I find that even using task killer my phone slows down, if i reboot the phone, its super quick again, any ideas?
I would also like to know why. Over the period of a day the phone slowing loses memory and slows down, and each time I use task killer I end up with less memory than the last time I used it, this continues until I reboot the phone and it's super quick until then the whole cycle starts again which is very annoying. I'm using MoDaCo 3.1 on GSM Hero.
Try to search in the forum!

Hello u there!
First, try to use the search button and u will find out, that the others are annoyed about the same thing.Inclouding my self. What i read on the forum, there are a few things to speed up your phone: uninstal the application what u don't need, clear the cache, and history and data from your browser, check if one of your aplication is making data folder (there are a few on the market, but i don't remember which one), or root your phone .Beside of that if you search and read in the forum u will see that the OS is using a lot of memory to run, so it is someting left for aplications like 150MB, or something like 30 pcs of aplication from market. P.S.In the task killer there is a optinon on the menu, sayng "kill all app when the screen goes off". Hoppe this is help u some how
Hey Everyone,
Just got my Droid Eris yesterday and I'm having fun exploring the phone and checking everything out.
One question, I noticed that many apps (in fact, almost all) don't have a direct "Quit" or "Exit" command. So I'm usually pressing "back" or "home" when I'm done with something. This left me wondering though... when I use "back" or "home", does the app actually exit? From what I can tell, it doesn't... so does the OS automatically clean up these apps from time to time? I came from WinMo 6.1, and it was irritating that everything defaulted to running in the background. How does Android treat it? Is there something special in this regard with the HTC Sense UI? I've seen there are some third-party task manager apps you can get... are they worth getting? Or just "let the phone do it's thing" and i will be fine?
Thanks!
I use a Task Manager from the Market called "Taskiller." But I'm still trying to figure out how the Hero handles the apps because sometimes it gets sluggish and taskiller helps out but then theres other times when I have all sorts of apps open and it runs smoothly, lol, I guess it just works sometimes.
I wonder if it's like the iPhone, where it kills the task when you hit the "Home" button. It doesn't seem like it, as some apps seem to just come up instantly when go back in them, as if I was "switching" to them, and no re-opening them...

No I dont think thats the case because Android has a special way of "Multitasking," though I'm not completely informed so you might have to research that on your own. But like I said download a Task Manager from the market so you can see how much available memory there is.
By default, Android applications never really "close" as their components can be called upon at any time. (Android applications are structured to be very modular, allowing individual components to be used from each.) When an application needs memory immediately, and another hasn't used it for a while, it shoves the old app into what's called swap space (presumably it's on your SD card) while the new one takes over. This is why you'll occasionally see a delay while performing a "hard" operation (like opening an app) while the system is under heavy load. That's the old app's memory getting written out to temporary storage and the other one taking it over.
At least this is my understanding of the situation.
From what I've heard Android (linux) does a much better job of managing the memory used by our apps. And, that we "...shouldn't have to use a task killer..." to close out apps that are running in the background, especially on our phones.
For instance, the myTouch 3G usually only gets about 20-30 MB of RAM freed after a full clean up of background apps, the Eris will have about 80+ MB after a cleanup and they both feel about the same to me.
I still use Task Panel to close my apps sometimes because I just like starting fresh in an app from time to time. Also if things start getting fishy (screen stuttering, touch screen not working properly) I'll kill all running apps to see if it fixes the problem which in some cases it just does not and a reboot is still required.
I have found that by holding the home key it will bring up all the apps so you can switch to the one that you want so it is still running them in the background.

i use a Task application called Task Manager. It gives lists of all Applications running, all process and even has an uninstall feature. It also has a auto end application feature but on my eris it's greyed out(maybe Pro only?)
Here are a couple of links that I found on this subject. Don't mind that it says Hero in the thread title it talks about android phones in general. Also something to look into once we get the Eris rooted in the second link.

Hi,
When i kill all the running applications on my Experia X10 mini pro using Advanced Task Killer, it sometimes makes me reenter my pin. I've found that this is caused by killing "Backup & Restore". So i want to add this to my ignore list, but it's not in my list of running apps.
Is there a way to add apps to the ignore list, if they are not currently running? Or is there a way to force this to be running?
I'm running stock everything, straight out of the box.
You don't have to auto-kill. In fact you shouldn't with 2.1. Android will auto-kill if it needs more memory for apps you launch.
I just use advanced task killer to selectively kill running apps if I need them to die.
Having said that, advanced task killer does have auto-kill functionality and an ignore list to do what you're asking.

This phone has android 1.6. Also, I like my batterylife, so i regularly manually kill all open apps.
I know it has an ignore list to do what i want, but the problem lies in getting this app on the ignore list. Most of the time, it's not listed in ATK.
I have never had the need to auto kill anything since android 1.5. The only time there really is a need to kill something is if it hangs or leaks memory (in the later case you really should contact the developer of the app).
Most of the times if you auto kill everything it gets started directly due to schedule or service. Give it a try for a week without using any atk and you will probably see an improvement.
I would like to have the maximum of control on running processes, but I feel I have not enough control, so I hope you can help me
I know that being root, managing processes and disable "autoruns" is a quite easy task but unfortunately my device is not an easy to root phone
Furthermore, I saw that Android (4.1.2 Jelly Bean) performance is very bad when you have many apps installed or you used many apps recently. Yes I listen about the internal management and I am aware that it is not a suggested practice but since I want to have control on what is happening and i have serious concerns about the algorithms to free RAM (maybe bull****), so I prefer to do it on my own risk
What I am doing is go to
-Settings, Application manager, Running, "Show cached processes"
- Settings, Application manager, Running, "Show services in use"
Identify what apps are in use and i don't like, then go to
-Settings, Application manager, All,
select app and Click "Force Stop"
Doing it my device has a better performance however, some apps still going alive after some time, for instance: Email ( I saw other in the past)
Using "Autoruns" app and checking "email" app I can see with changes of state can start "Email" however, sometime "email" is reenabled after be manually stopped but none of previous conditions happened.
How can I kill "email" or other app and force to stay off? (disable it and install other email app is not a valid answer)
I would like to use email/others as an standalone app, I mean use when I want and have out of memory when I am not using.
Besides, the autoruns, is there any scheduled task or something like that to open apps?
Of course I want to root my phone and I am waiting until someone will find a proper way to root, in fact I think that an android without rooted is like a car with square shape wheels
I think I found the cause for "mail" app being executed automatically, today it went alive after select "flight mode"
Now I would like to control Google play services, I am seeing some of these being executed continuosly, can they be killed? how?

more info about processes, mem and autostart
I am still fighting with Android and how it manages processes, now I am sure that my main problem became each time I went into flight mode or it is restarted.
But it is not only Email being executed and being using in memory but other processes that I am not using doing that, such as:
(Mem. on OS monitor- Mem. in "service in memory"(android settings))
Event: Connectivity changed
-youtube 22.2MB-6.2MB
-Google play services(com.android.gms) 26.8MB-12MB
-Maps 20MB-4.9MB
-Factory Test (18.6MB -3.4MB)
Event: after Startup
-youtube 22.2MB-6.2MB
-Software update (18.0MB-4.3MB)
-Internet (com.android.browser) 18.9MB-3.3MB
There many apps which are executed after events like previous but they are closed after a very short time, but I am frustrated about those which are not unloaded.
Regarding "Email" app I decided to use a free email app and as Email cannot be disabled, so, I removed the accounts associated to email app, however even without accounts configured, it still being launched and wasting resources. can I avoid it?
What do you think?

It's not possible to do what you want without root, unfortunately (unless you're talking about normal apps, in which case you can uninstall them to keep them from running). An alternative would be to use Greenify, though it won't be fully automatic without root either.
What about editing the startups rights?
Has anyone used APK permission remover?

Apk permission remover never stops an app from automatically starting. It only helps in removing the permissions we see during installation.

Yes but after SO long I found the app 'autorun manager pro', and it allowed to disable triggers /autoStartups/autoruns
We have some Note 4X Phones in use. Generally, we are satisfied. But this daily and recurrent notification, which is showing in the status bar (in the drop down notifications), is not acceptable.
Of course, we have disabled all settings in the Updater App, which are possible for disabling.
As long as the 8.5.8.0 is not as good as the 8.2.10.0, and as long the 8.5.8.0 has bugs, we are not able to update. Therefore it is no solution to do what the Updater want to do. Also all solutions which require a rooting are not practicable, because due security reasons, rooting is not allowed.
Try this, go to settings>apps>Updater>Show notification and disable all possible

Ah ok sorry I did not read, then try disabling the data network momentarily, then in the update settings, deselect auto update, then go to the applications and empty the updater cache.
Sorry for my bad english.

ALL Buttons and Switches in "Settings>Notification and Status bar>App: "Settings">" are disabled. Except the first one setting "Show Notifications", because this one is not selectable (it is faded out).

Thank you very much for your help.
Unfortunately, I have already disabled "auto updates" in the "Updater App". But this was no improvement.
In the meantime I've tried a second setting, but also without success:
I'm here: Security App - > Data Usage - > Restrict Data Usage - > System. Here I've disabled the "Updater App".
But all Apps here are listed in the column "Mobile". Now, this means, the disabling only works during a mobile data connection. Therefore, the disabling will not valid during a WLAN session.
The second indication is, that in the following path: "Security App - > Data Usage - > Restrict Data Usage" there exists not only the menu "System". The second selectable menu here is "Installed". Under the menu "Installed" there are listed many apps. And here are exists two different columns. One column is called "WLAN", the other column is called "Mobile". And all apps are listed in both columns. The reason is that the users have the choice to restrict data either for "WLAN" or for "Mobile".
But the bad thing is that in the menu "System" there only exists the column "Mobile".
Now, how can I restrict the data for the Security App also for a WLAN connection?
But as I described above, anyway this solution also doesn't work - if anything, than only with a mobile connection.
But principally, the aim isn't to restrict data, the goal is how to avoid the notification of that stupid "Updater App"?
Has anyone a working solution for me?

Were you able to find any solution? I am facing this exact issue and it's really infuriating
Force stop the app and dismiss the notification
And don't open the update settings again
You could try disabling the Updater application with ADB.
Get ADB & fastboot here from XDA from this link, install it on a computer.
Then, enable Developer options. Go to Settings -> About device and tap MIUI version a few times until it says they've been enabled.
Now go to Settings -> Additional Settings -> Developer options and enable USB debugging.
Connect the phone to the computer, type 'adb devices' without the quotation marks and make sure the phone is detected. The phone will pop up a notice to confirm you trust the computer.
Now, type 'pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.android.updater' without the quotation marks. This will disable the built-in Updater app, removing any notifications coming from it.
This does not require root.
Just use Titanium Backup and freeze Updater app.
It will not show anything until you run it manually, or you restart phone.

This is the best solution, it helped me.
You can map your back button with long press to force close any app. If you mapped it, just open updater and long press the back button. It will close updater app and dismiss its notification. It will only come up again if you manually open the Updater app again and search for updates.
Also its not necessary to map the nav keys
Just hold the app window from recent apps view to get app info and hit force close button at bottom.
any one tried xezrunner's solution? any good? I hate this notification crap that mi has foisted on all of us.

On my phone, the 3Gb Global Version, some MiUi app can't be frozen, including updater.apk (MiUi 9.2.1.0).
Coming back to this topic, I made a backup of the aforementioned apk with Titanium. Would it be safe to uninstall it completely or should I go the ADB route? I'm asking because the case happened to me once with another phone where the system wouldn't be the same despite the backup-restore by Titanium.

You could uninstall but make sure to backup it first in case you run into some issues, personally i'd just freeze it. (it will appear as uninstalled until phone restart)

correct me if im worng, titanium backup freezing function only works if you have paid version.
Maybe you don't have that.
try it with some other app like Lucky Patcher, that app isn't primarily for freezing aplication but it have option under tools to freeze packages. Just be careful to not play around with other tools if don't know what it used for.
