($568, £357).
Of note is that the Samsung Galaxy S III 16 GB without LTE is 580 Euro, making the 32 GB LTE Nokia Lumia 920 very price competitive.
A cheaper version of the Lumia 920 without LTE will also be available.

They said it already during the Windows Phone Summit 2 months back. They won't be integrating Skype into the OS. They will allow any VoIP App to fully integrate itself with WP8's Dialer and allow it to run in the background (which includes Skype but won't force Skype on everyone's handset (which would lead to problems with carriers)).
Does anyone think the specs might be wrong? I was disappointed when the 920 didn't list AWS support, but then when I saw that the 820 also didn't list it I became a bit suspicious since many are saying the 820 is destined for TMobile US.
The Nokia 920 its too heavy and big for a 4.5" display, 130.3 x 70.8 x x10.7 mm and 185g.
It's a shame because the rest of the hardware (camera, screen, built materials, etc) and the nokia software, are great.
The Ativ S by comparation with a 4.8" display has 137.2 x 70.5 x 8.7 mm and 135g.
Sturdier shell, bigger camera compartment (you need room for the camera assembly to move for the optical stabilization to be able to work), the extra Hardware for wireless charging and due to the improved touch technology by Synaptics I guess they need more room for the screen as well (I'm pretty sure it's not on-cell technology as with Samsung's SuperAMOLED).
er , someone say lunch?
oh. launch.
yawn.

That 920 would of been cool if it only had the SD slot.... Oh, well, HTC's is on the 19th, maybe they will have something to blow away the 920. Over all besides the lack of the newest Windows Phone 8 standard missing (MicroSD), the 920 is a great phone

Some people are hard to please the L900 was 127.8 x 68.5 x 11.5 mm and 160 g.
Considering all the new tec in this phone it is only 25g heaver and slightly thinner.
Wish Nokia went with Android instead. Looks to be a decent handset but I won't go near it with it having Windows.

try it out first? yeah I'm an android fan too, but mostly for the apps not the actual OS :S I'm growing a bit tired of the icons business... but what I didn't like about the windows phone was the app list either :S I preferred android's screen/icons over the app list.
Kind of want just the metro UI as homescreen and android's app drawer lol.
back to topic, yeah, try out the windows phone, I'll stop by store when it's out. Nothing to say I'll buy it, but this phone is one that I'll make a stop in to at least get hands on with
Prices are 450 Euro for Lumia 820 and 600 Euro for Lumia 920. Worth or not ?
Source for the pricing?

This phone will definitely be subsidized under contract with phone companies (speaking of US)
As for AT&T USA, I'm thinking this phone should sell for $100-$200.

"price competitive" (which requires signing a 2 year contract AND possible etf's) isn't good enough to entice folks already comfortable with their respective platforms.
the s3 has a very good reputation. the 920 has..... what?

[Q] Flash Lumia 920

Hello.
I have recently bought a Lumia 920. The network operator is printed as "Sw variant Adriatic CV v511.01". As I am a German, and I bought it in a German shop, I would like to flash it, to become a unbranded 'German' version as I fear updates for this region will appear faster than in the current one. Also I would like to use the newest available OS version. Now here is my real question: What should I do now, and how should I do it? I am very new to the WP8 Nokias, as I only had a HTC WP7 device before. Therefore I am really looking forward to detailed answers to help me
I attached two screenshots with my system information.
Thanks in anticipation,
FlashTek

[Q] German unit in England

I'm in England. If I were to purchased a MediaPad in Germany, change the UI language to English, and bring it back to the UK. Would I be able to use it here without problems, or might there be issues with updates later on? Any thoughts/tips would be much appreciated, thanks.
I think there should be no problems since the region falls under Western Europe, and the Germans seem to get good updates.
Officially it should be the 7D-501L.

LTE might not work with all UK providers.
Many thanks, guys. Hmmm ... the LTE comment worries me slightly. Part of the reason for my considering buying in Germany (as well as that it's cheaper than in the UK), is that I've read on a couple of threads about people buying the English model and having trouble with telephony, saying that for some reason that the UK version is not good as others. Can anybody speak for that? I want to buy the M1 to use as a hold-to-your-ear phone, so this is a critical factor for me to sort out before purchase.
There was a thread he discussing that pretty much all work except xyz?
Found it: forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-mediapad/general/honor-x1-uk-sim-data-access-t2853362
Wherby the TO has a 503L. But the discussion contains all needed data. The 501L has mor european frequencies if I recall correctly. But pls do check.
Apologies for the delayed reply, I'm already abroad and had trouble logging in. Many thanks for the help, but I'm afraid you're over my head, and I need some guidance. I don't understand the terms "xyz", "TO", "503L" or "501L". Any chance of layman's language please?! If I'm going to purchase an M1 I'll have to do so Friday latest. Thanks.
xyz=anything or whatever
TO = thread opener = you
Sometimes called OP = opener.
503L short for Huawei Honor X1 7D503L = chinese 4G/LTE version
501L is the international 4G / LTE version.
I would not get the M1 unless 8" is a desired factor.
Many thanks for that, I'm grateful. Yeah, 8" is very much desired over 7", otherwise I would certainly go for the X1. I think I'll chance it with a German M1 then. It sounds as though even if I do have telephony issues they should be solveable, so I won't end up with a useless device. I'll get one on Friday then, unless anyone posts anything here to the contrary...!
It will work. You just may not be able to select a specific LTE provider due to the frequency it uses.
For what its worth I have a Chinese 501u in the UK, and it works great on Giff Gaff (but 3 think its a tablet )
Thanls. What worries me now is that I'm currently with 3 so fear I may have to change to GiffGaff.
I'm afraid so.
I'm pretty certain the 7D-501L supports all three LTE bands used in the UK (3,7,20 or 800, 1800, 2600). The simple reason is that these are the same three bands used in Germany and across Europe: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks
Also, see here:
http://www.devicespecifications.com/en/comparison/11b918f9
Hope that helps.
Many thanks for that. The M1 had been on sale in Mediamarkt Germany for EUR 209, but incredibly on Thursday, the day before I was going to buy one, it was withdrawn from sale in favour of the X1 - grrrr! Consequently I've returned home without one and so have decided to give the whole purchase a bit more thought.

Software Update and Region (Germany vs Switzerland)

Hello mates
I'm lookin forward to buy my first huawai device, but I'm not sure where I should buy the device. Let me explain this a litte bit more:
I could buy the Mate 20 Pro directly from Switzerland, for a very good price. But I also coud buy the device from Germany, also okayish price.
Now I'm not sure if it is a difference if I buy a non branded device from one of these countries, in the term of how I receive Updates.
In the past I used a Samsung Device bought in Switzerland, and my German Neigbours got their updates Months before it was availible in Switzerland.
Do you know if Huawai also uses different Region Updates, or is there someone, who owns the device from switzerland/germany who is at the newst version, were they released on the same date?
If you're in CH , buy in CH for the guarantee. As for the updates, they are really random on Huawei. I got my M20P friday (from CH), I put my SIM inside and got the -.122 (two patches) directly. Some people who got their phones in the UK, but live in the UK, depending of which SIM they put inside they did or didn't get the last update. For example people who had an EE or O2 SIM didn't get the update, they then swapped to a Vodafone SIM and got their update right away. There is THREAD discussing this.
