since kitkat is here does anyone know if installing the apk to enable the GEL will work now without the bugs it had previously? i have been wanting to try this out but ive read the search bar is uncentered, the search app force closes all the time etc.
I have also read there is a fix to this but it is still laggy and has some bugs. I'm wondering if this is currently or will in the future be stable enough to use as if it was intended for the ONE GPE as i dont like dealing with software that doesnt function the way it should.

I want to use Cyanogen or Slimbean etc. but I frigging hate the Camera app and I really hate the clock app too. I really don't want to use an official rom for my phone but I really cannot part with those apps.
Is there anyway I can use something like Titanium Backup to save the .apk and just overwrite it over the Cyanogen/Slimbean one instead?
I can't stress how badly I need to do this, it's the deal-breaker of Cyanogen.. I've never tried it before but I don't want to waste a couple of hours flashing and revamping to find that I can't do it.. :/
Has anyone tried? I can't find another thread over it... just on the HTC camera app.

AFAIK you can't. The camera app on Stock rom is a touchwiz based app. Won't be compatible with CM
What if I move touchwiz with me? You mean the launcher right, or is that something different completely :/ is there really no way to even try and get it working as a beta? I mean it's leagues ahead of Cyanogen's Camera app and I take so many pictures with my phone... I really miss those options.
Touchwiz is not just the launcher. Its the name of the software framework running on the phone (android x.x + all the other stuff including the interface, camera, messaging apps etc. Since the camera app is part of that, it's impossible to port it to for example cyanogenmod.
You should just wait for android 4.2 to be ported to the s3. As far as i have seen the camera works great with many options !
Once upon a time, I had a working version of chrome on this tablet, but for some reason, the apk got deleted out of my precious downloads folder where I keep my apks and I ain't got it no mo'.
Does anyone have a link to this or able to pull it from their device with AirDroid or Titanium backup?
And while we are on the topic of running these types of apps, was there ever a run-able Google Now for older devices? I have never seen one. Thanks guys.

i never managed to do it. i know nowadays chrome is for android 4. and above only, but in case you make it work - i would like to know how.
sorry i can't help you. i can only wish that someday soon, we'll have a normal android version.
Attached is the "working" chrome. I don't know how it compares to the current version. I'm sure it has bugs and all,but it seems to run, for me. The accomanying widget is disappointing.
I will use it some and see how it does. overall though, i am pleased with the stock browser. shoot me if you like

so far every browser i tried was nice at the beginning and after a few days/weeks of use got sluggish. its this damn 3.1 version..
It force closes every time I go into some menu and back out of it is all.
I would just like the stock honeycomb browser with tabs at the top, without this ATT skinning, anyone know how to make that happen?

You may remove the ATT Skinning, however you have to firstly ROOT the Jetstream, then you will be able to set your own Homepage.
As an alternative to Chrome, you may wish to install FireFox
Hello, the google voice typing works fine on stock rom but after i installed paranoid android it stopped working.
If i tried to use it in the google search at the top of the page it would say that google search has stopped and closes the app but if i tried in the messaging app it would give me the same error (i think but it disappears to fast to see) and the keyboard disappears and wont come back and the only way to get the keyboard to appear again in every app is to go into language and input and disable google voice typing.
I have tried returning to stock rom where it works fine and then installing Paranoid android again but the same thing happens and it doesnt work. I also just installed a different rom called carbon and it also doesnt work on that.
It works fine for my friend who has also used the same roms from the same download link.
I thought it may be something to do with the G apps file i downloaded and thought about downloading a different version but when i checked the two custom roms they both came with different date G apps so i dont think thats the problem.
Anyone have any idea on what else i could try to get it working as i use this feature a lot.

Does the Google voice search app work for you?
Is it telling you there's an update to Google Search, but giving you an error when it tries to update?

Hello everyone,
I have tried looking around the XDA forums regarding my issue but my case seems a bit unique and so I haven't really seen any threads that solved my problem.
I have always stuck with AOSP and AOKP roms solely for their customisation capabilities and quick updates. Only gripe I have with these is just the poor battery life, which is why I went back to using a sammy rom.
Specifically, when I use a 4.3 stock sammy rom (i.e. I was using Indie's Omega Rom when this first happened), after I record a video in instagram and try to upload it, the app crashes. I can get to the page just before the caption page and the app crashes. This isn't just specific to the Omega Rom but all 4.3 stock roms I have tried, so I'm thinking that this isn't a rom-specific issue maybe..? But it might be something to do with the camera itself?
I have tried wiping the dalvik cache, fixing permissions, and even formatting my whole phone - both internal and external storages, so I'm not sure what might be the problem. Which is why I hope someone can help me out
I have seen some threads which have said it might be an issue with changing some camera settings but I haven't touched these so that shouldn't be an issue.
On a side note, another issue I've noticed with the 4.3 stock roms is that apps such as LMT don't work even though they are running in the background and I receive toast notifications about them having root access and all. Not sure if this is related, or something else completely.

For example, I need to find LG's backup app because, as I saved all my contacts in an .sbf file, now I no longer have access to them.
Another app thai I used quite frequently is Quickmemo, do you know any other good alternative to this?
I also cannot find any good app for my camera, notes and recorder.
Cyanogenmod's recorder stops every time i lock the screen, while the camera is slow when focusing.
I am looking for apps which are lightweight in terms of ram space.
Can you please help me find apps which are compatible also with my rom?

This CM12.1 rom is not complete and was abandoned a while ago so it is likely to have bugs. As for the apps, if you do some research you may find some ports of LG's apps for AOSP ROMs but they are rare, and unlikely to work because they need libraries only included in stock ROMs.
Try to find a more stable ROM with AOSP camera working before you attempt anything.
