I rooted my MJ7 with a walkthrough from rootjunky.com also listed on here on XDA. It worked great. I was looking at installing ClockworkMod and ROM Manager. I installed ROM manager and it said that I needed to installed CWM and showed my device and presented me with 3 options. I dont know which to choose. I also dont know if this will trigger Knox to trip the flag and lock me out of the system. I was thinking about freezing knox and trying it but dont want to ruin anything just yet. Any Ideas?
If you're on a Verizon S4 with mj7 like I am...
You're screwed no custom recovery for it.

So what happens if we try to flash it, triggers the security flag and locks the phone out?
Well I'm not sure exactly what it'll do. Whether it bricks the phone or triggers Knox, I just know it won't work unfortunately. You'd have to do what I'm planning on doing and grab an S4 with MDK so you can have custom recovery etc.
For now its just root!

Just figured I'd add that in case.

How do you actually check for the Knox flag? I have looked on the googs and cant seem to find out.
Boot into download mode..
With the phone off hold power, volume down and home button.
Hold until phone vibrates then let go.
Once you see the download screen press volume up to continue.
It'll display all that info for you in tiny letters
Your looking for it to show 0x0 next to anything pertaining to Knox.

Oh but there is so much that can be done with dog poopies.... Place in bag, put on doorstep. Ring doorbell, light bag on fire, run, and watch. Any ways, I see the issue and apologize for my ignorance in the matter.
I see what you're saying OP. ROM Manager on mine says Clockwork Mod Recovery is actually installed - but it doesn't function.
I think this was a good question & being that it's in the Q & A section, I expected it to be a question about it, not an announcement that it was working.
Heck, I haven't come across anyone saying they were doing anything to get this working on our devices or any other recovery for that matter. For all we know, it could take a simple question by a tinkerer from this forum that could open things up. Look at what happened with vroot the last couple of weeks.

Ok, if you don't believe me, that's fine. Go look everywhere else on XDA. Go look everywhere on the internet. There is no recovery. 4.3 is completely locked down. GooManager is probably trying to give you a Loki'd TWRP because it thinks you're on MDK, which is the only baseband that actually supports TWRP.
Yeah dude no custom recovery for mj7. Hashcode is trying to get safestrap working with the update. At least then you guys can have stock based TW roms.

It won't matter. People won't bother to read and will try to flash CM on their phones regardless of whether or not it works. SInce it says in the Sprint forum that doing "x" will work, it must work on all of the Galaxy S4 models, right? It's unfortunately very confusing when the different models of the GS4 have different firmware and very different updating policies.
Most of the people who have done this have no idea what "MJ7" means, so I''m afraid that a sticky won't help.it would have to appear as the first post in every forum for every variant of the GS4. And STILL people wouldn't read it.

Personally, I've never heard of what you're describing. The only way I know of with MK2 is to root using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565758.
After that, your only option for roms is Safestrap. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2441441. You will only be able to install TouchWiz 4.3 based roms. Make sure they're compatible with Safestrap before you install.
My advice would be to do a lot of research. This is a good place to start. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2606501.
Good luck

This is the Verizon forum, not at&t. However I believe mobile odin is only useful for restoring the phone to a factory state without a computer, not flashing roms, yet you must be rooted. I could be wrong though.

safestrap has been around for years for other phones and recently hashcode ported to the S4 last fall. I have used it since that time with zero issues and have been running several ROMs at a time to evaluate, with again no issues with safestrap. Not sure why you wouldn't "trust it".....as it gives all us non-MDK owners ability to run something else than just stock.

Exactly, I've been hammering away on Safestrap since my RAZR and it's really safe just like the name implies. Granted I could flash AOSP on the razr, but my guess is at some point kexec will come around for the S4 as well. Too many really smart people working on that project for it to fail in my opinion.

slowly getting there. Takes some time and while many SS roms are available they all come up short to my main day to day HD12 Rom....battery life is simply amazing
So, I hope others add to this thread. I learned something new to me and thought I'd share.
There were several times when I picked up my phone, and it vibrated. For no reason. I thought this was odd. But, there was a reason. I just didn't know it. I have been reading the samsung site's FAQ and was enlightened.
When you pick up your mega and it vibrates, it is telling you there is a missed call, text, voicemail or other notification waiting. It's called Smart Alert. Very convenient if you have notifications limited to 1. Never had a phone do this before. I like it!!
I learned my Mugen 6600mah battery is a beast giving me double battery life lol naw I'm playing. Glad to see someone else noticed that vibration thing...but running custom 4.4.2 it doesn't do it anymore.cheerz
*SHAYNEZ*KCCO*
I will throw in one. On the lock screen, I added a widget for the remote. Now, I don't even have to unlock the phone to turn the tv down. I really like the IR feature.
dmn i wasnt sure what those vibrations supose to do ( for me it was more like "haha im not sleepn any more" lol )
IR is pretty sweet. what apks u use to use ur mega as remote controller?
I just use the Samsung stock WatchOn for IR remote. It works well with my dish recievers and televisions. Is there something I should look at that is better?

I like your version of that vibration!! I used to think it was just saying "HI, still here!"
I use the stock watch on too. I found this by accident. Was going thru the unfamiliar apps in the apps drawer, clicked on it and found a very cool thing!!! Works on optonline's cable box! Very cool. I have the Note 8 and never found this one. It's there though! Just had to hunt for it.
Keep um coming guys!!! Thanks for your participation! :highfive:
I just learned over the weekend that my Mega can be used an an IR remote for my Nikon camera. Does all sorts of stuff that the Nikon remote does, and for free ($4 if I want the ad-free version, which I'm considering).
I like that when I am txting someone.... I can tap on the paperclip and choose "record audio".. then it gives me over 3 minutes of yapping and yapping.. so much easier than typing or even using the voice typing.. 3 minutes of my own speech.. in a txt message!!! love it

Can someone explain exactly why knox is so bad? Does it keep you from re-rooting?
This is what I know about it so far. It makes a separate "box" of stuff so you can keep your work stuff separate from your personal stuff and your employers have the ability to control this "box" somehow. I know it can't be un-installed. That's about all my knowledge, even after checking it out!

Sorry, but it's no way... new firmware is one way ticket - you can't go back even if you have nandroid backup. New bootloader prevent you from downgrading. Anyway in my opinion it is only matter of time to find a way to root new firmware with KNOX. And when 4.4.2 arrives there will be no other choice than upgrade with all what it contains... and one of this things will be KNOX for sure.
Since no one is jumping in here to explain why knox is so bad, I went back to find out exactly what knox is. Read the following link from samsung's site.
http://www.samsung.com/global/business/mobile/solution/security/samsung-knox/
This explains what it is. I still need to know why it is so bad for devs to get around it. Any one???
What I got so far after reading the above link is it is attached to the bootloader, and the kernel, so if anyone messes with these components, the phones senses it and shuts down the phone. Is this the huge block associated with the att version and knox in general?
I ha e discovered that in my text window, when I hit vol + or - , my text size will increase or decrease. Hmmmmm.

The bootloader will block any older roms.
But it's still possbile to flash an older rom through custom recovery
So I have a rather interesting situation. I got my phone through preorder like many others did, and got a 27th stability update right away. I installed it, used the device for a while. Later in the day I went into download mode to see if my phone said anything about being bootloader- locked.
The funny thing is that now, device status shows as custom, and updates fail due to "unauthorized" changes, which were never made
So my question: can that be fixed without wiping device? What do u think triggered that? Booting into DL even if I didn't do anything else?
Thanks for your help in advance!
Bump
Did you root the device yet?

Any idea on what exactly that file is? Having "noship" in the title makes me think it's some half baked internal build. Is it a Samsung file or a dumped ROM bundled up?

Not sure, but back on the droid charge we had a ton of leaked internal builds for the gingerbread update, where stuff slowly started working and bugs got ironed out with each one.
Not sure but on thier Twitter page they had screen shots I think it's an internal build I'm gonna try it later tonight will keep you posted

If I had a backup phone I would flash it.
I'm worried about root and going back to 4.3

Well i went ahead and installed this. I don't need or want root so I don't care about that. So far everything is running great. Will post back once i have a chance to fully test it.

Well have most of my accounts and apps installed and have found any bugs or had any issues so far. A few visual differences here and there. Boot animation is different. Keyboard looks slightly different and the status bar icons are all white and the lock screen looks a little similar to the S5 with the shortcut button on the bottom right hand corner. Other than that everything looks the same so far. It's definitely faster though but I haven't had a chance to put it to heavy use yet.

Hey guys,
Just a reminder to not mirror this file anywhere.
Please for the sake of development download only from their website.
Thanks

great info, thanks
about to flash it here.
one more question, since this is an unrooted rom from vzw, this will not trip the counter right?

I'm not sure someone with more knowledge than me will have to tell you but I'm fairly certain that it shouldn't.
