I am new here, I've sony ericsson E10i phone with Firmware version 2.1-update1. I want to change it to jellybean 4.1. Can anyone direct me the whole process step by step and give me also the links of essential software and drivers for this installation. I am looking forward for your kind help.

Do some research and searching..you will have to use flashtool..

I am about to receive my new X10, this is my first phone of this type and I don't fully understand all the tech stuff. I have never had a smart phone before.
I have read on several forums that you can update this phone to the new operating system (I think that's right), but am completely unsure how I would go about it. I am not very computer literate but would obviously like my new phone to have the latest version.
Is there a guide (an idiots guide) as to how to update the phone in very basic terminology?
it depends on if you want to update to the stock 2.1 android or a custom rom ie 2.2/2.3

Thanks Riginal there is a lot to take in. I would probably go for just the stock 2.1 as my first attempt, then have a look at what the other versions offer.

I found many links to download the ftf file (android ICS 4.0.4) for xp mini pro SK17a and SK17i and many other models, but nothing for the U20i! ... anybody have some links or infiormation about it ?

There is no official ICS firmware for our devices, SE never even gave us a frozen yogurt, so the only way to get ICS on your phone is either MiniCM9 or this one, which is based on ICS sources.
Oh, I thought that you was searching a kernel for android 4.0.4 . The thread i gave include's a link to a kernel that support android 4.0.4 (CM9).

Nope, sorry, the SK17i runs on a newer SoC than ours, and they're not compatible.
You would have to recompile it all from source, which is what the provided links have already done for us , they are really the only options for our phones.

Can any one please suggest how i can upgrade Xperia mini pro U20i to ics. I have tried all process in this forum but i am unable to flash a security error is coming while doing that.

Hi guys, I'm new here. I recently bought new xperia mini pro u20i and I don't really like the old OS in it. Thought to upgrade to ICS but the problem is that I'm not experienced at all in these android update&upgrade things. (I'm mostly a computer guy ) I've read instructions how to upgrade etc.. but I'm not risking do it alone although I rooted my phone few hours earlier (whatever that means ) I need someone experienced to show me either on Skype or any other IM step-by-step how to upgrade my OS before I go crazy about it ICS seems like a cool upgrade and I want to try it out. Reply here or PM me, doesn't matter. Please just help me to accomplish this task. Appreciate it. Thanks in advance ))

Start thinking of your phone as a computer... It will make things easier.
Root access (which is easy to come by on Windows, but usually needs a password on linux) allows you to tinker with your system-files.
And there is a tutorial around here somewhere, where the poster has gone through the trouble of making screenshots for every step needed, so maybe you could search for that.

There is no official update other than 2.1 eclair.

best way to get ics on your device is go to xperia x8 section choose the rom and download nAa ics 04 kernel after that you will get taste of real ics. the w8 and x8 are the same so you will be able to install it.

i own a xperia neo and i saw reviews for the ics 4 update tht sony rolled out which were not convincing. i'd like to get started on how to upgrade to it manually . i'm very new to this and pls anyone guide me. if its the video tutorials, it would be more than helpful

What do you mean by Manually updating ?
All you need to PC Companion or SEUS, just download anyone from Sony Web Site, & let it update it for you, just follow the instruction (which will give you when you install PC Companion or SEUS)

What do you mean by updating it? What are the procedures you talk about?
Use Sony Update Service if you want to update from 2.1 to Gingerbread but back up your data first.
You can also use Sony PC Companion to update your software

@huddlestone2013. It depends on what exactly u want to do...?? If you just want to update your x10i just go with the sony pc suite and update it .
Insted it you want to put some custom roms, then first you need to root your phone/unlock your bootloader, then select any of the awesome roms provided in the development thread.
