Brick repair - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I am new to rooting and needless to say I bricked my phone. I looked through all available resources on the internet and came across Mobiletechvideos.com and was very skeptical, called them and finally sent my note 2 from verizon to them. Took about a week and I got my phone back better than new!!! I would like to share these guys for anyone who has run out of options and is stuck with a bricked phone. They were awesome and the real deal. Repairs made were brick repair and root rom Jedi x. Phone and installed rom worked flawless. Thank you Mobile Tech and day forum member for their posts. If I can help one person with this info I am happy.

Googled it Definitely not a shill!!! Lol

Must not of checked to hard! I'm new to unlocking and rooting and flashing roms! I bricked my phone and looked online and found that all I had to do is download Oden, stock rom for my carrier/model phone and pit files...Followed directions and my Note 2 was unbricked and back to out of the box stock! And probably saved myself time and money And learned a few things too!!!
Dig deeper next time, there is alot of info on this kinda stuff online. XDA and You tube has it all

What everyone is (rudely) trying to say is that you should have used these forums first as you could have easily fixed your phone without shipping it away and paying for service. If you ever have problems again, make a new thread in q&a and people will help you out.

Well you have to try to enter download mode first.
If the jig doesn't work, your Note is done for. Good rule of thumb is, if you are even 1 % unsure, WAIT IT OUT.

That's what you should have done in the first place. You might be better off trying to get a warranty replacement. If the phone is bricked, they won't be able to tell if you tried to do something to it anyway. Just an idea. Hope you learned your lesson. Should have been a given.

About a half hour of reading in the first place would have saved you the 600+ dollar paperweight you just created. In a half hour, you could effectively figure out that n7000 ROMs are a big no-no for the i717, learned how to root your i717, learn how to flash CWM on your i717, and flash an i717 ROM to your i717.
Not to condone screwing over AT&T, but I would suggest you do the following, if you by chance have the monthly insurance on your phone: report it lost or stolen, pay the $200 deductible to order a new one, then take your old one which is now completely useless, and smash it with a hammer, run it over with your car, burn it, spray paint it, burn it again, smash it some more, wrap a strip of firecrackers around it and light it off, use it for target practice for the nearest firearm or paintball gun, then put it in a display case to keep in a prominent location in your home or office as a reminder of what a lack of reading can do to your device. Then, while you are waiting patiently for your new i717 to arrive in the mail, take the time to READ everything you can about your specific phone so you know every in and out of it before it is in your hands.
All joking aside, the best you can probably do is report it lost or stolen, order a new one, and then see if somebody needs it to try out JTAG repairs for the Note. I'm not sure if JTAG has been accomplished on the i717 yet, but that's probably the most use your phone will ever provide again.

No one has even asked the guy what his description of s brick is...cause everyone throes that word around like it means whenever your phone is in a state of not being able to use it
Op does your phone do ANYTHING AT ALL? bootloop, hang at splash screens, only show charging symbol when plugged in? All of those aren't bricks and are recoverable
If your phone just sits there and does absolutely nothing, nothing at all, like a corpse, then that and ONLY that is a brick.
What exactly id your phone doing?

Fine. As you should. But you should also follow the rules when doing ao. I gave my advice in this thread as did others in which the same advice (not by me) was also posted in countless other threads including ones the OP posted in. If you forgot here is a refresher for new users:

half assed Halfcab

Halfcab was to root our phone - a simple process according to them. in 3 days they have managed to brick one of our phone and then not properly root the second. Now it is working very poorly. now they have blocked our emails and will not respond to us. According to them a simple download is needed so why are they not responding. Avoid as you probably will not get what you pay for.
Better taking the advice and know how from the xda site, rather than some dodgy phone guys...

Are you sure it's bricked? You can't get into recovery or use adb?
Personally, I wouldn't let someone I've never met remotely flash my several-hundred-dollar phone (if that's how it was done). But that's just me.

I would let the unlimited.io crew or con247 toy around with mine remotely; such has been done during the initial release of the JuopunutBear S-off method. But only because I have observed them to be legitimate developers seeking to better user experiences and knowledge for knowledge's sake. Definitely not some random XDA reader with a website storefront and access to other people's ROMs and tools.
Edit: read the post below this one. Then read it again; it pretty much sums up the situation.
I a firm believer that if you can't root your own device, you should be stock... Hell I'm even against the one click root utilizes for inexperienced users.. part of having root is the understanding that you are now tech support..the only way your going to learn is to do it the hard way. Not by plugging in and clicking root... Ever notice on any forum for a phone with a one click, there's a ton of "help I'm bricked" threads... Funny thing is you never see these before one click is available...kinda hard to become tech support if you have zero knowledge of what a Linux OS is and how to move around with terminal..
Basically I almost don't feel bad for the scam, shoulda took the time to learn what's involved with being rooted...sorry

that sucks...but it honestly is partially your fault...i cant rembember the last time i handed someone money or bought somthing without doing research...google is your friend ...if you would have done research you would have realized you were getting a kick in the nuts for 60 bucks...take it as a lesson...

[HELP]Cannot Turn On S3 After Flashing Cuztomized Rom

Hi,
I just gotten a new Galaxy S3 from AT&T and I decided to root the phone and wanted to flash it with a cuztomized ROM. My phone was successfully rooted and I tried flashing Android Revolution HD ROM ( a cuztomized rom from xda). Right after the phone done flashing the rom and was trying to reboot, it did not boot or turn on. I cannot even start the phone. The phone was just not gonna startup no matter what I did. I could not even go into the recovery mode or download mode so I could not do anything to fix it. Anyone can help me with this? Thanks.

Sounds like a brick .. sorry mate.
Well I think you might be able to get away with telling em you were doing an update through kies and the cord got yanked by your cat halfway through... or send it to someone for JTAG. There's a couple reputable buisnesses that do this and with a fast turnaround and relatively low cost considering the cost of the device.. maybe somewhere around $50 bucks (just a ballpark.. could be 60.. beats me) user connexion2005 does JTAG and I believe he has support for the S3!
..but lesson learned. Read, Read, Read .. I am sure the OP of the ROM you flash states plain and clear which device it's for. You need to know which device you have and are modding, and not by its generic name.. "GalaxyS3 international variant is an GT-i9300" .. not sure what the at&t variant is but its not GT-i9300
*edit* actually it doesn't state it in the OP that its for the GT-i9300 variant ... but it is in the GT-i9300 forum.

Warranty issue

Just wondering if anyone could answer this for me real quick. I had recently hard bricked my LGOG (did the most stupid, noob thing u could imagine) and had insurance on it thru ATT. Got them to send me a replacement and now I'm worried they will know that I had rooted/unlocked it and the cause of the 1st phones failure was caused by me and therefore voiding the warranty. The lady I spoke to about the warranty explained the process to me then explained to me what happens if warranty is voided, and its not pretty. Kind of nervous now. Anyone done this before or have knowledge on this subject?? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Just realized this might be in wrong forum section. Sorry. Q&A, troubleshooting may be more appropriate.

If you have insurance... you can just say you lost the phone, which means you can't send it in. That way they have no idea the warranty was voided.

Well, you should honestly not exchange phones that you brick. You guys even have bootloader unlocked so you must have noobed hard to actually brick the phone. Why didn't you just use lgnpst?
I have no idea if they'll find out. But you said you had insurance, insurance covers basically anything with a deductible so as long as your ok paying the deductible I wouldn't worry too much.

That was orig plan but I thought by doing that I would have to get new number. Found out that's not the case after the fact . Lol. :banghead::banghead::banghead:
U live and u learn I guess. Its funny though, I always learn something very valuable by making the biggest mistakes. Lol.

Well that's what I thought too. Here's exactly what I did. I had the new stock JB 4.1.2. I had debloated it. U know, i customized it to my liking, ie, ME's super awesome B18c1 kernel, etc. ect. I had LGNPST'd it to the new JB. At&t phone BTW. Anyway when I first got this phone 1st thing I did was root/unlock and installed Snow's JB ROM. Once official JB came out along with the new 4.2.2 ROMs (vanilla root box, chaos) I wanted to try those and LGNPST'd to official like I stated earlier. Well, out of all those ROMs, and I don't know why but, Snow's JB ROM with ME's kernel worked so amazingly and I loved it. Most of all battery life was just retarded good. So, that's when i, without thinking too much about it, decided to flash back Snow's ROM over the JB ROM. Soon as I did that instant brick city. I just thought it may have had something to do with the TZ partition or something like that. I've soft bricked my phone a couple times by just not thinking clearly and never had any problems getting into download mode and LGNPST'ing back to whatever I needed. I'm just thinking now I should have LGNPST'd back to 4.0.4 or whatever it was before 4.1.2. Idk. Maybe someone can shed some light on the subject. Idk. Doesn't really matter now. I will never do that again. Anyway, thanks for the replies. I feel a little better. Thanks again. I really love the XDA community and love our little LGOG community!

I've returned two 'bricked' phones. I unrooted and set back to stock all my root changes, and then did a full factory reset, and the phone would fail to boot (softbrick most likely) and both times I didn't hear a peep. And this was without the boot failure being the reason for the return. So, if they don't ***** about that, you shouldn't have any trouble.
You can file an insurance claim for any reason, your fault or not so long as you don't mind paying the deductible. Warranty exchanges are what sometimes get people in trouble, they're for manufacturer hardware/ software issues.

Moved to Q&A
In the future feel free to use the report button to let the MODS know to move it.
This is my second hard bricked LGOG that I'm getting a replacement for via warranty. This last hard brick was from a teenybin which I found funny. Either way, my phone had a locked boot loader for the second round. 1st one was unlocked, rooted etc etc and no one noticed. You should be good.

Yellow Triangle

Ok here we go, I used Casual to root my i605 and flashed the wrong Rom(Hawki s4 for the 7100) it worked but it didnt recognize my sim card. Then the next day I started getting a yellow triangle saying unauthorized software found on device. Please power your device off and go to the nearest Verizon store. it would still work just no sim reading. Now it only will show the yellow triangle. I need to unroot the phone so I can send it back under warranty. Got a replacement already. Just need to return the old one so im not charged 600+.

What you should have done in the first place, instead of asking for a replacement and conspiring to commit fraud, is flashed the phone back to stock via Odin. This is why Verizon locks the bootloaders, people mess their phone up BY NOT READING and expect the carpet to replace it instead of owning up to their mistake.
Since you haven't been reading here is a link to droidstyles guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024207
Section 1b explains what you need to do. After you fix the phone, which is very easy, *you* need to read the WHOLE GUIDE at least once before you do ANYTHING to your new phone. If you have any questions about anything ask the community.
Next time read before you do ANYTHING! If you mess your phone up, by flashing a ROM or tweaking with it in some way, grow up and accept responsibility for screwing it up and either fix it yourself if it's soft bricked or have it JTAGed (by the guys at http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/) if it's hard bricked. Don't commit fraud by forcing Verizon to pay for your **** ups, the community does not appreciate that because *WE* end up paying for people committing fraud.

For your info I did Read all the info I found. Grow up. You can be disrespectful to someone else. Its not fraud if I purchased another. Thanks anyway Mr. Ethics

It is fraud because you directly said you need to return it for warranty.
Addition: I did try flashing in Odin but The Odin3.07 on my computer didn't recognize my device. I do have the Samsung device driver on my laptop it just wouldnt recognize the device. Believe me I search for weeks before I even made this post.

The problem isn't that you made this post. If you had made this post upon first realizing you had flashed the incorrect rom you wouldnt have had to contact Verizon at all. The problem is you ARE committing fraud. The $100 or $200 you paid to replace your phone is subsidized by the warranty/phone insurance which is void if you have tampered with the phone's software, or are the direct cause of any damage caused to it I believe. Your mistakes affect everyone on Verizon. XDA is founded on the sharing of knowledge. Dont bash someone for tough love and A DIRECT LINK to exactly what help you need.

+1 no amount of back peddaling will save you from the fraud that you already committed by warrantying out your phone, yes we can all read your 1st post, because you screwed up.
And this thread is prime exame why carriers are locking bootloaders...I guess I will break out the crayola crayons for the next guide I write.
The reason why odin did not recognize your device is because casual borked the driver...this is explained in the stickies.

Mature is growing up and realizing that YOU ****ed YOUR phone up and fixing it if you can or buying a new one if you can't fix it.
What's immature is you coming on a forum and bragging about committing fraud. So that would be you my good sir.

You have been given the link to Droidstyle's guide by shangrila. All the info has been provided to you. If you can't follow directions to fix it, that's your own fault. Droidstyle's guide is written extremely well so you can't blame it on anyone but yourself. So when you can't fix it and you get charged for the phone, I'm pretty sure you will blame this community for not helping but no one will care. Have fun
Similar incident happened to my GN2 (Casual crashed my phone). Read droidstyles guide, and was up and running.
I panicked at first, but kept searching & found what I needed. Hope this helps!! There are VERY knowledgeable people here to help, but you MUST try to fix it yourself first, or ask WHERE to find a thread/guide. THANKS!!

In terms of fraud, I don't understand all the fuss. The op is simply trying to restore his phone to stock for a warranty replacement. Big whoop. But yes he should do due diligence by reading and searching before posting for help on doing the restore.

exactly my point when I said calling the kettle black...
a mature individual would man up and pay the piper for his mistakes....instead of committing fraud for a simple mistake that could of been easily fixed by following stickies in this forum. a warranty claim is there for when a device fails mechanically or at the hardware level...its not there for incompetent users who cant follow directions. again this goes back to my post why verizon and other carriers are locking bootloaders. the yellow triangle is there to let verizon know you are a noob that tried hacking the device unsuccessfully.

OK, upon rereading I see the guy screwed up his phone by flashing the wrong rom. He either irresponsibly didn't read up enough or irresponsibly ignored warnings to only flash roms made for your model.

Yes and then he doesn't bother to try and fix it, he called a Verizon and got them to send him a new phone by playing the "I don't know what happened but now it is bootlooping" card instead of owning up and fixing his **** up. That is fraud, why we pay such a premium price, and why they're locking our bootloaders.

Ok........ for all the know it alls. I wasnt returning for a software issue. I was returning for another because my child broke off a piece of the headphone jack in the port. that was my error, it's an insurance situation not warranty. I have another I bought at full price and I do have more than one that I flashed I just never ran into the triangle. Everybody is so concerned about committing fraud when ppl already committed fraud by unlocking their phone flash back to stock rom and sending it back for warranty. I never committed fraud because I still have the phone. I spent my money. I came here for help. Not for people to be condescending. I own up to my fault. I appreciate the help. For all the mature people.

Thats a cop out...if this was the case you would of mentioned in the first few posts, not after being put on blast for fraud.
Its not fraud to mod your phone, all that does is void the warranty. Putting it back to stock and sending it back is far from fraud as the device was returned as recieved. However bricking a device because you do not know what you are doing and then calling verizon for a warranty replacement is fraud...Nice try
