I also don't have a bootanimation.zip file in the system/media folder so can't replace it - instead I have the bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg files.
Any other ideas how to install custom animation in this case?
Many thanks :fingers-crossed:
Try this may work on u

It wont work for the i527 because the bootloader is locked so we cant use a custom rom if you look around they have ways to modify the samsung files so u can have a custom boot but its nothing as simple as a quick app or adding a file you need to move the samsung boot animation file to your desktop and modify it or create a custom one with tools then overwrite the system file.
If we had an unlocled bootloader we just install a custom rom or even twrp or tcwm or something then use that to install the samsung fix personally id into cyro but kind of impossible at the moment.

Someone gave me the phone.apk for a dialer and when i put it on my phone i restarted and now i cant get any service....it says error with the com.android.phone or something and not sure what to do...please help!
Did you make nand backup prior to installing? If so restore. Otherwise I can make as either a metamorph or flashable theme.
Sorry its giving you trouble, like I said I hadn't tested since my phone is currently unrooted waiting for replacement #5.

no i didnt...i didnt think to honestly im not very smart in the android rooting area and i thought if i just put the apks on id be all set...not sure what the metamorph thing you mentioned means or would do
For now you can reflash whatever Rom your using and should set you right. When I get to pc I can make a dialer theme you can use to flash. Flashing works better because you don't get a ton of FC's when using metamorph. You'd flash it just like a Rom.

Easy enough:
1) copy zip file to root of sdcard (not in any folders)
2) reboot phone to recovery (power-on holding volume up button until you get the recovery screen)
3) choose flash zip.. (don't recall the exact wording at the moment, about 4th option down) and follow directions given on screen
4) once flash is successful, reboot to see effects and enjoy.
Attached is the flashable theme I made for you, enjoy!
Just to let you know, the main problem that you have/had is that the Phone.apk isn't where the Dialer is stored at. You'd want the Contacts.apk for that. Hope this helps in the future...

The Galaxy s and verizon Logo disappeared after i flashed to the new kernel..
Do you guys know what happened?
is there way to fix that?
Thanks in advance..
Which kernal? Some would consider losing those boot logos a fix in and of themselves.
Sent from my [email protected] Ghz
Try d/l a bootanimaton.zip in /data/local/ directory and see what happens. Maybe jt or dirrk removed the commands to play Samsung's qrm splash animation and so it trys to do the legacy bootanimation.zip method.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
It's still there with jt's kernal.
Hopefully JT or Dirrk can fix this in their next kernel so that way we can fully do bootanimations.zip without lags.

Bootanimation zip files won't work on our fascinates. They are using a .qmg file system on the boot animation so the normal bootanimation.zip to change the boot screen won't work.

Install through cwm? On nero 3 with voodoo jl5 but did not change animation.

it didnt change it on mine either. nero v3 with stock kernel
Anyone get this to work?
Nero v3 / voodoo504
sbg 2.2 +
I see. Just rebooted. Only changed shutdown animation. Nice. Do you have a bootup animation that is similar. Otherwise ill just keep the nexus boot up.

dont use CWM just reinstall packages.
i pushed them through with root explorer. works fine
I haven't tried it yet but I just looked it. It's a .qmg, not the bootanimation.zip that a lot of ROMs use. The shutdown should work fine, but the boot animation won't on ROMs that use bootanimation.zip (including Nero). It can be converted, I've never done it before but I'll check it out. If anyone knows what they're doing and could probably beat me to it, please do!

Shouldn't matter what recovery you use. As long as the update.zip is signed properly, it will do what it's supposed to do either way. But like I said, not compatible with all ROMs in this format.
no bootanimation.zip to push
i agree that it doeant work on all roms. i deleted the bootanimation amd now i have a android logo across the new bootup image.

So I'm assuming this won't work on Eugene's GingerClone then since it does have a bootanimation.zip??
The boot up sound file is missing
I'm assuming it has one
+1 for no sound on boot, now my professors wont know when i turn on my phone in class

Are you on CM7? It seems like a lot of people are having trouble flashing boot logos after switching for some reason.
Anyways, just try taking the logo.bin out of the zip and flashing it through fastboot the command is
fastboot flash logo logo.bin
its a little less convenient but it should work
Could it be an issue with the incompatible with the recovery you have. When I was trying to piece together a CWM zip file to change a logo that was of of the things that was interfering. That might not be the case here but just thought I might throw my 2 cents.

That is for boot animation, not boot logo. The logo is the m with dual core underneath it.

Well, I'm new to installing stuff on this device, and I need a bit of help when it comes to this. Currently, I'm unlocked and rooted. I would like to get this guy running a new kernel and eventually a whole new ROM.
I want to get more battery out of it. Honestly, its been pretty solid so far, but I just want to get more.
So what do I need to do in order to install a new kernel? I just want to make sure I'm following whatever steps correctly. Also, I'm assuming there is a stock kernel I can go back to, yes?
Dsb's custom kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024776
You can either use the instructions in the op or use flash image GUI (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086361)

Once your rooted
On your computer make sure you have HTC drivers installed
Then download the boot.img of the kernel onto your computer
Plug you phone and on your phone go to Setting> Developer Options > Turn On Usb Debugging
Then open up adb and type "Adb Reboot Bootloader"
Then type "Fast Boot Flash Boot [Where you put the boot.img]
Now go into recovery and flash the modules
done

Those sound extremely easy enough. I flashed the boot.img, but I misunderstood the instructions on the Flash Image GUI and I didn't have the modules.zip extracted so I had to boot the phone to unzip the file then install it.
Do you always have to do this with the DNA or if we get S-Off, will it be as simple as a Nexus device where it's just a zip you flash?

That's what I figured. Question about something else!
How is everyone controlling their volts and governors and such? I know there are some apps out there, but I can't remember their names. Also, I know you can via terminal, but k forget how to do that, too.

I did the exact same thing and it wouldn't boot to homescreen after that, I tried to sideload the .zip and eventually did a factory reset and tried again. Thank heaven it worked though

You could use system tuner. I use the setting in the app "Pimp my rom" though. Very convenient.
