Anyone know which wireless tether app works with the temp root? I've tried a few and a no go.
I've seen claims of barnacle working, but have yet to try it myself.

Barnacle works perfect. Thank you, and I hit your Ty button.
It can't stay connected though, since root is temp, correct?

I have Barnacle wifi tether running on my 3D with temp root. Works great, but yes it is temporary for now.
If the wireless part isn't necessary, pdanet works just fine without root.

I can temp root with no problems using my MacBook Pro and Fre3vo but no wireless tethering joy for me. Wireless Tether doesn't work at all. Barnacle gives no errors with the ad hoc connection, everything looks fine, even Snow Leopard's network diagnostics say that my internet is working fine, but no data is transmitted or received. I even tried all the tips/tricks in this thread, still no joy. Any suggestions?
PdaNet works ok with USB but is very unstable with Bluetooth.
BTW I had no problems at all with the EVO 4G either in ad hoc mode (early versions of Wireless Tether) or non ad hoc (whatever that's called, recent versions of WT).
I've tried most of the methods out there and the one in this thread has the highest success rate IMO. One important thing: check your apps and if you have "Super User" installed as an app, uninstall it first before trying the method in that thread.
Barnacle works perfectly for me under that setup.
Mike
I have the same issue. I also have a mac so it might be a mac issue. I get tether to work on my wifes shift so I know my computer works.

Found this and I am tethering now:

Thanks, the version of wireless tether mentioned in the linked post worked for me and I'm posting using it! I had tried every other version of WT on the google site, and every version of Barnacle I could find, none worked.
BTW I didn't have any error messages or have to change any settings as that page suggests, it just worked the first time.
This is the only version of WT that starts without errors for me, and I have to us WT as it can set up the softap network (Asus Transformer doesn't see ad-hoc). It sees it and connects, but can never get an IP Address.
Anyone else experience a similar issue?
How I got it running......
1. Get temp root by one of the methods in the forum
2. Download the wifi tether apk from the root/FAQ thread.
3. In the settings change profile to htc evo 4g
4. In settings apply check to box to fix HTC routing.
Wifi tether should restart and you should be in business.

Just got it working on My Coworkers 3vo. download wifi tether 3.2 from the web, then go into settings and there is a setting in the menu that says enable for htc devices, once I did that it worked like a charm.
**Note** you need temp root

You mean this version, 3.1 beta 2? I've tried all the versions out there and some work perfectly some of the time, some never work, but none work all of the time. Can't figure out what changes, it's so random. I'm using the 3.1 beta 2 version to write this, but yesterday it didn't work and tomorrow I predict it won't work. BTW every time I start this version I get an error/warning message that some necessary thingamajigs aren't there, but I dismiss the message and it works anyway.
And of course I know I have to re-root after every restart etc.
works sporactically
Both Barnacle Wifi Tether and Andriod Wifi Tether work sporadically for me. It worked a few days ago and now it doesn't work.
is 4g tether working? I could not get it to work using barnacle
Barnacle works perfect for me with 4G...I haven't had one problem with it...
Supposedly, a beta version of "Wireless Tether for Root Users" worked so long as you checked a box in the settings that was specific to HTC devices. I forget where there.
New wifi tether 3 beta2 working perfect on EVO 3D now!!!!! With temp root obviously... Just released a few hours ago. Just thought I'd spread the love.

Hmm, I couldn't get it to work with temp root.
i had to set it to device profile thunderbolt to get beta2 working.
also have an odd issue with it..when after a reboot & reroot wifi tether doesnt work right away. even starting/stopping multiple times didnt fix it. it starts working later..either after using barnacle for a while or just time passing by. im not sure which one.
Yeah, I had the experimental version working once then never again. This is the same. Worked once but wouldn't load any webpage. Barnacle seems to be the most constant and best so far

try setting profile to thunderbolt. start wifi tether. it will not connect. stop wifi tether then start/stop barnacle.
finally, start wifi tether n it should work.
Tried it twice...first time worked, lost root. 2nd time...did not work..lost root. Barnacle is dependable, works and no loss of su.
Ive only gotten barnacle to work. I cant get this version to work.
I don't understand why it isn't working for you all. It's working perfect for me. I installed it and using prema-temp root finished 100%. I don't change any of the settings in wireless tether and all is well. I updated the link to make sure you download the right one.
It's working for me. I installed it over beta1 and then wiped data. Tried it at first without changing any settings. The first time it took my laptop a very long time to connect and for a little bit it said limited connectivity, then suddenly it was working. Stopped tethering to change SSID and add encryption and it worked like normal the second time.

If you have to use Barnacle to "patch" Wifi Tether, why not just use Barnacle in the first place?
Mike
Its working perfect for me.
On first startup it said something about my kernel.. Hit ignore and I checked routing fix in settings.
Haven't had any problems

I have noticed that ever since I rooted my Thunderbolt I cannot tether. All devices will connect to my phone(other phones, computers, xbox, etc) but they cannot open a web browser. It used to work on the hotspot ap that came with the phone. The only thing I can think of is that on the stock app, I could change the security to wpa/wpa2/wep. On this new app I cannot change, am I grasping at something that isnt there or is there something else that needs to be done?
help me pleas,e, my neighbors internet wont be there forever. , .
I've been rooted for some time and it may be coincidence but sense the last 4g outage last week my tethering has "limited access" wired or wireless. I'm using liquid 3.0.2 built in wired/wireless hotspot. wifi apps I've installed don't work either now??? Help
Go here http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/ and try the newest version thats available. Also in settings check the router fix option.
Also you can try open garden from the market..

Then it worked.
My neighbors now have one les person stealing their wifi. Thank you!

I'm on Liquid 3.2 and I've had the best luck recently with Open Garden (wireless tether app)
@ tatt: did you go to that link above and download the new app to your phone?
I never did this on the old Rom so it may be that.

I noticed that the android wifi tether app states that it only works for 3G and 2G. I wonder if this is just a "canned" statement? Does anyone know, for sure, if it works for 4G tethering?
Yeah I did, neither the old or new one are getting more than limited access. Know idea what may have changed on the PC side? Nothing new or changed? Just the outrage on Verizons end last week. I'm baffled. I have tried a couple other Rome with the same results. Sucks pdanet is a third of the speed.
There's a bug with CM7 if your using it, I'm having the same problem. I have a none stock kernel with it but I can't using wifi-tether or the built in tether. Makes me want to switch to my sense ROM. :/

It works for 4g, I use it all the time. Im running stock rooted sense
If you're running CM7 set your built in tethering to OPEN for security and run this version of wireless tether use the same name as the built in one and it'll work. I finally got it working a few minutes ago.
Thanks will give it a try when I get home.

Thank you.
It works on my 4g, I tested it with a speed test website and was getting 5mbs.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
I dont know what I did but my hotspot can only hit .25 mbps now according to speedtest.net
I then watched the speed on the hotspot and it shows the same
Its been like this for a week now, does any one know the settings layout on the hotspot? Are theer any that could affect this?
I have rebooted my phone, switched airplane on and off. I then tested the speed on my phone and it is getting 4g, so the problem is with the hotspot.

You rock JRocker23! Always helpful - a Thx is in order. Of course the Market QR code returns "No Results Found"
Try changing the type of connection to Infastructure or Ad-Hoc. I don't remember which one it was, but one of these fixed a very similar issue for me.
I have tried three different roms for my thunderbolt. None of which has connected with internet access via tether on my laptop. I went back to stock Rom and verizons hotspot and everything works.
What I would like, is a sense 3.? Rom (with the ring long) or an ICS build that has known working wifi tether.
I am not ruling out..that I have done something wrong..but have used the pre-installed tether apps AND download two from "play"..still show no internet connection on the laptop..even after enabling settings.
Any direction or suggestions are much appreciated.

all the roms that I have tried wireless tether has work. some roms took a little fix and some were rom specific so you would have to read about that rom. there are some threads about getting wireless tether to work.
I've always had issues with tethering on this phone until I used this with the "routing fix" check box checked. http://android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com
Btw, I'm running BAMF Forever.

Just loaded this up and it indeed fixes whatever problem Verizon has. Going on 1-hour connected 4G tether and no problems!
I've heard that Foxfi doesn't work with the Droid DNA--is there any way to use turn this device into a mobile hotspot without having it pre-included in my data plan?
This is my first smartphone; I've been using my Nexus 7 and a dumb phone for the past few months now, and I felt I should upgrade to a smartphone since I'm not living on campus anymore. This seems like a great phone in and of itself, but I'd still like the option to tether my tablet. Any suggestions?
As long as you are rooted, you can use WiFi Tether For Root Users (yellow WiFi bars picture) and it will tether just fine. You won't need to include tethering in a data plan to use it.

Yeah but that's one more app running in the background. If you have that feature built in the os why not run the native app IF it works? That's why I'm asking... does it work?

It only runs in the background if you have it turned on and you are using it, just like any stock app.
Wow....I cant seem to get wifi tether working. Have all the settings checked properly. Wlan0, routing fix, auto,....It starts with errors. Looking at the log all are red but three. Any suggestions?.....and no i cant use built in app....unlimited data i have...thanks in advance...

I am seeing exactly the same issue. Numerous errors on starting, unable to tether. Or more precisely, other devices can see the hotspot and tether to it, but do not get Internet access.
My main problem is that my phone will show up as a device instead of a router (like it used to on my OG Incredible), thus not allowing other phones or tablets to connect to it because they don't see the connection. Laptops work find though. I use "wireless tether for root users" with the green signal symbol and not the newer version because the new one doesn't show the data speeds and total data used in the app.
I am using the latest yellow version and both my Galaxy Note and Lenovo laptop tether to it but do not get Internet access.
sorry for jumping on old post.
Just wondering. On my moto droidbrazr maxxbi did an sqlight hack to bypass the entitlement check and was able to use the stock hotspot app even though i was on unlimited data. Would a similar work around work for dna?

Just enabled my WiFi Tether I am using WiFi Tether 3.2-beta2 with ROM Super Stock v1.0106.605.4 http://http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565190
Searched YouTube and found..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AF77Pk-nZng Followed his steps and I'll be it worked!
LOL for anyone still using the DNA, I just installed NuSense Six and FoxFi works perfectly - not ad-hoc, full infrastructure mode, so it will work with devices other than PCs.

I'm using all stock roms (I was s-off and flashed stock recovery, grabbed OTAs, flashed TWRP recovery). I installed SuperSU & BusyBox than was able to tether using Barnacle Wifi Tether~ it gave me an error for adhoc but I was able to click associate and use my 4g on an iPad.(Also checked external IPs & ran speedtests to confirm it was using 4G)
Not working for me. It gets stuck at "please wait while starting". And just spins. I can back out of it but nothing good happens.
