That means your speaker phone is off. It's supposed to represent a Soundwave frequency but looks more like a heartbeat ekg reading. If you turn your speakerphone on it will disappear.

Anybody remember that old tv gameshow called "To Tell the Truth". Here is my input on what that symbol is. It is your Noise Reduction icon. While on a call hit your menu button and I believe you should have an option to turn it on or off. Seriously....that is what it is. Has nothing to do with volume or speakerphone. It changes when you go on speakerphone because it disables on speakerphone I think.

So I'm guessing nose reduction doesn't work with the speaker phone then which is why it disappears.

Yeah, I edited my post to say that at the same time you were posting. Seems the Canadian JB ROM took that feature away so I can't verify 100% myself.
You are definitely right!

Hello.
I find the volume in the earpiece speaker that is built into the phone to be too low, even at max factory setting. I'm talking about the earpiece built into the phone, the part you hold against your ear.
Can someone please provide one of thos secret codes that will give access to somehow change the maximum volume to something higher.
Also, I would like the ability to increase screen brightness to higher settings, if you can please provide a secret code and instructions for that also.
Thank You Very much
I don't have any such codes and also find the volume too low during calls but God, man, why on earth would you need a brighter screen? This is by far the brightest and clearest screen I've ever seen on a phone. You're gonna fry your battery and your retinas both at the same time!.

LOL. Well such codes must exist. I was able to do this 5 yrs ago on a motorola razr. Surely this computer of a beast vibrant must have some setting for volume adjustment!

Ya if you need it louder your hearing is probably going but.. if you look around in the service menu there are audio options. No guarantees that your speaker won't be blown or that you won't mess up the phone depending on the settings.. the speaker on this phone is much too loud for me, especially since it's really bassy and resonates into my ear. I can feel it damaging my hearing.
There's a hack for most other android devices such as nexus one whining increases the volume by a good margin, I don't think it has been ported over yet though l.

how can I access the service menus, besides blowing out the speaker what other type of phone damage can occur?
The nexus used a kernel hack/mod to increase the volume... I'm not sure we're there yet in terms of mods...hopefully it will come soon! Not that I need it but I can see the use for it.

there's 3 various volume settings - the first one is for the ringer - when you plug in your headphones, the media volume activates once you select a video (ie youtube) - the 3rd is for notifications - when you click the volume rocker click the gears to the right and you will see all 3 to adjust independently of each other.

Had any one of you note2 users encountered problems with vibrate?
The vibrate works fine for phone calls with or without sound but once I get notifications with or without sound half of them randomly will be normal vibrations while the rest will vibrate as if the phone isn't getting enough power. It's not a constant vibrate.
It's very annoying. Has anyone one of you experienced this before? Do you think I should unroot and lock it and send to VZW?

No that's only for the ringtone. My notifications sound like the phone is dying and can't vibrate.
I think I might have to consider contacting VZW.

Oh gotcha. on that problem, it might be hardware. Have you dropped your phone. May have unseated the vibration device. lil half disk that spins. Not sure where it's found under the casing. Haven't taken a Note II apart yet. Maybe when I kill this one to get the Note III i'll pull it apart.

I have the same problem, on full stock I dont remember this being an issue but I didn't stay on stock for longer than 6 hours.
Mine doesn't necessarily sound like its dying as much as the vibration is either extremely weak or extremely strong. It varies from app to app; for instance my keyboard is in between, my email app (Aquamail) barely has any vibration after being set to vibrate and ring when receiving a message, and the eBay app has an extremely strong vibration that's easily stronger than any of the other apps vibrations. Even stock SMS and phone apps vibrations arent as strong as the eBay app.
I've begun to wonder if it has something to do with the rom instead of the phone, like I said earlier I didnt notice this until I flashed Cleanrom ACE.

Many notifications have different vibrate values - if that makes sense.
For example, I can tell when I'm at work and get a notification what it is based on the vibrate. I know when I have a snapchat waiting
I like it and consider it a feature.

See I knew they had different values but the values for the same app are constantly changing for me no matter what I set it to in the apps that allow custom vibrations. The only one that seems to be consistent is the call vibration but I don't get enough calls to be able to know for sure.

Yes, the thing is it either doesn't work or the vibration strength isn't consistent. It is all over the board with the same notification. I can get 3 texts in a row and each vibration will be completely different.

Can anyone comment on how strong the vibrate is on the S4? I'm coming from a Galaxy Nexus and am looking for something stronger. Thanks.
you can actually set how strong you want the vibration to be on the S4. I keep it at max and it works fine for me. I can even hear it faintly from across the room which also helps.

Oh wow that is awesome. Is it configurable by Tasker? That would make it even better.
If you flash the KT-SGS4 Kernel you can set the vibration strength anywhere from 5-130% within it's settings app.

I assume it can be configurable with Tasker since its a standard setting, but i've never used Tasker so i'm not positive. Someone else can confirm or deny.
Going back to my Eris days, all phones have at least ten times intensity as that one. S4 has a pretty solid vibrate.

I flashed the Google Edition ROM to my S4 and the first thing I noticed was a huge increase in haptic feedback, it has me thinking that there can be a mod out there somewhere to increase the settings more than what the stock settings will allow. if anyone finds or develops anything, please send me a link .
I am so close to having my S4 perfectly modded to my flavor...at least for this week.
